It is pretty fun to watch Plant perform this live at Knebworth in 1990. He did his set with his own band and then, as a surprise to the fans, brought Jimmy onstage to perform several songs with them. This was one of them.
It’s sad that Bonham died, because Bonham and Page wanted their next album (after the upcoming American tour) to be what they called “hypnotic.” They wanted it to be their greatest album, to eclipse even “Physical Graffiti.” I would give anything to listen to that album, but as we know, it was never written & recorded because Bonham died. But I think it would have possibly been their greatest achievement, because they were hungry and ambitious again because many had written them off because of Punk.
This is basically the last studio track they ever did as a foursome. What an incredible ride from Good Times, Bad Times!! It’s why they are the best rock band in history…ever!!
Medication! Medication!! One of my favorites off this album. I don’t think they could’ve fooled many that this was another band, especially when Plant’s voice comes in. Figures the last song off their last album is about substance abuse. I have a buddy that is deep into dealing with his alcohol demons and I’m continually reminded of this song.
I'm your stereotypical 70s kid that grew up listening to Zeppelin. I remember hearing Wearing and Tearing for the first time around 1980 and thinking to myself it had a "punk" feel to it. By the way, you have a nice channel here. I'm enjoying your videos.
They were accused of being rock dinosaurs and out of touch at this time. So they probably did this to throw it back in the critics face. Not my style, but again it just proves that they could run circles around almost any band. Of course, that's not really a high bar considering most punk bands knew two or three chords at best. This is like Zeppelin pulling away in a jacked up muscle car and forcing every punk band to swallow their dust.
I remember the press here in the uk calling them dinosaurs just before knebworth. Funny how some of the British punk bands of the day, were fighting for knebworth tickets and back stage passes to meet led zeppelin
It’s a simple, but great song. It was written and recorded to be released under a fake band name as an experiment. I think it’s a well written fun song. Takes a lot of energy to play on drums
The Coda Deluxe CDs are a must have if you like this. I have it and Page released the rough of Inner Light which can’t get enough of. 3 CDs! Absolute brilliance!
That descending guitar break is Jimmy's nod to Buddy Holly's "I'm Going To Love You Too". He wore his early influences on his sleeve, even if he didn't always say it outright.
I would have tossed hot dog out in through the outdoor and put this metal head wearing and tearing instead! I hate hot dog!! And I have been a zep head since 1969!
Sometimes when I hear this I get sad bc Zeppelin were transforming again and I imagine what would have come next. It would have been something awesome I'm sure
Apparently Page and Plant had been to a gig by The Damned circa 1977 and befriended the band. It was their attempt to do punk. They were certainly open to what was new and willing to turn their hand to anything.
From what Robert has said they went to see The Damned and liked it but the singer started fake groveling on the floor in front of Plant…really pushed him off. Plant wanted to kick him but Jimmy persuaded him not to. Wasn’t a happy meeting. Punk bands dismissed Zep and other massive bands as irrelevant and out of touch…dinosaurs. Interesting that it’s the music of the “dinosaurs” that’s remembered and respected. I couldn’t name one song byThe Damned or The Sex Pistols.
Love it...p.s. Its pronounced Bonzos. MON TRO ... Montreux ..City in Switzerland. Where it was recorded.. Enjoying the hell out of your journey.. Been along every step of the way!
He along with John Paul Jones basically became the leaders of the band at that period(1978-80) in their careers. This song in general is basically Plant again chastising Page, Peter Grant, Richard Cole and even Bonzo and the road crew at time who were destroying themselves with hard drugs like herion, Opiods, Qualudes and Cocaine. They of course were livid when they found out Plant was writing about and exposing their substances and didn't want the public to know it about.
For me, not punk but kinda punky, but really manic hard rock done by the best. For something also great but different with Jimmy Page on lead guitar try Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man or his own killer Prison Blues. Enjoy! 🎸
Punk,Disco,Rap...it’s all garbage! They did this to prove a point! 😎 They actually made punk sound good! It’s actually musical. Not s reaming and random cords! Just saying! Punk sucks! Angry music, for angry people. Cut me a break! Oh yeah, I forgot one, Metal, is the big suck!
You sound like an old fart. Well, I’m an old fart too but love Tool, Metallica, Nightwish and many others. I agree about punk. Detest it. Disco is great for dancing which is all it was meant to be for. It was meant for fun. Rap I can ignore. But hey William, try to expand just a bit. It doesn’t hurt. 😁
hey my man sorry but u are noob in rock/metal ok? hey u dont have a single by iron maiden, metalica, slayer, idol, pink floyd , bowie, etc hey led is a overrated band , try judas priest , elvis , sinatra , tnks from brazil u have a reac but play list need a jump

