Yes I agree. Move the door and swap the hallway access. Love the interior and colors. The bathroom is perfect. I could live full time in this. Thanks for the review.
I missed this video when you put it out. Glad I found it, I like this one a lot. Thanks again for your time and effort you put into your videos cause it shows.
Apparently Cougar's was already in the works on revamping this layout before I even realized it and opened my mouth so.. it'll be interesting seeing where it goes
Would like to thank you so much for all your information. You made searching and deciding which one to buy a little easier. All the information that you have provided us actually made us make a decision as of today. We are now new proud owner and can't wait to hit the road. Thanks again and keep doing what you're doing!
I like the idea to move the door to the center. If you flipped the bathroom to the other side would that not create the hallway you need. Keep up the great work Josh!
Two things. 1. Love it. Going to have to run this by the Mis. The King Ranch has this in the bag 🍻 2. Keystone must have listened because if you go to their site the door is where you wanted it!😅
It’s about time that dealers are honest about half-ton towing! Thank you! I had an F-150 rated for 12,500lbs of towing. What nobody wants to talk about including the manufacturers is that you HAVE to subtract the weight of the truck itself, and its occupants and the hitch and the stuff in the truck, then what is left is what you can SAFELY and more importantly, legally pull with that truck. If you get in an accident, your fault or not, towing over your limit makes YOU liable for whatever happened, not the insurance. Shame on the manufacturers of trucks to actually advertise the towing capabilities without disclosing these details. I bought a trailer I “thought “ I could tow with it. I did all the upgrades, sway bars and air bags, shocks and it still didn’t fix the towing issues. I had to upgrade my truck to an F-350 just to be able to tow it legally and safely. Yes, I could have gotten an F-250 and it would have done the same. Point is, half ton towing is much more limited than is often realized.
I sure try. There's a lot of bad towing info out there And frankly.. I've been an unintentional source of some of it in the past. It comes with experience I think
Josh just looked at the new improvement 23MLE and they nailed it. I’m thinking it’s the best floor plan that cougar has. And thanks for all your videos and hard work
I didn't even know they were making that new 23MLE when I mentoined something in this video but apparently it was already underway It's going to be their #1 FW this year. I feel that confidently in it
*So in this video I mention an idea that would allow for better traveling access to the bathroom and bedroom. Turns out Cougar was already working on something along those lines **_before_** I even ran my mouth lol* New version will be called a 23MLE and I'm really looking forward to it! STAY TUNED! I'll get footage as soon as one becomes available! -Uncle Josh, the RV Nerd
Love the design kitchen window is nice for the person washing dishes lol very well laid out plan and the chairs would make it easier to make more living room space especially if u already have an outdoor eating area
Looks like Cougar took your advice. Just saw the 2023 Cougar 23MLE. We have a Ford F-150 with the Heavy Duty Payload Package, giving us 2469lb capacity on the door sticker and rated to tow 11,300. Love your stuff, Josh. Keep it up and do a review of the 23MLE!
I actually discovered they were _already_ doing it and I just happened to coincidentally have a similar idea. And I couldn't be happier!! That new 23MLE is going to be their #1 fifth wheel next year if my guess is right
Thanks as always for explaining things like payload. We are surprised everytime someone buys a fifth wheel but doesn't know what payload is. Also, we love tiny couple RVs. Would love to see a skinny body with a walk through bathroom like the briefly made Winnebago Micro Minnie. Seems like we're as rare as they are!
I love your good with the bad and the God's honest truth of all the facts that allow potential customers to make a safe decision for them and their families !
For my wife and I, no pass through is a deal breaker. We often stop for sleep time when/where opening the slide is dangerous or not possible due to space. We often pack with the trailer with the slide in. We store in a garage where we can't open the slide.... You get the idea. Your suggestion to alter the floorplan is intriguing, but I wonder about weight balance issues. I've always thought the weight of the slide is most often balanced by the weight of the kitchen.
I've never seen balancing being an issue but it's a concern I have heard regularly over the years. Looking at used RVs I don't see things like irregular wear patterns resulting from "unbalanced" models though
I like your videos. I like the idea of putting the in middle, then the dinette is close to the working space. I am not sure how that will work. I saw another one of your video with the soda next to the work area and I didn't like. And if you put hallway on the side of the door, then you would have to swap the bathroom to the other side. If I am camping overnight at a Harvest Host and you can't use the slide-out, then it a major issue. There are some brewery that will not allow to park overnight with slide-out.
