- From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
Cast: Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbott, Margaret Qualley - Развлечения
i just saw this at an early screening, the theatre is packed, every joke landed, everyone's having a good time. def another yorgos masterpiece.
I love many of his films. Sometimes I feel like he can be overly cynical just for the sake of it. How would you rate this film using a cynical meter from 1-10?
@@filmingkey Its a very wholesome film compared to his earlier works c:
Me too, it was stunning.
Don't for get Tony McNamara when the plaudits are being rolled out 😀👍
Was it shocking at all? Heard it's more extreme than Antichrist
I went into this movie pretty much BLIND. I had only seen that preview where she spits her food out because it's revolting... I had zero context... And I was 1/2 horrified and 100% dazzled... It was beautiful and insane. Everyone did an amazing job, but what a huge range to see out of Emma Stone. WOW!
Same
This film was absolutely magnificent! And Emma Stone is absolutely killing it, perfect casting.
Can't wait to see it again!
I’m so excited to see that
Bravo bravo
It’s literally a movie about grown men having sex with a baby

Yorgos always has the best awkward dance scenes. I can't wait.
Emma's best role yet and I haven't even seen it yet
I can not describe, how I'm waiting for this movie
I´ll give it a try! You are sitting in your bed with your phone in one hand while petting a gray cat next to you with the other. There you go!
In a shade of chartreuse?
How not? What the hell are you doing??
Did you like it?
Nobody is talking how the bgm is glueing us to scenes it's just pure theatrical.

A timeless masterpiece, surreal, bizarre, yet profound. Truly a must see.

Just got out of the theatre! This movie is immediately enjoyable, but also improves upon reflecting in it
Incredibly odd and fascinating movie.
Just the cast alone sold me on this. Must see.
I just watched this film in the theater and let me tell you...this film is a masterpiece work of art!!! Everything about it was fantastic!!! This is a must watch!!!

Wow! This movie is beyond what the mind can comprehend!
This movie will be in Japan today and I’m so thrilled!
Can’t wait to watch this!!!
This trailer doesn't advertise this movie properly. The movie has more sex in it than most people would like.
The trailer doesn't include those parts on purpose.
It is rated R!
@@JohnnyCatFitz yes I know, but still. It's bazillions of sex scenes ...we didn't know she'd be a prostitute

Looks like Emma is here for Academy again... Hope this turns out good as the reviews are mentioning.
It is unbelievably funny. I watched it months ago and I’ve been waiting ever since to watch it again.

Thank You for the Inspiring Mini Review. 🙏
Is it (at all) like The Brand New Testament, The Congress, 3000 Years of Longing, and/or Pedro Morelli's Zoom - in Scope, Vision, and/or perhaps Beauty ?.

This looks like one of those weird films that will get the entire cast an Oscar.

I’ve searched for this movie within a fifty mile radius of where I live and it’s a No Show. Bummed. Have to wait for it.
Saw it at a preview event. This might be the weirdest film I've seen in a long while. It's so unhinged in the best way possible.
The best movie I’ve seen in years.
ALREADY A MOVIE OF THE YEAR

I am so hyped. Looks so original and well acted. Just wonna see and know everything about Emma's character!
Wasn't for me. Must be a white girl thing.
@@BoopSnoot I guess, I am white, so I probably will enjoy it. It comes across as a movie with a lot of artistic integrity which some people might describe as weird. I appreciate your feedback.
I love this trailer for some reason
Can anyone please tell me the best theater format to view this movie? I noticed it was shot in super 35 and with an aspect ratio of 1 : 66 : 1 That isn't particularly very wide. closer to a square than a ultrawide dolby cinema screen... but not square like an Imax... Is just a standard digital theater the best option for this film? Does any one know? Does anyone even care anymore or are they content just watching on their phones?
The Poor Things Searchlight Pictures Tralier Variant really shock me to the very core! 50/50!! This will definitely be used for ELECARLTON's first movie!! =D

I haven’t had a trailer really catch my eye in a while, at the start I almost clicked away but by the end I was definitely interested.
this is a movie with a lot of very hard scenes in it, but the development of the character thru the movie is really great, and there are some great plot twist at the end of the movie
definitely
Makes one almost glad to be alive.

Man they even got mark twain in this movie
Will there be a sequel?
Ruffalo's character is clearly inspired by Paul F. Tompkins - sad that they couldnt seal the real deal.
What is the music in the trailer

Found and read the book when I was 11 yo. I didnt get half of it but it blew my mind, so bizarre in argument and structure. I just realized after reading the review, the names rang a bell. I have the urge to re-read it now so bad!!!
This trailer hits me right in the feels
Can anyone tell me the name of the woman at 0:32? I'm having a hard time finding it on IMDb. Thanks!

