Just be warned, law school has very little to do with being a lawyer. It is just 3 years of the driest theory possible. Your future law firm will teach you how to be a lawyer, because you will know nothing about the law. Also the cost.. Better watch a couple actual lawyers takes on law school before enlisting. Legal eagle on youtube has some excelent videos about it on this platform. It is very expensive and the LSAT is gonna determine a large portion of your career anyway. So be warned, again.
@@Jartran72 As a 3L, I can confirm law school is super expensive and will feel like the longest and hardest 3 years of your life. However, Jartran is right. Most law schools only teach you about the law. Very few actually teach you how to be a good lawyer and prepare you to advocate for clients the rest of your life. I would suggest you seriously consider whether you want to be an attorney or not before you get too deep in. It is a rigorous, expensive, and time consuming journey. So you need to be absolutely sure it’s what you want to do before you get halfway through your 1L year and realize you don’t really want to be an attorney. Certainly happened to a few of my classmates.
I'm not the biggest fan of the police either, UNLESS I need them because someone is breaking into my house, or I need a welfare check performed on the house of the nice old gentleman who lives across the street from me who has not been seen for several days, or some maniac is driving crazy on the road getting ready to crash and take a bunch of innocent people with him, or a child goes missing and someone needs to search for him, or unless some fool is shooting up a movie theater, or someone is selling drugs out of his back door in the house next to mine, or unless an elderly woman has become confused and wandered off somewhere and her family can't find her, or someone is trying to steal my car right out of my driveway, or my teenage daughter is three hours late coming home from a date. Oh wait. Maybe I AM a fan of police!
@Maryann Anderson I wonder, sometimes, what it would be like to be a pedantic, bitter human. Then I realize it's a shitty way to live and isn't for me, but you do you queen! Edit: I realize I mightve been a little rude implying you were a miserable human. But after 30 seconds of thought, I realize your entire novel is based on something I never directly implied or outright said. That's a fallacy, kiddo.
@@maryannanderson2213 I don't get how getting your neighbor into prison for drugs is helping anyone. The addicts go some place else and your neighbor is in prison. Making drug problems a police problem doesn't help anyone but that's how the laws are in many places unfortunately... With the other stuff you have a point but you don't have to be a "fan of the police" to be aware that they're necessary. Similarly how you can realize that taxes are necessary for a working society without being a "fan of taxes".
In the UK here, those spike-strips are called “stingers”. We’ve had several pedestrians killed while crossing the road, by speeding police cars chasing suspects.
I...really have to wonder the kind of Darwin Award people want when they see the one car going a million miles an hour, hear the police sirens and go "nah, I'll cross now."
@@UltimaKeyMaster This. In the same way that I can't really understand why the cars (that got hit by the felon in this video) ENTERED the intersection, when there were multiple sirens blaring, and it appears the traffic lights were flashing. Darwin Award indeed.
Something that I always think about is that police see the worst in people day in and day out. It must be incredibly difficult, maybe impossible, to not go into situations with a certain bias or demeanor. We don't give police enough credit for doing such a tough job because it definitely seems like the odds are stacked against them. Bad people always have the upper hand sadly.
It doesn't help that these days they have like fifty different jobs besides law enforcement that ought to be handled by other agencies. A lot of the arrest videos I've seen don't need a uniformed cop with some handcuffs as much as they need some big guys in white nurse's outfits with a butterfly net. Basically every underfunded public service job like social worker or drug counselor eventually ends up becoming a cop's job one way or another. And yeah, every cop I've ever known was jaded as hell because they hardly ever see nice people.
And then we admonish them for showing the slightest bit of bias around black men. Black men kill cops at 18x the rate of white men. Probably 90% of their “resisting arrest” cases involve blacks. They have blacks shouting in their faces as they do their jobs. How could you be exposed to that for years on end and NOT be biased?
@@rivercitymud Yes! It drives me crazy when people are just blindly and adamantly against police reform because clearly there are flaws in our system! It would help police AND citizens to come up with better solutions to treat the community. If you want police officers to be a catch all for first responders, then they need wayy more training and required schooling. It’s just not fair or safe for anyone
“Please dont let me die” “I’m begging you”.. I can’t imagine the fright he must have been feeling at that moment. Gunshot wound to the leg, hand, and center mass.. All he had was an equally frightened coworker to call upon an she came through, Good stuff!
I think you are right about drones. Police have usually used helicopters to aid them in trying to pursue suspects in high speed pursuits to find ways to cut them off and safely end it, but a drone could probably follow a car a lot better than a helicopter. Drones are smaller and quieter so it could definitely remove some of the need for having a high speed chase. Once they have the license plate they could back off and let the drone follow it and decide the best way to pursue it.
Because some people are walking around with an IQ somewhere in the 70s and don’t operate on what you would consider a human level of reasoning. Their thought process is alien, it’s hard to even grasp how little they think about the consequences of their actions. They’re just reacting to stimuli of the moment.
"Never commit a felony to avoid a misdemeanor." That sounds like it would be so obvious that it wouldn't need to be stated and yet we are constantly seeing Einsteins who do just that! Apparently, common sense ain't so common! After that crash, I can just hear people saying, "Why didn't the cop just let him go and arrest him at his house?" Sounds like a fantastic idea but if they later learned that this was a kidnapping and after the bad guy got away from the police he did unspeakable things to the child and then ended his life. Those same people would be screaming 'WHY didn't the cop keep after him? He could have saved that child's life." To people who hate cops, whatever the police do it is the wrong thing to do.
