@@garrick3727 Odyssey is in between but more like Origins. Just play as Cassandra and don't google any of the choices and have fun and see what happens.
I think one of the most over looked features of the newer games is the discovery tours. I spent 125 hours including the platinum and the dlc packs and I still went back for another 30 hours in the tours. It was great to go go back and learn all this interesting stuff
@@zzodysseuszz that’s awesome. I remember being fascinated with Egyptian mythology as a kid after doing a social studies project on it. So playing AC Origins was like my childhood imagination/fantasy come to life
@@zzodysseuszz I remember the origins one being particularly praised for its educational value. Odyssey too. They consult history professors for them from what I have heard.
My favorite Discovery Tour imo is AC Valhalla since they made it into a short DLC with an interesting slice of life story that I liked more than Eivor's. Origins would be better because of its educational value and representation.
Npc routines are amazing in this game, but the one that blew me away, it was a funeral procession going across to a town, I followed them and when they arrived the were performing a ceremony, just awesome.
One of the reasons I love Origins and Unity is because how immersive the world is... There is so much detail put into the world building form the NPCs to the arctichture... I want to really feel like what it was like during those time periodd
One big thing that was missing from both Origins and Unity was spinning thread! People used to have spin thread to make clothes all the bloody time! It's why when the industrial revolution came along one of the first thing it was used for was to spin thread, so people didn't have to do it all the time!
Fun fact: AC Origins actually takes place during the decline of Egypt as a breakthrough society. The Golden Age of Egypt actually takes place 1000 or so years before this game.
True. I really hope ubisoft will make another ac game based on ancient egypt during it's peak of culture and glory, like during the reign of Ramses II or the founding of the "order of the ancients" by pharaoh Smenkhkare, in accordance to the AC lore. I'd really like see Isu versions of egyptian gods so badly.
It's a real shame they didn't give Bayek a sequel. To me it felt like a logical next step, the story was competent enough to warrant exploring more of his future, not to mention the cliffhanger of him and Aya, where they both decided to dedicate their life to a new creed, potentially showing how Bayek helped start the foundation for the Assassin's. For some reason they really don't want to flesh out characters over multiple games anymore. Which is unfortunate.
One of my most memorable/satisfying moments of my play-through of origins was getting my ass absolutely wrecked in Origins by the phylakes in the early game, and after grinding to around mid game to level up and get stronger slowly taking out more and more of them. Really hunted becomes hunter moment for me that was never properly redone in the later games.
In my playthrough I never came even close to crossing paths with one of them. I'd see them wandering around the world but never anywhere near me. It wasn't until the endgame that I decided to go out of my way to hunt one of them down and by that point it wasn't much of a challenge.
@@roarsack503 So you never had that warning and that howling horn sound whenever they're close? Damn that was an experience in itself for me personally
@@yupickmyusername I may have got it once or twice but then I'd look at the map and they'd be heading in a completely opposite direction to where I was, so I didn't pay attention to them.
The world in this game is just on another level. The attention to detail and the way the team depicted the people's habits, the way they worked, the accuracy of the maps from a historic point of view..ugh so good. At one point I was just strolling around a small town and stumbled into some npcs painting portraits on some sarcophagus, went around the spot and another npc was dyeing fabrics, preparing salt and various herbs to embalm the dead ones. Then googled about it to find out more and found out everything actually existed. It was related to the Fayum mummy portraits. A mix of Greek and Egyptian naturalistic portraits where the two cultures clashed and brought up something new. That's just one spot on that whole map. The discovery tour is gorgeously made too.
well thanks for sharing!!! thats amazing. i feel the same way about cyberpunk 2077. the world is full of lore and streets never end. if you gave up on that game...try it again for sure. for the world/character building
Origins is my favourite AC game, it's the perfect blend of the original AC games and the newer RPG style. They went too far with Odyssey and it's just not been the same since.
@@nicolot4652 In my opinion, both games compliment each other extremely well. You can't tell me the combat is better in Origins, it's not, to make that claim would be a joke. On the other hand, you can't beat ancient Egypt, you would think, but Odysessy has the most beautiful ocean waters and the sharks and a beautiful reef. Origins is mostly desert, or city surrounded by desert and when you are lucky, grasslands. Odysessy has beautiful vegetation and really is the better looking game, the DLCS are insane bro, you have no idea! One of the DLCS is okay, without ruining it, it's dark and looks kinda like hellish place. The other DLC is the most beautiful vegetation in the whole entire game, it's mind-blowing.
