Toyota is the most “American” made vehicle there is. Just about the only thing that is NOT made in America is the electronics. I worked at the Tundra plant in San Antonio and the vehicle started out as a roll of sheet metal in the morning and rolled out as a complete truck by the end of shift. We had 23 suppliers on “campus” who supplied everything except the electronics and the frame was made in Mexico. Toyota has more plants in the US than Chevy, Ford and Chrysler combined. That’s the failure of the American automaker not keeping up with the demand of changing vehicles. The US automaker has resisted changing cars since the 60’s. Even though Americans were buying economy smaller cars, American automakers were making the biggest cars on the road.
I'm 67 years old, had a 2022 Ford Maverick. Hate the computercrap. But I have a 1970 Mercury Montego 2 door with a V-8 engine 351 Cleveland. I love it more than the Maverick. Be safe my friend! Hope you had a great Christmas. Live long and healthy!🙏
I’m 39 and I’ll ever buy a new car. Cars are just money pits and the more advanced they are the more the mechanic bill will be. Keep it simple and it will keep repairs cheap and you’ll be happier.
@@boogerdawson25boogerdawson61 They are less convenient to work on, but a newish car today will last 200-300k miles with basic maintenance. 30 years ago a car over 100k was on its last legs, luck to break 120k. Go back another 30 and it would last half as long.
I briefly worked for Tesla back in late 2020. The cars are all built at the Fremont CA plant and I was on the model S/X line. The cars goes down the line and get assembled with multiple parts that are all made in Mexico, Germany, and China.

I hope we all know that it doesn't matter who is in the 'top job' because this is a systemic problem -- greed. We have allowed many of our economic sectors, to take advantage of the American people. It's disgusting and frightening for the future of our country. My husband and I will be retiring in the next two years in another country. Yup and its junk made in china assembled in china or elsewhere. If you ask me cars should be made in new mexico. Blows my mind these people go with the old mexico they need to zoom im their map and realise theres a new mexico now
You do realize that the largest car manufacturing plant in the US is Tesla, right?? No Tesla’s made in China are imported into the US, most are sold in…China
Too bad Nissan looks to be in real trouble. Their cvt cars are terrible but their trucks are pretty good and they’re the only ones making a naturally aspirated V6 midsize.
Yeah yeah woth direct injection only count me out. These idiots always mess it up. Why not good old reliable port injection only. Honda does 4 direct and 4 in the port my complaint is that an f150 had 8 injectors. To me 8 injectors on a 4 cylinder isnt worth it 😂 for what 1mpg? Injectors arent cheap.
Nissan has had highly suspect quality in recent times. I mean the Z was always cool, but it seems like as soon as Renault took over the vq35 had issues. The HR was cool, but those damn gallery gaskets... and rev ups generally burn oil. I say this as the owner of a 2006 350z 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I had a 2009 g37 I ran to 235k miles never had an issue until a Dodge ram backed into me in a parking lot and totaled it. That care ran so smooth and powerful 💪. Only ever did wheel bearings and suspension parts around 200k. I also see tons of them on the road so they must not be that bad. I've heard about the Rev up motors burning oil but mine never burned oil just leaked a little out the valve cover after 200k+ miles. VQ engines are damn near bulletproof. The problem is most ppl who own them beat the crap out of them and don't maintain them. Can't wait till I find an Infiniti q70 5.6 v8 💪
@michaelcarson121 my rev up seems to have oil pressure drop down a little low after I do a couple pulls. Maybe 10-12psi. It comes right back up to 15 though. My sending unit could be going, it could just need an oil change, or the gallery gaskets might be going. It only has 131k on it.
I’ll stick with my 1990 F250. Yes it’s a brick that plows through the atmosphere, and it’s a hog on fuel, costs over $200 to fill both tanks…. but I can work on it. I can maintain it. 201 000 kms on the clock, still running like a Swiss watch.
@@jl696which despite final assembly happening in Marysville (the TLX also assembled there), the Accord does have Japanese parts included. It’s not 100% all-American.
@@Cerby1979 Yes, I know. We need to increase the US-content. It is time to start building things again. It's a national security and economic necessity.
@@Cerby1979 not a single car is all American made. At best you'll get assembled in America, but most of the components are from overseas. Especially the computers and plastics.
But the thing is, even if all cars were made in the US, they still have many parts made in China or assembled in Mexico with Chinese components. So Trump's tariffs are still gonna raise the price of the vehicle no matter where the final product is made.
Regardless that is insignificant compared to paying tariffs on the WHOLE car. Essentially it is an incentive and a signal is to move operations and manufacturing BACK to non tariff friendly countries and/or back to AMERICA.
You are correct this is just a scam by the profiteers to make you think that this is in our interests, drumpf is most likely going to recieve a cut from this increased price scam. He should be making American goods more affordable than our enemy nations not making Americans pay more.
Didn't trump destroy the American Auto Industry the last time he was trying to fix America, he's full of Bull and all about himself and grift off of his position !