Josh , I agree, put the hall way on the passenger side and have the full bedroom and bathroom without worry of the slide. I think you came out with a video from Hershey about the prototype. , that will be awesome.
My favorite 5th wheel.. only one thing I don’t like is those outside speakers.. bring those down please.. If you can’t bring them down leave them off.. I’ll get a blue tooth speaker..
Thanks for the comments on "Half Ton Towable". By the time you load food (easily 100lbs) clothes, some water (100lbs for every 12 gallons) some people and pets (3-500lbs)... you will most likely be over weight for most Half Tons.
Nice unit overall, especially kitchen size for a 27ft. For sure deal breaker with no road mode access to bathroom and bed. We have a 2016 Rockwood 8244ws, 27ft total length and access to everything except one TV in road mode.
Thanks for the honest take on half ton towing. I have a 2018 F 150 that I was told could handle the Rockwood Windjammer no problem...it's the first tow behind after our Colemen pop-up, we'll after owning it a year got to looking into how much weight the 150 could handle....OMG...it's a half ton truck...who the hell cares how much Ford tells you how much it can tow the tongue weigh for the Windjammer is 900 some odd pounds I'm told.... does that mean I got about a hundred pounds to mess around with? People plus pets plus baggage plus asunderies ...oh my I think I might need a 250!
It's something I wish I knew more about earlier in my career. I've never intentionally suggested a poor truck/trailer pairing but I know at some point earlier in my career I did do just that I can't fix what i might've done, but I can make sure I'm doing better now
Loved this video! Thanks Josh. I agree with your changes, the only negative is the travel access. I hope Keystone is listening. Wish they would make the same changes in the 24RDS. When will they be releasing 2023 models? Maybe there will be some changes?
As I get older, I'm less interested in towing our 37' Montana. I have been looking at Class Cs. However, this small 5er would be a LOT more simple and might be a less expensive (than Class C) alternative to a Class C. Hope Keystone is listening to you about entry door.
Josh great video! Can you do a 5 shortest 5th wheel video. And then add attachments to the the full video showing each model you selected. We noticed you didn't show the bathroom fan. Like your idea, move the pantry where the door is keeping the no headwrecker entertainment. What is the sleeping length on a dinette. Do they very between brands? Thank you Bishs for giving us honest Josh!
Dinette sizes can vary by brand and even floorplan within brands. Most builders don't give us individual specs so I need to rely on our sales team to get those hand measurements as needed Bath fan is the 4" variety TY for the video idea btw!
Easier fix to the floor plan is to split the bath. Put the toilet and sink on the deeper side and the shower on the opposite and place the hallway in the center. Liesure Travel does a similar setup.
12:39 … but, it is still #NapTastic as the dinette converts into a bunk, which in transit it should already be converted into 🤨 *(unless you Swaption the free standing chairs & table) 🤷🏽♂️ * also if you Swaption the theater seats for the hide a bed couch you can still lay flat on it when still folded down (albeit not as wide for 2 people) 🛋 These are the 2 main things at a travel stop 🛑 you’ll need, as there’s usually access to restrooms 🚽 wherever you are (other than places that aren’t 24 hours) ⏰
We have the 24RDS and quickly changed out the recliner seating. Hated reclining and have no head rest. Purchased a Lazy Boy Finley love seat that reclines. Did need to mount it on some 3/8" by 4" metal strips for the front feet of the love seat since they overhang the slide out flooring by a 1/2 inch. Great camper otherwise.
Josh you did a Tire video, possibly with the last dealer, can you do one again. Cant find it. I currently have Adanta Radical ST, well the went the way of the western sun. I would like the middle of the road. Not cheap and not expensive. Thanks 👊😁👍🇺🇲, keep on keeping on.
I have done a few different videos. They should all be here on the channel still in our “tips” playlist Not sure what info you’re seeking. I have not done a comparison video or anything
I like the floor plan just as it is. The only thing that bothers me is not having drawers under the bench’s in the booth dinette. It’s so much more convenient for those of us that live in our RVs. It makes that storage more accessible and useful.
I would love to see a comparison review of cougar trailers in fifth wheels versus grand design products. Also would love to have a list of fifth wheels and travel trailers that are full-time RV approved
So close to being perfect with the solar, an attached ladder, theater seating, optional kitchen seating, decent TV placement and porcelain toilet👍👍Since you didn’t mention it, I assume the bathroom fan is a 4 inch fart fan😕and no “standard” true queen mattress is a big disappointment☹️Your door recommendation of a middle door is interesting but those large steps would then take up a good portion of your center patio area?
