Minecraft Elegance: Raid Captain Bank, an upgrade to Instant Raid Farm (Java 1.16-1.20)

- A raid captain bank is useful addition to a raid farm that lets you skip going to a pillager outpost before starting the raid farm. The bank stores a few of the captains that spawn in the raid farm, and you kill these captains instead of the ones at the pillager outpost. This lets you build raid farms in more convenient locations, like near your base or trading hall. It also means that the raid farm can be used more easily as an XP farm, since the farm can be started and stopped with greater ease. And you can completely skip the tedious process of searching for a pillager outpost by getting the first bad omen effect through a patrol instead.

This raid captain bank also works on the Rays Works raid farm design. Build the bank at least 12 blocks higher than where the player stands when attacking mobs. There is room for 3 boats per level since it doesn't use a redstone torch tower.

4:37 Just to keep things simple, it's worth sacrificing the captain so that you kill the evoker in the same boat. But if you really want to save the captain, just place the lava on their heads and immediately pick it up. Both the evoker and captain will take enough fire damage to get to about 6 health (3 hearts), which lets you kill them individually with one hit.
The Y level of the captain bank keeps captured evokers far enough away so they cannot attack you while you are killing mobs in the dropshaft. Any evokers that are aware of you may attack as you go up the ladder. If this happens, just quit the game and rejoin. Alternatively, you can preemptively quit and rejoin the game after the raid ends to completely eliminate the risk of an evoker attacking. Игры

I thought about this but knowing me, I'd somehow trigger a raid back at my base carelessly if it was close by. My raid farm is only 100 blocks via nether roof portal.
I really like how you could also upgrade this so the hopper goes into a storage system or shulker loader.

I think the best tip here is to make sure that there's a captain in the bank before leaving it, if there's not trigger another raid over and over till you get a captain, then leave the farm

I hadn't understood how to "switch off" the farm, and I just had to fetch a lava bucket at my base - instant full fletched raid at my base. The simple task of picking up a bucket suddenly wasn't as simple, especially since I left my bow at the farm. That's bucket fetching intensified.

Hi! this indeed works on the rays works raid farm. you can add an extra boat per layer since it doesnt have a redstone torch tower.
Just an extra tip: If you do individually kill the other mobs after the evokers without lava they will keep aggro on you so log out and log back in after killing them. If you don't do this then you trap another evoker in the boats while another banked mob is aggro then the evoker will spawn vex when you climb the ladders.

Hi kusugu! Thank you for your comments! A few viewers have requested an HoV upgrade, so I may do that in the future. That said, almost anything that you could get from HoV can just be bought from a villager through normal trading, and all this is essentially free because you have so many emeralds! Is there something in particular that you are looking to get through HoV?

My solution is to have multiple villagers at the base of my raid farm (beside my emerald chest in my sorting station which is also at the base of the farm). :)
Oh, and I have a cow living there too... for when I want to stop the bad omen.
Thank you for this. Just built it on our vanilla server 1.17 and works very well. I found If I wasn't in the bubble elevator quick enough the raid failed. but once going it doesn't stop.. so I put my portal right next to the elevator.

just built this! not because my outpost is far away (its barely over 100 blocks), but because I'm on superflat and like 50 pillagers spawn outside the outpost instantly
every single time before you go up the ladder to the bank quit and rejoin. all the mobs in the bank know youre in the kill chamber but cant attack you but if you relog they all forget most importantly the evokers
Placing down lava tends to burn up the boats quickly. Quickly picking up the lava seems to work well enough. The lava doesn't eliminate the witches, but these can be picked off without evoker retaliation.
Also doing preliminary testing of CowKing's stacking raid farm design w/ this bank. Observations and issues so far:
-Have fit 10 boats so far. The drop chute is wide enough to place a boat at each corner while adding some ladders on the front. A dust line gets in the way of placing boats on the top level of the north side.
-Player position in front of the armor stand (kill chamber) is immune to fangs, but not necessarily outside it. The tower is also fully vex suppressed. The lowest boat layer would put evokers in range of the player.
-There will usually be some lingering evokers on the spawn platform or kill chamber that make it annoying to climb back into the bank. Boat spam counteracts some difficulty in being able to simply restock captains through bad omen after removing the raiders.

