Though I thought Emma stone was deserving, I do not understand why people think Lily had to win to represent the native Americans. Lily has given a great voice to Native American people. Winning isn’t everything, she has been a great advocate. So let’s just be happy that both of these incredible women have these victories.
Emma you made Yorgos Lanthimos proud, you're the second actress to win Best Actress under his direction. The other: Olivia Colman, "The Favourite" & your costar.
Am I the only one to notice that Emma ignored the shit out of her, twice? First when Jessica walked up and tried to fix her dress, Emma just walked off, and I passed that off as maybe she didn't see her/know she was back there. Then she made a point to walk up to all 4 other women after she took the statuette, except Jessica. I get "It's a chaotic moment and all," but this was Jessica's first Oscars in 27 years just to present that award and Emma treated her like she wasn't even there. Furthermore, unlike the Celine/Taylor thing, thing, there weren't any pics of them interacting backstage either. If that had been Meryl, she would be canceled already lmao.
4:53 She's being so authentic! I love it. She didn't even pretend that her dress was okay. She genuinely admitted that it was broken as she went up for her award. You go girl!
Love me some Sally Field. Congrats to Emma. I was rooting for Lily but I knew Emma was out in the lead and she seemed destined to lock it. Congrats to her. Emma is a joy to watch.
Emma Stone's two Oscars were absolutely deserved. In La La Land she gave a subtle and sweet performance (the scene in Audition (The Fools Who Dream) was spectacular and proved what an exceptional actress she is) and in Poor Things she gave an extremely original, wild and fearless performance. Which required her to be more physical and visceral. Her best performance, for sure. Wow! I'm so excited to see what Emily will give us in the future 💜
One of the most deserved wins in this category, ever. Lily was great, but sometimes another nominee is just out of this world. In this case, it was Emma Stone. Rooting for Lily Gladstone to have another shot in the future.
Well put. Everyone has their favorites, but at the end of the day, it is particularly satisfying when the performance that "hits it out of the park," no matter how unconventional, actually wins. Happy for Emma, but really happy that Academy voters honored her incredible portrayal of Bella Baxter.
@jedijones- I love it whenever an unconventional and not particularly a dramatic, “Oscar-bait” role wins or gets nominated for an Oscar! I loved Michelle Yeoh’s win last year and I’m very happy for Emma’s win, this year! I would’ve seriously groaned if another overly dramatic, biopic role wins again (Annette Bening in “Niad” or Carey Mulligan in “Maestro”)
@leserrors7669- Don’t get me wrong, if the dramatic and/or biopic role was the best if the year, then it’s totally deserving to win, like Cillian Murphy in “Oppenheimer”. I’m just saying, movie roles from genre films often gets overlooked at awards shows, in favor for the more “prestigious” dramatic performances, and it gets pretty stale overtime to see the same type of roles win every single year. So it’s a pleasant surprise to a few “genre” type roles get nominated or win. (Natalie Portman for “Black Swan”, Robert Downey Jr. for “Tropic Thunder”, Daniel Kaluuya for “Get Out”, Maria Bakalova for “Borat”, and Michelle Yeoh” for “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once”.
If you would have told me in 2009 that Wichita from Zombieland would be a 2 time Oscar winner for best actress, I would have said you were crazy. Congrats Emma.
I'd be heartbroken for someone who wins for one acting job when no one's ever seen her in anything before. How do we even know if she was acting? You kind of need to see someone play two roles before you can tell if they can act.
She definitely would’ve won had Emma not been there. Lily is amazing but Emma just fudging killed that role. Will definitely be seeing both of them win Oscar’s in the future.
@@jedijones She's been doing smaller indie movies for years. Won the Los Angeles Film Critics Award for Certain Women. Also was great in The Unknown Country and Fancy Dance.
still thinking about this! lily gave one HELL of a performance and could've easily won any other year, but my god do we blame it on timing cuz this is probably emma's best acting ever.
Lily Gladstone said in an interview that she build an instant friendship with Emma Stone and they both gave each other matching friendship rings and called it their “infinity stones”! The whole story is super cute and I believe that Lily’s reaction to Emma’s win was sincere.
I don’t blame Carey for being overwhelmed by the praise. It’s freaking Jessica Lange!!! A Hollywood Icon, The Supreme, and one the greatest living actresses right now!
