I too DNFed Queen of the Tearling, twice actually. It felt so slow and borning and I didn't care. I got only about 100 pages in with both DNF instances.
I hope it works for me. And I loved A River Enchanted but then it kinda felt like a coherent version of Riddle Master of Hed?! 🤣 And I remembered you had a video trying to read Patricia McKillip and it wasn’t your cup of tea.
Daggerspell.... Wow that is a blast from the past😅. I have read it 20 years ago, finished it, and never read any other book by the author. Now i remember why😂
You know, I am sorry that Daggerspell was such a miss for you... but at least we got this entertaining rant out of it, so silver linings? hahaha hope it was cathartic 😂 Also so nervous to start The Jasmine Throne myself, because we have veryyyy similar preferences and I already wasn't the biggest fan of Suri's writing in her other duology so eeek... Hope you have less duds next year!
With you on Daggerspell. I read it about 10 years ago and HATED it. I persevered for most of the book thinking that it must get better as it is so beloved, but finally gave up at about 90%. Those are hours of my life i will never get back 😂..such a bad book!!
I also DNFed Queen of the Tearling awhile back too and remember it being annoyingly bland. Re: Daggerspell, it's always a bad sign when youre rewriting the book in your head 🥴
That’s a good idea to do this instead of a “worst of” list!
Ughhhhhhh Daggerspell 😭 the ongoing popularity of that series continues to baffle me
A true mystery for the ages😂

For Guy Gavriel Kay, i agree Tigana is a slog, but his recent stuff is much easier. My intro to him was A Brightness Long Ago, which i loved.
Oh no! I have that Jo Walton book on my tbr shelf! I love a good Arthurian legend retelling too and find that they are either wildly good or horrible.
Yeah there isn’t a lot of in between for Arthurian retellings
Maybe it will work better for you than it did for me

Now that you mention it I can see the comparison

I probably should have DNF'ed A Botanical Daughter but for some reason finished it. Contained the weirdest sex scene I have ever read in my life.
😳

I’m impressed you made it that far😂
@@badgerreads me too, to be honest 😆. I'm better at dnfing these days so would definitely have given up sooner!

Truly 😬