My server has no pillager outposts, so this is a godsend. Just got my first patrol after 2 months playing and i really hope this works first try xD

Hi Will! A wither skeleton skull farm is on my list, but there is a "prerequisite" video that I need to cover first. Existing gold farm designs are hard to beat in terms of elegance, but I've been experimenting with them and will post a video if I find something worthwhile. Existing bamboo farm designs are also already very good. Thanks for the suggestions!

Fyi, this works great on the Raysworks farm. I managed to get 3 boats per level since that one doesn't use a torch tower.

Just FYI for anyone who accesses their raid farm via nether portal like I do, leaving through the portal right after dropping down saves the raid state for as long as you aren't nearby. You can come back and the raid bar will continue filling up from where you left it. Your mileage may vary, as stepping onto the portal too soon can cancel the raid entirely, but I'm able to pull this off 95% of the time

I haven't exactly checked how the stacking raid farm design from you looks, so I wanted to ask if such a modification is at all possible on that version.
If it is possible, an updated video would be nice since I don't have a good location so far for a raidfarm and such a modification would allow me to build it in a more convenient location.
Edit: I just saw that the stacking raid farm video has a time stamp where a bank is shown. My bad for missing it.

Oh my god, this is so awesome! I just have a little question - I play on an SMP with my friends, and we already had maxed netherite gear before making the raid farm, so we decided to go big or go home and make the Ray's Works version. My question is, would this still work with slight tweaking?

So, I pretty much understand everything and this is *brilliantly* elegant. However, I'm wondering about the Y level - does it have to be at the exact level you mentioned, or does it have to be x blocks higher than where the player stands?
@@apocalyptapig6088 The y level in the video was selected so that an evoker trapped in a boat would be too far away from you to attack, even if it became aware of you through other raid mobs. The platform should be at least 12 blocks higher from where you stand when killing those in the drop shaft. The raid bank will still work if you build it lower, but it makes it more risky to operate. @@ianxofour Just finished building it, and it works great on a Rays Works design, with some slight tweaks - I built it around 16 blocks higher than the player just to be safe, so your feet when standing on it are at y229. I ran a ladder on the left side of the drop shaft, so you can jump on top of the chests and go up. And you can even fit 3 boats in there because there's no torch tower! This is really amazing man, I absolutely adore your Minecraft Elegance series and I'm hoping you continue making awesome minecraft stuff for a while!

Hi Lystaeus! I havent really bothered trying to see if it can be upgraded this way. Nearly everything that can be obtained with HoV can just be bought instead through trading with villagers. (Clay is the only exception.) Since you get so many emeralds with this farm, anything that can be obtained from trading is effectively free. May I ask what you are looking for in a HoV upgrade? I may make a video for it if I get enough requests. Thanks!
@@ianxofour Hi, since the other person didn't respond I'll reply. The tipped arrows are somewhat underrated since they let you carry tons of extra effects like night vision and water breathing with just a bow. Otherwise clay and discounts are the only real use.
However! I wanted to point out, I think your content could potentially fit well in a TikTok format and allow you to reach perhaps the largest casual audience on minecraft which would benefit a lot from these tutorials. Formatting content to reach many views and such a larger audience can be hard, though.
Tipped arrows :) They're great for inventory potion effects. Rolling for specific arrow trades is a chore, since the tipped arrow trade is master level - and cannot be rerolled by simply breaking and placing the job site.

I love this design and the original farm. Btw, I really like how this is presented like an upgrade guide for a machine. So many videos like this take the "X farm v2" approach and start from block one.
Sure, there's designs that give more items than I could really use, but they're all fairly complex, take way longer to build, and take way more resources (and really, aside from the witch drops, I get more than I need of the other stuff.) I was able to build this as soon as I got my first soul sand, which is quite a low bar for making a farm with such a quick 0-30 time. It's become a bit of a centerpiece in my setup for the time being. Bolted on an enchanting room and a cow as soon as I was able, and I see potential to put a trading hall nearby once I get over how far the nearest village is and just run a rail over. Thanks for posting this.
glad its working well for you. to get rid of bad omen when you are done with the farm, just drop down to trigger another raid and then leave. no cow needed
Does it work even if the villager on the bottom doesnt have a job? Like, I have a Villager Spawn Egg, I use it there inside the glass, and should work?

i built a raid captain bank attached to ianxofour's instant raid farm and even after 6 raids, it hasn't caught a single raid captain and btw i play in 1.19.3

Hi Kilian! Nope. Mobs in a boat do not despawn! This can be used for iron farms, too. Check out my "iron farm on day 1" video for another neat demonstration.

