I know SO many people who have been denied coverage or whose doctors are terrified to order comprehensive bloodwork and preventative screenings that can save a patients lives. Drug costs in America are higher than anywhere else in the WORLD. It’s outrageous. It has to stop. Brigham is teaches us their dirty tricks so we can safeguard ourselves and our family from this rampant corruption and greed. Share your story here. Let me know what you thought of this show. My insurance company charged me $400 for a service that the doctor only charged them $100 for. They told me they have a contract with the provider that says no matter what the actual cost, they have to charge me $400. So, if the service cost $1, I would be billed $400. It would have been cheaper without insurance. I DON’T understand how this is legal.

As a father in IL, I drove to Mayo in MN as I couldn’t accept it. The doc at Mayo said there is zero incentive for medical to ever come up with a cure. He looked at me and said they will make millions off my son in a lifetime-how much could they charge for a magic pill to cure your son? I was floored and started reading how that industry feeds and wants people to be sick.

I work in insurance and have a rudimentary understanding of big insurance. I’m infuriated for the people I talk to every day, especially the elderly I speak to about how their insurance is hardly doing anything for them anymore. I’m ready to cut our health insurance for our family and going as self pay to a doctor. My husband is always saying but “what if this”. But we pay over 400 a month for something we use for our one wellness visit for our kids and the occasional cold. I’d rather save that money month over month and then if we run into an issue we have WAY more control over a big medical bill than dealing with insurance not paying on something we paid our hard earned money to have to take care of us. They don’t want to take care of people. They don’t even LIKE us. We are just claims and numbers.
I do need to get my labs, but I do a “rough” “dexa” when I stop in supplement superstore, utilize my wearables, a scale that measures things like bone mass (i know it’s not super accurate but gives me an idea), eat very well due to celiac disease and work out 5 days a week weight training and spending time with my four boys outside. I make a lot of things from scratch and homemake our cleaning products for our home. My kids, husband and I deserve the best for our bodies! And I say it as a health coach and personal trainer.

My medicare plan was paying 80% of my naturalpath doctor visits up to 6 visits a year. This year the plan said in order to have them keep paying this I would have to pay $44 a month even if I only had 1 visit for the year. Not paying the $44/month; not worth it. I go to a naturalpath for monitoring my thyroid hormone level. I need a test for TSH, frT4 and frT3 every 6 months to evaluate that med dose is neither too much nor too little, and if just T4 is needed or T3 or a combination. The medical doctor (a physician's assistant) will only test for TSH once a year (standard of care).

This is why I don't have much trust for doctors or the Healthcare industry. I've worked behind the scenes at hospitals and doctors offices. There are a good handful of doctors who are motivated to push drugs because they know if they push enough they'll get free lunches or a vacation. One doctor I worked with was obsessed with the free lunch everyday but he always wanted meat. One day a rep brought in these giant baked potatoes with every topping imaginable. It was like a potato buffet. The doctor came in and saw it and screamed, "where is the meat?!" and threw his potato against the wall. It was nuts. We also had an office manager who would hide cialis so she could sell it on the street. If the rep came we had to hide it from her. It was ridiculous. Then there were patients who were clearly addicted to Adderall and other things. They'd finish their refills early and stake out the office to try and get early refills.

I went to my doctor because I thought something was wrong with me because I have the energy level of a 5 yr old which is very unusual for someone my age (and even for those that are younger). After some blood tests, she told me I’m healthy and that’s what happens when your healthy.

From my perspective, the main reason that there is not outrage, is that the problems were hugely exacerbated with the implementation of Obamacare, under which the only real winners were the insurance companies. If you say that out loud, you are labeled a racist, a bigot, and a classist. Thus, it becomes really tiresome to try to keep up this fight. I agree with you totally: if you ask the insurance company to pay for something that they are legally bound to pay for, they will just say that the provider “coded it wrong.” I call complete bullshit on that: my pap smear (one every 3 years) was not covered by the insurance company, and my provider only does Pap smears, she knows how to code. It’s a complete nightmare.

These injectables are the next ‘drive-through breakthrough.’ We all want the quick fix. They did this or started doing this 20 years ago with the gastric bypass surgery. A lot of people got that surgery and yes, they did lose weight, but they did not change their behavior about food and eating. YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE BEHAVIOR FOR LIFE LASTING RESULTS. A few people that I know in my circle that had that surgery are now once again overweight. My niece took Ozempic and she did lose weight, but once her insurance company decided to no longer cover the cost of the drug, she was forced to go off it, and the weight promptly returned. These medication’s are often designed for lifelong consumption because that’s what guarantees long-standing revenue. I’m 57 years old and I am on no prescription drugs and I don’t plan to ever be. That’s my goal as I continue to age. I would not want to be enslaved to taking any kind of pharmaceutical medication for the rest of my life.

Someone please explain the “required” insurance company “wellness” exam! Isn’t this what your primary doctor is for? I see this completely a money maker for the insurance companies. Add the revenue of just this one unnecessary appointment cost to their bottom line. And all they do is ask gotcha questions that can lead to more appointments and “services” or prescribing meds! Not to mention these “exams” are conducted by third party companies and interviewers that the company chooses and we are forced to go to. Where is our privacy or right to our personal choice of our health.

I struggle with life long mental health and physical pain and come to find out that psych meds were not helping because my mental health were coming from immune dysfunction like NK cells and B cells and T cells and Candida and SIBo and inability to absorb nutrients and out of control allergies from immune dysfunction.
Once I started treating other issues my treatment resistance mental health improved where I am still on psych meds due to my Cetachlomines levels are out of balance in my gut
Due to inflammation of my gut and sibo and candida in my gut.
But I never heard a dr talk to me about all these other things……
Except 1 Gastro dr said once my stomach and intestines are my second brain. And now I understand because most of the hormones that cause mental health in the brain are in the gut also. And there is blood tests for psychiatric conditions
The immune function and Cetachlomines levels are the mental health indicators

Yeah the moment he said LLM / AI he pretty much lost credibility. Healthcare in the US does need significant work done, this guy is just trying to bring in business and investors.
HMO's suck bad, almost everything he talked about was HMO related as those guys are just there to siphon up subscription fees from your employer while finding ways to deny coverage. The thing with HMO's is that most of their income is from your subscription fees, you pay them up front and after they got your money they have zero incentive to provide you with anything. I always recommend anyone who can do math to go with HDCP + HSA, especially if they can get their employer to contribute to it. Move almost all your healthcare costs to pre-tax dollars with the ability to make your own appointments and not needing any referrals or pre-approvals.

Serious question, how do we keep Allen, your AI, from nefariously sharing our private health information? I have serious privacy concerns with AI having all of my personal information. Health data is one of the TOP areas hackers go after to steal your identity.

Ok. So what avenues for good care do people who are forced to be on Medicare due to their age have unless they are wealthy? I am and have been of this mindset that you are setting forth. I don’t utilize my Medicare except in dire situations: I e I had a broken bone from an accident and needed surgery. But what are my options as I already have to pay what is a much higher amount than I was when I WAS SELF INSURED AS A SMALL BIZ OWNER. I am now forced to participate in the Medicare system.
If I opt out then I’m in trouble if something serious occurs but I could be spending that premium each month for healthcare in a functional medicine setting instead.

I really don’t trust a person who owns a compound pharmacy and promotes it in order to take more clients from regular pharmacy.

That's your choice, but you might rethink you reasoning as compound pharmacists were/are the ones helping people get ivermectin, HCQ and other repurposed drugs that are cheaper and made custom for the patient when chain pharmacies refuse even when a doctor wrote a prescription.
