This car was my little brother's first car, unfortunately he passed last February, but this video brought back fond memories of him racing against my modified hornet with his raider!
The Raider was my first ever RC car and my dad built it for me for Christmas when I was about 10 years old. So much nostalgia watching this. 😊. Thank you🙏
My friend has a Raider Pro from the early 90s thats been sitting ever since. barely any scratches on the ol girl. Been eyeing it up for years and was offered to trade a TT02 for it in a bit. Cannot wait to get my hands on it and preserve the original tires, shell and drivetrain and replace with something else
This was my first car. I worked all summer to save up 70 usd to buy this from tower hobbies. I ended spending so much time and upgrades, including custom machined polished brass bulkhead supports. Lol. I miss that car. Thanks for the video!
I can’t think of a more qualified RUclipsr to bring this classic RC to life! My first real car was a Raider ARR with the Pulsar 2000 radio from Tower Hobbies! I thought I was Joel Johnson with that rotary speed controller and Lemans Stock 05 motor. Thanks for sharing this.
I really wanted an Icarus back in the day. I remember more if the ARR Raiders being sold because they were assembled with the motor and MSC and just needed radio gear. I liked the kits. I know the Raider was a kit as well, but I remember the ARR more

I think the deep red looks good, real Kyosho racing red. Looks incredible. I remember a kid having one of these at our race club, it was quick and way quicker than most of the Tamiya's.
IM so jeleous ,,probably the same age as you, first buggy was the futaba FX10 and never looked back I'm still hooked!.. I'm jealous because you have kept all yours for the true hobby..I had to sell one to get one fx10 for the lunchbox for the midnight pumpkin for the Blackfoot for the clodbuster on and on to today .
Beautiful result. I have a Raider ARR, and just as that box art screams 1991, this look really does the same for 1987. In a very, very good way, of course. To me, the somewhat scale looking buggys of the era are the coolest.

Glenn this is such torture for me haha. I had a Turbo Raider growing up as my first serious kit. Since I've gotten back into the hobby the one thing that "haunts' me is this kit. The price they go for now is a bit out of my range but I'm happy to see you have made such a beautiful example. I can't bring myself to watch the video but I hope it brings you as much joy and fun as it dd for me as a kid. Mine was a Christmas present btw. Happy Holidays!.
I hear you about the windows being black, clear for me is a bit of an issue too unless there is a driver hiding what's inside, the solution could well be a tint. I'm virtually new to RC and am amazed as to how big the hobby is (have just purchased my first 2 builds ever for the New Year, a TT-02 Imprezza and a TT-02B Plasma Edge, Kyosho next I hope), and there are some real enthusiasts and some fine work being done (The After Hours Mechanic might be top of this list?). Never seen the raider before, great looking car, well done and congratulations. Looking forward to what projects the new year brings for you and the few others I keep an eye on in the RC world, some builders, some bashers, but all interesting and fun. Merry Christmas and keep up the good work.
It is a great looking buggy! I wish they would re-release this and the Rocky at some point! It looks wonderful and will look great in the cabinets! I like it with the black and red shock on there. Merry Christmas Glenn!

It looks amazing! That car sure found the right home. Those things always jumped out of the Tower Hobbies catalog into my eyeballs when I was a kid - lined up with the ARR and Turbo versions, it made an enticing picture. I wonder what the chances are of Kyosho making them again.
the Raider with the mid motor was rare for it's time, others were all with a rear motor, would be great if you got the Turbo Raider also in your collection

Just the car, a bit less than 100 bucks maybe? Its funny because where I am at (in another country, for sure), Tamiya had very little prescence in the lower ends, and it was Kyosho all round. The only popular Tamiya was the small, toy grade monster beetle that ran on AA batteries.
Where's the 2 screws, washers and elastic band for the receiver cradle? Like how they used to transport nitroglycerin in a horse drawn wagon? You need to preserve such a unique way to mount a receiver.
I built an the body blew away in the wind before i could paint it so i put a black foot body on it then one day i found the body on the lot next to my house
I lacked the necessary skills to paint my Pro properly back in the day, but luckily I was able to strip it during the rebuild without harming the decals. So it will get a proper coat of paint once the weather improves.

Top tip Glenn. Drop your paint cans in some hot water and shake well. Helps when its cold out.