Like Bella, Emma was not quite assimilated into this perception of life but approached it with bravery and wonder, and a miracle happened in being vulnerable and moving forward with love for herself and the people around her.
3:30 Here you KNOW that everyone there paid extra attention when Jessica Lange was about to speak haha Such a commanding presence, absolutely gorgeous!
Had I been Carey Mulligan I wouldn't give a shit about the Oscar, bc Jessica Lange just told me I was deserving, that's about enough for a lifetime haha
Emma genuinely didn’t think she was gonna win because she didn’t even have a speech prepared. Even the look on her face was one of shock. I was rooting for Lily to win but Emma totally deserved this win. Congrats!
Holy fuck I'm so happy!! Hands down my favorite performance of 2023. Lily Gladstone and Sandra Hüller were VERY tight competition though, this was a stacked year.
I felt that Lily Gladstone would’ve absolutely swept all of the awards if she’d completed in the supporting category, which was much less competitive than in Lead Actress. Viola Davis put herself in supporting to not compete against Emma in lead and they both ended up winning and it could’ve happened again this year.
A black woman won a *supporting* award this year. The last black woman to win a **leading** award was Halle Berry, 22 YEARS ago. Hollyweird/Oscars has ‘diversity/inclusion’ but heaven forbid someone not lily-white win too many leading awards.@@jedijones
@@powwowcritic13 No, it is because Killers was not loved by the academy and Lily was more of a supporting role. Please do not use the race card every time!
I wish that Andrew Garfiel would win the Oscar the next year for "We live in time", and Emma present the award for "Best actor" and read the name of Andrew for winner, that moment would be georgous 🙏🏻
Instant tears the moment she said: "...and most importantly, my daughter. Who is going to be 3 in 3 days, and has turned our lives Technicolor. I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl."
For those saying Lily should have one, her role was more of a supporting, not lead role, all things considered. Emma's role is the lead role in her movie. If Lily had been nominated for supporting actress she would have won.
Not really, remember the criteria for a leading role-Lily qualified. Emma's a good actress but this wasn't a great role, just to move and act weird doesn't cut it for me. Again, two steps forward, one step back...hail to the white people I guess...
I was gonna say this. As much as Lilly commanded the screen when she was on it, for narrative reasons, she was sidelined for a very large portion of the film (imo to its detriment) I can see why someone would pass up on her performance.
nah dude Lily not winning the oscar is an all time robbery. one of the best performances by actress i ever saw. she was flawless in every moment in every scene she did. when i think off all time oscar snubs i will always think of lily. such a travesty. oscar voters have always been spoiled elitist film snobs. disgusting they stole the oscar from lily.
Emma put everything on the line. Performance and character of a lifetime. Academy got it right, most voted her like they did with Olivia Coleman. We saw everything that an actress could humanely possibly do artistically in one film. She is in the ranks of actresses that have won 2 Oscars in leading and or supporting roles. Deep down it is about the people that she worked with and doing her job as an actor over winning awards!
I enjoyed her performance, but at the same time I never felt much emotion from it. I feel like this movie was more driven by its story than its acting.
@@jedijones You are wrong - do your research. Emma Stone won best LEAD actress in 2017 for La La Land. Poor Things is her second LEAD performance Oscar.
1 Emma stone 2 Sandra huller 3 Annette bening 4 Lily gladstone 5 Carey mulligan It was logical that Emma stone was going to win, although unpredictable no matter how logical it sounded, it was also logical that Lily gladstone would win, I mean it was crazy. The question is, why didn't Lily gladstone win? It's hard for people to understand but Emma stone winning the Oscar was the right decision. Some saying "How is it possible that Lily gladstone lost, she gave a masterful performance?" I wonder, What masterful performance? The only highlight of Lily gladstone's performance is having overshadowed Leonardo dicaprio and Robert deniro, that's all. Emma stone and Sandra huller gave far superior performances. The problem with Lily gladstone is that they made the mistake of campaigning to be in Best Actress, when her place was Best Supporting Actress.
Emma won her second Oscar for best actress only 7 years after she won her first one. Her performance in Poor Things is truly a breakthrough for her. You can't tell how brilliant she was! Also, I hope Lily and Sandra could win an Oscar someday.❤

That bit where she talked about her daughter, and how she turned their lives technicolor, that was just the sweetest thing. 🥺 And shouting out Taylor Swift there too.
