How are foster families / adoption applicants vetted? How does a five year old walk into school and talk about sex toys and nobody tries to dig deeper. This young woman was failed by so many people.
All of the people I know who have adopted went through crazy rigorous vetting process. I have to imagine things have gotten more strict over time.
@@apaaaa Seems to me like there are stricter vetting process from animal shelters when it comes to screening potential adopters . . there is definitely something wrong with so many stories going back to abuse within the foster system...
Because if they investigated sex crimes a lot of very wealthy people would be in prison... No one would have children at all most likely because it really takes one bad apple then all kids are saying dirty things... Children who are victims don't always just say shocking things.
She was poor and nobody gave af. I'm sure her parents said she was lying. It was probably the 90s? It was a lot different then.

The more I hear stories like this, the more I want to adopt children rather than having my own. There are so many children in the world who deserve better than this. This is so devastating.
God bless you. Take your time with that decision. Almost all adoptions are now "open". You will be required to be in some sort of contact with biological family. This can be an enormous hurdle and can even sabotage relationship with you child.
I was adopted and suffered greatly by having contact with my bio family.
Maybe you are called to do it, though. Said a prayer for you.
The answer is responsibly raised children raised by responsible parents. The culture has endangered the Maddy’s of the world. All the children abandoned and caught in self destructive circular patterns in family histories exist in so many variations and types. They’re often described as on the margins. Appreciate and understand why so many want to rescue those on the margins, but the best result is raise your own, and love them without this broken culture that has let down so many.

When she talked about her little bit of joy of collecting insects when she was a child, I was almost heartbroken.
I cried at that moment, I'm sure that was the only happiness she ever had as a young girl.
Yes, poor little child deprived of the most tiny joy! And she loved it when she was allowed to be out in nature for those six months she spent at camp. Shame, shame, shame on all the monsters she had to endure...not even humans!

I like that you let the subject speak, without interruption, or trying to be the 'star' of the show as so many others do. You're very good at your craft, Mark, and it makes for some great interviews. That's just my opinion anyhow. Thanks for the vids mate!

Just listening is sometimes the best for everyone. We get to watch uninterrupted & she was using this like a therapy session just to get it off her chest. That’s a very healthy thing to do. The more you hold things in, the more they fester. As long as she stays away from drugs & selling herself there’s a good chance she can get a job & have a better life. She has to use professional facilities like daycare or schools though to keep her daughter as safe as possible. I wouldn’t trust leaving her with friends or neighbors while at work. Save the money up to keep the daughter in a secure place. Give her a healthy happy childhood so she sees none of what the mother had to go through. Give her the best opportunities for an easier path to success. That way, you broke the cycle ❤️

'I was damaged, but not unfixable damaged " This was so pivotal for me. My Wife (whose life was very similar to Maddy's) always said to me that none of us is ever broken. I am not broken, Maddy is not broken, none of us are. I know now that we cannot heal unless we face the insurmountable task of not only learning to like who we see in the mirror, but love them. Because if we don't think we are precious, perfect right here, right now, we will not do what it takes to fight for ourselves. It is excruciating work. But so far it has been worth it. Maddy, you are a rockstar. And your inner belief and inner strength are a goddamn torch blazing in the sky. Love, peace and blessings to you and your little girl. Namaste ☮️

She is one of the strongest people I've ever seen. Not going to drugs or alcohol, finding a way to make a life for her and her kid and still able to see the good in people with that much damage done to her. God bless her. I hope she finds real true honest love because she deserves it so much.

I started crying when the camera changed focus and showed you laying there listening to her speak. This is a huge part of what we're missing in society - the patience to listen and truly hear someone out, let them tell their story, use their voice.

ya Mark is a true artist. He made his mark(no pun intended) doing photography. So he's being doing this for so long he knows how to get a good and organic interview with people who are telling very intimate parts of their lives,which isn't aesy thing to do,and have it comee out as well as it is.
Yet there are a bunch of people bashing Mark saying he’s exploiting them. Those people suck and are haters because they are jealous. At least he gives them an opportunity to talk and get it out of their system. He also helps them a little financially and gives clothes and phones and hotel rooms and at least a little comfort in their otherwise chaotic life. I love Marks channel and what he does to try and comfort people for at least a few hours.

