Atrocious rule book - one of the very worst examples in the whole industry.
The web-based FAQ is equally bad, with half the FAQ's missed.
Even their RUclips videos explaining how to play the game miss out half the bloody rules, with one of their videos so poorly edited with clearly content having been accidentally deleted still hasn't been corrected since it was uploaded years ago.
And you didn't mention ANY of this in your "review"?!

Had to think back here a bit since this was 4 years ago. Surprised to read your comment because I can’t stand bad rulebooks and do usually comment on them… then I figured out what happened. Seth was the one who brought this over, taught me the game, and lent it to me for more plays and the review. I don’t think I actually ever used the rules on this one - it was a pretty easy play once he taught it. Perhaps just to look up the special cards at a later point.
Returned it to him literally years ago, so can’t flip it open and check. If I ever see a copy again I’ll look though, I’m super curious now.

@@GamingwithEdo Ironically, the game itself - if one has a very high level of perseverance to figure out the truly abysmal rules (so many questions crop up during play, including with the Crane Wife expansion) - is terrific. But, as I say, everytime we get it to the table, the first few hours are just so frustrating until things settle down.
We keep it because, deep down, it's decent. Just soooo poorly designed.

@@charliemopic470 Yeah - I do recall enjoying the idea of it. Don't know that it really went anywhere in the market place. Checked on BGG, this _might_ help? boardgamegeek.com/filepage/156141/illimat-luminaries-quick-reference

@@GamingwithEdo Thank you, but that link doesn't help (already seen, but thank you).
After another three hours of trying to learn the game again, we've just completely given up with abject frustration.
This is what's wrong with the hobby space. Utter saturation, frequently poor rules, with perpetually ageist design. We're walking away.
