As a left/1hander, I like watching your vids. Trying to learn singles strategy. Are you still using the tips your old coach gave you in that video about focussing on the Zone of Truth? I think he also wanted you to avoid slicing the BH return? I see a lot of videos that say percentage tennis is to keep going crosscourt and deep (not really the zone of truth) and I am not sure when to hit my FH DTL as they can usually run it down and get a racquet on it... also I thought your old coach wanted you to serve more Wide serves on the Deuce side? He said something like it opens up space? Do you feel the same way?
Hey - I’m glad you like the vids! 1. Yes, I still generally hit a topspin BH on the returns as my coach suggested. Just depends on the day really. Some days I’m feeling my returns and others, not so much. Worst case scenario, even if I hit a terrible chip return, I want them to hit one more shot, which is better than missing the return altogether. I’d say 85% of my BH returns are topspin 2. I usually go DTL whenever I created enough space on the righty’s BH to stretch them on their FH side. Ideally that’ll then create space on their BH side. Nothing wrong with going crosscourt and deep by default. My coach was just advising to keep in mind to be opportunistic in creating space because the better players can take advantage of the high percentage play if they see it coming. Sometimes I go DTL to juke them 3. I tried for a few months but my 1st serve percentage took a huge hit and I found that my flat serve is too high risk considering my height and the fact that there’s no spin on it. Also my lefty slice improved a lot so I decided go back to sliding it down the T on the deuce side. Although, I have been working on hitting slice serves out wide so that it jams the righty’s FH. So technically, I’m still following what my coach said lol
@@TricksterKev cool, I l iked how some of your T serves (in this and other matches) make him cross the center line to return. What about the Zone of Truth? Is that a default or just when you feel confident? Thanks for your feedback/analysis.
Generally the more you can hit the FH in that zone the better, but of course if you’re not feeling confident on a given day then you’ll need to go deep crosscourt to avoid giving your opponent free points with unforced errors
Good stuff
Great playing as always. As a fellow lefty and 1h if you’re ever visiting the west coast/Cali hmu to play
Oscar's got the 5.0 version of Djokovic's serve/forehand and 5.0 version of Federer's backhand

Oscar called a few important shots out. 😂😅
Which ones? I thought his calls were fair, if anything I called a ball I hit out when he thought it was in