I watched this twice, back to back. I caught that statement, and it hit hard at the quality of this woman's strength of character.
Maddy, your resilience is beyond amazing. If I’ve been through a fraction of what you’ve been through I don’t know if I would still be here. I’ve had a very traumatic childhood as well, suffering from verbal and mental abuse from my very mentally ill mother and was sexually abused as an young adult, but nothing compares to the pain I’ve felt hearing your story. I pray you find peace, you deserve it my dear. I wish more people who watch porn would watch these videos and see that most of the time only the most broken people get into the industry. You are amazing hun, never give up. We are here for you!
How do you hear a 5 year old baby talking about sex toys and not get involved with getting them to safety? She was failed by so many people its heart breaking man.
And what scares me, is that as a woman in TX, and the administration, NOTHING has been done after banning our reproductive rights to STEP UP and take care of girls and children. Because in a few years... it's going to be BAD for vulnerable women & children

Damn! One of the toughest, saddest interviews you've done. How the hell is this young woman still functioning - amazing. She deserves all the help and success she can get.

She's got a sense of self-respect, and that makes all the difference. What is really amazing is that with all the bad that people have done to her and tried to do to her, they did not ever manage to take that away from her. She did the right thing each time she decided to look out for herself and left a toxic situation, even if it meant having to risk running in with the law (and she owned up to this!) or going into the unknown without a plan (that is scary and takes a lot of courage to do). She learned stuff the hard way, but learn she did. She always kept her head up in spite. Others would have been broken beyond repair, turned to drugs as painkillers or other forms of backfiring self-medication, would have suicided or seeked violent revenge. She just persevered and tried to grasp any opportunity at (more) freedom and independence that presented itself. Unfortunately it hasn't been much so far, but she keeps her head and her hopes up without an overbearing sense of entitlement and without giving up her sense of self-worth, and what's even more is that she manages to still have empathy and sympathy for the people around her. That's more than most well-to-do people her age have managed. There is so much self-hate, abuse, exploitation, bitterness and coldheartedness around, but she isn't taking part in that. That's a strong personality right there, a true character.

P.s And to be honest I haven't been to.impressed or am.most def ambivalent towards this film maker&his intentions and what exactly is truly motivating him,but this was (imo)one of his best Profiles!
@@jerryoshea3116 I get where you are coming from concerning the film maker's motivation/intention. But if there's one thing we can learn from these films it is second-guessing, empathy, a non-judgemental attitude, broadening out horizons, and not least of all developing a sense of ambiguity (well, that was more than one, actually). Aren't all of out ambitions/intentions/motivations ambiguous/ambivalent to some extent, maybe even unbeknownst to ourselves? I guess "humbleness" is the word I was looking for, that and thankfulness for what I have on the brighter side of my life.
@@elfsieben1450 She does but she doesn't. Being in an industry that demoralizes and exploits women, that's not respectful and she does work that is demeaning to her, she does it for money. So there is a lack of self love and respect she possesses. In some instances she's in denial. She has been through a lot of trauma and crap, albeit it could be a lot worse for her she really needs some consistent therapy. I think she has some emotional detachment issues. I wish her the best of luck.