Led Zeppelin created punk in 1969 with Communication Breakdown. They returned a decade later to reclaim it with Wearing and Tearing.
Yes so true !
Chuck berry created punk rock. All these English bands from the 60s were disciples of chuck berry specially The Rolling Stones and jimmy page

The guys were kidding themselves if they thought people wouldn’t recognize Plant’s voice. So distinct, one of a kind.
I think zeppelin intention was to have the song go #1 ..obviously once you hear song you know it's zepp...and like a good joint word would spread
You are now _soooo_ close to my favorite Zeppelin song - *'Travelling Riverside Blues'.*
this is an almost unknown track, but if it was 99% of other bands this would be there biggest hit!
They did everything!!
This is basically the last studio track they ever did as a foursome. What an incredible ride from Good Times, Bad Times!! It’s why they are the best rock band in history…ever!!
The Knebworth version in 1990 by Page/Plant was excellent....and can be found on RUclips.
That set was killer, highly recommended!
the kick drum on this is unbelievable

Always loved this song. They were beasts.

One of my favorite Zep tunes on any album. I always wondered how it got buried. Most people have never heard it, including their own fans.
Zeppelin out Punks the Punks!!
the live page and plant version is GREAT!
I remember the press here in the uk calling them dinosaurs just before knebworth.
Funny how some of the British punk bands of the day, were fighting for knebworth tickets and back stage passes to meet led zeppelin
Hey! That’s right! You gotta do Traveling Riverside Blues!
This really isn't punk it skips over punk and it's pretty much proto speed metal! Still hardcore Zeppelin!
IMO..It's Punk...I traveled with a punk group back in the 70's and this sounds like their punk only better
After CODA find The BBC Complete Live Sessions- listen to Led Zeppelin’s The girl i love she got long black wavy hair- oh yes!
It’s a simple, but great song. It was written and recorded to be released under a fake band name as an experiment. I think it’s a well written fun song. Takes a lot of energy to play on drums

I think they were way ahead of the Punk scene when they recorded "Communication Breakdown"
This can somewhat be considered a "throwaway album" but it smokes anything put out this century.
That descending guitar break is Jimmy's nod to Buddy Holly's "I'm Going To Love You Too". He wore his early influences on his sleeve, even if he didn't always say it outright.

i REALLY like this track

You could also listen to the unreleased and unfinished Zep song 'Fire'. Even from the one take we have of it, it sounds great. Esp Bonzo.
Yes!
Hammer of the gods

This is great by Page and Plant at Knebworth 1990. Page brought on as special guest

Coda Deluxe is a keeper!
bonham is an animal yet again here!
Hey Sal you can watch Plant and Page do the live version at Knebworth 1990 on RUclips!!! That could be your next reaction videos!!!
Ha ha this is pure Zeppelin at there peak along with Walter’s Walk the speed of the song can only be played by the greats.
This is the number that should've followed In The Evening on the last record.
The Crunge is John Paul Jones favorite song give it a listen 🎶
After Coda you should react to JPJ's two solo albums from 1999 and 2001 Zooma and The Thunder Thief.
My favorite anti drug song. Plant was fed up at this point, the lyrics are great.

Speed metal!
Imo Communication Breakdown is more punk than this.
Funny how their two most punk songs end up on totally polar opposite ends of their career. Says a lot about the beast that was LZ
@@xytrius8194 I think it's funny how they didn't realize they had already done it. 😆
For me, not punk but kinda punky, but really manic hard rock done by the best. For something also great but different with Jimmy Page on lead guitar try Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man or his own killer Prison Blues. Enjoy! 🎸
Coda was tossed together cause they owed the record company an album.

I don't think it would of worked! No one else sounds like Robert Plant. Lol.
