Great video to show me how to dismantle it! I didn't have this problem exactly - Flooded the dishwasher a few days ago and have let it dry out since then, but today woke up to a humming louder than normal and the dishwasher hadn't been used in 2 days. Smelt burning so turned power off and left it. Found this video, and took it apart, towels down etc and found the flood protection relay had gotten some water on it a few days prior and started to short/burn/melt - Thankfully found it in time before damage to the dishwasher or fire in the house, and now just need to order a replacement.
Thanks Peter, I have a different model SMEG dishwasher but found that the bottom profile and pump location/type was same as in your video...I would never have thought of turning the machine on its side to access through bottom having already unsuccessfully tried to access through the side of machine! My pump was jammed by a porcelain shard from a dinner plate, so now removed and back in business!! I also found that my outlet hose was partially blocked and while the pump head was off used the opportunity to blow compressed air from sink side through waste hose into open pump body and got that properly cleaned out at the same time.
Great Video, You Truly Reminded Me how fixing things is An Enjoyable Journey ! I cleaned my Filter. Flushed my Disposal, then turned off the Electrical Breaker for the Dishwasher for 30 seconds. Vwallah! Lucky Me, Dishwasher has began working again, no longer just making a little noise for hours on end... it's splashing water around and cleaning dishes again... Great Video Though... I kinda wanted to open it up all the way.. Sadly, there will one day, be a Next Time.. even if it is a BOSCH ! Bosch Great Products Across All Industries !
Thank you Peter!!! Smeg washer wasn't draining. Did your steps and found a small piece of plastic blocking the motor. Power back on and seems to be back in business. Thank you for the great video.
This is so mad!!! My dishwasher would not drain, motor would not pump or spin. I followed this exactly. My motor felt like it had kidn of "sticking points" so I felt it was knackered. However, I livened it up on the power and the motor span up! I put it back together and poured some water inside and it pumped away. Just reinstalled it and its working like a dream!!! ON THE 31st of DECEMBER (it aint all sh.... then :0) !!! I almost replaced the machine too but no one had anything I could collect today. then my daughter suggested replacing the motor and I found this vid. Im over the moon and gonna thank you so much!!! The SMEGMEISTER. btw, Don't edit a damn thing as you might remove the magic. :))
Amazing. Thank you so much for this video. I followed your instructions and found a piece of chipped off ceramic in the pump! Now it is working perfectly. The kids will be wrapped not having to hand wash dishes anymore!
Peter, you have saved me a fortune and a lot of stress, thanks very much I cleaned out the the water pump and there was a shard of crockery stopping the pump from moving! All fixed in less than 20 minutes. You are a star!
That is a good wisdom! Large chip of crockery about 1cm diameter got stuck in mine, I reckon it must have fell in the sump during regular filter maintenance. Fixing this has made my week, you're a champion!
Terrific relaxed instruction, thanks Peter. After following your video instructions, I sorted my draining issue on my SMEG and I didn't use the "best towels" to mop up the water :-) Thanks so much!
Thanks for this - a small piece of glass had worked it's way into the pump. I managed to fix it without the usual huffing, puffing and unwarranted swearing thanks to your light hearted video. Really appreciated! If there's a charity close to your heart, I'd like to donate to it as a token of my appreciation. Let me know!
You sir are a legend. Different model but same problem. No obvious issues. Did precisely what you did and working again no problem. Love these simple videos. Absolute godsend. I'd have had zero idea which was the pump and would have ended up buying a new dishwasher.
Ben here from New Zealand. My wife is English, and said "never trust a Northerner" when I started listening to your video when our Smeg dishwasher stopped draining this morning. However, 20 minutes later, removed a tiny bit of plastic cord that had jammed the motor, and now our Smeg dishwasher is draining again, working perfectly ... so now she says that you're top banana! Thanks very much, Peter!
Love this video. Looking at the pattern of the plastic on the bottom I've got the exact same model, and had the exact same 'problem'. Took the pump out, nothing obviously wrong with it, gave it a little clean, put it back in and it worked perfectly. Was about to buy a new dishwasher so you've just saved me a load of cash, thanks. Really informative, easy to follow video.
Thanks for your helpful RUclips. I did exactly what you did and found nothing like you did. Put it all back together and it’s working now! Thanks again
Worked for me. First I thought it makes no sense, so I just tried to on/off with plug. Doesn’t work. So I decided to open and clean up. My machine was also clear ( like yours). Now it’s working again. I think it’s enough to plug on/off the waterfilter
Wow thank you for that video! I have a similar SMEG dishwasher and got the confidence to check my drainpump myself after it made some weird noises! A piece of plastic got stuck and I was able to remove it very easy :).