I listen to many of the stories you post and they are often heartbreaking and eye opening. This story brought me to tears, but reminded me why I work in the field that I am in. I had a very, very tough week with my students suffering from severe behavioral and emotional challenges and this was my reminder to keep pushing on and helping the kids like this young lady. 💜
I think people in the comments need to remember this is not an “entertainment” channel this is a documentary of someone’s life which they willingly decided to share with you. Whether it’s true or even half of it. Who are we to judge someone’s trauma and their interpretation of their lives? Be grateful it’s not you or a loved one or maybe it does reach someone in this exact situation that needs hope. That is all this is for. It’s not for anyone to keep score of how bad someone’s abuse is, to keep score on facts, nor judge anyone on their actions. I pray Maddy continues to keep her head up high and wish her nothing but healing and success. ❤️

@@jeremyb5198 a large part of the solution would be correcting mens behavior and attitudes towards women. Correcting the way males in general are taught (often by example), to sexualize females... Our culture has commercialized the abuse.
Even the most deeply wounded can heal, through self awareness, self acceptance, kindness and understanding. Maddie being a good example of someone who has learned that growth and peace ultimately come from within. She has the strength, and the ability to be brutally honest with herself. I'm not saying she won't have times when she struggles with her trauma, but overall I think she will meet those challenges. It would be better not to dismiss and devalue survivors. It's no help to them, and we deprive ourselves of their hard won wisdom and compassion.
There are some who are never able to face their trauma, largely because they see how survivors have been treated. I live in hope, for a time when survivors aren't re-victimized when they finally summon the courage to tell their story. By families who deny their abuse, a society that shames and blames, and strangers who tell them they will never find peace.
I cried throughout most of this. I know she is not looking for pitty..... it all just is so sad :( I would have not made it as far as she has.
It just gets worse and worse the more you listen to it, but for her to be so resilient and strong in spite of all this horrible trauma is really awe-inspiring! Wish her all the best!

Doesn't mean she deserves anything she did go thru and she OBVIOUSLY has been thru something.... The problem with todays world is how overly sensitive we have all become... I am once again reminded how ridiculously lucky I am as an adult and how lucky I was as a child. These events are horrendous. It's amazing that she's even alive and talking about them.

Don't give her pity. She doesn't want anyone's pity. Be proud of her. She had every right to feel like a victim but instead she's a survivor. This is a fighter. I really respect her. We have too many victims and we need more like Maddy, a fighter and survivor.
Know why she couldn’t see herself as a victim? Because she believes no one will help her. At least those who see themselves as victims are crying for help. No one should have to go through what she did. She does need and deserve pity.

I sent this interview with a timestamp to the county of Utah where she talks about Cinnamon Hills Youth center, I hope they follow up and look into it to make sure those things still aren't happening.

@@pinkpugginz It didn't happen at Cinnamon Hills. They only take the girls monthly for a physical with a female doctor (I was the academic director at a school near there and when I watched this instantly called all the former employees I knew, including ones that rage quit and speak out against that hellhole.). All the folks I spoke to were like "Yeah-that we don't do. Was she manhandled at the facility? Probably. But we don't take anyone to the doctor monthly and if it's a GYN it has to be female." I DO have a suspicion about what school it DID happen at, and did contact the State about that one.

I'm not saying we should all seem happy if we're not, but I do sense the extreme pain she has been through and must still affect her: I'm stunned by how she can talk about her past abusers without crying--I would! Wow, what a life she has had. I cried most so far out of all the interviews. What an incredibly strong and intelligent person she is! She is living her highest timeline, proving that even the most traumatizing experiences can make one stronger, and actually help one find their inner strength. I have nothing but admiration for her.

I believe the reason so many commenters think I’m a harsh and mean interviewer is because I’m off camera and they can’t read my body language. All they hear is an ominous voice. There’s no way my interviewees would open up with me as they do if I were the person these commenters are imagining.
@@SoftWhiteUnderbelly That's really strange to me, Mark. I have never had that impression of you, not even a little bit. But we both know that individuals often project, and that's in addition to their perceptions being colored by their own experiences. The reality is, NONE of these people (women who've endured trauma especially) would open up to you if you were stern or uncaring. They'd skim the surface, say what they think you want to hear, get paid, and be on their way. The emotional vulnerability you elicit in your interviews is proof positive of who you really are and what you're trying to achieve. Anyone who claims otherwise has their head up their ass, to put it plainly. And just for the record, I have 2 years clean from heroin on February 8th, after using for 10 years. So I can relate to these stories. When I say "Thank you, Mark," it truly does come from the heart. Btw, fellow Chicagoan here! Be safe. Continue to be kind and open-minded. I thought the same thing. Standing above someone who is sitting down feels like dominance. Intentionally lying below eye level most definitely puts people at ease.

