It's something when you can go through a neighborhood and everything is almost the same, or is the same and you can just reminisce about the good times & memories. I'm glad you had a good time Gil and thanks for sharing this experience with us, i can't wait for more uploads.
I came on RUclips because I was supposed to check the NBA highlights right now but I seen this up and I can’t stop myself from clicking on your videos dude.
Lol I work10 hour shifts 5 days a week and still go play basketball after I get off work for 3 hours while my son plays on the play set.. I hope I’m getting enough physical activities in my life.
Your channel is wonderful & your memories are beautiful. I follow you from Saudi Arabia. I have previously lived in California for two years in San Bernardino (upland) please activate the translation into Arabic.
OMG I ALSO GREW UP IN SANTA ANA IN THE 70S!! I LIVED ON BISHOP STREET RIGHT OFF OF BRISTOL! THE APTS ARE CALLED BRISTOL MANOR! SANTA ANA WILL ALWAYS BE MY HOME
Hey Gil I was born in the 80s and I lived in Azusa but I reminisce like you. Seeing your Covina videos definitely brings back memories it’s crazy what a small world it is my parents used to take me to the dinner you worked at around that time you worked there.
Disco foeva I haven’t lived in Azusa since the mid 90s but it feels like life was more simple back then. You could play outside as a kid without worrying someone was going to take you.
And it’s weird I literally visited my childhood house in Monterey today ! I haven’t been back in 17 years which is not that long ago to most but to me it feels like forever ! It always feels so good to wander down memory lane and reminisce on the good ol’ days. And I’m 25 btw so that’s why it feels like its been ages to me since I’ve been back.
Just looked at the outside; it was an apartment in Monterey and everything looks quite the same. And the school I went to was near by so I made a stop by there and took my son as well and showed him everything I did around there. We walked thru the apartment complex and I showed where I used to play and do laundry with his grandmother and also showed him where I played basketball with his grandfather at the near by park and my elementary school. Now I live in Washington and I’m married and I have son now. A lot has changed but the memories I had in Monterey, CA were great.
27:05 yup thats good ol santa ana.. Yellow Impala blasting Narco Corridos... Nice! I’m from costa mesa but when i was a teenager i hanged in Santa Ana a lot back in the 80’s for me Wilson street costa mesa is where i grew up in the 70’s not to far from where you grew up gilbert. Im 48 almost the same age as you.
I live five minutes away from my childhood home. Lived there for fifteen years and I miss it. Had to move out over two years ago for no fault of our own, just bad luck. At least I’m still here in SoCal
Gilbert you are really busting out the Southern California Chicano/Hispanic dialect today, man. I'm really diggin this already and that 70's leisure suit from the opening pictures - holy cow. My parents dressed like that all the time.
Gil I was in Santa Ana a few weeks ago and let me tell you it’s crazy to see how Cali has transformed. I always wanted to be out here and I’m glad I took the initiative for the road trip been (3x). The minute I leave California I miss it. I’m a east coast New Yorker.
I wasn’t too far from you. I lived in Santa Ana in the 70s and 80s. I lived on Washington Street near Santa Ana College. My neighborhood was rough in the early 80s. Gangs and drugs was high during those times.
How fun Gil....I remember taking my wife Frances to her childhood homes in West Sacramento. When you took your family to the state capital you drove on her bridge jajaja well she calls it HERS anyways.
Hey we're the same age and I lived in the city over in Tustin in 70s and 80s. I'm Mexican-American my parents moved us their in like 73' 74' from Pasadena since their company moved there to Irvine. Always wondered why my parents never moved to Santa Ana with their friends and they always told me just too many problems too many gangs in that area and crime..which it was, also remember them tell me most of those people left that area for that reason they moved out into Corona, Fonantucky in the other parts of LA County. I'm just glad my parents didn't put themselves in the stereotypical communities and they integrated with their local community! I even married myself a white Huntington Beach surf girl!
Hello I’m Mexican American too I’ve lived in Santa Ana 40 years now. We bought a home and moved into a nice area of Santa Ana which had and still has a diverse mix of people. For the most part everyone had and still has pride in there home and neighborhood and keeping it up. Yes Santa Ana issues in the past with gangs and crime like any other 370,000 plus population city but not all of Santa Ana was like that nor is like that now. Never had any issues here with gangs or any crimes and I’m just speaking in my area I live in. It’s just funny how outside of Santa Ana and now sometimes Anaheim, get bashed as it’s soooo bad and its usually south OC cities saying it. Hopefully in the near future all big cities can be gang and crime free and Santa Ana will be like it was prior to the mid 70’s. Don’t want it to become another LA 😅 By the way love downtown Tustin! Would go there a lot as a kid.
@@fueledbymusic3 I guess I can kinda relate to that. I had been living in the Covina-Azusa area since I was a baby but then my family moved to the IE when I was twelve, and I wanted to move back so bad. Of course over time I got used to it but Covina and Azusa will always be special to me.
Gilby you were riding your scooter on a really busy street! Aren’t you scared to do that after your terrible accident ?? Please please be careful. I loved all the pictures in the beginning of the video. You were such cute little kids. Im sure your parents worked hard to give you kids a nice place to live. Your house and neighborhood looked rich compared to mine. You loved electronics even as a small boy because the picture of you with the tape recorder was cute. Thanks for the great video Gil, almost to 50k!!!!
There is one house we lived in in the late 70's and 80's and I moved back in in 88 because I got into a car accident and had a lot of bills so my parents ask me if I wanted to move back in with them until I could pay my bills down,it has a lake in the subdivision and my sisters and I talk about buying the house from the owner. My parents live close to it now and I am not far from it.
I'll tell ya!! For my family it was the best year with funk, disco, classic rock playing on the radio in everyone's car. Lowriders all fixed up playing music outloud. Dressing up in cords. Comfortable clothing. Everyone was dressed the same style. Playing outside all day n night. Family gatherings outside near our fruit trees n bar b que as family drink n tell jokes.

Same here, my family lived in Baldwin Park in the 60s, 70s, 80s. I stll get homesick from moving away 35 yrs ago.

Azusa is awesome. I love the canyon view that you can see no matter where you are in town. The canyon itself is a gem.
Always ready for a new upload

Hey Gilbert, by any chance do you talk to the current homeowners from your childhood homes? I think that would be cool to experience
Aye Santa Ana ! 🏡
Those houses look just like the neighborhood i grew up in in San Diego.
I'm the same age as you Gilbert.

Cool video.
California, the only place where one can ride an electric scooter down a busy road and not get cussed out by drivers.
YOUR experience of santa ana may differ.
Wow that was a long ride 😮
Cool vid Gil. The scooter is a nice way to do a video, you should do more like that. Is that a GoPro 8?
