Origins has good designed ropes. Most of the cities its quite good for parkour, not that good like older AC, but not too bad like copy paste cities in Odyssey. I like Alexandria.
@Bzake its just that one should spend a lot of time exploring the world in order to find places to exercise these contextual moves, and then remember it in order to choreograph all this video. Cuz this is ac origins, the parkour here depends on the context, there is little control here. He cant just do that move at will.

Older "pure" AC titles are just as contextual but it was like parkour on rails or training wheels which allowed it to be more fluid/flashy... there were only cetain avenues you could use. In Origins nearly everything *can* be navigated and *you* have to figure out what is the most fluid/efficient in real-time. I think it's super satisfying in its own way.
Not only would it have been more fun but it also wouldn't have been hard to implement. There was already a few vault animations in the game and it could have simply been hold circle instead of x, or b instead of a. Would have given the player much more control over the style of bayeks movement
After spending a year with this game after its initial release, it became my favorite in the series. The world, characters and story are to me the pinnacle of the franchise.
its one of my favourites but i mostly like it for Egypt and the combat, truth be told i found the story and parkour underwhelming for the most part, so i like Origins but its not as good as AC4 or Unity (in my opinion, of course)

Origins brought back what I liked about AC. Yes there's level system that's sort of bummer for old school fans. But it's very simplistic and I really request them to just go with it for a few hours until you get some upgrades and I assure that there's that old school assassin's creed hidden under it with a good story too. It's that last well-made AC worth playing.

If I had to describe the parkour in the latest AC games (the rpg trilogy) I would just describe it as functional but not fun. It lacks control: you do everything with just one or two buttons and you often find yourself on the wrong ledges. It has no style so you never feel cool doing it, although that could speak about the characters personalities: maybe Arno is a young stylish guy that likes to show off, while Eivor or Bayek are more like soldiers, practical and rough people. The real issue is the lack of control and inputs needed, because that makes parkouring not challenging and rewarding. And of course, the big open maps do not favor parkour, even though they're stunning and fun to explore. Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are good games, they're objectively better than most entries of the series; but they lack those crucial elements that make a good AC game, like a good parkouring system
think you summed it up nicely. it works, but thats it the one thing i do appreciate and respect is how the developers mapped Bayek to climb mountain sides and make it look genuine

I actually love it. I felt similarly at first but it grew on me as I adapted. Overall it has a pace and feel that reminds of AC1 which I really love... It's more grounded and not as fast/flash Spider-man sort of action. But I love that you have to be much more responsive and that you can transition to any attack at most any point.... once you figure it out. It's very contextual and deliberate for certain... but I did find it fun.
Imagine those poor people, returning home. And go upstairs to pick all their spices and blankets that they had left to dry out in the sun, only to see dirty foot prints on them because some guy in a hood was doing Parkour all over the city rooftops 😂
Ngl parkour in this RPG approach is overall the smoothest of all the franchise. The problem is that the animations aren't as cool as Unity's, Syndicate's or even the "Connor trilogy". That's probably why parkour in Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla is considered bad or at least a step back from what we already had

It's probably because the game does it all for you. Everything is automated whereas when you was playing as Ezio, Connor or Edward all the input was mostly on you.

100%. It just takes a bit more of a learning curve and you have to pay a LOT more attention to surroundings. It's more grounded and realistic in many ways. It's almost more satisfying at times. And at any of those moments you can transition to stealth attacks or slow-mo bow strikes. Love it.
Did you know you can actually pole vault in this game? As in, you can swing off ropes and wooden beams, rather than always climbing up on them. To do this, jump towards the beam and before you reach it, let go of your forward input and only hold the Parkour button. Instead of climbing up, Bayek will start swinging on the pole, and you can now press forward to leap off, or backwards to change direction. There's even a special animation for swinging into a leap of faith, with Bayek doing a snazzy backflip.
I remember back in 2017 liking it. While of course it was an obvious downgrade from the Unity/Syndicate parkour, the free maneuverability upon any surface felt fluid and made sense for the grand open world they designed.
Compared to my experience in Odyssey and Valhalla, this definitely seems to have fewer momentum breaks when moving, though that could be down to the player.
I think Origins city design hid the limitations of the parkour system better. Makes sense why the parkour feels noticeably worse in Odyssey despite it being the same system.

honestly i really like origins parkour, i think its smooth it works well with its environments, easy to manage n not faulty jumps that mess up everything like in AC2 imo... its sloppy in parts with no much space n a little junky in the jumps but on the most part i really liked this games parkour system

Don't get me wrong, I understand where youre coming from, this is the worst parkour assassin's Creed has ever had. I absolutely hated this portion of the game, especially considering it is assassin's Creed. But the world building, atmosphere, and styling are meant to be different than traditional assassin's Creed, and I feel like this game did it best out of all 3 of the rpg acs. That being said, I'm with you, I play assassin's Creed for stylish parkour, and this shit is even worse than the parkour in assassin's Creed 3, and that's saying something

There's zero fostering of any ideology of Assassin's or Templars. The game starts with the Templars already existing. Never shows or gives light into how they started either. It's a terrible explanation for the games events.

As fluid as this is, its limited based on its environment, there is only so much you can do with open space You know what didnt have this problem, AC Revelations.

Agreed. It brought me back to AC1 in many ways. Haven't enjoyed an AC title like Origins in forever. And on next-gen is absolute shines in 60fps.

Yes, it is smooth. But the parkour animation lacks style unlike its previous predecessors. Ubisoft really went function over form with this one.

@@thedudejqn yeah the jumps in those games with free run up were mad weird too but the parkour in unity was still better than AC origins and syndicate
As fluid as this is, its limited based on its environment, there is only so much you can do with open space