@@vision821k4 I agree, I just finished both dlcs and the story, plus the new maps, are excellent. Persian dlc's story is kinda cringe but other than that it's good. I've spent 60 euros for both games plus all dlcs for both games, it's the same money I spend for that shit game called fifa every year. I know it's because those games are old and Microsoft always give them away on sale, but it's still something to take in consideration. Old Assassin's Creed were bugged as hell, but Origins and Odyssey, despite the giant maps, have very few bugs and every little detail matters; I like to follow npcs after i end my missions, and their actions are most of the time coherent with the storyline. Odyssey it's not an assassin's creed though, you can jump off a cliff and not get damage, or rush into forts without even caring about stealth and kill anyone in a 10 vs 1 with the right abilities. Those maps are breathtaking, when I first played Origins I was speechless, but as you say it's mostly sand, just like it's mostly mountains and sea in Odyssey. Both main stories are really good, I was kinda bored by Origins ending which was in my opinion rushed and stupid in some extent. Another thing I'd like to compare is the isu messages and enigmas... In origins it's excellent, I've discovered so much "unexplainable" stuff and I have those "abstract" thoughts as well. They tried to do the same things with Aletheia on Odyssey but it's not even close to Origins. Best games I've played since GTA 5 in 2013
@@nicolot4652 I read everything you said, and on my critique of origins, I was going to mention what you did though, that origins does have more stealthy game-play and is more fun in that respect. And for soccer games, I prefer Pes, lol. A game I know you would like would be Horizon New Dawn, I play on PC and there's no second game release, but the first was awesome. If that had been an Assassin's Creed release it could have fooled me, despite the machine part. Horizon New Dawn feels it was made by ubisoft, has towers, too lol
Every time I say origins is my favorite I can’t capture in words what I mean, you’ve just done that expertly and better than I could ever hope too. Thank you Luke
Just got this from game pass and playing for the first time. The RPG element and combat takes a little getting used to, but after a few googles it's making more sense now, but still much to learn. The exploration and missions are fun, and I've learned the hard way not take someone on who's level is higher than mine. Looks gorgeous in 4k.
SAME FOR ME!!!! I've been kinda disappointed in the lack of new next gen games, so I've been goin back playing older games or games I've never played. That's what's so dope about gamepass. I get to try games I never would've thought about buying & it's been a long time since I played a game that I was eager to get back to. The map is a little intimidating at 1st but I've figured out how to separate the quest & knowing what each icon does. The environment of Egypt is so dope
Ubisoft has some incredible talent. Their tech, engine, and artistry really is top knotch when they want it to be. And I’ve always had a guilty pleasure for Ubisoft titles and own most of them. If they could just get the corporate stink out of it and let their teams really make something, they could come back to the acclaim they once had. They’ve just felt like kind of an assembly line company in recent years where the games look and play great, but have an air of mediocrity and underused talent about them. Maybe we’re just getting jaded to the type of games they’re capable of, I mean any other studio would kill to have a steady string of games that look like their games and have as much content, and there is a lot of minute detail even in Valhalla that we just kind of take for granted from them now, but it’s lacking a feel of any passion. Valhalla is an incredible looking game full of content and detail. But it just reeks of averageness. Like there’s nothing special that makes the experience rise above. I don’t know, it’s hard to explain. The fact that they have cranked out 3 massive scale open world AC titles, 3 Far Cry games, all the associated dlc, and games like Rider’s Republic in like a 5 year period is kind of nuts. And maybe it is just that lack of focused production that makes the games feel passionless. But man, if there was ever a face of tech and talent that is being underutilized to feel underwhelming, it is Ubisoft right now. They have the capabilities to make an incredible game. They just need focus and maybe to just let their teams lean into creativity rather than cranking out the next game off the assembly line.
I feel Ubisoft has always been underrated. Like Watch Dogs 2 was a damn masterpiece IMO and I enjoyed it better than GTA V. The open world in WD2 was insane. A lot of their genes do have a similar gameplay loop but at least you know what your going to get with them. All the worlds they create are top draw. They have the man power and resources to really give a company like Rockstar a run for their money if they invested it into one game and really took their time.
@@zero59267 the historical accuracy and references really is top knotch. They even weave parables or beliefs and stories of the time into side quests that many players won’t realize unless they’re familiar with the time period. It’s absolutely incredible the worlds they create, and we really do kind of take Ubisoft for granted a lot of the time. No one else is making single player experiences on this scale unless you’re talking Elden Ring right now. And people really call it garbage or a cash grab. I don’t get it.
I recently just finished it, playing the newer assassins creed for the first because I was skeptical about this new direction the series was going. But the game was on sale for 8 dollars so I said sure my not, if it was bad It would not be much of a lost. I was absolutely blown away at how amazing this game from start to finish and is now like my 3rd or 4th favorite in the entire series.
After replaying it a few times, in terms of story, it's my favorite game in the series. Bayek is an amazing protagonist and the setting is freaking perfect.
it is one of the most visually beautiful games that exist, going by boat on the nile is the best with all those tirremes and boats, it feels alive, the best of the new trilogy
I just started playing it and was surprised how good the graphics are for a 2017 game. I'm just playing on a PS4 and its pretty damn good looking. These older games are super cheap too
One thing that sadened me was the Torch in Odyssey and Valhalla. It was sooooo good looking and effective at lighting when it was dark. In odyssey it was ok, but I noticed that it was less effective and the fire was not looking as good and in Valhalla it was a mess. It wasn't lighting properly in dark places, I would actually pump up the brightness when it was dark just to see, the it was looking bad.
When you think about it, it is not just a torch, it is a gameplay mechanic that was very useful and they made it useless through the games by making it worthless to use. When you downgrade something like that, you do it mainly for perfs. And when you play games where night is dark and your tool to see is worthless, half of your experience is very affected. If it is just a torch, then it wouldn't have been mentionned in videos like this one for being a positive in a game.
