I’m finally losing weight since being on a schedule with cardio and keeping track of calories. Low carb is what works for me and my body since I was truly eating waaaay too many carbs. Also eating real foods. Lots of fruits, veggies and water. This might not work for everyone, but it works for me.
She’s great! I’ve only done fasted cardio in the morning after a night out (eating a heavy dinner, dessert, midnight snack) because I still have enough “fuel.” Other than that, I cannot workout on an empty stomach, I feel like I’m going to pass out. Since the quarantine, I’ve been eating a good breakfast, workout out about 2 hours later then having a good replenishing meal. It’s been working for me, I’m down 15 lbs in 8 weeks and packed on some lean muscle.
So to answer the question - Do not work out on an empty stomach. - Eat an hour before you work out - Eat an hour after you work out. Am I understanding this?
I only do fasted cardio because I run VERY early in the morning / I’m talking 4am - well-before breakfast. If I eat a full meal before a run or workout, I need about 2 hours for that meal to digest. Otherwise, my digestive system is competing with my workout for my energy.
Agree w/this completely! Growing up w/health issues & a passion for fitness & nutrition I’ve found that exactly what Jillian is saying to work the best for majority!!
YES! 12 hour fast has been so beneficial for me. Anything more messes up my blood sugar and hormones and anything less makes me feel sluggish and bloated ⚡️
Usually i have a small meal around 7 pm sometimes later. Typically Im not hungry in the morning. I just have my coffee before my workout. Thats my body's natural rythym and it works for me.
Since July of 2018 I started not eating after 8pm and it's worked for me perfectly. It's helped me maintain my weight and become healthier since I also exercise 6 days out the week.
Love Jillian Michaels!!! Love the video!!! I would love to see other video about some of the proper form for some popular fitness moves...push-ups, and especially weighted burpees!
I usually do my exercise at home in the morning. Had oatmeal and bread for breakfast. I make sure to start my exercise 2hrs after. And yes i am into 12hr fasting
Since last October I have been practising intermittent fasting where I eat from 12 noon to 8pm. I workout for an hour with exercises every second day at around 2.30pm and go for an hour walk twice a week. I have lost 6kg since doing this.
Thank you so so much for this video. This is the first video that isn't 100 minutes long and that actually is quick but thoroughly informative. Thank you for this!
I always workout in the evening around 6. So i take my lunch by 2-2.30 so that gives me food for my workouts but also i am not very full before exercise. It helped me shed a lot of weight in the last 2 months.
Great video Jillian. Please post the video on fasted cardio as I really would like to know from you about this. If I’ve missed it, can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you.
I love it that you make everything so easy Jillian. Health shouldn't be too complicated and you show us that it isn't necessary to get crazy and to follow stupid rules. Thanks 😘💪
Hi Jillian, please, please make a video about good, tough cardio 30 min session for us with knee issues (patellofemoral syndrom in my case). I tried low impact cardio workouts I could find here on You Tube but they just don't get me tired and sweating enough. I am used to the tempo from your workouts.
Wanna see this fasted cardio video! Been doing cardio in the morning am not hungry and not skipping meal for any reason you described but other than it’s when I can fit my run in. Help! Have I been sabotaging myself?
Any advice on eating while trying to build muscle/body building for men? I like your viewpoint on health and fitness would like to know your take on adding more weight or changing the exercises to keep the body adapting while also eating the correct way
I love Jillian! He advice just makes sense! I do prefer however working out on an empty stomach - that way I don’t feel like I’m going to puke during the workout.
However, most working people have a hectic schedule from 7am - 6pm but we do want to make time for a workout. So we cannot eat 3-4 hours-I wish! By the time we I get home and have diner it’s 7:30pm. I am just saying most of us work Monday- Friday 8 hr shift 1 hr lunch and have kids .
Take notes people she’s giving GREAT ADVICE!! Too many fitness influencers on Instagram telling you to eat 2000 cal and work out for like two hours! If you’re not a bodybuilder there’s no reason you should be doing that in the first place. I’m glad she made this video.
Personally I’m more likely to work out if I do it first thing in the morning. I’ve tried eating a few banana bites and it makes me ill while working out. Empty stomach works better for me but I think everyone can try different ways and see what works for them. Our bodies are all too unique for it to be a blanket statement.
I should try that a 30 g of almond butter and coffee in the morning before gym. I used to drink avocado smoothie before a 60 mins cardio treadmill brisk walk .
THANK YOU at last a common sense approach...have been trying 16-18 hours fasts but agree with you that I end up over eating in my ‘feasting window’ and I really miss breakfast!! Going to try your schedule...do you have any videos on suggested meals/snacks? I eat generally healthy foods but my snacks/treats are my downfall...
Thank you so much!! I’m with u! A little bit of breakfast and a cup of coffee then 1 hour later I workout and have tons of energy!!! I always wondered the same and felt a little bad bc I wouldn’t workout on an empty stomach despite what I was told. I want energy when I workout! 🙌🏼 thanks again!!! U rock!
For me personally, I find if I eat straight away in the morning, I eat more throughout the day? Why is that? I typically eat between 11am-1pm my first meal. Then I eat dinner around 5pm & 6pm and then I attempt to be in bed by 8pm to be asleep my 9pm. Having said that though, I do drink caffeinated coffee with creamer that has sugar and with a few teaspoons of sugar. Which I know is something I have to cut in my diet. It’s really hard as I have been drinking coffee in the morning since I was 14, I am now 40. I’m not overweight. But I have like no muscle. I have never worked out regularly in my whole life. Starting with at home workouts and hopefully working up my confidence and courage to hit up a gym. I would make an annoying gym member because like a toddler I need to be told exactly what to do, when to do it, for how long, etc. It has to be structured. Being on the spectrum dictates that sort of routine with knowing exactly what to do and when or else I panic.
Wow thanks so much, this answered so many questions I had. I felt 16 hours was too long to fast and that 12 worked for me but didn’t know if I got the benefits. Also didn’t know whether to eat before or after fitness. I watched this video doing flute exercises as my dinner simmers. Thank u and u look beautiful as always