I think that's a great idea for the door to be moved Don't understand why they put the door at the end of the anyway but what do I know camping nerds rule
Payload isn't talked about enough for towing, I apprecciate you always shedding some light on it. My friends F150 payload rating is 1,606. With two adults, two kids, their stuff, they are already over the rating for this trailer before you add in additional trailer cargo. It's a total bummer but without a very specific truck/5th wheel combo you pretty much need a 3/4 ton for safe 5th wheel towing. That isn't to say I havn't seen a Colorado towing a 5th wheel, to each their own.
Just sucks 3/4 tons are the price of a small house. I have a Nissan Titan and a 28ft RV and even though I'm well under the tow/payload rating I would still be using a 3/4 if I could afford it. Better to have and not need than need and not have, unless your broke.
@@ninji5226 it depends how you spec them out. Don’t get me wrong they are definitely more than say a base model titan but you can get into gas 3/4 tons for 45-50 ish. Sure it’ll be a base model but considering base models now are like the higher trims of the past it’s not to bad. Plus most gas 3/4 can still tow anywhere from 13,5 to 16,5 depending on brand and spec.
@@aguyandhiscomputer Because I don't want the payment of a $50-60k truck doesn't suddenly mean Im broke or can't own a trailer. But, in the case of towing more is in fact always better, it's just not always needed. Not to mention there are steps you can take with a half ton to make it more capable. Beef up the suspension, brakes and engine, which I am slowly doing, and your still coming in way under a 3/4 ton in price.
16:10 the TV hook up cover plate is askew 📺 minor, but the details matter & points to the level of overall care taken in the manufacturing process (as if the visible stuff shows lack of care, the hidden stuff could be worse) 🤔🤨 even though KeyStone Cougars have been known for the build quality 🤷🏽♂️
It's a fair concern. There were a couple of crooked things like a power outlet and the plate you mentioned. Unusual misses for cougar but misses nonetheless
Nice looking rig. We had one of those new 32 foot cougar 5th wheels. Our mistake. It had virtually had no insulation. We discovered it had one layer of bubble pack for insulation. We traded it off for a grand design.
I like the floorplan. not crazy about the benches, don't have huge drawers. They're in smaller Cougar TT..U can't beat rockwoods table. otherwise good layout. good storage. there's so much more prep for a table like the one here. Is there some reason brands don't just use the same table. Attractive bedroom. dark wood is so inviting, to me. bathroom is deluxe. love the seat in the shower. 5th wheel is a iffy thing for me. I'm a senior. Have a litter trouble navigating stairs. They have good support, I'D have to try em. I think anyform of a cabinet , should have support to stay open. I'd rather have a door shade from bottom up. Alot more security. Another Cougar TT I've recently look at has 2 huge drawers IN DINETTE & one huge drawer under the pantry. (IN THE SLIDE) Also a front kitchen. I like it just as well. AND I WON'T FALL UP OR DOWN STAIRS. GET RID OF RV MATTRESSES. IT CAN'T BE THAT BIG OF AN EXPENSE. AS LONG AS SPACE ALLOWS FOR THIS CHANGE, USE A COMMERCIAL MATTRESS. THANK U JOSH.
By moving the door it appears that it would put it over the tires, it may be a clearance issue. The only mis, for me is true queen and I would like the table and chairs and not the booth. Very nice setup.
Yes you are crazy, but that's why we like you. Lol. And I agree with you on the moving the door and hallway. When it comes to air bags i tell people it is like going from an average pair of shoes to shoes with air or gel in the souls. Yes they may make you a little taller and yes they will make it easier to hold something heavy, but it won't allow you carry even more weight
Watch out for the slide-mounted fridge. A wind Vortex can form, sucking air out the upper vent and burning out the thermo-fuse. Sollution; install a custom wind deflector on the upper vent. That fixed the issue on my Couger. Problem also occurs on Montanas with slide-mounted fridges.
Note: This doesn't necessarily apply to 12v or residential refrigerators that may not require sidewall venting. It really applies only to gas/elec two-way fridges
The bathroom is higher then the kitchen sink. So all they would have to do is run the pipes to the rear end of the fifth wheel & T up with the kitchen pipes.
*sigh* length is 26’10”… not 36’10” as written in my specs chart in the video. Sorry everyone
_-Josh_
Thank you for clarifying, I’m like there’s no way 😂
Darn, I thought I had caught you. But as usual, you corrected the error. Nice little unit.
Love your idea. To make it the ultimate camper,
It needs a drop frame, so you can bring your pellet grill 🤔
Great job explaining payload my friend!
Appreciate your safety based info as well. Making the difference we can!
Excellent idea!
Interesting unit!
Yes I agree. Move the door and swap the hallway access. Love the interior and colors. The bathroom is perfect. I could live full time in this. Thanks for the review.
I really like this one. Very cool.