I agree with you completely, Sylvain. I think you're right that they tweaked it to reduce system load. On Odyssey with the shadows on the highest setting, whipping out the torch doesn't touch performance in the slightest. It generates a wimpy, kind of ugly flame effect and has minimal influence on shadows and lighting. In Origins, it's a completely different beast. The flame effect is a lot more complex and its influence on shadows and lighting is a lot more pronounced. It's beautiful to behold, but man is it a system-hogging feature. When I had this game set to 4k on my computer with shadows on the highest detail setting, pulling out the torch would cost me 20% to 30% of my frames per second. At 80% of 4k resolution with Shadows on the high setting, I'm okay. So yeah, I'm right there with you on this. :-P I can't fault Ubisoft Quebec for tweaking the torch in Odyssey to save on performance (especially given the amount of plant life to render in Greece compared to Egypt), but yeah... it was a shame to see it downgraded.
@@canaaknight2305 awwe someone else who actually like that game too I'm gald to see another brother like it too. Also main commenter yeah origins is honestly the better of the newer games in my opinion. I loved bayek and ayas relationship and their personalities and don't even get me started with the history and the world of ancient Egypt
Origins is I think my most favorite game - I love Skyrim and played it for over 1200 hours! Origins was just on another level - The world felt alive, and like you were really there in Egypt around that time in history - The story and character were compelling, the fighting was fun and engaging - Alexandria was VERY impressive the first time you see it in the game! 10/10 for me :)
They had the template to make Origins into the perfect trilogy, Aya should have been in the second game, her story, then the final series, where you can choose between Bayek and Aya.
This game and odyssey hold a special place in my heart forever. Getting open world settings in both those time periods is something I’ve ALWAYS wanted. Sure the games aren’t perfect but giving an open world to explore and play as a warrior from that time is just perfect for me
100% with you. Odyssey was my OG Covid lockdown game. I hadn’t been hot on the prologue, but when it opened up I was *enthralled*. I came around just now to complete Origins after completing Elden ring and am as happy. Valhalla is a bizarrely diff game that I legit dislike.
Your intro pretty much nailed why I absolutely adore Oddysey. It's so cool when games cater to these very specific fantasies and even better when they actually do them justice (even if they're not perfect). It's also cool to see someone else just nerding out over a similar thing. Video games are cool.
There's only one way I can describe this game - magical. It is NEARLY perfect game design with its simplistic and clean systems and addictive gameplay. And the highly emotional and deep story is nothing to scoff at, and it sometimes even brought tears to my eyes. Excellent video!
Me too, just this year, already have over 50 hours into it. One of those games I catch myself just slow walking into the sunset or looking at the views, watching the people. It's true, this game is a work of art.
Origins is one of the best AC games. Loved the detail and how immersive it is. The history ancient cities in Egypt, the story line with Bayek and his son and with Aya. What's even great is playing it on the Playstation 5 with high detailed graphics on screen. Ahhh! what a fantastic game. I am on my 2nd game restart on the playstation 5 as I got it recently new!!
My favorite as well. Main protagonist, support characters, story, smooth cutscenes, location, gameplay, decent parkour. The emotion in the acting is top notch
The only modern AC with replay-ability. I can’t say the same for the other 2. The quality of Origins is just fantastic. It’s well balanced, well rounded, with an incredible story and protagonist. The voice acting is real, it feels real. In the opening scene, when he screams, you feel his anger, his pain from losing his son. So great
Interestingly enough I played through Odyssey twice and I can count on one hand the number of RPGs I've played more than once. I think these games really come down to taste. They each have certain appeals that may overcome less appealing aspects for some but not for others.
Agreed on the replayability. I do think Odyssey has a good enough gameplay loop and build variety that could make it replayable, but it's way, way, way too long. One 200 hour playthrough was enough for me. Valhalla was so dull I barely slogged through it once, it wasn't even nearly as long as Odyssey, but if it was, I don't think I would have completed it even once. Origins really is remarkable by comparison.
A small hidden feature that I like about this game is the sounds. Bayak makes different sounds on different surfaces depending on what footwear he has. Also it affects player detection with enemies.
I think the most underrated part of Origins is that Bayek actually feels and acts like a person from the setting. When a citizen has a convern that there is a curse bc the gods are mad he goes “oh shit! That sounds bad, lets find a way to please the gods and lift the curse” whereas in Odyssey when a citizen says that Alexios/Kassandra usually scoffs
The best part about this game is I feel connected with my character I feel like this bring back the lost historical moments of Egyptian time love the craftsmanship and the mechanics of this game this really is the best 🪟 to the the past omg🥰 Great!!! Video 📹
I still play this game and I am so happy to see you come back to it. It’s not perfect but it’s one of the most detailed and beautiful open worlds I have played. A few houses in Alexandria have beautiful interiors. And the npc animations are amazingly detailed, in this one shop there was a npc using a pestle and mortar I watched the animation for 5 minutes straight before it looped.
