I have gen 2 sub with arc and 2 era 300's as surrounds. My living room in total is about 300sq ft but this includes an extension. The listening area is about 160 sq ft. Would the sub mini still be OK. Would I notice any improvement with a later generation?
      Any comments welcome.

@@tonypate9046 A sub mini would be good for that room size in my opinion but I depends on your preference. I prefer my bass crisp and not overpowered. If you prefer heavy bass, stick with the sub gen 3.

Thanks a lot Peter for your information in this video! Because of this video i bought the Sub Mini to go with my Arc. I ordered the era 300’s as well, as everybody speaks highly of them, to substitute my One SL’s. I just finished my true play and just had to come straight back here to tell everybody who reads this how awesome the sounds is!!! My Arc “breaths” better and the bass is incredible in my 52m2 / 560 sqft living room and the spatial audio tracks of Apple Music are like visiting a club / concert/ operahouse!
If anybody doubts the power of the mini, don’t! It is truely a brilliant addition to the system ❤. The Era’s are like everybody says, great! A real step up from the One SL’s. Real room filling speakers!
Thanks Peter for everything! And everybody here, have a great time listening to your awesome soundsystem! 😊

This is exactly my setup. Arc + Submini. Bought the Sub to free the Arc from bass duties. Very happy with it. I never saw the need to add surround. My room is quite small and the Arc does a good enough job of simulating sounds coming from beside and even behind me. Particularly when there is Dolby Atmos. I also get to enjoy Spatial Audio from Apple Music, played thru AppleTV over eARC.

thank you for this review and your advice/observations. It confirms what I had in mind when I bought the SONOS sub-MINI with SONOS ARC and 2 off ERA300 in April last year. Thank you for this video. I had an issue unrelated to the sub-mini and was speaking with Sonos tech support. When they reviewed my configuration (this is is my bedroom), a Sonos Arc, two rear Sonos One, Gen 2, and a sub-mini, they told me that the sub mini was not designed to be paired with the arc and I was hurting my sound quality. They strongly encouraged me to upgrade to the larger Sonos sub. I have the larger sub, an arc, and two Eros 300 in my larger living room, but to my ear the sub-mini worked well in my bedroom. It is is good to get conformation that I am enriching not harming my bedroom listening experience,.

We had a Beam + Sub Mini + 2 SL1s , and I spent a bonus upgrading to the Arc last year. The Arc is major improvement in sound quality, and this set up works fine in a typically small ( by U.S standards ) UK lounge. Volume is usually only set between 28-38. The only downside is that I do always have the “ah but what if I had a Gen3” in the back of my mind, a but I can’t see that need it, at the volume that I listen.

regarding the response curve at 7:20, this seems to be an issue, well "issue" with the sub mini as well, where as you increase the volume, even the sub mini isnt able to keep up with the arc, and the bass gets pulled back significantly. When I first experienced this I thought I was loosing my marbles, but this makes so much sense. This is why I feel like the gen 3 is much more suited for the arc

Have the sub mini and the bigger brother sub gen 3. I am under the impression that the sub mini is lacking if you like to turn the volume up, watch Dolby atmos movies or music with a lot of oomph on a higher volume. On lower volumes the difference becomes negligible, but I’d still advise to save up a bit more and get the bigger subwoofer. The difference in quality as it gets louder is huge.

I added a Sub Mini to my surround setup with Beam Gen 2 and 2 Play:1's as surrounds and I am very pleased with the sound overall. I also added the Sub Mini to my Era 100 stereo set but then placement of the sub becomes crucial. Because the Sub Mini takes care of the lower frequencies the Era's sound thinner so the Sub Mini has to be placed somewhat in the middle to blend better with the Era's. I also would like the Sub Mini to be "more movable"... what I mean is when you want to use the Sub with music you have to remove it from from your Home Theater setup, add it to your stereo set, lose Trueplay Tuning settings, tune again... it is just too much hassle..

However, one wall of the TV Room is completely open to the Living Room, which is quite spacious. I have “hidden” my Sub beside a sofa which is only about 2’ from the opposite side of the open “wall” to the Living Room. I have always felt that I have been strangling the bass from the Sub because it is hidden beside the sofa with little space to breathe. Do you think it would be beneficial to move the Sub to the other side of the sofa where there is no real wall since it is open to the Living Room? Part of me feels that I am strangling the Sub response and that I would even be better with a Sub Mini if I am going to keep a sub where it is presently.

I have ARC with sub mini and 2 Era 100. Wish Sonos would allow for a second sub mini... from a business standpoint it doesn't make sense.. I ain't gonna buy the big one but I would gladly add a second sub mini
( sealed by the way not ported like the big one) let's hope they come up with a firmware update...😂😂😂

I originally had my Arc paired with a Sub Mini in my media room - but it's a fairly big room and it just wasn't cutting it for movie emersion for me, so I returned the Sub Mini to the living room and bought a Sub Gen 3 to pair with the Arc and Era 300's - it's night and day difference between the two as the Gen 3 you can feel the bass in your body - it's much more theatrical - whereas the Sub Mini just can't do that. The Sub Mini is fantastic for music though - I have it paired with a Beam Gen 2 and 2 Sonos Ones in the living room, and mostly the duty they serve is background music and occasional serious listening (sometimes for TV too), and for me it's just spot on for that.
I'm trying to decide if I should get a second Sub Gen 3 for the media room - my Aunt for some reason bought the same setup as my media room for her pretty small living room, then found that she had to turn the Sub Gen 3 off because it was just too overwhelming (which I would have told her if she'd asked) - thinking I might offer her some cash for the unused sub gen 3...

Untrue that smaller woofers are easier to drive than large. This is rarely true. Usually the opposite is true as larger are often more efficient. Also not true that sealed subs require less power, that usually need more power as they do not use the energy from the back of the cone like a reflex does.

Meh….if you go for the sub mini with and Arc…you are a peasant!!!!
Shush with the “but my room is small”….then why buy the Arc? The beam is a better solution for you.
Don’t be a peasant, save and get the Sub that matches your sound bar.