I also like how it goes from that to her telling the crowd to not look at the back of her dress 😅
Not everything is about Taylor Swift!
This is common saying!
Poor things was not the easiest watch in the beginning but it was truly pure art the story was odd beautiful and artistic Emma is so deserving!
I went into it knowing nothing and was not prepared for so much sex and nudity but it’s a new favorite, and Emma was astonishing. Mark as well.
I do think she was more deserving in this role than in La La Land.
arguably but i think her la la land performance was slightly better
I think she deserves both. She’s brilliant
No, La La Land is fantastic and she's great in it
@@v1deo.hunter.d317Significantly less interesting character.
Ryan Gosling was the reason La La Land was as good as it was
This one was deserving. Still shocked with LaLa Land win. I was hoping for Lily Gladstone but wow, did Emma Stone shine!!
I was already smiling so wide when she came up to accept the award but the tears really hit when she thanked her daughter “I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl” ❤️
Emma Stone is so sincere; she made me cry too. She's such a decent person.
after emma won, i was half expecting them to mistakenly announce poor things as best picture winner 🤣
When it was winning those awards earlier, I thought it might pull it off, but it didn't.
@@sha11235it wasn’t going to win since it lost screenplay and was never winning director. The last movie to win BP without winning one of those awards was Chicago all the way back in 2003.
@@poett8875Poor Things WON best original screenplay 😂
So was Pacino. Kimmel had to go and remind everyone of the famous mistake. Should've brought out a Price Waterhouse guy to confirm to Pacino that the card was correct.
@@joshuacoldwater No, bro. Get some rest, you're out of it.
I think a lot of nice grandmas are going to check Poor Things out at home after all these Oscar clips made it look like a pleasant, romantic historical drama. They're in for a shock.
That would happen if clips hadn't made the nature of the film abundantly clear.
Though I thought Emma stone was deserving, I do not understand why people think Lily had to win to represent the native Americans. Lily has given a great voice to Native American people. Winning isn’t everything, she has been a great advocate. So let’s just be happy that both of these incredible women have these victories.
I wanted her to win because I liked her performance better than Emma's.
@@patryan3989 Ditto.
Amen!
@groverclevela - a karen comment…😏😏😏
Throwed a bone to the white people did they?
Emma you made Yorgos Lanthimos proud, you're the second actress to win Best Actress under his direction. The other: Olivia Colman, "The Favourite" & your costar.
Love how they had former winners honor each of the nominees. Powerful moment.
I don't think she was expecting to win. Lily Gladstone was the favorite to take this category. But Emma is amazing, she totally deserved to win.
It was a toss up, Emma actually won more precursors than Lily.
She played every stage of a person. She better win
Um... it's a video of her winning?
Wow--Jessica Lange looks AMAZING!
One of the most beautiful women to ever walk to Earth
1. Emma Stone
2. Lily Gladstone
3. Sandra Huller
4. Carey Mulligan
5. Annette Bening
Love me some Sally Field. Congrats to Emma. I was rooting for Lily but I knew Emma was out in the lead and she seemed destined to lock it. Congrats to her. Emma is a joy to watch.
Sally Field a favorite and welcome sight
Emma gave one of the best performances I’ve seen in a long while and it will be remembered that way over time.
Oh, okay. You liked Emma Stone so we'll all stop being mad.
@@sacremende Thanks for your huge sacrifice!
@@gabe2092 😂
Ron Jeremy said the same thing about stone 🪨 she actually acts like one
Ain’t nobody mad except no lifers on twitter
Emma Stone's two Oscars were absolutely deserved. In La La Land she gave a subtle and sweet performance (the scene in Audition (The Fools Who Dream) was spectacular and proved what an exceptional actress she is) and in Poor Things she gave an extremely original, wild and fearless performance. Which required her to be more physical and visceral. Her best performance, for sure. Wow! I'm so excited to see what Emily will give us in the future 💜
Emma's such a genuine personality in the acting industry. I truly believe she's been a breath of fresh air since she started getting the big roles ❤️💯
Yay for Emma!
She's so genuine. ❤
@@davy209 even if it had been the best performance?
Emma Stone's performance in Poor Things was incredible, captivating, hilarious and mesmerizing. I'm so glad that she won.