Main story really decent for an AC game, Bayek's a good protagonist. Side quests for the most part are lackluster content fillers. The two DLCs are worth it if you like the main game. The open world is absolutely phenomenal, not just the best out of all AC games but one of the best of all time hand down. Graphic wise beats almost every game of 2021/2022. Gameplay felt fresh compared to before and is fun enough, though it lacks in diversity and the AI is dumb as usual. Overall, definitely one of the better open world games to which I return periodically just because the world is breathtaking.
Not true. Most of the side quests have their own little stories. Like the side quest “the patriarch”. Some can lost longer than some of the main story missions
@@zzodysseuszz Debatable, even the longer ones are basically completely pointless or have little to no meaning - got nothing on the Witcher etc. Loved Origins as a game and for its world, but the side content was lacking as in all the open-world AC games. Can't remember a single bit of side content which says it all really. Still, leagues ahead of Odyssey & Valhalla!
@@OnTheWax if you think about it the origins side quests were better than Valhallas and odyssey’s purely based off the fact you’d just had bayek as a main character not a male and female. 2 characters means twice the amount of voice lines ect. But yeah it’s not like origins is on the witcher 3’s level of detail for side quests.
The dead body thing helped me spread a plague my first playthrough, you can poison bodies and when they're picked up the npc carrying the corpse begins taking damage, this continues to spread throughout an enemy camp essentially biowarfare in ancient egypt
This game is a masterpiece. I loved Bayak's story, the gigantic and beatiful world they created, and the fascinating discovery tour mode. It's probably my favourite also.
@@MidRankedDeity why not, he played the game thinking that Egypt today would look like the romantic setting that it is in the game... only to really be a scuffy rundown tourist trap....
Honestly this reminded me how good this game actually was. I really enjoyed the stealth, gameplay and story, but (due to being a completionist) tried to get every little treasure and map item-which really burned me out. In retrospect, I probably should’ve just stuck to stealthing encampment and adnvsncing the story instead.
AC Origins fell into my top 5 favorite games back when it came out and I still pop it in every few months, play for weeks straight and get totally immersed into this wonderfully magical Egyptian setting. Very iconic game.
Preach, Luke! I've had the same experience as you in both Origins and Odyssey. The way they bring those places and moments in time back to life is just unparalleled and that's the reason I love this series in spite of all the problems the games have.
Well said! I fell in love with the AC franchise because of my deep love of history and the opportunity it created to go back in time and explore these beautiful times and places.
What I loved about origins was the setting, I believe that the Ptolomeic era is great about showing the complex socio-political environment of different cultures such as the Roman, thus making the game more interesting and diverse while being a period not usually represented in mainstream media
I love that somebody else can appreciate the subtle details & care that went into making this game. I remember when it first came out it was the most stunning, breathtaking game I’d ever played.
Just wanted to comment about how on point this made me feel. I was always an ancient Egypt nerd. Love the lore and mythos. This game was my dream come true as well. This game is probably one of my favorite games, period. It's so amazing.
As someone who also grew up in an evangelical heavy family in the south, getting to see historical bits in Origins about the other biblical civilizations and Caesar was what really drew me to the game.
This game deserves more than it receives.. I’ll never know why they went backwards after this.. sometimes too much is not a good thing Edit: Discovery Tours also deserve all the praise in the world, and gives the game a soul!! I even made a video going through all the discovery Tour of AC Origins (Egypt)
I havent played this one. I 100% Oddysey with all DLC. I have never ever played a game for that much time. It's just fantastci, so I don't know how that game could be a downgrade comapred to Origins.
I am probably one of the few players that actually ADORE Odyssey. The same way you were a fanboy of Ancient Egypt as a kid, I was a fanboy of Ancient Greece. I used to read books of greek myths in the library of my school, learning almost every detail of the gods and goddesses of that culture. It became a dream come true to finally experience all that culture in a videogame (It was actually my first AC game, so I never knew of the stealth system of earlier games). Even when I understand why people think the game is a treason to AC original feeling, I just like to look it as a door to enter into a fascinating world.
The map was perfect(and beautiful) The story and missions were so shit that it ruined the whole game for me. Compare the missions (also with the cutscenes) to Unity for example) that one did the missions SOOO much better.
@@jortepap I actually really enjoyed the story. Hopefully you played as Kassandra bc Alexios sucked as a main character. I never play as a female lead when I have a choice to play as male, but I made an exception for odyssey. Male Eivor in Valhalla was much better done though so I stayed male for that game.

This game is still new to me, its hard for me to believe its been out for almost 5 years now. The coolest open world games on earth to me are games that allow you to see super detailed representations of places you want to see. Like it really is a dream come true to have a game where you can literally explore all of ancient egypt. Same for Odessey and ancient greece. I cant wait to see what other places we get to explore in other games in the future
This game is not just the best assassins creed game...is one of the best open world games in general. The immersive of the world and the physic of the game is just mind blowing.
Origins is also my favourite title in the series! I was really enthralled by the Egyptian setting, it really triggered my imagination visiting this civilisation so far away from mine. Those irrigation systems! Also I really like Bayek. What depresses me is that Valhalla is by far Ubi's biggest money maker, which they might decide that the details found in Origin aren't worth the time and investment for future titles. I really hope this isn't the lesson they take from it!
