  • This is a video showing how you can “repair” a Shaper Origin collet by replacing the collet and preserving the collet nut. That way you can save money and reduce waste.
You can buy replacements for your Shaper Origin collets here: www.ebay.com/i...

This has indeed happened to me but only on the Shaper Origin. I suspect some poor quality on the collet as in all my many years of router use this is the first time it has ever happened. Thanks for the tip.

The collet provided with the SO is supposed to be a Festool collet, which in my experience is high quality. But I agree that this has only happened for the SO for me too. Then again I use my SO much more than my other routers...

Ironically enough, I had this happen recently. I was carving hard maple, the machine was struggling to make the cut (probably my fault for cutting too deep), then the collet gave way and the bit wandered, which ruined the workpiece. I switched bits, changed settings, reduced depth, and BAM....a second workpiece ruined. Eventually, I finally calmed down, and determined the collet needed a good cleaning to remove dust build up. Long and frustrating story short, that residue was the culprit. Third attempt with a cleaned collet got the job done. No need to shell out cash for a new collet, when all was needed was some TLC

Sweet! It’s amazing how much cleaning can fix in general 🤣

Thank you for the collet info. I don't seam to be able to find replacement collets without the nut included. Do you mind telling us where such a replacement item can be purchased?

Newbie here. Thanks for this info. What size collet do we choose on the German site you linked?

Welcome to the Shaper Origin family. The different sizes are the shank sizes, so you need to select the collet sizes for the shank size you are using, ie the collet size that is worn out. Example: You have a collet for 1/4" bits so you need to select 6.35mm (1/4") replacement collet.

Don´t pull out the collet straight !
First you should give your collet the most possible angle to one side in the nut and then pull it out. Replace it in the same way with the collet in an angle to the nut and then a little push and it should snap in. If you pull straight you give the collet to much material stress. In bigger nut-systems like ER 16 + you mostly cant get them in or out if you dont make it with an angle push or pullout movement.
And another Tipp for other users..... dont buy cheap collets from China. That does not pay off. Mostly its crap and you wont have fun with them for long. You dont have to buy them from Shaper but use company with good quality tools. Your Shaper and the workpiece quality will be better....
