If you are experiencing poor performance while playing Remote Play on your iPad Pro, it is likely that you will also have a similar experience with PS Portal. This is mainly because the quality of your gaming experience depends on the speed and stability of your internet connection. If your experience is not good on your phone, it indicates that your internet speed is not sufficient.

Given the continued success of the switch and the the lack of a psp/vita replacement, it's baffling to me to make such a limited device. Between the system and proprietary headsets you're looking at the price of a diskless ps5. A new Sony handheld system with remote play built in would be amazing. Portal might do ok, but I see this as a huge missed opportunity.
Well you gotta remember the competition. The switch has dominated the handheld market. You can say "why dont they just make a more powerful handheld than nintendo" Because the steam deck exists. So they choose a safe bet. Which is a pure remote streaming device that can be added on the ps5. And something people are not realizing is that this handheld is the blueprint for something bigger. They just recently announced that you will be able to stream your ps5 games with internet only. Im pretty sure the playstation portal is gonna be dedicated to that.
I personally think the reason why Sony didn't attempt to make a second psp or vita is because it didn't really work, especially the vita look at what a fail that was for Sony and the psp didn't really have that many games in its lifetime that was a game worth buying
I pre-order me one because I really don't be home like that i only be home long enough to get what I need and back out the door i go so this would be something I could really use
I think I will get one as I do enjoy playing my Switch anywhere I want. I hate having to drag my Ps5 from the living room to the bedroom. But should I pick up a Portal 1st n then a Steam deck. 🤔
Ill def be impulse buying this if my budget allows. Able to play from bed or the toilet is amazing and now have the cumbersome laptop setup is amazing.
@greeny1080 Bigger screen, can stream Gamepass and my PC, can emulate older systems, has a real dual sense with actual size analog sticks, and has bluetooth for any audio device l please. Yup, it stomps a mudhole in that $200 (+$150) proprietary E waste lol
@Airplanetyson Not at all. It has a cover that doubles as a stand, and i just have it in my lap. I sit/lay in the same positions I do as when I play on my Steamdeck and Switch. But even if I didn't have a tablet, I would but something like the Abxylute first. Costs $200, has bluetooth, and can do all the usual android stuff
@@levisingleton4921 right, but unlike the switch (which is the best of both worlds) you have to sit in a fixed position so that the tablet doesn’t fall over or face the way that it’s propped on its stand. This you can play virtually in any and every position from laying down, to sitting, to standing. You don’t have to grab a control and a screen and readjust yourself if that makes sense. You can just have them all in one. Like the switch but a better gaming selection. I like my switch but I cannot play games like Madden, or Day Z on it.
The thing is, you don't need a dedicated remote play device to even do remote play. Phones, tablets, and laptops (as you mentioned in the video) suffice. This thing is $200, and if you already one of the aforementioned devices, all you really need is a telescopic Bluetooth controller and that will save you a ton of money. Sony should've just made a PS5 style telescopic Bluetooth controller for phones and tablets that has DualSense, then release an app for remote play (if they haven't already). I see this thing dropping in price in about a month or so, then end up in the clearance section of stores by early 2024. I'd rather get a Steam Deck (which I already have) and play the PlayStation exclusives ported to PC natively.
lack of dual sense features and the hassle of getting all your devices to form like Voltron is whats holding current remote play back, this assceory will find decent success imo
When I first heard about it I guessed that it would be some sort of remote play device and not a true handheld, what I got wrong was thinking that it would support PS Plus Premium streaming, and would have Bluetooth connectivity, what I certainly didn't expect some sort of bollocks proprietary wireless system that wants me to spend another £150 - £200 on headphones or ear buds if I didn't want a wired solution. This has fucked Sony in the arse before and they still haven't learned the lesson, it's what cost them dominating the handheld market in the past. I use Chiaki on my Steam Deck but when I heard it connects directly to the PS5 I thought that was smart, it's a pity they didn't stick with intelligent decisions after that as I would've took a punt on it had been a bit more user friendly and less egregious, there is no way I'm going to spend money on it for that price with it's obvious limitations. For the money you can buy a 64MB Steam Deck and a SSD upgrade and have a far more capable handheld. On the plus side if you just show a bit of patience you will get one cheap because it will fail to sell what Sony hopes it will, it's dead in the water before it has been released, and as a Sony fan it's a fucking shame they fallen into the same trap again, when Sony get it right they get it right huge, but when they get it wrong it's a shit sandwich with a glass of piss to wash it down.