I love it! I'm with you and really like a back window!
YES on redesign for road access to upstairs!!
Little late here but WOW! Cougar did good. Very impressive space and layout.
Thanks Josh!

you are so right about a door at the edge of an awning
a door in the middle is a big upgrade
Thx Joe
100% agree on centering door and upper deck access. Excellent 1/2 ton towable cautions! Thank you.
My dad had the real Arcade version of Frogger! Man, I was the most popular kid on the block! I had mastered that game!
Yes move door and make bathroom and bedroom accessible definitely!
Awesome video, finally not a bigger is the new keeping up with the jones travel trailer. As a single guy, this is a perfect fit.
TY James! Here's another good/smaller cougar model if you like this size: bit.ly/3E7VuHb

8:04 🎶 overhead cabinet doors (raindrops) keep falling on my head 🎶 😖
I like the idea to move the door to the center. If you flipped the bathroom to the other side would that not create the hallway you need. Keep up the great work Josh!
Cougar should explore and examine your craziness.
Well, a center door is a better idea than my first thought of a crawl through window space in the slide
😂🤣😂🤣
They actually did it! I have footage of it coming soon! :)
Good comment on the payload!
Ty. It seems like something people don’t always know about
Love the bedroom! Your idea of moving the door sounds better.
They actually were already a step ahead of me when I suggested it -- look at this one! bit.ly/3gg7j7A
Two things.
1. Love it. Going to have to run this by the Mis. The King Ranch has this in the bag 🍻
2. Keystone must have listened because if you go to their site the door is where you wanted it!😅

Good idea with tweaking the floor plan.

Yeah your right on the nose, it's possible not F 150 worthy! Am having the same issue with our 2018 Rockwood Windjammer , sad face! Adorable videos!!!
Josh just looked at the new improvement 23MLE and they nailed it. I’m thinking it’s the best floor plan that cougar has. And thanks for all your videos and hard work

Table & chairs would be my choice. Interesting layout.
I have always been a fan of a well built cougar 😂
lol
Love the design kitchen window is nice for the person washing dishes lol very well laid out plan and the chairs would make it easier to make more living room space especially if u already have an outdoor eating area
/me cries tears of joy. A bigger oven!!!
Rockwood is good for that as well btw
Looks like Cougar took your advice. Just saw the 2023 Cougar 23MLE. We have a Ford F-150 with the Heavy Duty Payload Package, giving us 2469lb capacity on the door sticker and rated to tow 11,300.
Love your stuff, Josh. Keep it up and do a review of the 23MLE!
I actually discovered they were _already_ doing it and I just happened to coincidentally have a similar idea. And I couldn't be happier!!
That new 23MLE is going to be their #1 fifth wheel next year if my guess is right
The outdoor shower can be connected by flexible hose to the black-tank clean-out. Then you can use hot pressure water to clean out that tank.

