- Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

If you enjoy checking out Bangkok and other SE Asia spots, consider subscribing. I'll continue to make videos showing the streets in Bangkok and beyond. Thailand is amazing and a great place to visit, work or retire. I'll do my best to show you how to live affordably in SE Asia. Plus, enjoy some great side trips from Bangkok.
I can't wait, I need the email to join your group
Amazing, the amt of relevant / useful info you pack in ..
Thanks for watching. Of course this is just my opinion. Hopefully, it might help someone
Great look at Pattaya!
I appreciate you watching
I love Pattaya. I always stay at the Page 10 hotel off second road and a short walk to Beach Road. Lots to do in that area.
There are so many great little hotels. Pattaya can be a lot of fun. For me, I can party for 4 or 5 days and then I'll head back to Bangkok. But, I always return
I'm staying there in June.
@@Thornwalker. Have a great trip
I've stayed in this Holiday Inn and my room was facing the road....no issues at all. i think i was on 3rd or 4th floor.
Ya, it's not too bad. I think the windows are double thick. It's 1130pm, and I can't hear the bars below
Joe. Thanks for that realistic view of budgeting in Thailand. Most RUclipsrs sugarcoat what the actually costs will be.
Of course this is just my opinion. You'll still spend some cash in Thailand. But, your money will go much further.
I used to be Platium, but since retired, I dropped down to Gold. I live in Thailand and use points for free stays when the Holiday inns are more expensive. I use Holiday Inn credit card for all purchases and pay off every month
The IHG is a pretty good program in SE Asia. I'm in Hyatt, Marriott, etc.. but I always s=find a good deal with the Holiday Inn Express and use the points at a fancy Intercontinental
lol. I live in Vegas and haven’t been in a casino in many months. But of course I worked in them for years. Love your content. Thx. I’m moving to Pattaya in a couple of months.
That's great, man. You'll be right at home in Pattaya. Everything in moderation
Very cool! Nice there is a Holiday Inn Express
Sure is. They also have a Travelodge that's affordable. Both with free breakfast
I’ve never been but before the plague there was a ferry from Hua Hin to Pattaya. You could live in Hua Hin and take the ferry across to pattaya once or twice a month
I remember that ferry. Hopefully that service returns one day. I usually take the ferry from Phuket to Krabi
Nice vid Joe. Really enjoyed your talk. Are casinos common in Bangkok or Pattaya? Assumed given the party and bar nature of both countries it would be common but haven't really seen or heard about it.
Good shout about the credit cards. My folks travel to India often. Been sending them in business class thanks to points. No way I could afford that otherwise. Only catch is now they frown at economy for long haul flights haha
No gambling in Thailand yet. There's talk about floating casinos. But not yet. Thanks for watching

Railroad pension in Aug 1 2024 (engineer)
$5,200 before the tax a retiree will pay
So I'm so glad to hear my pension will stretch in Thailand
I plan to retire abroad
Thailand Malaysia Cambodia Vietnam
Your channel helps a lot
Thank you, brother
St Louis, MO. is hot with humidity
I'm hoping to be acclimated to the humidity
Hey that's hard work. But, the railroad pension is awesome. You can live like a king on that pension. Even save plenty of cash for those business class tickets to visit family. That lie-flat bed is pretty nice
Yeah, it was a grind
Both of us seen huge changes in our occupations versus when we started
I'm learning a lot from you & others
I don't know how to repay you guys that have shared what you've learned, other than pay it forward
Be safe
Stay cool
@@craigellis8354 Ya man, all I ask is a thumbs up. Helps me with You Tube. My buddies nephew is an engineer. Lives somewhere near his old hometown of Decatur, IL. I never met the guy, but I heard he had a nice career. I think he's about 15 years in. So he has a ways to go. You're right, everything is getting tighter. I remember when I had a few years in, we used to be sent to help the guys 20 plus years. These days, a guy can have 30 plus years on the job, and they still get on his back. I'm grateful for the job I had, but being retired is way better
Great video ! I believe alcohol is the major contributor that doubles or even triples living costs in Thailand especially Pattaya ! For hotels in Pattaya I usually spend around $60-$70 a night for premium hotels like the Arbour or Amethyst through the Priceline app. That’s a bargain compared to New York City where I live.
