I have the EXACT same foot shape and problem, mid foot width. You aren’t alone. Thank you for creating this video especially since I’m new to cycling. I have been dreading the sport simply because cycling shoes seem so narrow. All I have to do is look at a bicycle and the sides of my feet begin to ache. Thanks again for posting this video. It’s an enormous help!
Just wanted to add I too have wide mid foot, and I have struggled my whole life finding shoes that fit me. Been looking into cycling shoes and this helped. Thanks.
Man. I wish I found this video earlier, we have essentially the same foot measurements and shape. Been struggling finding a shoe that just *fits*. Got a pair of Shot 2’s off of Bike Closet, now I’m super happy with them. Big thanks to you.
Congratulations on 1k! Thanks for making this one! Waiting on a larger pair of shot 2s to come in. Your videos also helped me realize why my ski boot fit has been such a pain. Thanks again for putting this info out there keep up the great work!
I didn't realize that wide midfoots were a thing until I watched your other video. human variation continues to amaze me. I'm a wide forefoot person, so the lake wide have been perfect for me.
I'm so glad I found this video. Have been facing the same issue for years, and not just in cycling shoes. I found northwave okay. Put a pair of fizik's on lately and what a mistake, had to abandon the ride. I might try the SIDI. thanks.
I have the same 'extra meat' issue, and foot shape. I have similarly spent a mint on shoes. Bont's worked for me for a few years, but feet change over time and now they are excruciating after about 90 min. This video helped! I'm going to try them out as flex/expansion is probably all I can hope for. I guess after 20 years, it's back to Sidi. LOL
Excellent, I have same problem and also i solved it with Sidi Mega the previous model. The Sidi Are expensive but much more better !!! They also at those top models have interchangeable soles and that is very good solution also !!
Good video. I wear a New Balance 860 size 9EEEE (X-wide) running shoe. Both my Sidi Dominator and S-Pro Mega 43.5's fit well enough and my feet feel ok after a 2-3 hour ride. PS my foot circumference at the widest point (ball to ball) is 10.5" and would recommend the Mega's for anyone with a wide toe box. I've been using Sidi's since the early 90''s but now that other manufactures are starting to make actual wide sizes (and not just shoes that fit wide) I might try something new for my next pair.
Great video, thanks, currently on Lake's but tempting to switch. I have a width of around 110mm (left) and 105mm (right) with a length of around 260mm - 265mm (left) and 250mm - 255mm (right) - odd sized I know ;). The Sidi size chart I found states I should go for a EU 42,5 size for 26,4cm length. Based on your video, and assuming your max foot length is 270mm, the chart I'm looking at states you need a EU 43,5 size for 27 cm length. Are you saying you took 2 sizes bigger, i.e. EU 45,5 (which is linked with a 28,4 cm foot length)? Thank you for answering, this will greatly help in my search getting the best fit!
Thanks for the video. Never considered Sidi for some reason, but those look like it would be a good fit for me. I definitely have a wide forefoot, but also a “fatter” foot along with high arches. Even my very first Giro high volume mtb shoes weren’t voluminous enough with the middle strap barely catching the velcro closure. Only until 2 years ago I dealt with gout and some other ankle issues I found out about arch supports and it’s definitely helped fitting my normal width road shoes. So far the Giro lace up knit shoes have been the best fit, but in the beginning i had to pull over a fee times to make minor adjustments. Those sidis look almost exactly what I need to help my “golden arches” lol. Just subscribed!
Your suggestions of Sidi Shot 2 worked for me too. I have tried countless number of shoes, nothing comes close to Sidi shot 2 in terms of fit for my feet. Thank you so much.
@@addictcyclist exactly, I was putting off trying Sidi for a long time thinking it is only for Narrow feet. Your video changed my mind and I’m very glad it did.
Is sidi shot good for wide feet? From metararsal to metatarsal. I have pain at left foot especially outer side from my pinkie after longer ride. I am very stressed from this and dont enjoy riding with this
I always need more volume vertically. I have a weird pinky toe shape, and it rubs against the ceiling of the shoes, because of that I always have to remove the soles of the shoes lol. Maybe next time I should go for wide size shoes, not sure that might help.