I think it being after midnight is why they continued the case. I've seen a lot of chases called off during the day as there's just so many more people both on the road and on the street. Still it's usually a department policy and often times they may have to ask a supervisor permission to continue.
sometimes its also a requirement that there be a forcible felony involved. At my department if there was a forcible felony involved then the pursuit was authorized....you didn't have to request permission, however the supervisor or the initiating officer could cancel based on traffic conditions/danger to the public.
Suggestion Bruce...could you make your picture smaller and the one we are watching larger since we are just listening to your dialogue on these types of videos ..love your videos and keep up the good work
He was exposed and from the view of the camera, they set themselves up for a friendly fire situation. The female officer on the left couldn't fire without risking hitting him. They probably couldn't see each other through most of that encounter.
I watched a police cam in NM of a high speed chase on the wrong side of the highway. Totally insane! The cop lost his life because he crashed into an incoming vehicle, which also took the life of that innocent man. Madness.
Bruce you gotta do a quick search on how modern spike strips are. They’re called “sticks” now and they’re quickly thrown to be deployed and have a rope essentially to be retracted back so the coo chasing doesn’t hit them. Pretty cool stuff!
Very excited about this podcast! Lots of us are better listeners than watchers.... I can't wait put my phone in my pocket and just listen during long walks with my dog. We appreciate the work you do!
Some updates from the press " *Police release edited video of shootout that wounded officer, killed man.* Greenfield police released a 10-minute edited video Thursday of a shooting between police and a suspect fleeing a traffic stop. The shooting happened after a traffic stop and car chase on Aug. 22. The video was edited by police before being released publicly. Police have also not answered questions about the deadly shooting. Lamb, 31, of Milwaukee, was on probation for two prior convictions for fleeing officers and as a felon wasn't legally allowed to have a gun."
What kills me about episodes like this is the suspect's utter inability to stay low key. If I had something that I don't want the cops to see, why the hell would I attract their attention by rolling through freakin' red lights?? I don't get it.
In Wisconsin, the patrol cars have a computerized radar system. When they are on a freeway, they scan all the license plates on the cars in front of them. If the owner of a car, person car is registered to, has a warrent out for them the cops computer will alert them. What I've been told is the screen inside the patrol car will turn different colors depending on what kind of warrant it is. So, you don't have to break any laws at the time you're driving for them to pull you over, bc they know before they stop you, you have warrants. How common is that kind of radar, and wouldn't you need to be speeding or something for them to stop you?
@ikillpenguins6723 I agree but people have no way to know they ran your plates unless you are pulled over. And at that point they might make up a reason. I do know drivers that were pulled over though related to that. Also while I lived in Wisconsin not all counties had that kind of radar set up in police cars. Winnebago county sheriffs used it on Highway 41 patrolling on the freeway.
To touch on something Bruce said. If you carry, it stands to good reason to inform the officer immediately that you are armed upon being stopped. Even if you are not in a duty to inform state. I take it a step further and keep my license, registration, and insurance in a small plastic envelope, in my visor. Should I be stopped by an officer, both of my hands stay on the steering wheel, with the envelope on the dashboard. I do not move them until instructed to do so by the officer. I've been stopped twice while carrying. Both times I was not disarmed, and the officers expressed appreciation for being forthcoming about the firearm, rather than having to be asked about it. Just some food for though.
Love your content but it's hard to see what's happening in that small square, is it possible to make square bigger momentarily while watching it while making Bruce's picture small in the corner? Just a suggestion, I will still watch the show because I love everything about the show. Thank you so much for everything you do.
Some real life solid advice here, thx Bruce! I guarantee you out of 72m views ya got there's at least a handful of lives you've saved from people seeing these vids 🙏 Good stuff
4:00 let me tell you something about chases… YOU CAN’T OUTRUN A RADIO! Not to mention dash cam means your likely identified even if they backed off and you got away. Your still screwed. Your only going to get yourself in a lot more trouble and likely hurt or kill yourself and others. Better just stop and take whatever punishment you’ll get versus ending up in far more trouble. Just remember… you can’t outrun a radio.
The shooter, Tyran Lamb, died just after he ran past the cop that he shot at close range. He collapsed in the grass just a bit after the clip Bruce showed ended. The clip ending like that makes it look like he got away so I had to search up the incident because I was curious if they caught him and what his sentence was. It seems that not only did he turn a lesser crime into a more serious one, he turned it into fatal one for himself. Thankfully the officer he shot survived.
I definitely understand why cops should back off - but imagine that guy has a dead body in the back, or goes home to an abducted woman, and we find out that the police abandoned a chance to stop the suspect.
There's no charge that's worse than shooting an officer. Even if you have a dead body in the car killing or attempting to kill an officer is like the worst thing you can do in the system
@@JohnDoe-qz1ql Murder is punishable by death in multiple states. But just because it's a possible sentence doesn't mean you'll receive the maximum sentence.
Cops can back off but they definitely should NOT. They have no idea what is going on in that vehicle. Imagine the amount of damage a kidnapper or grapist can do to their victims in the time that it will take for the police to track them down. And then everyone will turn against he cops saying they didn't do their job by backing off in the first place

