    HI Peter, your channel is great! I'm new to the whole Sonos world, and your channel first of all helpd me decide to invest in an ARC, Sub and two One SLs. I've been able to absorb a lot of tips and tricks you have shared, and thank you so much for that. In regards to the speaker placement in my room, after watching this video e completely changed my experience because I had them too close to my ears, now I place them about 1.5 to 2 meters from me, and it is much, much better! Thank you so much!

    Fantistic video Peter. Thanks. Question for you. I have a Sonos Beam (G2) on my 75" Hisense U7G with 2 Sonos One's as rear surrounds. I recently also got two IKEA Symfonisk Lamp's on sale. Can i use the Symfonisk in the surround set-up as additional front surrounds to broaden the sound stage of the Beam? The sound quality of the Beam is top notch but it cant compare to the arc in terms of the sound stage due to the lack of side and upward firing drivers.

  • @Rodiac
    @Rodiac 2 года назад +2

    adjusting the distance option in settings for surround speakers is greyed out once you do trueplay. so it makes no difference. trueplay determines the distance after the run.

  • @malvnathaniel

    Just upgraded my play:1 surround to play:3 and wow what a difference! Placement is also very important but if you have bigger room and can get the Play:3 (its becoming rare according to Peter) it will be worth it 👍🏼
    One thing I need to question Peter, I got the bookshelves wall mounted beside my bed but its facing forward and you can’t set the angle. Should I make a custom wooden dock so it can angled to my listening position?

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  3 года назад

      If you can angle the speaker towards your ears, that'd be ideal. When you face the rear speakers forward, you'd hear less volume, and you tend to have to push the rear volume up a little. Or Trueplay will move the volume up to compensate. That muddies the sound stage.
      If you don't mind the time and cost of this project, I'd recommend it. It's a worthwhile project. And when you listen to music with the speakers angled to face you, set the surround range to full and you'd be blessed with a great image.

    So i've went all out on my setup. I have the Sonos Arc soundbar, 2 Sonos Subs (both Gen 3), and now I JUST got 2 Sonos FIVE speakers. But right now I haven't paired them yet to my Arc and sub's bc I'm fixing to move into my new place in a couple weeks and my current room isn't close to being big enough to pair the 2 FIVE Speakers with the rest. So my question is, should I place the two FIVE speakers behind me on a SANUS stand? Or should I mount them behind me close to the ceiling? Where should I put the 2 Sub's? I just want to get the best layout for everything since I spent so much on it all. It'll be paired with a 2021 Samsung QN90A Neo QLED 4K 75' TV that should arrive by the end of this week. I'm so excited to put it all together! The room it's going in isn't the largest so I'm hoping to get optimal spacing as possible for everything to sound it's best.

    What is your recommendation when there is a large sofa, and the listeners on either side of the couch are much closer to a surround than the center position? Should I place the surrounds farther away and increase their volume slightly? Center position is 10 feet from arc and 5 feet from each sonos one, but when sitting on the edge of the couch, the listener is only about 2 feet from the surround.

    Thanks for another great video as always Peter!
    I'm looking at getting two symfonisk lamp speakers and placing them behind and to the side of my three seater sofa in the recommended positions. Unfortunately whilst this will be great for the person sitting on the centre seat of my couch (main listening position), due to the small size of my room it will mean anyone sitting on the left or right hand side of my couch (or me when laying down) will have a speaker about a foot or two away from their head.
    Will this completely ruin the sound for them to the point the speakers would be detrimental to the experience and not worth investing in? or is there a way I could tweak this to still provide a nice surround sound experience for all seats? Based on your video I was thinking if I true play, reduce the sound on both speakers by 15, and set the distance to under two foot, this might be the best I can do?
    Will be paring these with a Sonos Arc if it makes any difference.

      For the purpose of current setup, I'd say in wall is much better. Just mount at the side walls and point towards the MLP. I am running ceiling and while the sound is truly enveloping, the 3D soundscape does get confusing since the surround is coming from above. And Atmos is supposed to bounce off from above.

