    Very nicely done, Pete! Great overview of the kit and some of it's pro's and cons. Looks like a lot of fun, I was thinking of getting one in the near future, but so many projects on the go at the moment! Funny, I think we released a video at exactly the same time! Anyway, have a great weekend, mate, get those beers lined up! Cheers! :O)

      Hiya mate. Oh yeah I scheduled mine for 3pm as it's about the time I get in from work. Same for you? I will set myself up with a beer before starting yours. Just got in and watched the Red Arrows flying over the house. It's air show weekend. Will pop down and have a look tomorrow. Not sure what planes are flying but it is free and a good excuse for a picnic. Anyway yes the Hornet is one that I did wonder about replacing because the handling is a bit rubbish. It is a Tamiya classic though and as you saw it's unstoppable with those tyres. Looking back at the footage made me realise that I missed having it. I do prefer the Lunchbox however because the soft tyres make up for the rubbish suspension. Anyway, hope you have a beer on the go too. Cheers mate :-)

    Really awesome job you do with these videos. You make 8 minutes feel like 1 minut 🙂 Top job. And congrats with your new Hornet 🐝 Will be awesome to see it again on your channel. I very well remember your old red one. Hope you’re having a great weekend, Pete.

      Hiya Mikael. Yeah watching the old videos made me realise that I missed having this in the collection. The ground will soon be soggy again so be great to blast it around in the puddles. Thanks for your kind comments my friend. I hope all is well with you 😁

    I love the hornet . It’s the one I always wanted as a kid and it’s just so much fun . Tough as nails and I just love the look of it . Those rear wheels are probably my favourite tires

      Yeah it's a classic. Slightly rubbish or should I say vintage handling, but fun like you say. Yes you can drive over nearly anything with those tyres! Many thanks for watching Dom 😁

    Hi Pete, hope you’re keeping well. Oh my childhood memories came flooding back. This was my first Tamiya that I was able to afford to buy back in 1984, I would have been 13! I remember the chassis and that famous sliding gearbox system well. I remember painting the inside of the lean with Tamiya brush paints (oh nasty!) and using the 7.2v hump NiCd packs, changing to stick versions of NiCd at a later date. I remember rushing with friends to Ascot racecourse and having the hornet blasting in and over the golf course bunkers ! Oh happy days! Great memory lane video. Off next week to my gallbladder out and umbilical hernia repaired! Oh joy! 😉👌😁

      @PeteWylieRC  3 года назад +1

      Hiya John. Oh so proper nostalgia for you then. I guess that the brush pot paints are good for doing little bits without the need to mask up. Spray cans defo better for big areas. It does sound like you had a lot of fun with yours. Thanks for sharing the memories. Ooh sorry to hear that you have health things to sort out. Good luck with all that and I wish you a speedy recovery mate :-)

    Mate.... I agree with you on the "time period" handling of the Hopper series. My Axial Wraith would kick the Hornet in the teeth!! But honestly, the Hornet conjures up much more emotion and smiles!! Good purchase Pete!! 😎😁🍻🍻
    BTW, Stainless Steel Bearings mitigates the Rust problem. 😉
    Have FUN!! In November, I'll be reliving 1985 meself - when my Wild One FINALLY gets here!! First time I ever pre-ordered something in my life - but I wanted it too badly! Cheers and have a great Weekend!! 🍻🍻🍻

    • @PeteWylieRC
      @PeteWylieRC  3 года назад +2

      Hiya Carmine. How's it going? Yeah these are not RC's with good handling but sometimes you don't just want a car that goes where you expect it to. Also the nostalgia can't be underestimated. I didn't realise that you could buy stainless steel bearings. I will look out for them next time I'm looking so thanks for the tip. Oh yes I may just have a Wild One on order myself. I think that quite a few people have that one ordered. I hope they make enough of them! Anyway, many thanks for watching mate and I hope that all is well with you 😁

    • @CarminesRCTipsandTricks
      @CarminesRCTipsandTricks 3 года назад

      Pete, Fast Eddy Bearings are Stainless by default, if you can find them there. They cover nearly ALL Tamiyas... I even saw a set for the CHEETAH! I haven't seen one of those since I was very young and stupid.
      Unbelievably, I missed the Wild One in 85, 97 and 14!!! (Last one because I was poor....)
      I preordered the standard red and Blockhead versions. 50% down at Horizon Hobbies and I'm guaranteed to get the first batch to the U.S.!!! 😊😉🍻🍻
      STILL have to wait until November! 😠😭😭

    Hi Pete! Thanks for the overview. I haven't taken the plunge on this kit yet... Who knows, maybe one day I'll be tempted. In the meantime I'm more tempted by a glass of wine tonight... I hope you're well, mate. The sun has been willing to come back in the last few hours and it feels good. Thanks again and see you soon. Take care.