I saw an interview you did not too long ago and you looked well put together and carefully thought out in what you were saying. i think that some people struggle to process vocal tone without the visual aspect as body language is so important. But all of these people that you've interviewed, as you so rightly stated, simply wouldn't open up to you if you were this mean and uncaring person.
Although you see a serious emotional and developmental delay, she is so insightful. One after one, the adults in and around her life failed her. Social workers, medical professionals, teachers, neighbors and of course her mother. I hope she finds healing and love.

You are correct, Liza. I definitely noticed the developmental delay throughout the interview. It's as if she was speaking from an 8 to 12 year old level of development, mixed with her current early adulthood. Severe trauma will cause this type of damage. I have 3 cousins adopted from orphanages in Siberia. They are all young adults now and they each have different developmental and emotional delays.
@@x.x..x.x I was thinking perhaps she could be on the autism spectrum with alexithymia, not showing emotion like crying. Even if half the bad things happened there would be boxes of kleenex used. But she has a distance from her pain.
I'm thinking maybe her sickness/earache when she was a baby has something to do with her delay. It may have been more than that. Also the meds she was on early in life...maybe.
@@marquitashiver6141 yes, it certainly is something that caused the delay. I believe those things she talked about did happen, she just does not express them in an emotional or connected way.
So many horrible things happened to her, still she stayed so strong and didn't do drugs once. I'm so proud of you sister.

It is. I'll be 42 next month and I just started therapy, and it has affected every corner of my existence. And I have had a rough life as an adult. Praying that therapy will help me maybe be happy at some point somewhere..

This interview is astonishing with how she could even process that kind of constant violence and still articulate all that trauma in a very sober analysis and still know right from wrong. ( And without drugs!) She is one of the Very Few people you’ve interviewed that is So Deserving of your help too. So many adult abuses on every level BUT It’s Also one of the most enlightening and inspiring interviews of the human will to want to be safe, independent and happy despite real adversity.Great job Mark for letting her talk freely in your safe respectful space! She is overcome her issues without help
When people have this much trauma, they naturally dissociate from reality, as a survival mechanism. That's how she survived. It causes the detachment.
Her story is one of the most horrific I’ve heard on your show. I hope she gets out of the porn business and can start to heal from all the trauma.
It’s really incredible how often people comment on subjects like Maddie in Mark’s videos and are so amazed at how intelligent, well-spoken, and/or articulate they are. I’m guilty of it, too, but really, it’s that we’ve been living under this assumption that people who live life on the fringes, ie sex workers, addicts, criminals, must NOT be smart or they wouldn’t be in these situations. The truth is that we have thousands and thousands-maybe even millions- of broken, abused, thrown away people walking amongst us who we try to ignore even exist bc it makes us too uncomfortable. Watching this channel is a crucial exercise in developing empathy and I think the world is made better because of it. Kudos, Mark. Huge fan. You are someone who uses your talents to shine a light on humanity and the result is positive. Welearn what not to do, how not to treat others, and also how to have true empathy and compassion for all sorts of people regardless of their circumstances. That’s everything. My background is in sociology so I am fascinated by your channel. Thanks so much!
I don't think viewers believe that these people are not smart, I think that its more astonishing to watch, see and listen to how people cope with these situations.
Because so many abused are stripped of those qualities because of the abuse. I see nothing diminutive in acknowledging their strengt and spirit.
There was a girl named Suzie Diamond (From Slovakia) back in 2005-2007 time frame. Absolutely stunning! Could have been a legit model. Quit the business after 2 .5 years and literally disappeared. No social media (none that's actually her at least), no post-career interviews or podcasts.....nothing. Anybody know if she's still alive or any info on her??