Hi there. Same problem for me. My feet are exactly your width, with the same wider section right behind the metatarsal on each foot. I've tried: Bont (tubs also don't work for me), Specialized S-Works wide, Lake wide (CX238, 332, even 403... carbon molded tub problem again), and settled on Shimano SPhyre wide. However, they worked great... until I started to do 3+ hour rides, often in warm weather. Then I would experience pretty bad pain (likely due to circulation issues) on both feet, right behind the metatarsal area, on the outside. So much so that I then have to really loosen each shoe to re-establish circulation. I have ordered a pair of Sidi Shot 2's and also a pair of Fizik Vento wide. The Vento's have a very wide last/base, similar to the Lake's; they feel like slippers at first wear. My concern with them is that they will cinch at an angle across my foot from that wide base (as opposed to "around" my foot, if that makes any sense), similar to the Lake's, and eventually also cause the dead feet effect (similar to the Lake's). But the Shot 2's feel pretty tight, but with promise. My QUESTION: Now that you have had the Sidi Shot 2's for a longer time, are you still 100% happy with them? I want to mount some cleats and go for it, but thought of checking in first. Cheers. (and genuinely thanks for this video, it seems to address exactly my issue)
Hey! Quite a journey like mine. I love the shot 2 and won’t consider anything else but paired with Solestar Kontrol insoles. Only the best. The Sidi have good equal pressure across my foot being the retention mechanism is central and brings the upper material to your foot vs a slipper style shoe like Shimano and fizik where your foot is already forcing the uppers out. Give solestar a go as well, use addictcyclist20off code. Just a courtesy code, i an not affiliated. 6 week money back trial
I’ve got similar size length, and similar width possibly slightly wider on one foot. Have a few pairs of lakes, but yes they’re a bit slopppy around the hill. Also notice my cx403 the boa loosens slightly on both feet when riding which I possibly a boa issue. I tried the sidi shot when they first came out, they definitely felt wider and comfy but I sent them back. Since been riding the commute bike with an older pair of sidi MTB shoes but a mega fit, the material definitely comforms to your foot nicely over time. Wish I’d kept the shots. I’ll order a pair and see how they fair. Great videos, information is key I believe.
@@addictcyclist from what I remember I was either the 44.5 or 45 was when they were first released. Based on the shoe chart about 277-280mm. Always a struggle to find a good shoe. I’ve got so many pairs. I tried the Spanish custom brand Luck shoes as well. But the heel hold on my old sidi MTB shoes is great. I’ve done 6 hr gravel rides without discomfort. The lakes, got a few pairs, the bathtub design on the 403 actually I find is too stiff. My Bont helix, another good shoe and heel hold, but even in wide I just find I can’t mild them wide enough to be comfortable. The outer edge eventually becomes uncomfortable on the foot. I appreciate people will say the foot may overlap the edge of the sidi shoe sole, but it’s minimal. And the extra material that conforms to the foot allows for the foot to expand under continual compression. Rather than pressing agains the solid ridged carbon. Tried previous sworks shoes and older disillusioned before the wide version - not a chance!! Haha.
Sounds like it! I’ve also got a factor but the 02 vam great bike. The Ostro is quite an amazing ride, comfy but feels quick. Would like to buy the Hanzo but can’t warrant 2 TT bikes. 😂
I have a weird foot that doesn’t sit inside shoes correctly due to a broken ankle that was improperly set. Think of a car parked crooked in a parking space. 😂. I am running into an issue with Lakes where the anterior tibial tendon hits the “bracket” where the wires hook. It’s a painful impingement issue. It doesn’t look like the Sidi has a bracket that would interfere with the anterior tibial tendon. Has this been your experience?
