I’ve had the Nakimachi Shockwafe 9.2.4 and LGC9 65” for over a year now. The Dolby Vision experience is amazing! The sound that comes threw the Nakimachi is fantastic! Jonah is right about the rear speaker experience with sounds coming from all around you. Great video Jonah!!!! Looking forward to your next video! Maybe another live stream with a different guest.
I think the Samsung HW-Q90r sound bar from 2019 will be the best ever...because of the price targ a lot of consumers couldn’t get hands on.. I’m using the sound bar for the next 20yrs
In India you will get a 5.1 soundbar with 2 physical sorround speakers under 150 USD , like Zebronics Juke Bar 9400 . I don't know whether we can call it a proper sorround sound system but I think it's much better than those dynamic sourround sound system.
Jonah, I hope you can test how well Samsung Q-Symphony works. The idea is to get the TV speakers and Samsung soundbar to work together. There may be other TV manufacturers who also make audio equipment to offer this.
I’d love to see a video of your review for the Apple HomePod’s as an atmos system. They are pretty impressive for producing 3D sound with two speakers. It can be comparable to the high-end lines.
What about the Sony HT-9A when it’s finally released. I believe it’s great if you have a high end Sony TV as you can use that as the centre speaker (possibly the HT-A9 is only for those with Sony TVs?). I love the fact you can separate the front speakers like in a traditional Surround-sound system for better separation.
If I can get Sony to work with me, then I'll definitely be doing a video on it! You're right though, you have to use a Sony TV in order to get the center channel audio, I believe.
Great video! What wasn't clear for me though was, why you would suggest getting a Sonos Arc instead of a Sonos Beam when your video is actually focusing on surround sound (virtual vs real) and both the Arc and the Beam DO offer that when connected with two One SL in the back.
Great point! Yeah when I meant Sonos Beam I meant it by itself and by Arc, I meant the Arc, One SLs and Sub. But totally should’ve mentioned that you can connect One SLs to the Beam.
i'm wanting to have surround sound for my pc, but finding a sound card with 7.1 surround sound, but several sound cards i see have virtual surround sound for 7.1. so i'm pretty much stuck with 5.1. so...this video did help
Unfortunately my room is small..i want the Sonos Arc but literally no space..so.i "had" to buy the best Soundbar with virtual rear speakers. Sennheiser Ambeo and i love it!
I just bought a new Samsung UHD 65 inch TV and I'm getting an echo on the right side a booming sound along with the Audio I tried adjusting all sound settings and I get the same thing every time I'm using DISH as my receiver any idea what my problem is?
5:17 suggestion for a sound demo: maybe try a binaural audio recording method with a microphone by 3DIO for example or even the Sennheiser Ambeo Smart Headset so then your viewers only have to wear headphones to be able to experience the surround sound
Had my Virtual-X soundbar for almost a year before I figured out how bad it was and disabled it. Sounds much more normal now. I don't have surround but who cares? Directional is what I'm used to.
Jonah, have you already seen the announcement of the sony HT-A7000 soundbar and HT-A9 speaker systems? According to some early reviews it’s said to sound better than the sonos arc setup😱
Yes Sir. Its like magic we just did a setup 4 of those Sony Speakers + new Soundbar 7000 2 massive subs +TV . He's in a penthouse condo 9' ceilings . it did not matter where we placed them and all could be at different heights . Just like my 2021 LG by itself creates a 5.1.2 I added TCL Alto9+ 4 bed RM. 👍 Wonder if the Solid wood dresser and acoustically tuned RM helps? Cathedrals don't have actual speakers 360° how is that? Living room has $3500 Klipsch WISA back yard has 2×15"Cerwin Vegas in the ground to give outside TV depth. Is that phony? Acoustics 101
So I have a Vizio soundbar that support Dolby Atmos it has a direct and movie settings. Does direct setting better for movies and does direct settings support Dolby Atmos?
Hey man, great video. I've been watching all of your videos lately they are all very informative. In a previous video you mentioned that you use an nVidia Shield TV to do a lot of your testing. Could you talk a little bit more about your nVidia Shield TV setup? I am trying to set up a really basic home theater setup with the JBL Bar 9.1 based on that same video, but my TV doesn't support Atmos natively. So I was thinking of getting the Shield to get access to Atmos. Do you connect your Shield directly to the soundbar, and then the soundbar to the TV? And if so does the JBL Bar 9.1 support that configuration?
That's absolutely correct! Nvidia Shield TV connects to the Soundbar's HDMI input, then HDMI output from the soundbar to the TV. I have a plex media server where I put a lot of my test movies that have Dolby TrueHD audio, but also use Netflix, Hulu, etc. as well. The Nvidia Shield TV Pro is literally one of the best media streamers out there!
