  • Watch CPKC trains bend with the Mighty Mississippi River between La Crescent, MN, and Marquette, IA.
Now part of the CPKC Marquette Subdivision, the section of track from La Crescent, MN, to Marquette, IA, snakes along the Mississippi River, creating endless dynamic shots.
Screaming flanges and modest speeds might make for long days in the cab, but outside, it’s fun to hear and see great railroading action.
This line has changed operators a lot in its history. Built by the Milwaukee Road and operated by Soo Line, I&M Rail Link, ICE, DME, and CP before rolling on as CPKC, the variety over the years has made it a popular segment of track to watch trains.

The steel decked bridge at Lansing is a treat to go over on a motorcycle. :)

Are they upgrading that Sub yet, with new rail, longer sidings, etc.? I have heard a lot of it is 35mph track. Thanks.

They’ve been doing a lot of ballast work. Seems like it’s seen a lot of MOW activity lately, but unsure about rail yet.

Are they getting more trains since merging with the KCS?

It seems that way. Sounded like they had two 255s today. That’s typically one every other day.