Hi, same issue here, 113mm wide because of the “extra meat”. Sidi is my last hope, the Trace 2 Mega for SPD. Tried NW Origin Plus 2 wide, some Giro, Luck Black Pro MTB wide from Spain, Shimano XC300 wide, having a Lake MX177 wide and a cheap Specialized Sport MTB. The Lake is the widest I have tried but it is very uncomfortable, after 1 hour I have strong pain even with Solestar insole. Still the cheap Specialized is the comfiest but worn out already and discontinued. The Recon is narrower unfortunately. So, I hope the Sidi will solve this nightmare :)
Thanks for the vids. I got meaty feet too. Hot spot on outer left mid foot since beginning. Been riding on on specialized and Shimano wide, but still haven't quite found 'the one'. Your rc902 vid saved me quite a bit of time. I'm now interested in the sidi shot 2 and the lake cx241. Can you comment on how they compare? Did you need the wide version of cx241 or was regular enough? The shot 2 doesn't seem to come in wide, so you're sticking to the regular and it's been fine?
Cx241 is for a casual cyclist. Comfortable and conforms to foot well. Under power the foot squirms around due to the upper construction. Real bad. Basically unstable. The carbon sole is a flexy spring board and feels bouncy due to the sole not being stiff. The shot 2 were a surprise to me. They are high volume, way more high volume than Shimano in wide. And the center dials bring the material to your foot and wrap it instead of Shimano style slippers that constrict the foot. I got the 241 I’m wide but it was almost too wide based on the upper netting wrap and holstering effect. I highly recommend Solestar as well. 6 week trial and can use my discount code addictcyclist20off to try.
Have you dealt with neuromas at all because of your foot? I’m dealing with a Morton’s Neuroma between right foot toes 2/3, and struggling to find the right shoe
I have been struggling with the exact same issue and never put together they my foot isn't actually "wide" in the traditional sense. Do you have any idea if there is a MTB equivalent of the shot 2? Do you think from looking at it that's the tiger 2 is exactly that? Thanks for making this video! It at least gives me more direction in what to start looking for
Hello, I have the same foot shape and was considering lake brand mx 219 / 238 / 242 since they are the widest as per lake's sizing chart. What do you recommend? I'm new to cycling and have bought the specialized recon 1.0 shoes but I find them too narrow and painful to wear on the outer side of my feet.
Lake shoes need heel retention so find one with moldable heels. I got away from Lake and use Sidi shot 2 with best fit for my foot shape. Lake was too wide in the toe box for me. I needed more play in the mid foot and Sidi with the top closure mechanism working best and 2 years now with zero issues
@@addictcyclist thanks for the reply and valuable information. The Sidi shot 2 shoes are for road cycling and the shoes I'm searching for are for indoor cycling (SPD cleats). Are there any Sidi shoes with SPD cleats similar to the Shot 2?
Good afternoon, thanks again for the answer under the previous video!!! What size did the sidi shot2 fit you in the end? I measured the width of my foot after this video and it is 12cm with a leg length of 28, I think the proportions are the same as yours ... can you advise what size to start with? I measured sixty 44.5 and they were free for me, and shot 2 is not possible to measure before buying, thank you.
Hi, I just found your channel as I'm searching for a wide shoe for indoor cycling. I have a wide foot and a painful bunion on one foot. The shoes I have now are too narrow in the toe box and are painful when I ride. Any suggestions on what shoe works great for women with wide feet. Any recommendation are appreciated. Thank you.
I have the same shape and about 5mm extra in length and width and use Lake CX238. They fixed my hotspot issues, but the boa system stretches/reopens during use and the heel won't hold my heel.
@@addictcyclist Exactly. I am looking into a new shoe for that reason. My feet are effectively in two different cleat positions and I always hold back when sprinting
Perhaps but this synthetic material is really hard to stretch. I have tried other shoes with shoe stretcher. Leather shoes, that will totally work. Also a lot of cycling shoes have extended heel cups that extend into midfoot like the bont, s works torch and other types of bathtub soles.
hey, I'm wondering if you've tried the shimano rx8 and if so, how it compares with the shot 2 or other shimano rc9 or rc901 (not 902). i have the rx8 and i think it's perfect for me. but curious to get your thoughts.
