    Recovery time is important, but much less in importance than the final results and, obviously, the lack of complications. Thanks for this video.

      Hi P F,
      You're welcome. You are right that safety, and final results are of utmost importance , but facelifts done with local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia has made it more accessible to working people. In the past, facelifts required a lot of time off work, or people who could afford prolonged downtime.

    Thanks for the video. My question is on recovery time. I had a facelift few years ago. Surgeon assured me it was an "SMAS" facelift . Lot of excess skin was removed. Had it under general anesthesia (surgeon told me it was pretty long procedure. IIRC, he said ~2 hours) and was released from the hospital the next morning. My recovery time was very short. Was out walking and driving within 2 days. No problems. Bit swelling around cheeks but nobody really noticed. Wore a face bandage for about 1-2 days I think. IIRC, about 8 stitches behind each ear which were removed about a week later... Does this short recovery suggest that I did not have a "full strength" facelift? In other words, a true full strength SMAS facelift should result in longer recovery time.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Raul Tennis,
      It's difficult to say without the details of your surgery. You could have had a SMAS facelift involves the tightening of the facial muscles. Generally, there is less skin removal and tightening with a man as compared to a woman because of the male hairline affecting how far back the incisions can be placed. Without your medical records, I can't tell you definitively.
      If you want to improve results further, you can look into addressing bone volume loss due to aging, which can be treated with deep placement of filler. Facelifts don't address volume loss, but it's as significant factor as tissue descent. You can refer to these videos about the effects of this treatment:

    I had a facelift 15 months ago, and since then, my left eyebrow has been immobile. It has a little movement at the end of the brow, and that’s all. I have lost my facial expression, and I feel so worried that it will stay that way. I started physical therapy and electrotherapy. I have used Proserin and Nuclo injections, but none of these have helped. What can I do? I do not want to have botox in the right side

      Sorry to hear about your problem. You should continue following up with your surgeon, and our other doctors. Nerve damage is a risk in facelift surgery, and this is the likely cause of your problem. Nerve damage often resolves with time, so waiting as your doctors described is also part of the course of action. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Bint Batuta,
      I wouldn't recommend only 5 days of recovery time since you are doing some pretty extensive surgery, and sutures usually require removal after a week, so that alone would prevent you from flying back home so soon. I suggest you discuss your initial recovery plan with your surgeon so you have a better idea of when to return home. I hope this helps you.

    Hello Dr.! Question! Can the platysma muscles swell after a corset platysmaplasty? Two weeks after my surgery, it seems I don't have the dramatic angle I thought and was wondering if this was normal. Also, swelling under the chin by the incision, do steroid injections calm this down? What is the rate of a platysmaplasty failing or needed a revision? Thank you!! Love your videos!!!!

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 лет назад +4

      Hi StarSpun Enterprises,
      The platysma muscles can swell after surgery as it's part of the healing process, and the swelling can still be present after two weeks, which is all within normal range of surgical recovery. The same post-surgical swelling can happen in the incision area, and two weeks is too soon after surgery to be overly concerned. As for the rate of a platysmaplasty needing revision, there is no number that covers all procedures, but it really depends on the doctor performing it, and techniques used. I can't give you an exact recommendation without seeing you in consultation, but you can bring any concerns to your performing surgeon as they know details of your surgery and your anatomy. I hope this helps you, and thank you for watching!

    I am researching the benefits of a general vs local and must admit I am scared of being awake but feeling complete numbness of the mouth, eg not being able to swallow, or feel my tongue, when using sedation and local for a SMAS/necklift. Has any patient ever experienced this frightening phenomena?

      Hi Judi LeBlanc,
      The purpose of sedation is to put you in a twilight straits of consciousness so you are relaxed and not anxious. This type of reaction is rare to non-existent with the LITE sedation I use in my practice. Sedation and local can be adjusted at the time of your procedure, and you can discuss any worries with your doctor in consultation prior to any procedure. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Tina Soriano,
      I've been using the advanced wound healing material extracellular matrix by the company ACell on facelift incisions for more than a decade. You need to talk to your surgeon about your allergy ahead of your procedure, as antibiotic ointment will be needed on incisions for at least a couple of days after surgery, even if they do use extracellular matrix like I do. I hope this helps you.

It's still very itchy today even with taking benadryl. Thanks again. Obviously im very concerned about my results and recovery if I must have antibiotic ointment and I can't.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 года назад

      Hi@@TinaSoriano,
      Vaseline or Aquaphor are used after antibiotic ointment, in my patients usually 3 days after surgery, to prevent an allergic reaction or contact dermatitis from prolonged use of antibiotic ointment. You need to discuss options with your surgeon as I can't do skin testing myself. Your surgeon knows your skin, and can even change your scheduled surgery if further allergic testing is needed. I hope this helps you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 года назад +2

      Hi Anna Aylmer,
      Since warfrain is a blood thinner, it could cause excessive bleeding during a facelift, which makes the procedure unsafe. You would have to be off the drug for considerable amount of time if you were to consider having a facelift. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    My friend just had deep plane and two months later she still has puffy face. It takes six months to final result!

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Год назад +3

      Hi @kamankat,
      Length of recovery greatly depends on how the surgery was done, such as type of anesthesia, expedited healing on incisions, etc. While close to final results can be seen in 6 months with maybe just a little post-op swelling, full surgical recovery takes a full year. A little temporary swelling can actually make facelift results look even better as it appears as added volume, especially since facelifts alone without filler or facial implants don't treat age-related facial volume loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @kamankat
      @kamankat 9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi@@kamankat,
      I usually perform facelifts using local anesthesia for greater patient comfort, and faster healing. With the effects of general anesthesia so taxing on the body, it does prolong surgical healing. I hope this clarifies things further for you.

    Would a woman after 60 can have her own fat as face fillers?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Mihaela Wachsman,
      Without a physical exam to confirm if it's the right procedure, it is possible. However, take note that fat transfer is a surgical procedure, and since 30-70% of transferred fat can be absorbed by the body, at least two procedures may be needed. Also note that harvesting fat is also a surgical procedure, as well as the actual transfer. You can consider cosmetic facial fillers like Juvederm and Restylane, which can be done in minutes without surgery, and are more predictable since they are safely metabolized over 1-2 years. I hope this clarifies things for you.