I have a question I was really hoping you could answer: Is it better to have a 300 calorie meal for dinner and then a 100 calorie snack an hour or so before bed, resulting in an 8-hour fast, or a 400 calorie dinner and no snack before bed, resulting in a 12 hour fast. It’s the same amount of calories. But I’m just not able to have a 300 calorie dinner and then go to bed on an empty stomach about 4 hours later. The hunger makes it hard for me to sleep.
good information! I always wondered is the eating after a workout needed? also I wanted to ask what do you recommend someone like I who works night shift schedule 10:30pm-6:30am 5days a week? what should eating schedule be like?
For me weight loss and healthy eating is really difficult because I suffer from hypoglycemia. I take my medication but I still get low blood sugar. Someone advised me to eat smaller meals but more frequently but that doesn't help, it actually makes it worse. Now I eat normal meals - breakfast at 9 am, lunch at 13 pm, snack around 17 pm and dinner at 20 pm, but I still get hypos. And also for some reason when I eat a fruit even a banana, after that I am starving. Help...

Hi Jillian, please help on: not loosing weight although calorie count reduced to recommend (cal: 1400)and started exercise also(cal burn alternate day 50-160): (about 2 months)

I am really curious about this upcoming fasted cardio video--for myself personally, I find that eating within a few hours of running always results in me getting stitches, while having a few carbs after cardio helps keep my blood sugar level stable.
Michelle you stated that a little something before working out is suggested I am an early riser I normally just have a cup of coffee with cream and then I go work out in my home gym not hungry. don’t know if I can stomach a half of banana with almond butter but if I have to I will but I’ve been just drinking a cup of coffee with cream then I work out do I need to change that habit?

What if I’m the kind that has no appetite in the morning what so ever but like to work our first thing in the morning (I find that I have the same amount of energy if not more) is that bad ? Or do you only recommend against it due to energy levels?
It is actually better and studies have proven you burn more fat with fasted exercise. So keep doing you and don’t listen to her as gospel. She is not omniscient.
If it works for you yes, it’s different for everyone. Also try not to do intermittent fasting everyday - especially with 16:8 - you could sprinkle in 12:12 every other day !!! However at the end it’s what works for you!

She’s the best. just makes sense...and also always has great hair.
Her hair is always in point. Looks so good!
Fr lol she pulls off short hair so well!
She ALWAYS looks so good. I love how practical she is.
I love intermittent fasting though . I like working out in the morning showering and than having breakfast. I don’t think anything’s wrong with that
Same, it’s so much better
I also feel amazing when doing it in the morning and somehow I do it better..
Same. Working out in the am makes life easier.
@@deelynnpowers1668 yes!! im so glad people agree with me and support this

How many carbs roughly in a day? Do you still have legumes/fruits and veg that have carbs?
This is exactly what worked for me
This is good. Keep on doing it. Low carbs high fat is what really a great healthy food you should eat. Listen to cardiologists and many doctors.
I smoke crack and eat raisins. I went from 300 lbs to 125 lbs. Now i'm going start eating healthier.

As a trainer, this is a question you get so often. Thank you Jillian. Your advice is highly respected.
So to answer the question
- Do not work out on an empty stomach.
- Eat an hour before you work out
- Eat an hour after you work out.
Am I understanding this?
I’m almost at 100lb weight loss. What I like to do if I can is eat before I workout. So therefore after I’m not super hungry! It’s worked for me.
That's so awesome! Keep up the hard work!
I have the best results, more energy and feel better overall when working out fasted.