Seems like a lot here have the same foot shape as the one in the video. I can tell you that it is not normal, and is the result of using narrow shoe, probably for a very long time. You can clearly see on the drawings that his big toe is pointing outwards, which is causing bunions at the big toe joint. Wouldn't be suprised if some here who have the same foot shape as him also suffers (or will do) of plantar fasciitis. The correct way to fix this would be to use wider shoes (go one size up in shoes), and also start correcting your toe position using toe spacers. Walking barefoot is also recomended.
You are correct with a life in dress shoes. From kindergarten to now. Private school and business professional. I did have the midfoot issue all my life as well and I related to my toes. I could not wear the cool adidas or narrow puma sneakers in my youth. I wear toe spreaders and walk barefoot in my house at all times.
I have narrow feet and flat feet. My LBS shop does custom insoles through Retul, which I’m going to take advantage of in the Spring. Any recommendations for narrow feet?

And the center dials bring the material to your foot and wrap it instead of Shimano style slippers that constrict the foot. I got the 241 I’m wide but it was almost too wide based on the upper netting wrap and holstering effect. I highly recommend Solestar as well. 6 week trial and can use my discount code addictcyclist20off to try.
@@addictcyclist are you using the same sizing on the shot 2 as the Shimano? I read review they're a tad small
@@trends-friend Shimano I was 45 and Sidi 45.5
How much have you spent on cycling shoes?
Have you dealt with neuromas at all because of your foot? I’m dealing with a Morton’s Neuroma between right foot toes 2/3, and struggling to find the right shoe
Hey no that’s not something I had to deal with. Try solester insoles , Kontrol model. Would a metatarsal pad help it? Message me on Instagram.
I have been struggling with the exact same issue and never put together they my foot isn't actually "wide" in the traditional sense.
Do you have any idea if there is a MTB equivalent of the shot 2? Do you think from looking at it that's the tiger 2 is exactly that?
Thanks for making this video! It at least gives me more direction in what to start looking for
Welcome to the club! I use the previous version Tiger 2 and my feel are extremely happy!
Sidi tiger 2
Good afternoon, thanks again for the answer under the previous video!!! What size did the sidi shot2 fit you in the end? I measured the width of my foot after this video and it is 12cm with a leg length of 28, I think the proportions are the same as yours ... can you advise what size to start with? I measured sixty 44.5 and they were free for me, and shot 2 is not possible to measure before buying, thank you.
45.5
Thanks!!!
My foot measurements are almost identical in length. 267-270. I am narrower 105-106. What size is that shoe? is that SIDI 43 shoe?
I wear 45.5
@@addictcyclist Thank you. This video was very very helpful to me. I had the wire 2, I did not the shot was a little wider.
Thank you.
Hello, for a foot with bunions, no better option than lake 242.

@@addictcyclist Thank you for the fast reply and sending the link. Much appreciated. Hopefully these will fit well and make my feet happy.
I have the same shape and about 5mm extra in length and width and use Lake CX238. They fixed my hotspot issues, but the boa system stretches/reopens during use and the heel won't hold my heel.
238 were a no go for me. Great shoe, zero heel security.
@@addictcyclist Exactly. I am looking into a new shoe for that reason. My feet are effectively in two different cleat positions and I always hold back when sprinting
Perhaps for those with a less of a budget can taking their shoes to a shoe shop and have them do targeted stretching
Hey! Sidi Wire 2, Shimano Sphyre, s works torch
Thank you!
Are They made in a gravel version ?
Look at the Sidi tiger 2, mtb shoe. They do make a gravel version but I would stick with same overall upper design and heel cup.

@@addictcyclist thanks mate ! And
Thanks for Quick answer! 😉👍
I am wearing Shimano mens size 44 wide that are too narrow. The insoles are 10cms wide...I also have the same ' meat issue " that you have.My barefeet measure about 11cm wide and 27.2cm long..Will Sidis work for me? I tried on Sidi dragon 4 mega size 44 and my heel slipped a bit and also not knowing about the meat issue..Your help would be greatly appreciated..There are limited shoe stores near me 25 miles north of Milwaukee Wi that carry wide cycling shoes.
