Same here. My dad was always there for me physically and financially, but the only way he knew how to communicate was through anger with yelling and put downs. If I was a jerk, I would be jealous. Fortunately, I'm not, and it's really touching when Bruce selflessly gives his son the credit he deserves.

When i was stealing my mothers belongings for cash and stealing money from my brother, it was more important for me to be okay for one night than my entire family relationship. Preach! They think we are all pan handling dirty dingy people but there’s a lot of us who are functioning or high functioning addicts with ability to fund our addiction. But we usually have some unresolved trauma or rationalize are usage by saying things like “people drink all the time, why can’t I do drugs as long as I’m responsible” which can be true but usually we are killing ourselves or hurting loved ones.

My dad was also an unassuming addict. He was a home owning, tax paying, veteran with steady employment who also had a cocaine addiction. He died 3 years ago when he unknowingly did coke laced with fentanyl. Im sure this guy felt like his life was over but I promise him his family would rather see him in jail than in the morgue.
Also, you made me cry tears of relief when you said that the death is a peaceful death. I've never wanted to look that up because I was afraid if the answer. I've spent 3 years wondering if my dad was scared and struggling in those last moments and realized the horrible mistake that had happened. I trust in your experience you are correct and will hold on to that because it truly healed my soul just a little.

Desi, can confirm what Bruce said: it is a peaceful death. Probably the most peaceful. I hope it doesn't hurt, but your Dad was there one minute and gone the next. I'm sorry you lost him, but no, he didn't suffer.

I know how you feel and how hard it is not knowing if a loved one went peacefully or not and I've been frequently preoccupied by those same thoughts when my dad's body was found in a dam on my birthday. We didn't even know he was missing because we thought it was at rehab and unfortunately there are mysterious circumstances and the case is still open but we have no idea exactly what day he died since he was last seen on surveillance camera from a gas station buying food to bring with him for rehab and since that was almost 11pm we don't know what day he actually died on because it could've been before or even after midnight. All we know was his body floated fully clothed down the river for a week before he was found in fishway gates at the dam and his cause of death was drowning. It's haunting not knowing if he was lucky enough to go peacefully or fighting for his life while drowning 😢 we have 2days that I mourn his possible death date, then grieve the entire week he was in the water and grieve again on my birthday for the day he was found. The year I was born my birthday happened to fall on father's day which happens every so often years and it's the same way this year. I truly wish you the best in life as you continue on and my thoughts and prayers are with you and we don't know each other but if you need someone to talk with just reply and let me know and I'll give you my email or something. Take care

@@jujubean54ify thank you very much and I agree with everything you said especially what you said about never getting over it. I was taught that I shouldn't cry in front of people as well and also when I have experienced great loss such as my dad or another 9 close relatives in a 15&1/2month span of time 4 of whom had cancer and I helped care for them, I've been told by people that time heals all wounds and that I should get over it and it'll get better. When I know someone who has just experienced a loss and reach out sometimes I tell them about it and I tell them that I wish I could tell them honestly that it'll get better and that time heals all wounds but I refuse to lie to them as some have lied to me and so far I have been thanked for my brutal honesty and am usually the first person they contact when they need to talk or cry or scream and don so they don't always feel alone because it truly never goes away. I don't think it ever could. The way you described it is so accurate and well-written by the way, good job! I get the impression that you have experienced great loss as well and as I offered to the other person as well, if you ever need to talk or vent I'm here for you also. My thoughts and prayers are with you as well. Take care

This same exact thing happened to me. I pulled up to a gas station after being up all night smoking crack, fell asleep, and woke up to officers prying my door open thinking I had overdosed. They searched me and found a crack pipe on me (that i forgot was on me and it cut the officers finger) he was angry but was immediately sympathetic when he realized how messed up I was. They didn't charge me thankfully. They sent me to the hospital. I've been clean 8 months now with the help of a spiritual program. This video reminded me of myself. I hope the guy can get his life back on track. I have met some of the greatest people I know in recovery. Us addicts are not bad people. We need help and guidance. I now help other addicts and alcoholics get their lives back together the same way someone showed me how. It's a beautiful way to live man. I am so grateful for the life I have now. I wouldn't take all the pain and suffering I went thru back for anything in the world's because it shaped who I am today.