@@frank234561 Lets be real here that is not the reason why, it's delay that isn't noticeable unless you have really crappy connectivity or crappy devices, a delay that hasn't stopped them making Bluetooth devices for PlayStation in the past, and a delay in all my time using Bluetooth audio devices for gaming I've never noticed once to say nothing of the fact that most gaming Bluetooth devices these days target 20 milliseconds. It's a stupid move and it's only omitted to push harder for you to spend more money on proprietary accessories, it's a bad look by any metric especially as that being the reason for its omission is obvious. Hilarious fun fact, my audio choice for my Steam Deck is Sony WF-C500 earbuds that wont be compatible with the Portal and are not gaming specific and I've had no latency issues with them at all, of course it's no more than a couple of feet away from my earbuds so range issues are definitely out of the equation as they would be for the Portal. Like I said with just a little bit more common sense and the fact they have a lot of past experience they could've tied up the market a long time ago, and for the life of me I just don't understand how they keep making the same obvious past mistakes.
Well, let's just say if you happen to spill some expired formaldehyde on a live rat next to a leaky car battery make sure you clean it up quickly or hire a proffesional cleaning service to deal with it. Don't under any circumstance get drunk and do a Ouija board. That'll only make things worse.
We are buying console only to play third person single player storydriven adventures and RPGs exclusive on the biggest and the best possible TV we can afford. No compromise with the next gen technology in latest TVs what is this joke
Honestly the only games that work good on remote play are visual novels which require very little input. That being said, I’m considering getting one as that is my favorite genre of game. I use remote play on my phone sometimes and my internet is hit or miss. Sometimes it’s flawless and other times it won’t work.
The biggest thing that people whine about is Bluetooth. However, they don't realize or seem to forget the latency that Bluetooth has when gaming online. Especially on WiFi. That is why it doesnt have Bluetooth. Wired is superior to Bluetooth in this situation.
crazy comments here if you read up on it and don't like it don't buy it have to say though if you are trying to pre order it there gone already personal for me its a win as my wife and kids control the Tv lol
I think that the same wifi as the PS5 is optimal conditions and Sony seems to be pitching it to households who share a TV but currently remote play can work on two different wifi signals so there’s no reason why the Portal won’t either.
A lot of consumer press straight up told that lie. I was iffy at first that it might actually be right, but it's on official Ps Portal page. "While your home Wi-Fi network represents a great option to use PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player because you have control over the quality of your own home Wi-Fi, it is not required. " I'm 100% sure all of the liars would just pin it on "Sony's fault, they were unclear". What ACTUALLY must have happened, is these people confusing themselves, who just call an INTERNET CONNECTION "wi-fi", because they only think the wi-fi technology as "the setting that makes internet go up". So when a Sony rep says "you can do this on your home wi-fi netowrk", they drooled a little drool out of their mouth and rolled with it.
Kids these days gosh. Complaining their parents dont understand threm or do not get what they want. But then themselves are the one who also complained about this when they dont get what the elders or dads want
Honestly the fact that this is only a streaming tablet for 200 dollars that needs a 300 dollar system and good wifi in your home and outside to play it, it seems a bit too redundant for too much money, unless of course it can also run some smaller games natively without wifi then its not that bad imo
@@hawkeyemihawkgettingmoneylord If you have a phone, tablet, or laptop and you use them with your dual sense controller you don't need it, the only real advantage it has is that it connects directly to the PS5, the question then becomes one of range, namely how does it perform if you move into another part of the house, and secondly does it perform well enough to justify dropping £200 on it over your current solution. Add to that do you want to spend another £150 to £200 on a headset or earbuds if you don't want to use wired audio. If you currently don't have a remote solution and are happy using wired audio it could be a potential buy, but that is such a small target customer focus. I used to use my laptop or my tablet and now I use Chiaki on my Steam Deck it's more than good enough and hilariously I use Sony WF-C500 Bluetooth earbuds with it, Sony earbuds that wont work on the PlayStation Portal because it has no Bluetooth connectivity and a proprietary wireless system that makes them incompatible, along with my PS Pulse headset specifically designed for my PlayStation.
My biggest question is why to get this if there is a steam deck that does this and way more? Yes it costs 150 - 200€ more but i can do a lot more with it. I stream my ps console when i am at home and i play my steam library and emulators while i travel.