Get Sidi shot 2 a s do t look back! The way that shoe is constructed it seems to accommodate name food shapes
I also have this width (110mm) - did the Sidi Shot 2 fit and solve your problems?
@@PieterK123 I tried on in a local store 2 different Sidi mega shoes (not the shot 2 though) size 44 and found out that they are not actually wide in what I would call wide..I took the " last or insert " out of the shoe of a Sidi Dragon mega size 44 and my foot hung over the right side...That shoe felt so big on me also..If you have fat feet or toes and need room but not width than Sidi might work.I really wanted Sidi's because of their Italian ties.Since then I am still wearing my too narrow Shimanos..I am looking at Lakes in a wide size 45 is what 2 people told me would fit.Lake has a size chart, but you must measure your feet wearing cycling socks and then add 5mm to the length.I was told to add 7mm which puts me in a 45 I hope........Hope this helps.....
@@deg050607 Definitely, many thanks! Lake CX242 seems very wide and comfortable as well (despite the bulkier looks). I feel my (middlefoot) width is too big for Sidi, mega + shot 2, but will also try these in a local store, thanks for your reply!
@@PieterK123 Let me know what you end up with please.I have no Lake store within 100 miles of me 25 miles north of Milwaukee Wi.Where are you located?
a bit late here, how does this compare to the lake cx241? currently choosing between this and cx242 which is almost as same as 241. huge thanks!
Lake is by far the most comfortable shoe but the carbon sole on the 241,242 is like a spring board. Floppy. I am sold on Sidi. Best I have tried.
Hi, have you tried Sidi mega shoes? These sidis here dont go above 48.. im prob EU 49 -50 3e width
Never tried mega since I got along with the shot 2

@@addictcyclist thank you! will order right now. i'm the same length as you. do you have 44.5?
I have 45.5 but 45 would also work.
@@addictcyclist roger dodger thanks for the help!
44.5 is perfect width especially the shape you mentioned but that arch is a little too much. Do I gotta look into some sorta insert or a different shoe
What is your size in SIDI sizing chart? which is wider shot1 vs shot 2?
It puts me at 45. I went with 45.5 and it’s perfect. I have only wore shot 2, version 1 and 2.
We have the same foot length. I am using sidi shot 1 size 44. Which SIDI shot version has more toe box space?
@@RKIchubs what I do since each shoe is a little different fit, I order 2 sizes in the same shoe, stick my foot in and see what’s better. When I tried bont, I ordered 4 sizes haha
The Giro cadet shoe would have also solved your problem for around $120. That's not to say these sidis arent beautiful. Congrats on solving your issue.
Thanks!
Dude, you have wide toe box. You just got yourself a mangled foot and bunions. The bump at the base of your first toe is a proof of that. Same with the smallest one. If you trace your bones the toe should continue in that direction. You have it tucked into the middle of the foot :)
Your toes would spread out if you haven't been forming them for years like in chinese foot wrapping.
I got mis-shaped feet bro
@@addictcyclist Kinda know your problem. I have feet like over 11 cm wide and 26,5 cm long, yet still with high arch and whatnot. What is your opinion about these shoes after a year? Still OK?
How is the sizing of the shot 2 as compared to Shimano?
Runs a half size smaller in length but way more volume due to its design. Size up half size over Shimano. Best shoe I ever owned.
Hi mate. Can you recommend SIDI Alba 2 for wide feet?
What is your shoe size?
Dress shoe 10.5 US, 11 US sneaker, 45.5 EU cycling shoes
what is your shoe size in sidi sizing chart? thanks
I am 115mm in the width so Lake wide was the only solution.
At 115mm across the metatarsals, yes not too many, if any other shoe can accommodate.
This is super info! Thanks a lot for sharing. Although its till damn hard to pick the right. You really have no way of knowing before you've ridden them x km 😀
I have tried them all! Besides Northwave, Rapha, Pearl Izumi.