I think it's only their biggest because it was the first ac on next gen consoles, ppl just wanted a new shiny game on their new consoles and valhalla was one of the very few that was out at the time.
@@KSSBG No Valhalla is better, it just takes longer and moments spread out. Do you remember Ivarr betraying eivor, fighting the king getting lit on fire, rising up like a demon and torturing/executing the king with a blood eagle?
@@KSSBG i see, I'm sorry I enjoyed origins it was super exciting I worked at best buy when it came out and it played all day on the TV's, my comment was heavily influenced on the OP of this thread and Luke Stephens especially. I remember being a kid engrossing myself in my uncle's PC with Encarta games, exploring ancient monuments and reading about their history and the like. This game brought that same feeling I had as a kid in full form, making this game one of the most memorable experiences of my life.
It was the best one of the recent batch for sure . It still gives me a bitter taste due to it being the game that introduced all these boring RPG mechanics into one of my fav franchises.
Yeah it really should have stayed the same and offered a 15 hour story with a small map with all interconnected roofs and sneaking around in crowds "assassin's creeding" - don't bother exploring the history before, don't bother advancing the modern day story, or anything else, just lots of whinging about not being 'assassins' anymore, even though you're murdering people throughout over and over any way you want, ignore that.
I too am a big fan of Ancient Egypt. That’s one reason I was so interested in this game. Anubis is my favorite Egyptian god. And fighting him in origins, getting the whole anubis gear was so worthwhile. ❤️
Such a shame bayek or aya didnt get another game, origins was a masterpiece, perfect setting, story, protagonist i love how hes not a hero just someone fueled by hate
I must say, having the privilege of playing this through game pass, spending countess hours wandering around exploring Ancient Egypt really makes me happy. Being a huge nerd in all things ancient egypt this game to me honestly surreal. Yes, the game has some issues but I just cant get over how immersive this game actually is. Boot it up and jump in and before I know its 4 a.m I will spend the rest of days wandering the sands.
This just dropped on gamepass... 8 hours in, and loving it so damn much. I haven't played an AC game since brother hood from way back in the 360 days. What an awesome upgrade.
Same! I haven’t played since Unity though. I’m having a lot of fun taking my time with this game. I want to try Odyssey next and eventually Valhalla but it seems the consensus is the games aren’t as good as Origins.
I 100% this game long before the 60 FPS update and now that I play it in 60, I still question myself how I managed to do it. This game is an absolute gem. out of the 3 RPG-esque AC's, Origins takes the top spot for me. Without a doubt.
I played it in the first half of 2019 (the good one) and this game has stayed deep in my mind. The way to Alexandria that lasted 12 hours through Quatara Depression is something I will never forget and it comes back in my dreams often.
I love replaying some of these old games because they're great and to see how well they run on modern hardware. I could just about get 4k 60fps on my 3060ti. This really is a great game to replay in 2022.
Got a question. Does your game stutter? I got a 3060/5600h laptop and both origins and odyssey hit heavy fps spikes with the cpu hitting 100%, and it happened to me on multiple 6 core machines
@@raduneagu922 I've had a lot of issues with AC games stuttering tbh. Odyssey and Valhalla stutter for me periodically especially when I have my m&k and controller plugged in at the same time. So with origins I've had a few intermittent stuttering issue but mostly with Odyssey and Valhalla.

Seriously Luke you nailed this one. Origins is hands down the best AC that came out after their break. From the gameplay to the story to the environment. It was a well rounded experience and I’ve tried playing Valhalla 4 times and it is a damn chore lol
Origins will always hold a special place in my heart. The story of Bayek, Aya and Khemu, the backdrop of Ptolemaic Egypt and the fact that the UBI rpg formula (TM) hadn't been done to death in 2017 all make this my all-time favourite AC. Black Flag's close, though.
I love these games. I remember the 3rd one in Colonial America just blew me away and it was so awesome to see what the cities looked and felt like to live in during that period. Been playing Origins the past couple weeks and it's gotten me all into Egyptology now. It's incredible to think how those Pyramids and stuff were already in ruins and were ancient by the time of Cleopatra. I'm gonna play Odessey next. I hope they do one based in feudal Japan one day and you can be a Samurai or a Ninja or something one day.
I've been wanting to play this one for some time now. I adore Valhalla and Odyssey and heard this one has a good story and fun world to explore. I look forward to trying it myself especially with the new patch!
Agreed. This game should have got way more attention when it was released. They absolutely nailed the setting. There’s just something about free roaming ancient Egypt. It’s probably my favourite open world game ever tbh.
I really enjoyed the walking animations and the camera movement in this game and the whole atmosphere in general. With all respect to the next games, it wasn't the same experience.
Like you my son (and I) has loved Ancient Egypt since he was 8. We too were unable to afford a trip to the pyramids. Lol! 😂 After he got AC Origins he recommended I get it too because it was worth it just for the tours. It’s amazing! Though I typically only play games like Civ and Europa Universalis I have been playing the game and enjoying it. I’m 57 btw. Besides taking out enemies I love hunting hippos and crocodiles, boating and swimming underwater.I can only play when I don’t have to get up the next day because I end up playing all night!
