from what i remember, there's a hotswap frame of the gk61 that supports non-optical mechanical switches (e.g. kailh box jades, novelkeys creams, zealios v2s, you name it) that you can get off of banggood or aliexpress for less than $100
I like this keyboard ALOT, especially the version with separate arrow keys (GK64). I really want to get the diy kit version and build it myself as a project. Great review as always
I’m getting the geek custom gk61 with the aluminum case and lube some Kailh speed slivers and put those in. Vortex Keycaps, hope it turns out nice. Building hopefully is a rewarding process.
but still personally i like the huntsman mini with red switches, it has better software and yeh ik it is almost double the price but id rather get that the=an the apex pro
I've had the keyboard since the end of 2019 and I got the yellow switches early this year, I would wonder if it would compete with the more expensive keyboards since they're optical as well, its kinda cool and refreshing seeing people realize that you can make something better with less, great vid btw.
Do u still use this keyboard if not what do you recommend now. I’m looking for a 60%-TKL. Looking for really good actuation not as pricy as something like the apex pro
if you have problems with the spacebar, you can always lube it (NOT A JOKE) get some dielectric grease (permatex is good) and get some on a toothpick and stick it into the stabilizer, itll help a lot.
You can go to your local hardware store and get something like dielectric grease. Then, open up keyboard and because it’s hot swappable, you can actually take out the stabilizers and lube the wires. If you’re a big boy, you can also get plate mount gmks or real cherry ones for replacement. With this, your stabs will sound better than any “gaming” keyboards
Yous should buy the gk61 from banggood it is like 62 bucks for the yellow switches and the case is thicker and nicer IMO its not as curvy its more like straight it looks really nice
Honestly, it being faster is probably just a placebo for most people. Knowing the average Fortnite player (kids that just mash keys with no finesse), you're probably gonna be pressing down with much greater than 45g of force, and therefore 35g of force as well. Anyway, I'm sure that you could probably switch out the springs on the omnipoint switches to be just as light if not lighter than the gateron optical switches.
your supposed to clip and lube mod the space bar. or you can change it out for a costar stabilizer. It's still not as smooth as razer going down. So i'm like meh.
Have a Apex pro tkl and getting all white and it's either Razer mercy white pbt keycaps on Apex pro TKL or this in white any thoughts I was it louder one and I prefer 60% and I normally bottom out my keys all the way
If I was in the market to get a good pre-built gaming keyboard I'd go with the Matrix X Clix keyboard(I'd suggest reviewing that since the name alone will bring views) . My keyboard is the Keychron K8 aluminum hot swap board and I put cream switches in it. My hati S will be here in 3 days. Hyped af about that.
@@user-lb8cq1eu2j it does use the gk61 as a base, but it has gateron switches and doubleshot pbt keycaps. His gk61 has trash abs keycaps and the optical switches sound horrible. Ive had a ducky before so thats why I didn't mention them as my pick(also ducky keyboard reviews are all over RUclips already)
Uh no...the huntsman mini has everything beat in terms of functionality except for the speed, and there is only a 5 gram difference. And at least for me they bumped up the price to 85 bucks for the optical yellows specifically, so youre paying 45 more for a much more solid keyboard in my opinion. Remember, its a GK61. Its budget. Compared to some of the more expensive keyboards the quality is really bad. The Huntsman Mini is eay better than the GK61, it aint opinion, its facts. Better software, build quality, keycaps, etc. The only way the GK61 is faster is because it is 5 grams lighter which is not a big deal at all.
@@blujayplays1 but you're forgetting that the GK61 is highly customizable in terms of switch feel and stabilizer quality. Remember, just because you're paying less doesn't NECESSARILY mean you're paying for lower quality. Gateron switches are regarded as one of the smoothest stock switches on the market. Once you take out that contact leaf for the optical switches, it got way smoother, much smoother than the stock Huntsman opticals (imo but it seems to be the enthusiast consensus). The keycaps are ABS and can shine over time unlike the huntsman, but GMK sets are also ABS despite being $100+, so theres not much of a comparison there. Not only that, but it also makes lubing switches and stabilizers MUCH easier given the fact that its hotswappable. Buy some tribosys and lube each switch + slap some dielectric grease on the stabilizers (or just replace them altogether) and you essentially have an enthusiast sounding keyboard at around $65~ depending on where you get your materials, while the Huntsman mini is way harder to improve in terms of quality and sound simply due to the nature of the keyboard (given the enthusiast standards). This is what the original comment meant.
JJ the gk61 is $70 on HK gaming’s website hk-gaming.com/products/gk61-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-optical-switches?variant=32839843709027). However, the comment wasn’t about how both boards compare at stock it was about how you can improve the gk61 to be better than a stock huntsman mini for either less than or around the same price. And for the tools and the items needed to mod the board will run you around $50-60 max which is a bit less or the same price as a huntsman mini and you get better quality board.
People don’t understand how many optical 60% or 65% boards are out there that support hotswap optical switches. And the reason why these optical switches feel similar to the omnipoint switches is because they are both manufactured by gateron, who make literally the smoothest switches
This is my main. RGB is pretty bad, the color mixing is very poorly executed. This problem only really becomes apparent when using the software to set up static looks, which is the worst thing about this keyboard. The software is janky and not very user friendly, assuming you can find it online at all. Once you fight your way through that laborious process tho, you can save the layout to the board and never worry again. Keyboard is awesome aside from those 2 things imo. Good review.
Just build your own keeb switch speed is so minimal the only deley is when the your action is getting sent back to you the “speed switch” is basically a placebo effect because with any tactile switch you can get the action before you bottom out anyway so ya the stabs are ass the switch is average the case is bad bored is cheap and the plate is not fully in place just build your own
Id say depends what game your playing and do you want quality over speed, as the gk61 is pretty fast, but huntsman mini is the way to go as the gk61 now costs up to 100 for optical yellow when you could spend the exact same sometimes for 90 on the hunstman mini, id say get the huntsman as its still very fast and loads of pros use it, chose wisely (ps soz for the essay😭)