I feel like the half-ton 5th wheel payload “horse” has been thoroughly beat to death.
I feel that way too which is why I put it near the end of the video
But I still see people overloading so.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
thanks for pointing out bathroom access debacle!! deal breaker!!

Good point on payloads.
Ty. Needs to be a more common point of discussion
wish the TV wasn't so high...my only complaint.
#frogger I kinda like this 5th wheel. I could pull the Harley on a small trailer behind it and still be shorter than the semis I used to drive.

Try this one m.ruclips.net/video/VnIlUD0TaHk/видео.html
Solves that problem and stays under 30ft
I like the floor plan just as it is. The only thing that bothers me is not having drawers under the bench’s in the booth dinette. It’s so much more convenient for those of us that live in our RVs. It makes that storage more accessible and useful.
I hear you, but I also find you get much more dinette seat storage that way than with slide-out drawers.
You know the patio loss you mentioned is a solid point.. TY steve
@@ninji5226 and if you're broke, you shouldn't have a large trailer anyway.
@@JustinG9698 That would be Ideal for a 5th wheel but my Trailer is just shy of 6k and my towing capability is over 9 so I'm good.
As allways...dump the theater seating...lol...hate the fixed divider with a passion.
No way.. YOU?!
Nice looking rig. We had one of those new 32 foot cougar 5th wheels. Our mistake. It had virtually had no insulation. We discovered it had one layer of bubble pack for insulation. We traded it off for a grand design.
Sorry but where was the insulation lacking? Those two companies use nearly identical insulation methods
Love your idea with mid door and travel access to the bathroom. As Captain Picard would say....." Make it So!"
The bathroom needs to be accessible in road mode. Move the door.
TY Mike
I like the floorplan. not crazy about the benches, don't have huge drawers. They're in smaller Cougar TT..U can't beat rockwoods table. otherwise good layout.
good storage. there's so much more prep for a table like the one here.
Is there some reason brands don't just use the
same table. Attractive bedroom. dark wood is so
inviting, to me. bathroom is deluxe. love the seat in the shower.
5th wheel is a iffy thing for me. I'm a senior. Have a litter trouble navigating stairs. They have good support, I'D have to try em. I think anyform of a cabinet , should have support to stay open. I'd rather have a door shade
from bottom up. Alot more security. Another Cougar
TT I've recently look at has 2 huge drawers IN DINETTE & one huge drawer under the pantry.
(IN THE SLIDE) Also a front kitchen. I like it just as well. AND I WON'T FALL UP OR DOWN STAIRS. GET RID OF RV MATTRESSES. IT CAN'T BE THAT BIG OF AN EXPENSE. AS LONG AS SPACE ALLOWS FOR THIS
CHANGE, USE A COMMERCIAL MATTRESS. THANK U
JOSH.
Good half ton warning
By moving the door it appears that it would put it over the tires, it may be a clearance issue. The only mis, for me is true queen and I would like the table and chairs and not the booth. Very nice setup.
Wow 60 gal fresh and over 2k cargo!
Yep!! Good stuff
J'adore énormément les vidéos
I kind of like when the rain spits in my face. 💦
Ok then
Yes you are crazy, but that's why we like you. Lol. And I agree with you on the moving the door and hallway. When it comes to air bags i tell people it is like going from an average pair of shoes to shoes with air or gel in the souls. Yes they may make you a little taller and yes they will make it easier to hold something heavy, but it won't allow you carry even more weight
man that's an amazing parallel. I seriously might use that. TY
9:59 … & we have a fully carpeted floor 🤦🏽♂️ 😔
I can't stand wall-to-wall carpet and was very disappointed to see it in the bedroom.
The bathroom is higher then the kitchen sink. So all they would have to do is run the pipes to the rear end of the fifth wheel & T up with the kitchen pipes.