Origins was the last AC where I had the feeling that I was actually there and that this was a real/authentic place. This was lost (at least for me) in Odyssey and Valhalla. With that being said, it was the best ac of this generation for me. (Although I didn't like the combat).
@@themarchinggoblin8294 Valhalla is a drag. Ngl but i had more fun playing odyssey than Valhalla. I haven't even finished Valhalla, last time i played was when i rescued Sigurd and decided to drop it.
Origins is my favorite AC game as well! Black Flag is a close second. The team that made these games is just so damn talented. Ancient Egypt is such an amazing setting! I've always been fascinated with the history like you.
The atmosphere in this game is something you experience only once in a lifetime. I through RDR2 had the best setting and atmosphere but after playing AC Origin it easily became my favorite game . It just makes you feel almost as you were there at that time. It's just amazing.
I disagree about origins atmosphere being as good as rdr2, just because of how insanely interactive the world is in that game. Literally everything reacts to multiple different scenarios accurately. Did you know arrows can split other arrows and will wobble more or less based on the surface they hit? Also, if you shoot things like rock or brick the arrows just bounce right off
@@tonyflamingosucks6590 You are talking about the details in RDR2 and no doubts it's the most detailed game ever created. It's a masterpiece and I played it like 3 times and couldn't get enough of it. Now what I meant in my comment is the atmosphere AC Origins gives you so you would feel like you are really living these moments. From sound design and world creation to the really well designed NPCs routines. For me this is the thing I was searching for. A game that really lets you dive in its atmosphere and experience things as if you were there at that time. I even didn't rush the game because I don't want this thing to end. Been playing it for like 4 months and I am not even half way through. At the end of the day that's my opinion and ofc not everybody would feel that way ;)
@@Bulker26 I’m really glad you enjoy it so much man, it’s been a few years since I’ve played it so I’m saving up the money to buy it right now. Ive been having that exact same experience with rdr2 again lately too, except it’s only been 3 months for me 😂
@@tonyflamingosucks6590 Glad to hear that 😁. And the thing is I am very invested in ancient Egyptian culture and that's why this game just hit that itch for me that has been just sitting there in my soul for years. And hey if you play on xbox or pc it's on gamepass right now. If want to own it I think there are some cheap keys you can buy from enba or other sites for like 6€ or 8$. No need to pay 60$ 😉
Origins and Odyssey are SO MUCH better than Valhalla that it hurts. I remember shooting an arrow to an enemy....and the arrow got a fire effect by flying through a fireplace midway....I was absolutly stunned!!! Didn't knew this was a thing.
Just started playing this on the Xbox series S. So far I am really impressed overall. Gonna be playing this one for a while no doubt!! Love your channel btw
Thanks, another awesome review This was my first game that I played all the way through as a newby in the video game arena. I was a virgin gamer before this and this game changed my life. I as well have always liked Egypt and definitely loved the vibe in this game. How exciting to see others enjoy it just as much as me. Since I’ve played black flag and odyssey. Which were super gorgeous. But origins will always be my favorite You do an amazing job as a commentator. Keep it up 👍
I totally relate to your points and fascination with ancient Egypt! And an Old Kingdom game definitely would've been incredible but Origins captivated me nonetheless.
A few months ago, I went back & started it over & finally finished it. My favorite from the series. Just amazing story & gameplay. Bayek rules so much. And I just loved all of the historical aspects of ancient Egypt.
I just hit the 100-hour mark on Origins (with 100% completion) and am still going back for more. Such an incredible game. I also loved the DLC because I was hoping some mythological elements would be tossed in (beyond the Animus glitches).
your interest for ancient egypt is the exact same reason why i love valhalla and odyssey so much becasue i have always loved greek and norse mythology so much since i was little
I loved this game until it got boring with repetitive gameplay and levelling up in stupid side quests so you can continue with the main story. This game is the very reason why I didn't get Odyssey and Valhalla. It's a shame because the Egypt setting is amazing.
honestly there was only one point in the game where you had to do side missions to level to the main story and it was only up by like 3 levels. its not as bad as valhalla and odyssey where one story mission to the next one could go up by like 10 whole levels
Odyssey is worst. When I played assassins creed games used to like beating the game then exploring map afterwards. Odyssey think I barely beat a quarter of the main mission yet I been all over the map.
Bro, if Ubisoft would start treating their games with passion again, they would have no competition. I mean, they got the best franchises to do so for sure..
I agree.. feels like after 2018.. they started caring less about their games.. oddysey, breakpoint, division 2, far cry 5 and 6… these games got no soul
@@VaulPianney If you play the first Division game, slow and immersed, it will blow.your.mind, especially if you haven’t played that yet! Can’t believe they decided to make shallow games like FC6, Valhalla, WD Legion..
@@VaulPianney After 2018? More like after 2010. Far Cry 3 was their last great game with original ideas. They've been crapping out the same FC3 formula since then. They were practically untouchable in the 2000's. OG Ghost Recon, Advanced Warfighter series, Vegas series, early Assassin Creed's, Splinter Cell especially Chaos Theory, Beyond Good and Evil. I liked the Division 1 and 2, but they weren't amazing and Massive Entertainment developed those they were only published by Ubi. Edit: On further inspection Massive is part of Ubi, but still doesn't change my opinion.