The steam deck is not designed with remote play in mind. Ive read of its subpar remote play capability. I have a flagship android phone with a razer kishi with 400mb internet, but the experience is not always ideal.
Because this device is designed for remote play and works better. You get the full Dualsense Support, less lags and futue updates. When you only want to stream your PS5 games, than you don‘t need the steamdeck.
I have a steam deck and can confirm that using chiaki for remote play is not the greatest experience...so I'd still have my SD for emudeck and other games....but the portal would be amazing for being able to play PlayStation exclusives thru remote play.
@@ricoxkiller I've got a Steam Deck and it's excellent for remote play any issues I've had were always connectivity issues, the only advantage of the Portal is that connects directly to the PS5, which is fine if your in the house but it will be as good or bad as any other solution if you're out and about. It's a £200 meme and it's not even out yet, personally I like the look of it but I would never spend £200 on it plus if I don't want to use a wired headset I have to spend another £150 to £200, it will sell but no where near what Sony think or hopes, if you really want one I would wait you will get them cheap as chips when it inevitably fails. What's really sad is that Sony could've cornered the handheld market years ago if they'd abandoned the practice of introducing over priced proprietary accessories like UMD's and memory cards and backed their product properly, I still have my original OLED Vita and I love it and it's a shame what happened to it because of stupid greedy decisions, this device has the same flaws. I find it worrying that not only did some one think it was a good idea but that a lot of other people agreed and then to not give it Bluetooth but lock to a another proprietary system is just the idiocy topping on the stupidity cake.
@@MarxasThomas so you have to have your ps5 in standby mode before you leave the house? Then u can turn it on via portal? Can you only turn it back into standby mode via portal? If so that’s shit
It's exactly what I think it is; it's an expensive tablet with two halves of a DualSense controller fused to both sides that will inevitably face confusion and frustration from parents and grandparents who may not understand what the product is. It appeals only to families who are able to afford both the PlayStation Portal and the PlayStation 5 and at the point you really have to wonder why they don't just buy their kid(s) a TV for their room instead. Kids will be annoyed and frustrated at the fact that the stupid thing can't function without an active and sufficiently speedy and high bandwidth internet connection. This thing is stupid and so are the proprietary earbuds and headsets that go along with it. I'm baffled that Sony is really trying to sell earbuds that are both more expensive and less useful than Apple's AirPods.
Every PS5 owner should have a DualSense wireless controller... and a DualSense wireless controller could connect to any mobile device/tablets/PC... why not just use the remote play app with the DualSense wireless controller??

I would imagine playing assassins creed mirage and odyssey on this thing offline if that only was an option
If this thing worked with Cloud Gaming, it would be worth the cost but it has no 5G compatibility and no cloud at all.......
You can say "why dont they just make a more powerful handheld than nintendo"
Because the steam deck exists.
Where is the touch pad? Most games I play use it to open menus or inventories so how is that gonna work?
Totally agree 👍
I personally think the reason why Sony didn't attempt to make a second psp or vita is because it didn't really work, especially the vita look at what a fail that was for Sony and the psp didn't really have that many games in its lifetime that was a game worth buying
Can’t wait to play Days Gone on this
i'm a headphone/earbuds guy... it's ridiculous that you can't even use SONY wireless earbuds/headphones to this.
Needs an Otterbox or something. Wanting to buy one for a kid, but he’d break it without a protective case.
I pre-order me one because I really don't be home like that i only be home long enough to get what I need and back out the door i go so this would be something I could really use
Have they mentioned stick drift issue being fixed ?
Same, same. And same.
I just pre ordered it!!! I aint hating
What happened (down stairs)
Day 1 for me. Playng my PS5 in bed...yes please.
It’s a divorce saver. I can sit in the lounge whilst the wife watches boring ass shows.
It’s called the dad portal lol if u don’t have kids u wouldn’t understand
But if you were to crank it to 11… it’d be one better innit?!
you can use your phones hotspot for online gaming at work
Will there be any game cartridges for the PlayStation portal
no
Bro what happened downstairs!? :D
All I need to know is if connection ia good.
So are you able to play for example warzone online in a different house connected to wifi…?
I think I will get one as I do enjoy playing my Switch anywhere I want. I hate having to drag my Ps5 from the living room to the bedroom. But should I pick up a Portal 1st n then a Steam deck. 🤔
Ill def be impulse buying this if my budget allows. Able to play from bed or the toilet is amazing and now have the cumbersome laptop setup is amazing.