The first time I missed my curfew as a teenage girl, my father only told me" nothing good happens after midnight" I never missed another curfew and found myself telling my teenagers the same thing, ten years later.
Whenever I get pulled over, I have made it a policy to act like the officer coming to my window has spent the last 8 hours watching footage of dash cam footage of deadly traffic stops. Cops do NOT want to drop their guard, even in mundane circumstances. They just can't know that you're 100% not a threat.

@@Jartran72 Also, AI chatbots will obliterate a whole lot of legal jobs in the coming years.

I'm not the biggest fan of the police, but what you said at ~11:00 minutes really resonated with me. You're absolutely correct in your statement.

@Gregory Benway Is it because I'm not willing to be bullied by a passive aggressive internet troll? If so, you got me.

Agree 💯 Well said !! 🙏❤️🕊
Nietzsche said it best "Careful you don't look into the abyss too long, because it also looks back into you."

I love a good chase! It's crazy how many LA has and apparently always has had. Thanks Bruce and Michael.

I'm trying to understand why people seem to think that pulling over is an OPTIONAL action when a cop lights you up.
Because some people are walking around with an IQ somewhere in the 70s and don’t operate on what you would consider a human level of reasoning. Their thought process is alien, it’s hard to even grasp how little they think about the consequences of their actions. They’re just reacting to stimuli of the moment.
He knows what he has done. I'm sure it was highly illegal.
They didn't take a moment to knock their 2 brain cells together and have a thought regarding their actions.
Great content as always Bruce and Michael!

LOL, My Mom always hit me with the "nothing good ever happens after midnight". 98% of the time she was right!
Bruce is like a Guru for all dads 🙏
Well, I just think we should only hire clairvoyants as cops. Problem solved.
LOVE THESE BREAKDOWNS
keep up the great content!!!
Bruce, I like the added visuals on your desk. 💯🙌
I think it being after midnight is why they continued the case. I've seen a lot of chases called off during the day as there's just so many more people both on the road and on the street. Still it's usually a department policy and often times they may have to ask a supervisor permission to continue.
My logic went there too. Since few people are out at that time they pursued.
sometimes its also a requirement that there be a forcible felony involved.