Maddy is someone who’s become a shell of a person but has become so conditioned and stoic. Her face shows it all. What a brave woman.
One of the best interviews I have ever listened to. Take away the porn aspect and shes speaking facts on how to cope and move forward in life no matter your situation. Dont let her scattered thoughts fool you, shes a very intelligent and insightful person at just 24. Wish her nothing but success in the future.

This was kind of a sobering interview. This woman, who was raped multiple times and abused, has a "mutual", even positive relationship with the porn industry, that she isn't even fazed with having sex with other people on camera. I think this goes to show that she's been SO desensitized, abused and even raped in the foster system, that porn doesn't bother her. But I think action speaks louder than words, as she keeps going, trying to put a roof over her head as well as her daughter too..... She just keeps going. And I think that's a really commendable act and more importantly, a redemption on her part. Really good interview.
Would you consider a twinless twin interview? I know a beautiful woman who's had an profoundly traumatizing life, who lost her identical twin sister last April, after their 37th birthday. Their souls were knit together. They were a beautiful force to be reckoned with. Very unique. Very tragic. Very beautiful.

Damn! That was a harrowing story she told. Unbelievable. I am amazed that she is still here, still functioning. She is one tough, strong, smart young woman. I am in absolute awe of her; her strength, her intelligence, and her compassion. No child should ever have to be subjected to the kinds of abuses she experienced literally her entire childhood. You go girl! I don't know how you did it but, hell, you did.

Her foster parent(s), the men who abused her, the treatment providers, workers, should all be charged. There is no statute of limitations for this kind of abuse. These perpetrators and those who failed to protect this young woman need to be prosecuted and held accountable.
Get a legitimate advocate to provide you with a referral to a credible, kick ass, cause-driven, social Justice litigator and go after the perpetrators criminally (some jurisdictions in the US allow for financial compensation in criminal matters as well) and the child protection system/workers/treatment providers civilly… if you don’t want the $ for yourself, set up a foundation.
At the very least, you are owed justice. ✌️

This woman is amazing. She has suffered, felt pain, and has been subjected to all kinds of abuse, felt a lack of love and protection. And yet, she's in control of herself and her destiny. She has a clear head. She's her own person. Mad respect. She's very insightful - I bet she'd make a good councillor in some fashion. Maddy, you're incredible.

At first, I was shocked that these women go into and stay in the porn industry after being put through so much sexual trauma as children. But after hearing how normalized sex and body abuse become to them at such young ages, and knowing my own ability to compartmentalize trauma, its not shocking at all. You do what you know. It's what they know, and what they can access, and they have been conditioned from childhood to be on the fringes of society by abuse, lowlife parents who make them the weird kid, the smelly kid, the badly behaved kid, the odd one out, the foster kid, the runaway. Yes, but you can pretty much count them on one hand. While sexwork absolutely is a legitimate last resort profession, the problem is that you pretty much can't become a famous pornstar without actually enjoying the repeated, emotionless sex, and that is something no woman enjoys unless she's mentally broken.
Moreover, the industry is absolutely horrendous, the abuse would be completely unacceptable literally anywhere else. It's to the point where even the illegal high-end escort industry is less abusive. Porn agents are, without exception, exploitative scumbags.
The solution, however, is NOT to stigmatize the pornstars further, the solution is to recognize the profession's last resort nature, and to stop glorifying it. The industry also needs strong regulations to weed the abusers out.
This is one of the most powerful stories I have watched on SWU. Maddie is only 24 yet has the demeanor of somone twice her age and her integrity is etched into her memory of the facts. She handled herself with so much class in the face of a life time of horros from non stop betrayal. What a rare person Maddy indeed is.