Do you think the experience of this would be better compared to streaming on an ipad or steam deck
My tablet plus dual sense is a far superior option to this.....
Pretty bold statement considering you haven't even used the Portal yet.
@greeny1080 Bigger screen, can stream Gamepass and my PC, can emulate older systems, has a real dual sense with actual size analog sticks, and has bluetooth for any audio device l please. Yup, it stomps a mudhole in that $200 (+$150) proprietary E waste lol
Yeah, but you have to prop your tablet and then sit somewhere to face it. With this I can sit/lay anywhere and get comfy and play.
But can you play portal 1/2 on it?😊
Would this work with any Public WiFi? And also your Mobile Data?
It would, but on Sonys site they stated to have okay performance you want to have at least 15mbps
please do a video of downstairs
If this were at least $150 it'd be fine
$100-130 ish i say. $200 is half the price of a ps5 digital
Remote play user as well, but this product is very questionable choice. Why no Bluetooth. My expensive wh1000xm4 is worth noting for this product.
What an idiotic statement.
Bluetooth audio over wifi for gaming has a delay. That's why it isn't included.
I have to ask, what’s this so called “incident” that happened downstairs?👀
Well, let's just say if you happen to spill some expired formaldehyde on a live rat next to a leaky car battery make sure you clean it up quickly or hire a proffesional cleaning service to deal with it. Don't under any circumstance get drunk and do a Ouija board. That'll only make things worse.
We are buying console only to play third person single player storydriven adventures and RPGs exclusive on the biggest and the best possible TV we can afford. No compromise with the next gen technology in latest TVs what is this joke
Can I bring this outside my household and play with it in the car ? For long car rides or I have stay in house ?
As long as you have stable wifi you should be able to take it wherever you like ..
What happened Downstairs ????😂
Real question is why is it 1080p @ 60 fps and not 4k @ 120???
Battery life. The answer is always battery life.
Overkill. 1080p60 is enough. Especially the price needs to be palatable
Do you see how big the screen is? Lol
Fami
It’s REMOTE play
Because it‘s a 8 inch screen, you don‘t need 4k 120 fps.
My Switch OLED lasts 6hrs
Honestly the only games that work good on remote play are visual novels which require very little input. That being said, I’m considering getting one as that is my favorite genre of game. I use remote play on my phone sometimes and my internet is hit or miss. Sometimes it’s flawless and other times it won’t work.
Plenty of games work great through remote play. Your setup sucks.
@@kennymccormick8295 lmao you’re so angry over remote play.
Can't use your aux earbuds I don't think
The biggest thing that people whine about is Bluetooth. However, they don't realize or seem to forget the latency that Bluetooth has when gaming online. Especially on WiFi. That is why it doesnt have Bluetooth. Wired is superior to Bluetooth in this situation.
But it's not wired...
@@13THPR0PH37The portal has 3mm jack port
crazy comments here if you read up on it and don't like it don't buy it have to say though if you are trying to pre order it there gone already personal for me its a win as my wife and kids control the Tv lol
I’m getting this as well
I thought it had to be on the same wifi as the ps5 so u couldn't remote play when u use a different wifi... That's what I heard.
I'm 100% sure all of the liars would just pin it on "Sony's fault, they were unclear".

The remote play app is free so why buy this????
Because it's better
Kids these days gosh.
Complaining their parents dont understand threm or do not get what they want.
But then themselves are the one who also complained about this when they dont get what the elders or dads want
Should have been oled and android based
Honestly the fact that this is only a streaming tablet for 200 dollars that needs a 300 dollar system and good wifi in your home and outside to play it, it seems a bit too redundant for too much money, unless of course it can also run some smaller games natively without wifi then its not that bad imo
Do you have a ps5?
If you already have a ps5 this is the best handheld for you.
@@hawkeyemihawkgettingmoneylord 100%. They probably aren't going to make an actual portable. This is what works best with the ecosystem they want.
@@albertoolmeda5085 I use Chiaki and it's always been as good as any other device I've used if the connectivity is good enough.

@@jassy4027yeah that horrible leave my PS5 on standby mode for it to work is stupid

The performance is lack luster plus it ties up my phone.
@@Airplanetyson If you are experiencing poor performance while playing Remote Play on your phone, it is likely that you will also have a similar experience with PS Portal.