What happened to the HTIB systems including receiver/amplifier and speakers? Have any new ones been released in 2021? I've been using a Panasonic SC-HT56 5.1 system for the past 13 years in my 13x13ft listening room and have been very happy with it. Two surround speakers are on the ceiling on each side of my listening couch. The wires are all in place and am looking for something to replace it within a few years. The reason is NextGen TV which promises lossless Dolby/DTS transmission with goodies like Atmos thrown in. I will need a system that supports eARC to connect to the TV instead of the current optical connection. Do you think I will have to settle for a soundbar based system they way things are going? Is the Samsung Q850A that BestBuy sells might be a good fit for my needs if I felt like updating now?
Hello, i have samsung hwq60t which is 5.1 soundbar+ sub. and i bought swa 8500 additional rear speakers. When they are connected do they do 7.1 or its 5.1 because the decoding is in dolby digital or dts only ?
Can you tell me what is the best way to connect LG C1 to Samsung qw 950A to get best quality output from soundbar. Additionally I will be connecting a PS4/PS5 and dish network.
Lots of information on your channel! Do you know anything about the delay with sound bars and using Dolby Atmos through arc or earc? I see it mentioned more with the Xbox series X since PS5 supposedly does not support Atmos.
That has changed. The PS5 now supports Dolby Atmos for all titles supporting 3D Sound. Which is almost the entirety of its library. Also contrary to how the XBOX work it has no lag whatsoever. Mainly due to a seperate processing unit in charge of dealing with the sound.
Hi! New subbie here! Just want to ask coz we bought the 55” QN90A and our media room right now is situated in a loft with lower ceiling and around 250sqft of space I guess. My question is, do we go with the HW-Q800A or the HW-Q900A. We won’t be adding a rear speaker for sure coz our sofa is already on the wall. Could you give me an expert advice? Thanks!
@@JonahMatthes I know! Here in Canada HW-Q900A is on sale now. I can get it for 800USD (incl taxes). I just dont know if the loft area if it opens to below your main floor would have a problem dissipating the sound nicely.
bro, you forgot to mention JBL 5.1 with detachable rear speakers, these are wireless rear speakers, and the price is considerably lower compared to other brands, but, still offer superb sound quality.
Hey Jonah I need your expert advice. I’m getting the Sony x91j 85” tv. It has 4 2.1 hdmi ports. One port is earc, what 2.1 hdmi cables do you recommend. I need 15 ft. In length. Give me reasonable prices not those $150 hdmi cables. Get back to me ASAP. Thanks Nick

@@hudders11 they make a huge difference. I have the regular surround speakers not the surround speakers 700. It's seriously a game changer. If I were you, look for the 300 dollar ones. Well. I have a 11.1.4 q950a. I can activate or deactivate the extra channels on any content. When a 5.1 content is using all channels, the experience IS more imersive, it is harder to spot where the speaker is, you hear sounds from all sides, not from spots. You really have to hear to get it.
ARC setup or q950a has been my debate with myself. I know you put together a video a while back about this, but that was before you had the 5s and 2 subs. Is the price difference worth it? I'd definitely be going 5s and 2 subs. I've never experienced Atmos, but that's a huge deal for me.
Man, if you have the money and you're okay investing that much into a Sonos system, then go for it. It's absolutely incredible! The upward sound effects with the Q950A are better, but the overall sound from the Sonos system is much better.
Yeah it's a virtual 5.0.2 but sounded pretty decent by itself when I ran with just that for a while, more than decent. Then I got the rear SL's and was annoyed I'd been without rear surround for decades. The Atmos part of the whole thing is something I can't notice much. I can't tell a normal 5.1 soundtrack from Atmos if I am being honest, but it all sounds great.
Virtual surround is definitely a gimmick if the soundbar only has two driver cones. You'd be 💯 % much better off buying a similarly priced PC speaker set or powered HiFi bookshelf monitors (both options with Bluetooth and subwoofers of course) and connecting them directly to your TV's headphone/Line output, and then using the virtual surround sound features built-in to the TV. You'll save yourself spending money on features/services you already have (either in your TV or mobile phone) and you'll save yourself using up a precious HDMI input on your TV. Don't bother with connecting via optical as the virtual surround of the TV won't pass through, there is the usual issue of jitter and delay/lip-sync, and you won't be able to use your TV remote to control volume.

Physical surround sound is BS with gaming setups unless you want to set up your computer desk somewhere in the middle of the room like a movie room.