You can get some nice hotels at a bargain. Compared to NYC prices, it's all a bargain
Minus the military, this sounds like my life. 12 more months before I retire. Pension and dividends for the first tw9 years, then SS. I'll do 6 months in the US and 6 in Thailand. I love my country also and love my Dodgers. 😁
Light at the end of the tunnel. My last year flew by. That sounds like a good plan. Except the Dodger part. Go Padres! I know, I know. But Tony Gwynn was fun to watch growing up. My friend works at Petco corporate. I really miss that beautiful box behind home plate. You have to admit Petco is a nice ballpark. More Dodger blue when they come to San Diego
@EagerExpat lol. I can't knock SD. A city that produced Tony Gwynn and Ted Williams..👍👍
@@goyoy6433 I was at that game Ted Williams came out for Tony Gwynn night. Plus my ex had a kid play for Tony when he coached at SDSU. He went way to early. Dip is no good
Just added your video link to my most recent vlog description & tag. Aloha!
Hey thank you. More videos coming out each day
I like your way of thinking on the credit card. i would sign up for your Chase card but have too many cards now. I remember Kevin in Thailand (RIP) Great guy, i used to watch all his videos👍
Kev was a good guy. I went to the Hideaway meet four or five times. He got me thinking about moving to Thailand in 2014? I visited a few times and decided on Bangkok. But, Pattaya is a great place to visit
@@EagerExpat Last year i went to Pattaya International Dental Clinic Kevin did a video about them. it's right there on Soi Buakhao,. paid just over $5k to have a root canal, two bridges and 11 ceramic crown. My Dentist in LA quoted $20k.
@@LuckyCatAdventures They have some great dentists in Thailand. I made a few videos on my dentist in Bangkok.
@@EagerExpat nice, I’ll have to go back thru your videos and watch it 👍 if you google ( casa pascal condos ). That’s where I like to stay in pattaya
IHG points go a long way in Thailand, especially with the book 4 nights get one night free with reward booking.
Cool vlog❤❤
Thank you very much
I am going to relocating to Thailand for the exact reason you stated. I make 150k a year and I can work remotely; I still want to maximize my money and the great exchange rate makes my move to Thailand a no brainer. It's such an easy decision, live in Oklahoma where its hot with no ocean, or live in a 3500 square foot pool villa in Pattaya or Hua Hin (where it is also hot) and go to the beach every day and my $150k is 5 million baht a year.
You'll live like a king in Thailand. I love the US, but there are many other affordable ways to live. Plus, Thailand is a lot of fun.
Just love your vids 👌
Going to be in Bangkok in July
Using so much of your info as a holiday
I’d like to ask you Joe
I could see the Nature VIEW Hotel there
BUT ….. the big white Hotel there ???
DEB????? I could see on the front of it
I got google maps up.
Still couldn’t find it.
Looks like a nice place to stay , maybe 🤔
Kind thanks Mate
Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
Hey thanks for watching. I think that other place is Deabu. I'm a Holiday Inn Express guy. It's just 5 minutes from Deabu to my place. The free breakfast is also decent
Thanks Joe !!!
* holiday reference
I meant to say there in my comment to you.
Seriously , you , SLT & Chris Parker are the only guys I watch.
Just the best info.
SO handy to use as a reference.
I’m going to stay a few nights at DOUBLE TREE in Bangkok , only bcos you mentioned there is a good bar/music place opposite.
I love my music 🎶 💗🎶💗🎶
@@marqui1968 Cool man. Queen Bee across the street is fun, but you're also a 5 minute walk to Otto bar for some rock or 2 trains from Green Room Bar on Soi 7/1. John own Queen. Great guy. Send a comment a few days before you arrive. Maybe grab a beer across the street at Stella's. She's a 10 minute walk from Doubletree
Queen Bee 🐝, that’s it. !!!!!👍👍👍Sounds like a great little place
I've lived in Vegas for 40+years and, as most locals will say, I stay away from casino's😀
Thanks boats. USS Horne (CG-30) 84-88. I love Las Vegas. I think in a future video I show the new Las Vegas Beer Garden. The have a Cosmo, Venetian, Flamingo, etc.. bar

2k you're living great in Pattaya. That's If you don't drink every night lol.. 2 or 3 times a week you can party
I agree Pattaya is more affordable than Bangkok. Housing, drinks, food. I enjoy the big city, but I visit Pattaya or Jomtien often
I'd move to Bangkok the end of the yr (62) But I'm "into my health" and breathing "the Insane Air Pollution" in Thailand / SE Asia is hard to to Justify (been a RN for 30 yrs) ..
