  • NEW: edit with slow motion and inset showing how Netflix used this video: • Max Verstappen crash a...
I was watching from Copse when Max crashed right in front of us.
Some commenters are asking about the camera: it's a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro with a Canon 55-250 lens. Shot in BRAW 8:1 format.
The camera is more intended as a budget cinema camera for indy filmmakers, not sports action videography. Also I left it set to 24fps when I think a higher frame rate would have been better for this.

But kudos to the fans that was happy that he was okay instead of celebrating that he was out of the race. And kudos for the leaps and bounds made to improve safety in F1.

We were on the front row of that stand and the crash happened in front of where we were sat. I too filmed it on my phone and have played it back numerous times, the initial cheers were about the close quarters racing at one of the fastest corners in the world.
The applause and cheers were when we all knew Max was ok. No one was cheering about Max crashing, more like oh my god, hope he’s ok. There were four Dutch fans behind us and all commented on how caring the stand was for Max, even Max appreciated this as he turned and waved to the stand when walking to the medical car.
F1 fans, no matter where they are from, are the most sporting, caring bunch you will ever come across.

I was at the GP and there was a big cheer as Max crashed out but the mood quickly changed as people were genuinely concerned for Max’s safety. As soon as he got out of the car there was another massive cheer and applause for Max. While obviously Hamilton gets huge support at Silverstone there is huge respect for all the drivers and nobody would want to see a driver hurt. If Max had won at Silverstone the fans would still given him a massive cheer for winning.

Hamilton took a way to big a risk, he missed the apex of the turn by a meter whilst Max gave him space. And he hit his back right wheel (which in 90% cases is always cos of understeer on the driver). Hamilton didn’t apologize or offer sympathy either he “had no regrets today”. He had the same turn with Leclerc on the outside but then he was perfectly on the apex of the turn. He has driven on this track a thousand times yet pulls this shit in the fastest turn in the race. He should’ve gotten a black flag, but Max’s reputation and the biased brits make Hamilton and his massive ego practically invincible.

Another high G impact I'm worried after Grosjean last year. Max was lucky there was no fire at all, but couldn't imagine how shocked he was seeing him looking weak like that. Maaaaannnnn,,,, this will be another war after that Rosberg's silver war. Thanks for the video, mate 👍

Out of interest what do you reckon would be a good camera for filming motorsport. I have a pocket 4k and am curious as to what you think a better setup would be?

It's a good question. I'd imagine for serious work you could look at something like the Canon EOS C70. You might want something that shoots raw video, has autofocus, maybe in camera stabilisation, built-in ND filters. But it's much more expensive and maybe too cumbersome. Maybe one of the Sony A7s would be good (I would check how the autofocus copes with fast movements, maybe these mirrorless cameras are very good at it). But I have not looked into it in any detail.
TBH if you can focus manually the 4K with the right lens can still be pretty good, I think. My comment was only because this is probably not what the camera designers had in mind.

@@RobFisherUK Thanks very much for the response, yeah I'm sure the pocket 4k would work well but the two others you mention are cameras I have considered. The c70 would be the perfect camera if it was 3/4 of the price.

The palpable relief going through the crowd, when Verstappen emerges shaken but otherwise unhurt, proves Red Bull wrong concerning the character of the English at Silverstone.