TLDR: First paragraph cons, second pros, lastly Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I can see where you’re coming from, but for me this game is tainted by repetitive gameplay and boring objectives. You kinda have to like Egypt or be interested in the setting to play this game. I like Egypt, but a whole game in its setting is a bit much for me. Especially with how much content it has. But I don’t think its the setting that’s the issue. The gameplay just isn’t good imo. The quests that don’t have cutscenes feel bland as Bayek just talks to an NPC with his arms crossed while the only thing you can do is swivel the camera around. Hearing the same few pieces of dialogue from NPCs gets annoying and the game just gets extremely repetitive. Now this isn’t a new thing for the franchise, it’s been in the series since the beginning, but here I felt it. The burnout. I’ve had to drop this game multiple times and come back months later because the gameplay just isn’t as interesting as every title before it. It doesn’t reward you for stealth or at least it doesn’t punish you for not being stealthy like Unity. Bayek feels like he’s floating while running, climbing, or dodging. He doesn’t have a weight to him that every protagonist before him had. Maybe it’s because you don’t hold a trigger to run anymore. He goes full speed by just moving the joystick forward. The combat is decent, but it just feels like the sword is the best weapon so why use any other one. It also doesn’t have a flow to it like Unity and Syndicate’s combat or the difficulty of the 1-Revelations era, or the exhilaration of 3, 4, and Rogue’s combat. Now storywise and visually this game is a masterclass I’ll say that about it. The music by Sarah Schachner really kept me going and motivated me during the burnouts, and Bayek himself is pretty likable. He’s serious when he needs to be and comedic when appropriate and his story as a family man is beautiful. Aya is the “real” assassin of the game so it’s cool we got to play as her for some bits. The world itself is beautiful. There’s so so many NPCs going about they’re life and helping each other out. Y’know maybe I will like or even love Odyssey more as you can actually make choices in the game like an RPG, and two Greece is just more interesting and varied to me. I’m just worried it seems to be just as repetitive and massive as Origins. I’ll probably get burnt out on it just the same.
Spot on! Played only valhalla before. Same repetitive gameplay, bland story and character mimic. Everything feels like the same damn chore over and over again.
Origins got me through Lockdown and it is far, above and beyond my favourite A C game, hell it’s one of my fave games in general. That end game when you discover aliens in the desert and acquire that alien bio suit, damn!
The fact that we share a similar story! I’ve always been interested in ancient Egypt as a kid too! I always remember having a dream about me being in a game exploring Egypt! I was so excited when origins came out
I love this game. Ancient Egypt has always fascinated me and this is probably as close as I'll ever be able to get lol. P.S. Assassins Creed Syndicate is awesome as well. The backdrop, story, costumes and gameplay are excellent for an earlier title.
Wow, It was the same with me, I've always loved history in general, but Ancient Egypt is my cup of tea and being a history buff I feel in love with the AC Franchise 15 years ago, when they announced AC Origins I went crazy! Finally an AC game in Egypt, still my favorite AC game. Then in 2019 I finally went to Egypt myself, loved every second of the trip and I'm already planning to go back there.
This is basically the video that made me buy it and sink a hundred hours into it, and it is one of my favorite games of all time, almost on the level of RDR2. I would probably have over 300 hours on it if it was properly optimized for PC. Sadly even my $1000 PC can barely run in with 45 fps and tons of stutters. Extra points for the Hidden Ones DLC, best DLC in gaming history.
@@sploit777 i know but i want AC to take place during the height of the roman empire say during Trajan's/Hadrian's reign or during the last good emperor's reign under Majorian.
For me is the narrative, and the direction, yes the setting is beautiful, graphics, attention to detail, but the game has good writing and the story is good, characters are amazing and so the voice acting. Side quests are side quests stories, cinematics are really well directed. F**ck, I miss what Origins made me feel on that time, Valhalla was so empty, and hollow.
I’m so glad and actually relieved you picked origins. I could not agree more. I had the same bummed out feeling playing it when thinking about the state of games today. Those little details like NPC schedules makes all the difference. One time, two soldiers jumped into a canal searching for me and they kept swimming like it was a lazy river. It’s all about moments and this game makes that possible unlike other titles.
I've only recently started playing these games for the first time, the covers never stood out to me enough when I was younger to justify getting them. I have been absolutely mind blow by literally every game so far, purely from a historic aspect like you mentioned, before playing AC3, I wouldn't have cared at all about colonial houses and buildings in colonial America, now I do. I never really had any interest in visiting Paris or London, now I do. I couldn't have imagined the construction possible by the Egyptians and Greeks but I am completely and entirely fascinated for nearly a hundred hours in each game so far.
I absolutely love this game. I prefer Odyssey for a couple of reasons including a better map and it feels more fleshed out. But this game is just wow as well. Love it. One thing to note is that this game ran like a dream with my 980ti, with my 2070 Super and with my 1050ti in my laptop. And even with lower details, it looks very good.