Thanks for watching. Yes, the air quality can be an issue. I live on the 22 floor. I can see a bad air day just looking out the window. It's not everyday. Maybe 3 days of bad air once a month. Mostly in the heat of the day. I just avoid heading out on those days. In the videos you'll see locals wearing masks. That's more for pollution. Hopefully, one day the burning of the sugar cane fields will stop. But, if they stop in Thailand, you still need to worry about the other nearby countries.
How do you do that early social security thing?
You have to be a federal worker (Border Patrol, Air Traffic, Postal, etc..) and have 30 years service before you turn 57. I had 37 with 4 years Navy. You then get 75% of the age 62 benefit from the federal pension program. It's called the Social Security offset. At 62 you decide if you want to take Social Security or wait until 63, 64, etc.. Not many people have the 30 years by age 57 and fewer yet can afford to retire at 57. They still need to work fulltime with overtime. So not many people get the benefit. I'm fortunate, but 37 years Federal time was also a chore
@@EagerExpat I am a rural carrier with USPS. When I hit 57, I will have 25 years of service so no offset for me. Working until I have 30 years will kill me on the inside. This lack of money in early retirement is why I’m interested in Asia, whether it be Thailand, Cambodia, or possibly Vietnam.
@@matthewkendall8544I hear ya. Walking a route for 33 years was no picnic. But, I was grateful for the job
Average salary in the UK is $43,800 (USD not GBP). It is a far poorer country than the US.
I should have explained maybe $40,000 of my salary was overtime and double time. I'm grateful for the job. But, I worked way more than the average hours of 40 a week. I was closer to 60 hours. But, compared to the 24 days of the military it was easy.
Can you recommend a good Visa Agent in BKK that does 30 day tourist visa extensions?
I never used one. It's pretty simple to get a 30 day extension. 1900b and a simple form. A few passport photos, thai size, and a few photo copies. But there are dozens of places that will do it. Contact them. I think you can do it the day you arrive. Get a 30 day exempt stamp on Jan 1 until Jan 30. Jan 2 get a 30 day extension until Feb 28
Or whatever 30 more days is
@@EagerExpat I know a few visa agents in Jomtien but not BKK. I will just look around when I arrive tomorrow. thanks
@@Robmar40 Ya there everywhere around Nana, Asoke and Phrom Phong. I go to this pub on Soi 13. I think the large office building has two or three agents.
Wow! I cant believe the benefits you receive as a mail man in the USA. I've a good friend who is working in the sorting office of Royal Mail and he makes about $16 an hour and will have a fair pension, but nothing like you speak of. Our post office also cut 40% of benefits to recent employees. So they'll not receive such a competitive hourly rate nor pension or shares. The UK is going downhill fast. I'm considering selling up and moving to The Philippines or Thailand.
Yes, I'm very lucky with my US Postal benefits. Many federal jobs in the US come with a great benefits package. I'm glad to be retired, but I was fortunate to have a nice job. Being a mailman in San Diego isn't a bad way to go. We have a pretty strong union. I believe it's the second largest in the US behind the Teamsters. The pension is based on years of service. I paid a small fee to have four years of military time, so I ended up with almost 37 years. So, it's a nice pension. Plus, it goes much further living in Thailand
@@EagerExpatyou certainly paid your dues. congrats on retirement 🎉
@@kkranker Thanks man. Yes, we all have to work. I got off pretty easy in life. Carrying mail at the beach wasn't to bad an assignment. But, being retired is way better
What can you get for 30,000 bht a month
Depends on where. Asoke a 35 meter condo. On Nut 5 train stops away, maybe a 60 meter 2 bedroom. High rise or 3rd floor on a 5 story building? Dozens of factors
@@EagerExpat what’s the site for me to sigh up
@@lancewilliams5726 I don't have a site. Just having some fun with this RUclips channel
Big drinkers need lots of cash in pattaya. Not a good idea though. All things in moderation. I've seen Pattaya suck people in and chew them to pieces.
Drinking too much is never a good idea. But, 50b beer is way better than 160 a bottle in Bangkok. Rent and competition is much better in Pattaya