Certainly, this movie is trying hard to seem artistic and surreal, but the overwrought, overacted performances make it come off as ridiculous. In the idiocracy era, this film could somehow end up with an Oscar.
A piece of art!!!!! Excellent cinema!!!!❤❤❤

So........is everyone just glossing over the fact that she literally had the mind of a child and it was ok to have sex with her? Even if the characters in the movie didn't know the full story, it was akin to having sex with a mentally slow person.
But it's artsy! Yeah, this is a pedophiles dream. Gross.
Nobody is glossing over that fact. It's a narrative device for presenting an adult character unfamiliar with the subtle intricacies of the world exploring the interactions such a character would have.
@@darryljohnson8516 She has the brain of a literal child. They made the character with a child's brain sexually active. That shouldn't have even been brought up to begin with, it's disgusting and exploitative.
@darryljohnson8516 Interesting. To me it was a "narrative device" that showed how a pedo can have sex without the stigma or guilt because even though it was a literal mind of a child, it was ok because the body was an adult. Only the audience was aware of that fact, so in the film, it was akin to men having sex with a mentally deficient woman. Thankfully the woman "learns rapidly" so her responses moved from a 5-6 year old to the responses of what I would expect from a teenager. This movie and its "subtle intricacies" played out like a pedo's wet dream. All the pleasure, none of the consequences, even when she became a whore. Everyone loved her quirky attitude and her childlike innocence and wonder at the world, BECAUSE SHE WAS A CHILD. The director could have used a literal child, starting at 5 and growing to 12 in his movie and it would have been the same. This film is like a pedo pointing and saying "You see? We're attracted to their minds! The fact they are still trapped in children's bodies is just an unfortunate circumstance!"
@darryljohnson8516 imagine if the movie "Jack" with Robin Williams had him discovering the world through sex with adult women. Graphic, explicit sex, while he was technically 10. This movie was like someone pointing at the screen and saying "You see that? We love the MIND of a child! The fact they aren't developed is just an unfortunate circumstance!" The film showed us how that would work by taking away the consequence. The director could have taken Emma Stone out of the role and cast a 12 year old and that character would have been the same, except he would be demonized.
This movie was fucking awesome. Everything about it hit just right and the energy in the theater was impeccable. I loved every second of it. This movie was absolutely DECADENT
I fucking loved this movie

Some scenes were very disturbing… 😳 that I fast forward lol but I liked the movie overall..
This movie was truly incredible. Possibly the best movie I have ever seen. Truly revolutionary. ❤
Watched it last night. It will make you question a lot of things. Nearly all of the people in the theater (it was full) stayed behind for a good 5-10 minutes in complete silence. Normally the whole place is empty in 30 seconds.
So a paradigm shift
Had they all fallen asleep?
We were going to sit around but my friend was hungry. I wanted an eclair after that movie.
Wtf is the premise ?
Pregnant suicide victim is renimated with the brain of her unborn baby by a Doctor Frankenstein-like character and proceeds to mentally grow into her adult body by discovering the ways of the world and ends up an intellectually liberated whore. I loved it by the way.
What if all our mental development happened in a fully developed body
@@labguru7628 whore is not the word these days
This was the weirdest film but absolutely hilarious craziness
I have no idea what is going on here
Really wanna see this
Cats-2?
calling it. best picture.
Is it hideously cruel? I find some of his films very cold at their core.
That has to be one of the dirtiest movies I’ve seen in a theater. It was so funny
I watched this with a truly brilliant 17-year-old boy from Shandong, China who has been staying with me for high school in America. I had to explain some of the film to Zihan but I was surprised at how close he came to understanding most of it. There was a lot of history of cinema, history of art, Feminist philosophy and Existential philosophy in it. Zihan even nailed the artwork as "Gothic/art nouveau/steampunk". The film also had an embarrassing amount of sex in it, but that was absolutely necessary for the story. Emma Stone went through all the stages of human development - babyhood (opening scene with Emma Stone acting infantile because she had just been created), happy childhood with an indulgent "father" who allowed her to explore in safety, teenage rebellion, twenties - "I want to learn and try everything in the world and danger and pain be damned" to maturity - a truly self-created person.. Simone de Beauvoir would be doing cartwheels out of sheer delight watching this film.
The fact that you're going on about how surprised you are that they came close to understanding most of it AND that they are truly brilliant, the only mitigating factors being English as a second language and being a teenager, is... something. Maybe re-assess your approach.
why are you sitting down to watch a film with 'an embarrasing ammount of sex in it' with a child who isnt your own. You sound so creepy
Am I the only one that really hates when Emma Stone speaks with the British accent?
Yep. You’re the only one.
we have enough of british actors speaking with u.s. accent
ELVIS
Emma Stone is in this when I seen the trailer looks good
Left before this movie was over. Weird.
But it's a child's brain in an adults body, yes? Weird..
I was thinking more on along the lines of a disabled adult but still weird lol
This is twisted and sickening.
The body is from a dead pregnant woman and the brain is of her baby
I’m still going to watch it though because I don’t think it’s just about her having sex, there’s much more to it
So of all the scenarios one could concoct ...the best we have is that she is having sex....w the bain capacity of a baby....and everyone is ok w that?
If you dont recognize what an utterly sick subject matter that is..well...we are doomed. We need to call that out and remove those scenes.
Come on guys !!
This is coming from me...a person who is quite liberal !
My god what the hell are we thinking ?!?!?!?
No, only for like the first 10 minutes. The brain grows quickly to match the body. Dafoe’s character mentions it in the trailer.
This movie should be called my sex journey lol … I see the good reviews and everything, but it’s not for me. The concept of it is unique to me; very theatrical and the message of the plot is good. However, I think the sex scenes were overboard-not saying they shouldn’t add them, sex is natural is not a secret lol but damn is it really necessary for the plot to put every sex position? 3/4 of the movie is about Bella discovering she likes sex, us watching every single time, and later getting money for it till she “grew tired” of it, and we watch every single time of that as well. Then, we finally get deeper into her character, the other 1/4 of the movie.