      Hiya Alex. How's it going mate? Yeah like I was saying in the video these aren't the greatest handling cars but they do have some plus points and obviously a Tamiya classic! All good here. Yesterday we got to a pub that I haven't been to since before Covid happened. Really good, had some 7% alcohol ale which was rather tasty. Slightly thick head today. Hope you enjoyed your wine yesterday. Best wishes mate. Hope all is well 😁

    Great walk through and unboxing Pete. Those shots of the Hornet bashing through the puddles, pure fun!!!! And as you say, "over powered Tamiya's" Who hasn't done that? Like putting an 11 turn brushed motor in a Blackfoot with 7 cells (personal flash-back). Awesome job Mate, have a pint on me!!

    • @PeteWylieRC
      @PeteWylieRC  3 года назад +1

      Hiya Bob. Yeah I think that the fun of the hobby comes from the car being slightly out of control and needing a deft touch on the transmitter. I am indeed enjoying a lovely pint or two with it being a Friday. Hope you are enjoying the start of the weekend too mate. Cheers for your great comments as ever 😁

    I always wanted this when I was a kid but we used to scratch build control line planes. Radio gear was the price of a good used car so control line it was . Back then this was the amazing and we all wanted one . These days we are so lucky to have all these beasts and spoilt for choice to. Think I'll get rid a couple of traxxas and build more Tamiyas and Kyoshos. Great review again Pete .

    • @PeteWylieRC
      @PeteWylieRC  3 года назад

      Hi there. Oh yes the radio gear was the most expensive but as far as I can remember. We had 1 set that we transferred into the different cars and also a glider. We had a control line plane too. Yes it is great now that we can get these kits and also the electronics have come an awful long way since my youth. Yeah the Traxxas ones are tougher in general but building these Tamiyas is such fun and you get all the nostalgia too. Many thanks for your great comments 😀

    • @petergoodwin2465
      @petergoodwin2465 3 года назад

      @@PeteWylieRC so true mate , we used to build the planes at an old fighter pilots house , he had planes called free flight that had timers to cut fuel and pop the tail up. We ran for miles to recover them. Would always knock off a few of dad's beers after that. So right about the nostalgia and the builds are great fun. I keep breaking the traxxas stuff and especially the arms on the 4s outcast Arrma , had to replace them with Gpm . Haven't wrecked much Tamiya stuff because they're light but destroyed a lot of shells especially when I'm having a few beers in the park out the back of my place . We've lost so many parts out there the wife calls it the wrecking yard and pick a part . I think the toughest car I've had for years is the old kyosho ultima, it did 75ks but I backed off on speed runs. The only damage I've had is a bent motor guard but the thing seems to survive anything. Hopefully my luck with the Tamiyas holds out and they survive to. Seems like everything has its weak points but I'll never buy a traxxas again, for the money I'd rather build and upgrade a Tamiya or buy an Arrma. Have a good weekend mate and don't drink too much like me.ha ,ha,

    • @PeteWylieRC
      @PeteWylieRC  3 года назад

      @@petergoodwin2465 sounds like happy days indeed. Before we had a glider with radio control we had the ones that you just throw off a hill and hope you can get to where it lands. Yeah I don't think that there is an RC on the market that is tough in every respect. My go to bashers are the Arrma 3s. My Tamiya DT-02 with lexan beetle shell and a few hop ups is pretty strong. Also the lunchbox with lexan shell will take quite a beating. I might just have a little drinky later. Have a good weekend mate 😁🍺🍺🍺

      Hi there. Oh yeah I did run the previous one on the beach and it was great until the suspension got all clogged up. The lunchbox doesn't seem to get clogged up so much despite being very similar. I think it's because it's higher off the ground with the big tyres. Anyway, I'll give this one a go on the beach once built and try to avoid the wet sand! Cheers for watching and commenting my friend 😁

    Hi Pete. Nice you are able to replenish the kits you lost in the fire. I love this and the Hopper just to get that 80's feeling back. Great video as always and thanks for the mention. I hope to get back out soon as the projects are coming together.... it's waiting on parts which slows things up a bit. 👍🏼

    • @PeteWylieRC
      @PeteWylieRC  3 года назад +1

      Hiya Damian. Yeah there is definitely something about driving these 80's RC's that you can't get from a modern RC. Just need a Duran Duran cassette in the Walkman and I can imagine I'm a young person again 😁 Oh yeah I remembered your video which I've now rewatched. I think I was basically doing the same thing but it seemed much harder somehow! Hey which kit has the wheels that fit the spiked tyres but in the gunmetal plastic? I was thinking that you could only get the gunmetal with the Rough Rider wheels that are a bit bigger and only fit the block tyres? Anyway I hope you get the parts you require for your projects soon. I've got some nice projects coming up. Meanwhile I'm having a lovely strong IPA in the garden 😁🍺🍺 Have a great weekend mate 😃

    • @PeteWylieRC
      @PeteWylieRC  3 года назад +1

      Hiya Rob. Yeah it's a nice design this one and a classic obviously. The rear shocks are even better than you think because instead of a rubber diaphragm to allow for the change of oil volume, they have a sort of spring loaded piston inside the top of the shock. That's how I remember it anyway from the first one I built. Cheers for watching mate. Best wishes to you 😁