New to your channel and absolutely love it! Been watching all your vids as much as I can these past few days! 😊
He was exposed and from the view of the camera, they set themselves up for a friendly fire situation. The female officer on the left couldn't fire without risking hitting him. They probably couldn't see each other through most of that encounter.
I love how much you love your son. Parenthood goals! 💕

Some updates from the press " *Police release edited video of shootout that wounded officer, killed man.*
Greenfield police released a 10-minute edited video Thursday of a shooting between police and a suspect fleeing a traffic stop.
That was a dad talk many people out there need.
What kills me about episodes like this is the suspect's utter inability to stay low key. If I had something that I don't want the cops to see, why the hell would I attract their attention by rolling through freakin' red lights?? I don't get it.
Man, I LOVE your videos! So glad I found this channel.

Those officers will NEVER completely get over that night. Personal experience.
it's distressing to hear the fear in the officer's voices

In Wisconsin, the patrol cars have a computerized radar system. When they are on a freeway, they scan all the license plates on the cars in front of them. If the owner of a car, person car is registered to, has a warrent out for them the cops computer will alert them. What I've been told is the screen inside the patrol car will turn different colors depending on what kind of warrant it is. So, you don't have to break any laws at the time you're driving for them to pull you over, bc they know before they stop you, you have warrants. How common is that kind of radar, and wouldn't you need to be speeding or something for them to stop you?
Better be real careful whose car you drive
Is that even legal? in my state they can't run your plate unless they see you do something
Fucking surveillance state
Bruce, you really give great advice. I appreciate you.
Bruce, thank you for your complimentary information! Keep rocking in the free world
This is an excellent topic, please continue topics of this nature...
I’m willing to wager those guns weren’t legal hence why they didn’t want to say anything or stop
@@jay-1800 Indubitably, I was merely touching up on Bruce's point about carrying when being pulled over.

I hope you do a followup to this. I want to know what charges were filed.
Supposedly the suspect died very shortly after the shootout
The shooter, Tyran Lamb, died just after he ran past the cop that he shot at close range. He collapsed in the grass just a bit after the clip Bruce showed ended. The clip ending like that makes it look like he got away so I had to search up the incident because I was curious if they caught him and what his sentence was. It seems that not only did he turn a lesser crime into a more serious one, he turned it into fatal one for himself.
Thankfully the officer he shot survived.
err. Tyron Lamb I think.. sorry for the typo. It seems the first article I read on it spelled it wrong.
Seriously, after beasting on all of the CLR vids I'm ready to take the bar exam
I definitely understand why cops should back off - but imagine that guy has a dead body in the back, or goes home to an abducted woman, and we find out that the police abandoned a chance to stop the suspect.
Excellent Work Guys !
As Always...
Thank you Bruce and Michael
There's no charge that's worse than shooting an officer. Even if you have a dead body in the car killing or attempting to kill an officer is like the worst thing you can do in the system
Idk of any other offense where the death penalty is on the table with only one charge.
@@JohnDoe-qz1ql
Murder is punishable by death in multiple states. But just because it's a possible sentence doesn't mean you'll receive the maximum sentence.
@@SonOfNone Maybe some, killing a cop is punishable by death, and likely, in All states, not here and there.

Don't commit a misdemeanor while committing a felony. Don't commit multiple worse felonies while trying to get away with the first one.
Great video !!!!! Very good lesson to learn!! Awesome producer you have Bruce !! When is your podcast coming out ?
Cops can back off but they definitely should NOT. They have no idea what is going on in that vehicle. Imagine the amount of damage a kidnapper or grapist can do to their victims in the time that it will take for the police to track them down. And then everyone will turn against he cops saying they didn't do their job by backing off in the first place
Do you have any videos where you explain best way to behave and handle a traffic stop or other police interactions?
So what was the outcome for the officer who was shot?
He was hit in the leg, chest and hand. needed two surgeries for damage to his lungs, liver, intestines and spleen. He’s back at work now.
A friend of mine's husband died when a PIT maneuver went wrong. innocent bystander struck by the fleeing car when it flipped over and started to roll. She was left with nothing. San Jose Police Dept. refused to take responsibility for it.
