The 2012 model is a different beast altogether, better built, more environmentally sound, and yes I'd agree, better looking in some respects, but to dismiss the retro Beetle it replaced as an awful or terrible car is to do it an injustice, it was, and remains one of the most recognizable pieces of automotive design at a time when the world went retro in a big way, paving the way for the likes of the Fiat 500 and BMW Mini etc: ......Mark Anthony, August 2020.
Good film. I fancy one of these myself. As I have no intention of buying an electric car or a petrol hybrid, a 2012-on Beetle diesel would suit me to drive on until Armageddon. They have a style which will look quite good in any decade. Alongside my boiler suit, steel toe caps and oily string vest.
In 1978 the last VW classic Beetle made in Germany came out, but the car was still available and made in Brasil and Mexico. Brasil stops its production in the 90s and in Mexico they stoped it in 2003. In Mexico we love the car so much ❤️

I think it’s a more stylish car than the previous “new” beetle and certainly the golf. Golfs are ten a penny on the roads these days. For me forsake some practically and take this model with it’s rarity and style at a bargain price. Could even be a future classic!!!. Nice review and keep up the good work. Malibu Barbie vs Manchester Barry! So hilarious 😂 Anyway, I’m in the US and I have a 2017 Beetle Dune with the 1.8T engine and it’s quite peppy. Not race car fast of course but not bad even by American standards. By that I mean people in America are more used to higher HP.
tbh if you want a beetle model of this beetle your best keeping the 1.2 turbo engine as the 1.4 is both turbo'd and supercharged and if it goes pop it costs a fortune and general maintenance is a fortune too
I've been watching your reviews for a while now. They're great, relaxed and thorough. I've subscribed from the 1st one i watched because I liked the format and your attitude, as you seem like a nice chap to grab a beer with. Keep it up! And also, could you ever do an Alfa Giulietta? Thx and have a great day!
Liking your reviews recently. Its nice to see some non-politically correct jokes , when everything on TV + social media is going all 'cancel culture'. Keep up the great work.
Not sure if anyone’s already asked but have you considered putting outtakes on (if you make any mistakes that is)? I’d be spewing words out in the wrong order and missing gears all over I imagine. Always good videos, great work. 👍🏼
I find getting alignment/ tracking being done successfully very very rare in my area atleast. Only one place have been able to do it to an acceptable level.
At least they didn’t abandon the floor mounted gas pedal like Audi... I can’t be the only one who strongly prefers them over hanging pedals... Just feels like you’re driving something more posh 😀
The beetle I like is the previous model in the RSI version, I have to have agree with Matt as in I like retro when it’s done tastefully. Anyway Matt you should be doing stand up and specialise in one liners.
Well, in fairness, the Original Beetle design had only two features that a certain very short, and very unfunny man who wore an Oliver Hardy moustache; came up with that were incorporated into the vehicle's final design. People forget, he was a car guy. Obsessed with automobiles. Sad that folks think *he* designed the car entirely himself. And literally the only _good_ idea he ever came up with was the concept of a car that the masses could afford to buy. Just that one idea! That one and only noble idea. The 3rd Gen. Beetle is just a nice-looking car. Wouldn't mind renting one during the times my car is in the shop for a few days. Though far from pragmatic to live with, on a daily basis.
The new beetle , had such a long dashboard , so hard to see over the bonnet ! Every 1999 bottle onwards that I see in the block has the engine check light on ! Everyone lol
even in the Passat Bluetooth is rubbish I have to play something from the phone speaker first so I can use Bluetooth media which doesn't make any sense (just an extra stupid step), and that's if you are lucky enough to connect your phone to the car
Good video, thank you. I also think this Beatle is much, much better than the "Malibu Barbi" version. I think if I were in the market for a small VW car I'd get a Golf.
Top review - as usual. We got a little of everything in this one though, political satire, history, and the evergreen, "blame the dog" for the fart! And somewhere in there we also learnt that the mk 3 Beetle isn't too bad. Job well done!