I just want to say this, to anyone who might go through a relapse: DO NOT try to do as much as you used to do, ESPECIALLY something like heroin, crack, coke, anything of a dangerous nature like this. Probably the most common form of OD is when someone relapses after not taking it for a long time, and trying to do the amount they no longer have a tolerance for.
Obviously, I don't encourage someone relapsing into stuff like this, you should stay sober, but if this advice helps save a life, I'll be happy.

Or more likely they set out to speed ball..crack and meth dealers DONT GET REPEAT biz if they.put drugs together that cancel each other out in ways. It's way more common for people to speed ball than for dealers to cut uppers with downers..because most their customers don't want to be sedated and repeat biz is the ONLY way to deal drugs. It's very common however for users to use street Rx pills to come down from the speed/coke/crack and most pills on the street are just fake fent knock offs now. So I feel your pain, but I think you misinterpreted events due to drug users not being that open about how and what they use.
I have an extensive history with first being an addict and now spreading awareness of the dangers of drugs now. It's dangerous to spread misinformation because you wouldn't believe how many addicts think pills are safe and the fent is in powder drugs. Heroin is what they cut with fent..

As a person who has been clean from hard drugs myself for almost 7 yrs, I think that he should be sent to rehab, but barred from serving in public office ever again. I understand better than anyone the struggles of addiction, but there needs to be a higher standard for our elected officials.
I'm just extremely thankful that I got out of the dope game before everything started getting laced with Fentanyl.
Also, BRUCE I implore you to research the truth about cops and getting exposed to "fentanyl" in the field. It is NOT possible to absorb Fentanyl through skin contact just from touching the powder. The cops perpetuate that narrative in order to create sympathy or fear or whatever, and all the videos you see online are really just uninformed/uneducated officers suffering from panick attacks. Psychosematic symptoms can create just as real a reaction as actual chemicals. It's pretty extraordinary actually. Cops have plenty of risks that they deal with, but on the spot exposure to Fentanyl is complete nonsense. Just trying to get the truth out there.

Luckily for me I'm coming up on one and a half years clean next month, and have no desire to return to using. I've found that what has helped me the most to stay clean is putting all the money that would have gone to drugs into an investment portfolio and keep track of all the money on paper. It helps with redirecting all the mental energy I used to put into figuring out how to get high, plus it really puts into perspective all the money I would have wasted on getting my fix everyday. In just 1.5 years I've put away almost 20k. It's insane.

I hate all parties… why does no part ever fking address out prisons system??!! It’s fking EVIL.. im athiest and don’t believe in “good” or “evil” persay so i don’t use that word lightly… this shits EVIL 😂😂

My mother has been a respiratory therapist since well before I was born, so I grew up being used to her coming home from a shift in near tears, asking for a hug because a child out there was now without a mom or dad, or how someone not much older than me wasn't going to get to grow up now. Once I got old enough, she started telling me about how they died specifically, and how much they must've suffered. Because of this, I've always been incredibly aware of how this can, and will affect anybody in some way. You're not safe from it just because you came from a wealthy, white family. You're not even safe if you've never experienced any type of trauma. Though I'm not a religious person, I pray that one day every addict has the outlets and resources they need to save themselves, and that every family member, friend, and/or community member has the resources they need to decompress.

This is a reminder that addiction is a PUBLIC HEALTH issue, and it should be treated with seriousness and respect. Just because someone is addicted to a hard drug doesn't mean they're bad people. We have address the root causes of drug use and violence in order to improve our societe.

Yeah people that take drugs are often people that never thought that they would be taking drugs.
Many start when they are in a vulnerable state and then you are addicted and therefore you continue.
I understand that people wonder why people take drugs but they also need to try and understand that things aren’t as black and white as they seem.

I am 5 plus years a recovering addict and deal with sleep apnea and it sucks. I will be sober 6 years on June 15th. I sleep with a c-pap and if I don’t use it at night it’s hard to stay awake during the day. I pray anyone who needs help get the help they need. It’s definitely not worth it. I made a lot of dumb decisions during my active addiction days. I give all the credit to my wife for getting me the help I needed.