If you would have told me in 2009 that Wichita from Zombieland would be a 2 time Oscar winner for best actress, I would have said you were crazy. Congrats Emma.
The hug that Emma gave Sally, I teared instantly!
Great that Emma Stone got another Oscar!
But at the same time, I am heartbroken for Lily Gladstone.
It’s a blessing for her in disguise. She’s a great talent who doesn’t deserve the Oscar curse. She better get more opportunities though!
I'd be heartbroken for someone who wins for one acting job when no one's ever seen her in anything before. How do we even know if she was acting? You kind of need to see someone play two roles before you can tell if they can act.
@@jedijones Way to give yourself away. LIly Gladstone has been great in every role she's ever played.
Well deserved. Emma Stone’s Poor Things performance made La La Land look like child’s play in comparison
She constantly grows in her art❤ she knew after her first win she needs to work even harder.
Crazy that she was once in Superbad with a young Jonah Hill 😭😭😭
She’s come a long way lol
@@OscarOrtega13 Seriously! I think Jonah will have his Oscar win one day too. He's super versatile talent!
an iconic duo
What a beautifully gracious speech, 'it's not about me... it's all of us together." Well said Emma Stone!
still thinking about this! lily gave one HELL of a performance and could've easily won any other year, but my god do we blame it on timing cuz this is probably emma's best acting ever.
Mark Ruffalo was freaking the fuck out!!! Hes so lovely!
I expected Lily to win but at least she was a good sport about the loss and Emma was humble in her speech.
Hopefully the loss won't drive her to drink.
Lily Gladstone said in an interview that she build an instant friendship with Emma Stone and they both gave each other matching friendship rings and called it their “infinity stones”! The whole story is super cute and I believe that Lily’s reaction to Emma’s win was sincere.
They both have Stone in their last names.
I dont know if Carey was acting here, but she totally sold me a "Oh MF! Jessica Lange is praising ME!" Moment.
"It's about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts." I love that!!! Congratulations, Emma Stone!
And JUST when you thought that Emma Stone couldn't be more likeable......
I’m glad Emma won! I was hoping she would. Her performance was amazing! She deserved it!
If Lily Gladstone was white she probably would've won!!! But yet halle berry had to get naked to win a Oscar, just shows how racist Hollywood is
The part about her baby girl 😭
3:30 Here you KNOW that everyone there paid extra attention when Jessica Lange was about to speak haha
Such a commanding presence, absolutely gorgeous!
Had I been Carey Mulligan I wouldn't give a shit about the Oscar, bc Jessica Lange just told me I was deserving, that's about enough for a lifetime haha
It might be because she’s such a great actress, but I thought Lange’s words sounded the most sincere.
I would have been happy with Sandra, Emma, or Lily winning. Truly a great year for the best actress category!
So genuine and humble. Honorable. Impressed with her.
Proud of 2-time Oscar winner Emma Stone! She was crazy in Poor Things!
It's because Lily wasn't white
@@powwowcritic13It’s because Lily was really supporting.
@@powwowcritic13 Lily wasn't white, but Emma was lily-white. But did you notice a black woman won an acting award tonight too? Your theory seems off.
Instant tears the moment she said:
"...and most importantly, my daughter. Who is going to be 3 in 3 days, and has turned our lives Technicolor. I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl."
That was my favorite part too
Best part of her speech. Or any speech, for that matter. ❤
She deserves it.
What she did in Poor Things is unbelievable.

Aww, she's so sweet and genuine! Congratulations, Emma! This was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of performance and you so deserved this win!
Oscars got it right in this category. Lily’s performance was supporting. Carey Mulligan was superb!
Both of Emma's Oscars are for lead performance.
@@murther4906 Wrong, this is her first win as a lead.
I enjoyed her performance, but at the same time I never felt much emotion from it. I feel like this movie was more driven by its story than its acting.

It was logical that Emma stone was going to win, although unpredictable no matter how logical it sounded, it was also logical that Lily gladstone would win, I mean it was crazy.
Sandra was who i wanted to win, because her performance was spectacular and it appeared to be so incredibly demanding... but they were all so so good, ans Emma was a vision.
What a beautiful, genuine reaction. I'm happy she won. Also, side note, Sally Field is almost 80 years old. She looks amazing.