@@sweetsteven217It's not going to happen lol. Trump can have 90% of the government and still wouldn't be able to do it. The current supply chain guarantees the lowest cost. Europe can easily retaliate and apply tarrifs American cars being imported into Europe
A few years ago, more parts of a Toyota Camry were made in the US than a Ford Mustang..... Tesla gets a 7500 subsidy from our tax money per vehicle! Ford, the one big three company that didn't take a dime from us, gets half that per ev vehicle! Why?
Good. Let that keep happening until the NHTSA eases up on its obscene regulations and mandates. Then you can have a $13k car again. I don't want back-up cameras, I don't want airbags, I don't want satellite radio, I don't want infotainment, I don't want cellular connectivity, I don't want seven-foot-wide door sills you could taxi a commercial airliner on. I just want a car. We had those in the 90s, you know.
That pricing is a function of dollar value decrease from 2020 shenanigans.. what we need it wages to catch up to cost of living (double) which will be unlikely.. so your stuck with high prices comparative to your meagre wages
@@RP-le1fp I would say you are a lucky man to buy double , some of these vehicles are 4 times prices paid in Japan even in Germany we are being taken to the cleaners big time.
Importing parts for the assembly plants, will incur high tariff costs. It will take decades to build up parts manufacturing, to fully supply parts needed to assemble complete vehicles. It will be cheaper to assemble in Mexico and pay a one time tariff on the vehicle, rather than pay thousands of individual tariffs in parts.
The main issue i.e. "root cause" is less and less cars being offered for sale in the US regardless of where they are made as well as very very over priced and over rated w/to much electronic goo on them that no one is asking for. 🤔🤐🤨🤔🤐🤨🥴😵😵💫🥴😵😵💫😳😳😳

@Redact63Lluks I get what you mean but the quality doesn't seem to be the same. That's just my opinion and it's based on my own experience, but I think there's a real difference. At least as far as Japanese cars go anyway.

@@ndmuse honestly it would be kind of stupid and impossible but brands should be 100% associated to certian areas of manufacturing... It would make for a product with national loyalty behind it... I've owned two 90s Japan built vehicles and the quality is just awesome like Casio.