Ok, got a whole lot more tricky. Worked for half a cycle then stopped. 1- checked grey drainage pipe and follow to S bend. 2 - unclip from S bend (our plumbers did not use a proper pipe and drain point was extremely small and clogged). 3 - great but now dishwasher gives E9. Took off inspection panel and wiped down dry. 4 - took off front kicker and wiped down 5- took off foam covering and clicked the flood button a couple of times. 6 - Still getting error. 7- took out all filters and scrubbed entry points at base of washer, after circular filer and metal filter came out, the base can be loosed and a channel is there. I scrubbed that with a baby bib cleaner. 8- tried again and got more of a cycle, but got an error again. Going to try again tomorrow, but kind of getting incremental gains here. It drains itself when it gets the error now now, that's a bonus.
Haha, this just popped into my feed. I ended up beating this dishwasher to a pulp with a baseball bat and bought a new one before the missus got home. True story. Was extremely cathartic.
Thanks so much for posting this video it was super useful and saved a whole lot of time. I followed the instructions and found a piece a cup which had chipped off inside the water pump, exactly where you said it should be 👍
Superb! By far the best video of this kind on youtube and all done my kind of pace, takes his time I would trust Peter to have a go fixing most things him self. I had the same dishwasher and had the same problem now fixed. Many Thanks Peter your a legend.

Thank You so much for this video, we had tried several things using the manual, searched you tube and through lets give it a try and Bobs your uncle we have a working dishwasher again....yay!!
Thanks for this informative (and funny!) video on how to fix draining issues. I was able to order a replacement drainage pump from espares at a good price thanks to your recommendation (the plumber thought the seal on the pump was gone and had said to just get a new dishwasher in that event!)
Thanks, I did it just in time for Christmas. Found a small fragment of something or other that probably stopped the pump spinning. I also cleared the flexible tube (with length of stiff copper wire) which was connected to it...a trickle of water came through. So all systems go!!
Thank Peter and Paul for sharing the knowledge. I did both of what you advised but the water were still not draining .. i was about to buy a new pump before i tried one last thing.. clearing the draining line where its connect to the sink trap and whatdaya know a small plastic wrap from icy pole was the cause of the blockage. .Hooray!!
After 3 hours of cleaning the pipes and (cleaning up water) and putting on rinse cycles and failing who knew that sticking the thing on its side and standing it back up again would work?! So far so good!
If you’re not familiar with the drains you’re plugging into, don’t make the same mistake as me. I had the same error, pulled it all apart etc and still same problem. Turned out some of the ‘elbows’ (elbow shaped bits you plug the drain into) aren’t drilled out. Check they’re drilled out/clear first. I moved into a new place and none of the elbows went into the drainage system.
Before going through all this caper, if you have recently moved your dishwasher, first pull it out from its recess and check that the drain hose isn't kinked or restricted. If it is, you'll get this same Error06. The hoses need to lay as naturally and unstrained as possible, which is not always easy.
Thanks for the help, I think I had a similar problem with mine, the tuber coming from the pump was blocked which I cleared by pulling it out of the pump and blowing through it (Disgusting) I know, anyway seems to be working now.
Hi there. I have fully integrated SMEG dishwasher STL7235L but can't find any manual on how to adjust legs of this dishwasher. Do you have any idea how it could be done?
Legend! Did this on my st4523in there was a small plastic piece inside the pump. Didn't have to flip mine just had to remove the bottom panel. Could do that while it was still installed
Smeg: “It will be $125 for the call out fee and $30 for every additional 15 minutes it takes to fix the problem.” Looks like I owe you about $200 mate.
I had the same problem and followed your video. Can i ask if the problem has happened again and if you've had to get a new pump? I've just put it back together and have a cycle running, however feel its a warning that somethings going to go wrong. Thanks for the video 👍
@@peterrenfrew Hi Peter. Thanks. I'm not familiar with dish washers at all. Ok, so there were issues with it draining. The water would be left in there. And now when I tried using it again, the switch doesn't work to turn on the dishwasher at all. It's just completely dead. I checked the circuit breaker and that was fine. I opened it all up to check if there was any water inside at the bottom - none. I don't know how to change the fuse if that's the issue. I've checked for any debris, didn't find anything. I've cleared away all the excess water now. But yeah, now it won't turn on!! I'm worried because my landlord is coming in 2 weeks, and he asked me not to use it (he didn't say why, but probably because he knew it was not functioning properly, right?). I hope he doesn't make me take responsibility for this. I was depressed and all the dishes piled up and I thought I'd just save more water by using the dish washer - ugh! Wish he just said it was broken, I thought he just didn't want me to waste water or something. I'd appreciate any input from you.
