I really enjoy Lift in small doses, so her interlude in Words of Radiance and her chapters in later books are great. Edgedancer length is basically my limit for Lift content, my enjoyment of her character is already dropping towards the end and if the book were any longer I would probably avoid rereading it. Mostly because a lot of her moments are repeated again and again, there’s only so many times I can read about her stealing someone’s food or using big words to say something rude to “avoid being crass”.

I love Lift. She reminds me so much of Meg McCaffrey from Trials of Apollo

I read it in the opposite order. I started The Trials of Apollo and inmediatly went......LIFT??!! Love them both.

Hot Take: Lift is one of my least favorite characters
Possibly related note: I took the Official Knights Radiant Order Quiz and am, *by far*, a Skybreaker

I dislike "Interludes" in general, but Lift's interlude didn't annoy me as much as others. Interludes are Brandon's easy way out of developing characters that are part of the story. "Here, I am going to introduce a character, totally out of context. I won't tell you anything about why it is even here, you will know in 10 years."

An example is the interlude related to the ardents/scribes who study flamespren.

I love the interludes. I mostly look at them as a way to get a glance into other part of the world that the main storyline doesn't include, which is always interesting. Other give a new perspective to a familiar situation. I guess I just never saw them as a chracter thing.

@@TheCozz95 True, but think again. Why don't you know anything about the rest of the world? How many trips has it been made by different characters between Kholinar and Shattered Plains? How much do you know about the trip? Would you rather have learned about it during one of those trips, or have a side character in an interlude that doesn't mesh with the story, showing a thing or two. Characters in Cosmere teleport to places. There is a huge difference between showing the world and telling about the world. Not everyone can show a world.

@@karohe I would rather have the interludes. Doing what you suggest would slow down the story massively and just isn't worth it imo.

@@TheCozz95 read a Tyrion chapter from book 5 of ASOIAF for reference. In a single chapter you learn about the world, the near past and its history. That gives depth to the world. It is different from the sheen that we are used to in cosmere. How many cities do you know about in Roshar? Name a city in Shinovar. You won't know what I mean unless you have read other book series.