Visited NYC. While walking past the Empire State Building I was jokingly pointing out to my wife the faint imprints from where King Kong fell. Had a group of Japanese tourists eating it up and taking pictures of it.
instead of saying "will the government bail them (the car companies) out again", we should be saying "will the tax payers have their tax dollars wasted on billion dollar companies who made bad decisions again". Its corporate welfare, but we cant get healthcare. Right.
@mikehawkins4752 cool. But is it really failing if you become a billionaire, and also hold the highest office to ever exist ?? Strange definition of many failures.
The biggest issue is that most of those components to assemble a car are not made in America and are shipped in. Tariffs will still raise the price on all cars until they change the complete process. Plus if tariffs affect raw material such as steel then it will still make everything more expensive. The auto makers are not going to just eat those costs
I bought new cars all my life. I’ve decided I’ll never buy a new car again. I’m happy with my last car which was a Ford, in 2016. That’s it, that’s what I’ll be living with. I’m sick of the depreciation, the disappointment of people door dinging my brand new car, stone chips, etc. Doesn’t hurt as much in an older car.
@KevinMitnickHackyboy coverd under warranty and unless i get into a major car accident or the car sit in really deep water for long periods of time my battery will be good
Scotty quit "telling it like it is" when he discovered that the new vehicles are too complex for him to properly diagnose and to repair. Were he to admit to that, then he would be telling it like it is. Scotty is an excellent mechanic on the older vehicles and I cannot fault Scotty with difficulty diagnosing the new vehicles. When manufacturer certified technicians seldom diagnose the problem correctly, then that becomes a problem for anyone else trying to work on them too.
Sad to hear about Nissan. They used to be pretty good cars. I had 2004 Nissan Sentra SER Spec-V. It was one of the best cars I ever owned. I bought it in 2012 for $2300. It had 130k miles on it when I got it. Right when I got it, I sold the factory wheels and tires, which paid for a deal I scored on some 19" polished alloy wheels with tires. I even had $100 left over from the wheel tire upgrade. I drove it for three years, put 60k additional miles on it. It never had any issues at all. Just regular maintenance, oil changes, tires, and breaks. Then, I sold the car 3 years later for $2500. I would have kept it, but I moved to Vietnam. I didn't have any place to store it. Ive owned 14 cars in my lifetime. This 2004 Nissan Sentra SER Spec-V, my 2005 Honda S2000, and my 1995 Corolla I had in college were by far the most reliable cars I've owned.
Nissan got teamed with honda more closely because maybe if honda phase out the launchgear cvt they put it in tbe altima to get rod of the non lauchgear cvt. And honda can get them to make sure the vehicles parts are all properly lining up.
i think Nissan was number 3 in the mid 90s and Mitshibishi was number 1 then at there peak for a time.... around 1996 they were making awesome long lasting cars the Magna and the Nissan Pulsar
I've had good luck with my Nissans never any powertrain issues just typical wheel bearing and suspension parts around 200k miles. Had a 97 Altima sold with 280k+, 2009 g37 with 235k when got totaled by a Dodge truck who backed into it in parking lot and now own a 2019 Armada platinum with 74k miles. Currently trying to find the rare Infiniti q70 5.6 v8 💪. Take care of them and they will last a long time. I've never had a CVT transmission Nissan and I know those a kinda junk but the Nissan/Infiniti I've had were bulletproof 😎
Your right Scotty a lot of the car's are crap today and anyone who pays for repairs of these buildings are nuts and our tax money should not go to that 😮
Prices need to come down. Not just with cars, but everything. Plus, inflation and taxes have to come down as well. This high cost of living crap is unsustainable.
Good luck with that! Isn’t going to happen. Anyone who says it will is blowing smoke up your skirt. Inflation is not currently high by the way. Get used to it. And with the incoming administration, you’d better be prepared for more increases.
garbage is still garbage regardless of where it is made or what badge they put on it... Germans lost quality to pursue profit ..plastic engine parts are the death of quality... who wants to buy an expensive German car that will just last out the warranty?

Scotty, I enjoyed your rant today. You make a lot of good points. One correction however. The Porsche Design Center in Sunny Isles Beach, FL was built by Siegel Suarez Architects and branded by Porsche Design. Porsche Designs was founded by F.A. Porsche in 1972, but has nothing to do with Porsche automobile manufacturing, and is a separate corporation.
My 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis will be thirty (30) years old in May of '25 -- 184,000 miles, and still runs like new. I've tried several of Scotty's suggestions and recommendations, but with little success. Mebbe I didn't shout and wave my arms around enough.
??? An American influencer that understands economic principles and takes international (geopolitical) realities in consideration? From a European point of view, you sir are a rare bird.
There are certain realities that go with manufacturing and trade that not enough Americans seem to understand. I like Americans, don't get me wrong, but they're easily fooled by smoke and mirrors and would rather that than come to terms with reality, in a lot of instances.
My main worry about hybrid cars is the battery in them. I also worry about long-term functionality as living in the upper Midwest it gets very hot and humid in summers and very cold and dry in winters. The howling winds of the frozen Great Plains make for adverse conditions for vehicle ownership, yet one is absolutely necessary. I think the issue is over-regulation. Mandated requirements (ex fuel economy) and things ya don't really need (back-up cameras) make for expensive cars you can't work on yourself. I miss the C/K 1500 trucks of yore.
There are no issues with hybrid batteries. The car doesn’t start the engine with the hybrid battery or for the most part doesn’t run on the hybrid battery. Look at the Prius and Lexus hybrids, they run forever. If the battery dies you can still drive the car, just loose gas mileage.
@@daehr9399 A good hybrid will save you a lot of cash, some vehicles it cost 200 a week just gas. A hybrid 40 bucks, that is a lot of saving even if you have to replace the battery in 4 years.
Drive a Mercedes-Benz made in Alabama and then drive one made in Germany. There's a difference in build quality. You can most certainly feel a difference. I don't know what's different, but something is.
@John-j4y8h yes! In S.Korea Hyundai/Kia is a big time company. They make buses, heavy equipment for construction, heavy trucks and all kinds of other stuff. Hyundai is the "GM" of their economy. People who don't travel and don't read know nothing.......

