It was my first RC car, a hand me down from my uncle so very sentimental to me and to see this with a modern twist has left me wowed! The paint job is awesome suits the colours and the livery. 1989, I’ve stripped the paint of my first car (Sonic Fighter as you may know) and repainted it. White with neon green, yellow and pink. Wasn’t a week before one of the neighbor hood kids had to have it so bad he traded me a bicycle worth about 4 times the value of the car. The paint definitely matches the era and has taken me right to that “back in the day” time period!! Mission accomplished sir!!

I'm a fan of custom Hornets . I did a candy red body then had MCI do the decals in red white and blue . Painted the wheels silver . Looked straight out of 1980's America. I loved that thing .

This is the car that got me started in rc . I had the hornet and the super hornet when I was a kid. Those were my first 2 rc cars.

Looks great Glenn 👌👍 I'm pretty fussy about box art from TAMIYA but it's not always necessary. I mean it's similar to buying a clear aftermarket body shell that was not part of a kit and then try to conjure up a paint scheme. Great video presentation Glenn 👍👌

If we are being completely honest Glenn, I absolutely love it!! I'm also an 80's kid, and I remember the neon quite well my friend 😁 I have a re-re Hornet, and did mine in box art, but you nailed it with the white and neon yellow mate! The Tamiya Legends decals are awesome!! Great job friend. And detailing all of the bits like the crash bars, windows, and the rear wing was brilliant 👍🏻😁

Ps I’m not a Tamiya owner but I often think about getting one especially after I watch your vids. The Castrol Supra is the one for me if I do. You sir are an artist! True, you're chosen canvas is the form of a 3-dimensional RC car body but you are an artist nevertheless. Yes sir, it IS better than boxart in my opinion. I think Picasso would approve. 😉
Perhaps for the Grasshopper build, use lime or neon green with white and similar stickers to your Hornet?? Anyway, whatever you come up with will be awesome, no doubt about that. 👍

Wanted one bad as a kid but it was sold out so ended up with Tamiya’s Subaru Brat, the run time was so bad I didn’t use it after that summer

Now Thats A Beast-Definitely captured the 80's Theme and can still tell its a IConIC Hornet from back in the day , Youve Done it again Glenn Working your magic and its paid off real well , twin spotlights look cool as well as the netting and doing the matching grasshopper would be just as cool, myself have bought the Black edition grasshopper 2 and the candy edition grasshoppper just to be different whether i get the standard white edition to the collection i doubt but who knows and the Fluro colors never get old and always look sharp Nice Job bud well done 🙂

Nice paint job story, this car was my first rc car ever, I wanted to get the ford f-150 ranger but was no more for sale, so I did buy the hornet which is great for a beginner with stock motor, but if you push it faster the chassis will brake in some spots.

My friend nice work . Box art is always a safe way to go , however the Hornet has been around for such a long time , we have seen the typical black and yellow colors more then enough. I certainly can appreciate the change . It keeps the hobby interesting , change is good and illustrating it your way keeps the hobby fun .

Love it Glen.. As you know I’m a big box art fan.. this is just what we did wasn’t it back then.. It really looks great in the neon.. It just so happens the TTO2B plasma edge the family bought me for my 50th is nearly finished and I have bought 2 tins of paint from core RC… it’s the brightest neon pink I’ve ever seen!!!!. It will either look as sick as a pig or superb!!!. Seeing what you’ve done with the hornet gives me the confidence to crack on🤣🤣🤣

The colour/livery is perfectly fine. Its the sponsor decals I would have fiddled around with a took a bit of time to replace or put in combination with others. My eyesight is going off due to old age, and I appreciate the high vis yellow very much. Great build. Thanks for sharing.

That looks brilliant, great job. If I were going fluro, and had the skills, I'd use the original stripe pattern as a basis to use fluro yellow, green, blue and pink; the marker pens many of us had in our pencil cases back in the day. Backed in white, it'd pop like nothing else.
For the grasshopper, you've got to go fluro green if you can.

For what it's worth, I like it. Hornet is an all time favourite, can't go wrong really. Yeah I was going to mention how cutting the window lexan out weakens the body badly, but you beat me to it.

I ‘m glad you brought out the hornet.. and goodness! It looks absolutely fantastic in “Tamiya Legends” fashion! The only weakness I see, is that the 4 neon spotlights are blending into the neon body. I think off-white color would look better for the spotlights.

Love it, definitely do the grasshopper too. The only thing I would love to see and I think it would look pretty awesome and thats to paint the wheels centre's neon and leave the rims white or vice versa (2 tone wheels)

Love it can't beat a big of 80s florescent colours, yes I did have bright pink and yellow soaks back then lol just finished a non box art one to run at revival next year in mattaljc blue white and flluro pink

Love it, sure looks like an '80s period piece. I'd love to see a matching Grasshopper in a different colour, like pink or green. I'm restoring an original Hornet at the moment and building a re-re Grasshopper with my 7 year-old, so lots of hopper activity at our place right now.

I also just want to say I appreciate how you don't put stupid Barbie commercials on your vids like some others do and I really appreciate how passionate you are about the hobby and how you come up with these different livery's ( I dunno if I spelled that correct lol)
Because of how enthusiastic and authentic you are I could watch you paint that same car a million different ways and I'm pretty sure everyone else here feels the same.
