Clearly, the Decemberists listened to the "Drums->Space" part of Greatful Dead shows in the 80s-90s and said "yep, lets do that!". Seriously, good song, not super familiar with their stuff, but heard a story about this song on NPR so thought I'd check it out. Thanks!!
How come 2 of my favorite songs ive found in the last year are both songs where half the runtime doesnt even have lyrics and is dedicated to the sick guitar playing
Fantastic sound & perfect recording. Mid-song ads ruin the vibe though. So disappointing. Why would they do that? If you could get rid of those it would be a clear winner!
ads are posted automatically when someone posts copy-righted content, so that the record label still gets a profit off of (technically) illegally posted copyrighted audio. It sucks but its not the poster's fault, its an automatic youtube policy.
As a touring musician, none. That drummer doesn't have headphones on and if you listen really closely you can hear tiny timing mistakes, no way they had a backing track.

I am going to say the instrumental part a reference is space prior to the big bang. Time travel. Then a warning for modern times in the final part.