One of my vehicles is a 1996 Ford Econoline high top conversion van with the 351 W engine. I paid $7,000 for it in 2004. Currently it has about 560,000 miles on it and it's still running strong. Nobody talks about the 351 W but its a tough and reliable engine. Its a shame how this engine was only available in the full size vans and trucks after 1979. I never understood why. If Chevy could put a 350 in a late 1980's Camaro then why couldn't Ford put the 351 W in the Mustang?
Probably not going to happen as the young people don't have any interest. My neighbor and I both have Corvettes, he has a C3 and I have a C7. I frequently work on my car outside, everything from oil changes to just washing the car. Zero interest from the teenagers across the street. They are only interested in electronics and video games.
Trump isn’t interested enough in governing to even attempt to understand complex issues.. and being a narcissist he thinks his every thought is golden. And as a sociopath he actually finds perverse pleasure in chaos and hurting others. Geez.
I’d rather take a Lexus made in Japan or a bmw in Germany or Audi in Slovakia over the U.S. made models. They have had way more quality control issues. Problem is the government can mandate the cars to be manufactured in the U.S. to avoid heavy tariffs but they can’t mandate a good product to me made.
Not only is Trump ignorant of how tariffs work, he doesn't know anything about the automobile industry, manufacturing, economics, business, etc. BUT WAIT! Didn't Trump study business, economics, etc at Wharton? Wharton, call Trump and demand to have him return his diploma !