    First off, your channel is amazing! You talk about all my questions & you’re super likable.
    Now my question:
    My living room is 22 ft across (TV on center of the wall) and 18' deep, and has a tall ceiling. I'm leaning towards 2 Fives as rears right now because of room size (passing on the Sub until I save more to buy it). Because of couch placement the rears will be more like 95 or 100 degrees back from where you’d sit, and 10' away. Will that be okay? I went with the Fives to compensate for the distance--but what about not being able to go as far back as 120 degrees?

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  3 года назад

      Thank you for your compliment!
      Not being able to go back as far as the recommended placement is a small issue. In fact, without a baseline way to compare between the difference of 100 degree and 120 degree, you won’t tell the difference.
      My concern for your case is more the distance. The fives are very far apart and the sound bar is going to sound a little narrower. But don’t worry about it. The fives will nicely fill up the room very well. They sound big.

They will be placed more in the corners of the back of the room (I know not ideal but it is what fits in the room) They will also be placed in the vertical position to decrease it's footprint. • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  3 года назад +3

      I am running a very close configuration to what you are describing except that I am running 4 yamaha ceiling speakers (8") instead of the Sonance in-ceiling. If you are going to place the Sonia five on the floor, place them vertically. That way, there will be more throw upwards to ear level.

    Peter a quick question. I have the gen 2 sound bar, gen 2 sub and two S1 speakers. I want to add two more speakers to get better sound effect. Can you add two more an get a 7.2 effect or do I need to add a play bar also? Thanks.

    • @PeterPee

      You won’t be able to add more speakers to the beam and surround with sub. That’s the max configuration.

    Do these surrounds add Loudness to the overall system? My ARC and Sub sound good but I have to turn it up to 75% to experience room filling sound. Query is wrt use of surrounds is if it adds volume to the overall soundstage?

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  3 года назад

      Not by much. The surround channels add dimension and scale, not volume. But if your room is very big and you can't fill the room with just the arc and Sub alone, then the surround speakers will bring sound to the places where you can't hear it well now even if it is just the surround channel effects.

    Hopefully you can shed some light for me. I'm planning on purchasing the Sonos Arc, Sub Gen 3 and some One's; my question refers to your graph at the beginning of the video, should I purchase 4 One's for front and back or just 2 One's for the rears? I've been looking for someone who's tested this but seems no one has done this on a review, could you share your insights with me?

    Hey Peter, I am on the brink of deciding between arc + sub + one SLs or Fives as rear speakers.
    Would you say you hear an AUDIBLE difference between both setups (one's vs fives) when streaming movies (More immersion and much bigger soundstage)?
    In other words: is the 5% you mentioned really audible or is there a difference mainly with music?
    Very much appreciated.
    Thank you and kind regards

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  3 года назад

      Hey, sorry if this comment is not reaching you in a timely manner. But yes, the difference is an audible difference. And the difference increases when you increases the volume. The Fives will have a lot more headroom.
      Again, do it if the price difference is not going to make your kids go hungry. :)

      I have the same set up with the one SL it’s really cheaper than the five. And to be honest I am quite surprised how good they. I’m sure the five would sound louder wider but also I like the tiny shape of the ones. Sticking to five would be pretty bulky to my opinion. Best would be to try it of course

    Also have two play ones in kitchen. I also have the sonos move and the roam and move thoese randomly. My question is for my living room set up for movies, sports and regular TV and also music is it better to pair up two play ones or two play 3s with sub and sound bar? Or should I place the two play ones in living room two with rest of speakers??
    One more question, when watching movies can I pair up the sonos move and roam with existing living room set up or no??

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  2 года назад

      Definitely better to pair the two play:3s with the sub and sound bar.
      For the play:1s, just use them in the living room or somewhere else in the house as a stereo setup.
      The Move and Roam can be made to play in a group with the living room setup but you are not going to get much more except louder volume.

It sounds perfectly balanced if I play from Spotify to my Family room with the beam set in surround sound, but If I airplay through my TV on youtube its plays predominantly through the beam even if I crank the surround levels. It acts like I am watching a movie and most comes through the beam. I have to walk over to the speaker and put my ear against it to hear it almost. The only way I have found it to disconnect it from the surround sound setting which is what I am going to end up doing because I want to watch music on RUclips more often than watching movies but wish I did not have to connect and disconnect surround sound to do it.