I've subscribed from the 1st one i watched because I liked the format and your attitude, as you seem like a nice chap to grab a beer with. Keep it up! And also, could you ever do an Alfa Giulietta? Thx and have a great day!
Good video. I love that you review left -field choices.
Liking your reviews recently. Its nice to see some non-politically correct jokes , when everything on TV + social media is going all 'cancel culture'. Keep up the great work.
Haha thanks. I don’t try to be controversial but I’m just tired of the whole Woke and cancel culture
I actually quite like the Mk3 version, with the roof chopped-style look and chrome wheel trim rings
Me too. The best one yet anyway
Rick " Whats going on with those jeans " Is the trade that bad
Nah he fineee
LOL he is completely spot on with the Gen 1 New Beetle, two types of buyer, rich housewives or rich school girls!
Haha thats what I noticed
I think the mk1 is just fantastic and it has gracefully aged as the new generations evolved
Not sure if anyone’s already asked but have you considered putting outtakes on (if you make any mistakes that is)? I’d be spewing words out in the wrong order and missing gears all over I imagine. Always good videos, great work. 👍🏼
I could do but they might be a bit to sweary...
I can definitely see VW make an electric Beetle based on the MEB platform. They can even make it rear engined, just like the VW ID.3.
Yes that’s right. That could happen to rival hondas new ev thing
Love the inside. Hate the outside. I have an 04 one. Love it.
I find getting alignment/ tracking being done successfully very very rare in my area atleast. Only one place have been able to do it to an acceptable level.
I know what you mean. Its never quite right
At least they didn’t abandon the floor mounted gas pedal like Audi...
I can’t be the only one who strongly prefers them over hanging pedals... Just feels like you’re driving something more posh 😀
This is a Beetle that I would buy. perhaps It uni be my new car when I get rid of my Toyota Urban Cruiser D4D. such a beautifully made Beetle.
The Urban Cruiser is quite quirky - good choice
Great video as always , especially love the co-pilot .
Thanks a lot!
The beetle I like is the previous model in the RSI version, I have to have agree with Matt as in I like retro when it’s done tastefully. Anyway Matt you should be doing stand up and specialise in one liners.
Haha thanks. Yeah I like retro too
I would love a beetle in this spec with the 5 cylinder naturally aspirated engine
Did they make one?
@@visionist7 yes look it up, it had 170ish horsepower
@@bokichko that sounds pretty decent. Bet they're rare
Not for me but I did like the Herbie movies😂😂😂
More Kiki please! Another great review thanks
Great video (as always)!! I think its a shame VW got rid of the Beetle and Scirocco :(
Yeah me too
Car makers slowly conforming too dull
@@johnwalton9009 True, mind your the T-Roc convertible came out of no where!
The new beetle , had such a long dashboard , so hard to see over the bonnet ! Every 1999 bottle onwards that I see in the block has the engine check light on ! Everyone lol
That’s right. Common sight
even in the Passat Bluetooth is rubbish I have to play something from the phone speaker first so I can use Bluetooth media which doesn't make any sense (just an extra stupid step), and that's if you are lucky enough to connect your phone to the car
Good video, thank you. I also think this Beatle is much, much better than the "Malibu Barbi" version. I think if I were in the market for a small VW car I'd get a Golf.
I think we'll see a VW Beetle again, probably an EV to compliment the new EV Camper that's meant to be coming soon.
It's so funny how you all drive on the left side of the road.
It warps my brain. 😂
U would be so good on top gear good job again keep the good work 👍👍
Maybe one day! Thanks for watching
How do you manage to have & review my dream cars and guilty pleasures alike..... Get out of my head :D
Top review - as usual. We got a little of everything in this one though, political satire, history, and the evergreen, "blame the dog" for the fart! And somewhere in there we also learnt that the mk 3 Beetle isn't too bad. Job well done!
Haha thank you!
bought my first one for £100 pounds way back in the day well before drinking and seatbelt laws so gotta soft spot for vw beetle quite fancy the new model though
7.18 😂 love the edit!!!!!!! Brilliant Matt!!!!!!