@@mcsike7264 save that for your batteries bro!
@KevinMitnickHackyboy coverd under warranty and unless i get into a major car accident or the car sit in really deep water for long periods of time my battery will be good
Good luck with your junk 🗑️ bro 😂
Scotty quit "telling it like it is" when he discovered that the new vehicles are too complex for him to properly diagnose and to repair. Were he to admit to that, then he would be telling it like it is. Scotty is an excellent mechanic on the older vehicles and I cannot fault Scotty with difficulty diagnosing the new vehicles. When manufacturer certified technicians seldom diagnose the problem correctly, then that becomes a problem for anyone else trying to work on them too.
I would like to be the guy that Donald Trump thinks he is.
Nissans are junk compared to Toyota. Pretty good compared to American and Korean.
“When a person buys an automobile, he is entitled to continuous use of that automobile and should never have to buy another one.” Henry Ford
Your right Scotty a lot of the car's are crap today and anyone who pays for repairs of these buildings are nuts and our tax money should not go to that 😮
Sounds like inflation, as prices inevitably rise while quality remains poor. 😂
Is President Musk going to exempt Teslas made in China.
garbage is still garbage regardless of where it is made or what badge they put on it... Germans lost quality to pursue profit ..plastic engine parts are the death of quality... who wants to buy an expensive German car that will just last out the warranty?
The refrigerators of transportation.
German moved the factory to China using Chinese Quality substandard and want to charge their customer based on German living standard!
Mercedes-Benz are high quality cars! I never had a problem with mine.
True. Way back in the day Cadillac was the gold standard now GARBAGE
@@MissRed92837 My father Mercedes made in Stuttgart, West Germany never had a problem for 17 years. The pant of this car is 4 layers thick. The VW square back that we had in Thailand never had an issue for 22 years until the engine blown out and we put a second new OEM engine and continue to have it until my aunts can no longer drive. Both of our German cars were sold to Taxi and still in service for many years. The new German car made in China had many issues after 50K including my 2 Volvos that made in Sweden.
Headlamp assembly for a 2010 Cobalt is $45. For a 2020 Honda Fit it costs as high as $168. Buy domestic. Cheaper to repair, insure, maintain.
We should make at least 70% of cars needed for America.
Why should we be forced to buy a product we don't want?
@SawtoothMan, you're forced to buy plenty
If Michigan doesn't accommodate GM, another state will. It's not corrupt. If we eliminated taxes the way Dubai does, we'd be rich like Dubai. But when we punish productivity, companies flee.
Dubai (UAE) appears rich, it is not. Average GDP of it's population $57k annually! Great architecture, much a facade of empty sky scrapers!
No one is buying them
Good luck with lower quality at higher prices.
Bro usa can male a car higher quality than Nissan dude they cant even get their body panels to line up without having to be partnered with honda to figure out why its so hard for them to do basic task associated with automotive like making sure all the parts actually line up
@@JacobWillitsthat’s because we haven’t had a skilled labor force in decades 90% of people only have experience in service economy not manufacturing
I think everyone will be coaxed to live in the cities.. so no people living out in the wilds..
There are no issues with hybrid batteries. The car doesn’t start the engine with the hybrid battery or for the most part doesn’t run on the hybrid battery. Look at the Prius and Lexus hybrids, they run forever. If the battery dies you can still drive the car, just loose gas mileage.
I love the backup camera. I’ve gotten really good backing into a parking space, without twisting my body like a pretzel to see out the back window. 😊
It’s the same thing with Hyundais and Kias in South Korea. I rented one when I traveled there last Summer. Clear difference in build quality
@John-j4y8h yes! In S.Korea Hyundai/Kia is a big time company. They make buses, heavy equipment for construction, heavy trucks and all kinds of other stuff. Hyundai is the "GM" of their economy. People who don't travel and don't read know nothing.......
@@John-j4y8h another example: the Australian fords and chevys aren't the same one's we get here in the U.S.A. !!!!!! They're not even related lol 😭
They might use a couple of doors and some tail lights.
@@John-j4y8h and our Toyota products are nothing like Japanese models. In Japan Toyota is Like Cadillac here in the U.S.A.
They're extremely upscale. And Lexus is not a thing there. Doesn't exist. At least not a few years ago.
@@John-j4y8h the American market is where you go if you want to "cut corners" and make a killing doing it!!
He's not kidding. A study just came out a bunch of Miami buildings are sinking. Few years ago the Surfside Tower collapsed.
Build new ones. Gdp boast
Even more disturbing, the initial death toll of surfside was 11, but later they found out 98 perished that day. Truly horrific
Don't get your hopes up scotty
Well said
@CDWEL24 well yeah he says alot of stuff to get people hopes up and 2 things distract or failed the people not to mention he has elon musk
The cost of energy in Germany has skyrocketed afterwards when Nordstream was destroyed.
That was the US plan to get Germany to buy more expensive US gas
My ranger keeps going I am not worried I've got a parts truck
I love watching Scotty videos!
He’s a very smart guy & funny as hell❣️
I have a 2006 Scion Xb with 554,111 miies and still running great.
Bring back old school muscles like they did in Detroit n stuff
word! my everyday driver is a 1966 Riviera GS. runs great and goes on long trips.

Probably not the best idea when Trump's threatening Canada with a 25% tariff on oil, but anyway.
I think Trump is focusing to create jobs for americans instead of car quality.
There is NO WAY to avoid tariffs when all the parts come from other countries. PERIOD.
Truth!
Theater. All of it.
The audis are better when made in germany not slovakia. Ask me how i know, about the Q7
I bought a Ford Excape this past summer. Love it.