Hi, a friend of mine showed me your videos, I really enjoy your tutorials, they're informative, thorough and simple. You're doing a very good job, I hope you keep going. If I had *one* thing to comment on, sometimes you're going just a liiiiittle bit too fast. There's always going to be moments where we need to rewind in a tutorial of course, but anyway, IMO it would help if you slowed down a bit in the sections where extra attention is needed (for counting blocks, checking coordinates, stuff like that)

So I added one layer and tried this and now my raid farm is broken :(. I go up the bubble column and the raid starts but nothing happens. Solutions?
I'm having a bit of an issue with Evokers using their vine attack and spawning vexes way more often than I would expect. I think the raid mobs in the captain bank maintain their agression towards me after I kill their friends in the drop shaft, and end up alerting the next raid mobs as they drop down. At least, that's the only explanation I can think of.
This issue seems to compound with every use of the farm if I don't wait until all the trapped vexes have died. Thankfully, since I'm playing Hardcore and am kinda paranoid when Evokers are involved, I built the farm with a Strength II beacon (since my normal sword uses Smite V) and Resistance II. Probably adding Regeneration at this rate, but I'd like to find a more permanent solution.
What I think you did wrong is you either didn’t make the y-level the specific number of blocks high it needed to be or you didn’t make the raid captain bank 16 blocks (extra insurance so you are farther away from the evoker) up from the killing station. I also advise you to have a totem at all times, maxed out netherrite, and some golden apples for extra security if you did everything correct and you still have the evoker problem.
i added this to my farm but it counts them as part of the next raid its not ur farm but I built it in a similar place on the farm
sorry for my dumbness so if i’m correct with this and your last vid i have the make the instant farm first set everything up and then i can relocate it near my base but i’ll have to trap those captains first ?
i typically build the raid farm with a raid captain bank near my base. the farm can be started with bad omen from any source. you can use an outpost or a patrol.

Is there a fix for a witch spotting me when in mob bank?
This Captain Bank Upgrade doesn't appear to work in 1.21. It appears that only one bottle drops after the raid is over, and no other raid captain drops additional bottles. That being said, the initial farm does in fact still work.

Hey Ian, i built the farm and now i did the bank, and i am having a problem, some of the mobs that go into the bank die from suffocation, so when i go to check it i have less than 8, lowering my chance to get a captain. Do you know why this could be?

make sure you have glass blocks in the same places as in the video for the drop shaft. break the boats where you see the suffocation issue. and carefully repeat the steps in the video to make sure that the boats are in the right place.

Once the boats are filled the rates are unaffected.

How do you stop the pillagers to get to the raid captain bank in the first round of the raid? The problem for me is the pillagers get stuck in the raid captain bank on the first round and they are counted as part of the raid so I have to kill them for raid round to end
Hmmm... That doesnt sound right. Where is the closest job site?
I put the villager next to the bottom of the drop shaft (where you kill the pillagers) I did this because I have an elytra and I can just fly to the spot where I need to kill the pillagers.
@@cryptocurrencypump Ok. I recommend that you put the job site and villager under the northwest corner of the spawning platform at the sea level, just as its shown in the "instant raid farm" video. This will let the farm work much much faster since the farm will give you the bad omen effect to restart another raid
@@ianxofour I tried that at first but when I got to the top platform the raid wouldn't start even though I got to the top before the raid bar filled up. I think the issue I am having is possibly because I built some parts at the wrong level, I am downloading the world download to look for what I did wrong

short question: the captains count as raidmobs so i cant finish the raid without killing them... but then i will lose the effect after finishing the raid. How can i fix that
They shouldn't count to the raid since they are far enough away from the composter. You may have a stray raid mob somewhere nearby, perhaps on an overlooked island.

And like you explained one vindicator always got shootend up in the sky with the reason of having to many entitys on one block. He landed down in the ocean. I fixed it with a slab obove the lava

Hi Shonir! The evoker would need to be killed in one hit, or you would have to deal with the vexes and fangs.

the practical stacking raid farm has its own raid captain bank shown near the end of the video, and be sure to read the video description. the one shown in this video may work as well, but i have not tested it. you can use the wdl in the video description to test on your own