Same reason people cower when they are in fear, or animals lay down and play dead. You signal you're not a threat, you can't leap over, you're full visible. It's smart. This is so heartbreaking. She's an incredibly strong person. What she described happening at that school is exactly what Paris Hilton described happening to her and other children at the schools she was sent to. It's disgusting that this is allowed. Her adoptive mother didn't protect her and just was another in a long list of people who used her.
I will never ever understand how a parent can keep anyone in their child’s life that could harm them emotionally, mentally, spiritually or physically or get jealous of their own child. This interview blew me away. I’ve been a foster care caseworker for 9 years and I have been blessed with the opportunity to shine a light on all the things she spoke about. I’ve spent so much of my career empowering my clients to seek safety and to feel comfortable in using their own voices to not only speak for themselves but also for those who are unable to.
My mantras for my career are to empower my clients to become the best versions of themselves and to use my voice to advocate for those are unable to do so for themselves. Everything she spoke of is a reality. I can’t tell you how many foster parents I’ve seen treat kids like this or use the money for everything except taking care of the kids.
I do my best every day to get my clients out foster homes like the ones she spoke of but unfortunately the system is so broken. A lot of times I find that regardless of how hard I try to promote positive change in these kids lives and the system over all so much of this is out of my hands. It’s makes me so sad. I can only hope that in the future enough people in my position receive the proper mental health care opportunities and fair compensation which will enable them to work harder to advocate for these kids. It truly breaks my heart.
What stands out in her story is the excruciating loneliness during her life. Wish Maddy all the best. She must be a very strong person, surviving the horrors she had to go through.

After she stole the car and drove from utah to California from the boarding school, why was the judge saying she was to intelligent to be sent to boarding school? Wouldn't he be more concerned about her being hit, raped, drug houses and being sent off to weird places? Something doesn't sound right to me.
After listening to her story, I feel respect and admiration towards the strength she displays. Despite everything she's lived, she has not succombed to despair. Her resilience is unmatched. I feel truly humble when listening to her story. I wish her well for the future. May her life be a lesson for others.

While it’s a testament to her strength that she has not turned to drugs to channel the traumatic pain of her past, the truth is there are many outlets for pain including volatile and turbulent relationships, seeking out partners that are not only emotionally unavailable but also completely unable to meet her needs or value her. Full healing would require her to better understand this history of codependency/love addiction as well. I absolutely wish this recovery for her, she is an amazingly powerful, intelligent woman with an incredible warriors spirit. She deserves to heal, be at peace and live a beautiful life, at only 24 years old she has many more years to live and i truly hope those ahead are kinder to her.❤️

My Aunt & Uncle who recently passed away, were married for nearly 50 years. After their kiddos were raised, they provided a loving home for foster children for many years. They were very precious & rare.

This woman is truly amazing. Not very often you come across someone who has been through as much trauma as she has and come out so level headed and the ability to take back control of her life, not getting caught up in the drug scene to escape.

Keep going one day at a time Maddy. I’m 57 years old and survived a similar level of childhood and teen trauma. I am proof you CAN break the generational abuse cycle. I am now proud a mother of 2, grandmother to 3 all pretty well adjusted.
My advice? When you are ready take your life by the balls, show your traumatised inner child that she is able to trust you, to hold your hand and step forward into a future where you provide a safe place for you both. A place to let go and become your true potential.
At your age I could never have imagined that I could be successful in just living and being true to myself.
Don’t worry what anyone else thinks, don’t dwell on the crap from the past, don’t let the abusers and abuse define your life, build a bridge and step over it.

She looks like she can be a regular member of society but the first two minutes already revealed a tragic past
The one unclear thing was moving to LA with nothing but a car seat and her baby in it. Gets a rented room, and then there was a blank (missing spot). How does she take care of her daughter when working porn shoots? She said she had nobody. Yes, you could pay for daycare, but daycare isn't care by the hour, and most would cost what a home mortgage would. She seemingly quit the porn industry. What does she do now, and how does she care for her child? Not insinuating anything about truthfulness. It was just a void in the story somehow.
She said that having an abortion was worse trauma than her being raped, and I think facts like that don’t get enough attention