I'm playing it on a 6800xt at native 4k for the first time the game looks really nice. There are some things that date the game a bit, mainly some of the facial animations, some textures and the hair but it's overall gorgeous. I find myself stopping to take the scenes in quite frequently and take a screenshot or two for the memories. I'll have to check out Odyssey too at some point in the future.

Npc routines are amazing in this game, but the one that blew me away, it was a funeral procession going across to a town, I followed them and when they arrived the were performing a ceremony, just awesome.
That’s incredible
And to think that 99% of players won’t even notice it. So much detail makes this game feel so alive!!!

Which is unfortunate.
yeah, I mean, Layla found them buried together but she was in Rome and he remained in Egypt
Bayek deserved a sequel. Such a badass

Really hunted becomes hunter moment for me that was never properly redone in the later games.
Just hiding/ avoiding them was a really great feeling
In my playthrough I never came even close to crossing paths with one of them. I'd see them wandering around the world but never anywhere near me. It wasn't until the endgame that I decided to go out of my way to hunt one of them down and by that point it wasn't much of a challenge.

Odyssey is just very long, but I think it's an amazing game provided you play with Kassandra and not her boring ass brother.
I have 100 Odyssey hours and I didn't finish it yet. And the game itself, plus the dlcs, is as good as Origins
If that had been an Assassin's Creed release it could have fooled me, despite the machine part. Horizon New Dawn feels it was made by ubisoft, has towers, too lol

Ubisoft developers have insane potential. Give them 3 years to work on a single game and it will be a masterpiece guaranteed
Perfectly said

@@zero59267 the historical accuracy and references really is top knotch. They even weave parables or beliefs and stories of the time into side quests that many players won’t realize unless they’re familiar with the time period.
Bro it’s just a torch
When you think about it, it is not just a torch, it is a gameplay mechanic that was very useful and they made it useless through the games by making it worthless to use. When you downgrade something like that, you do it mainly for perfs. And when you play games where night is dark and your tool to see is worthless, half of your experience is very affected. If it is just a torch, then it wouldn't have been mentionned in videos like this one for being a positive in a game.
@@sylskaterChannel Did Ray Tracing ruin the Torch, reddit?
@@carnsoaks1 valhalla doesn’t have ray tracing

Odyssey is up there too mate
Idk Origins is amazing , but the story basically B lines. Oddysey at least has your choices matter more. I'd say both are amazing for different itches
@@toowingless9473 If you have choices, your character becomes a non-character.
@@BJJISTHEGAYPARTOFMMA valhalla mini quests are better than quests of origin.

Very iconic game.
what are the other 4
thanks man! Platinumed this game way back in 2018 and planning to get back this week thanks to this video and now, to your comment!
I adore riding my horse around the desolated desert areas or standing on a cliff looking out a sea of sand. It's oddly peaceful.
Playing it as I write this lol Game is still soo good
Preach, Luke!
Well put my friend!
oh yeh this game isnt set in ancient egypty , but the tumbs are from ancient egypty
The cultural diversity really helps this game continue to feel fresh. The areas are different, with different architecture.
I love that somebody else can appreciate the subtle details & care that went into making this game. I remember when it first came out it was the most stunning, breathtaking game I’d ever played.
This still gives OLD AC VIBES better than than both odessy and valhalla eventhough I like Valhalla, Odessy was a big disappointment for me
Just wanted to comment about how on point this made me feel.
The recent 60fps update was really got me back into the game. It's a great game, but it was so laggy with 30fps. Now it's really smooth
This game deserves more than it receives..
I’ll never know why they went backwards after this.. sometimes too much is not a good thing
Edit: Discovery Tours also deserve all the praise in the world, and gives the game a soul!!
The map was perfect(and beautiful)
The story and missions were so shit that it ruined the whole game for me.
@@jortepap And the side content was so deadbeat and the world was copy masted most of the time. The fact that it fundamentally breaks lore I swear...

@Razgriz085 I felt the same way. I loved the setting and didn’t hate the story but I couldn’t keep playing because the gameplay threw me off
I too am a big fan of Ancient Egypt. That’s one reason I was so interested in this game. Anubis is my favorite Egyptian god. And fighting him in origins, getting the whole anubis gear was so worthwhile. ❤️

Origins was the last AC where I had the feeling that I was actually there and that this was a real/authentic place. This was lost (at least for me) in Odyssey and Valhalla.

Origins was so damn awesome! I loved it so much.
The missions/side missions are really fun to do as I’ve completed all the missions and I’ve completed all the fast travel locations
This is basically the video that made me buy it and sink a hundred hours into it, and it is one of my favorite games of all time, almost on the level of RDR2.
Odyssey is horrible, Origins is so better in many ways
@@shrekrealista5045 why do you say that? I think both games are similar but Odyssey is more fleshed out and it has a?better map.
@@Heldermaior if u r an ac fan odyssey is a horrific shit show. Plus I didn’t like the protagonists as much as Bayek.
@@nooneknows19 i think Cassandra knocked it out of the park. The VA alone was off the charts. Again, imho.
