Use a micro fiber cloth, dawn dish, soap, warm water. Then use non jell tooth paste. Rub on the lenses. Repeat on both lenses . You can buy a kit with similar products.
A good hack with WD40 is to use it to clean windshield wipes blades when they start streaking. It removes the grime from the blades and they work good again.
You want to fix them for good? Take 1000 grit sandpaper and sand the lenses down while using running water like from a hose. The water must be running constant so there is no buildup of particles. Then take Rubbing compound and buff out the lenses. You can do this either by hand or by a high speed buffer. Then take a lighter compound and finish up to a buffed out semi-shine. Now the final step, use pure carnauba wax and rub this into the lens until it's completely gone. You'll have brand new looking headlights. Please note: Only works (Obviously) on the outside of the lenses. A lot of what causes this oxidation is the heat from the bulbs themselves plus the environment depending on where you live in the world.
It's a lot easier if you start with 400 grit to get rid of the remaining clear coat. 1000 grit won't do it very quickly. Go up 200 grit at a time until you hit 2000, then do 2500 & 3000. Polish with a buffer & buffing compound. Then seal with urethane if you so desire. I've been using ceramic buffing compound. Lasts about a year. Just buff it again.
I've used the meguiar's, turtle wax, and armor all products. But these cost between 25 and 27 dollars. Preferred the meguiar's kit myself l, drill attachment with different sanding disks and polishing head, with a headlight wax. I prefer to clearcut the lens for long term fix personally. Alternatively you can piece together your own sandpaper, 250, 500, 1000, 2500, 5000 but locally no one sells anything close to 2000 grit
Klarlack mit UV Beständigkeit wurde bei mir vor 6 Jahren an einem Toyota Yaris gemacht. Der musste alle Monate poliert werden. Jetzt muss ich schon seit 6 Jahren nix mehr machen. Nur waschen. Erfolg.
You can do the same with faded plastic bumpers, grills and fender trims using any type of oil but they'll stay looking better longer than those headlights will. Lights have a painted on clear coat that fades over time, you have to use super fine grit sandpaper to removed it, then either resptay them with a clearcoat paint or keep them waxed so they dont oxidize again.
I saw video which this guy used off with deed in it and I had the same problem with the headlights on my truck and I sprayed it on and boy they came clean instantly I was very surprised Good tip
This is completely unrelated to content of the video but you have a wonderful voice. I have had a terrible headache today and listening to your videos has been so soothing. I appreciate how you talk about everything really calmly.
Best way to clean head light's is bug spray, like mosquito spray is the best, my head light's were really bad and the bug spray left them pretty much like new , and it lasted for almost a year.
I met the guy who invented WD 40 back in the 80's He had 2 daughters Their names started with the initials W & D And he was 40 years old at the time He invented it WD-40
It's oil effectively. The same thing would likely happen with Olive Oil. It's probably just filling in pits in the plastic. The next rain or just time will erase any of the effects. Clouding on the lenses is from UV rays damaging the plastic. A better long term solution would probably be a method that could permanently resurface the lense to smooth it out.
Here's how you actually clean headlights: Step 1) Cover the edges around the headlight (painted part of car) with masking tape. Step 2) use 600 grit sandpaper in up and down then side to side motions. Then use higher grit until about 2000 grit. (600, 1200, 1600, 2000). The lower the grit, the rougher the sandpaper. Also try to avoid sanding the same spot too long and try to keep your fingers as flat as possible. Press lightly. It's like brushing your teeth, not digging a hole. Step 3) Use wax and a microfiber rag (or a buffer) to coat the headlight to prevent it from being damaged from UV Rays. (do step 3 2-3 times a year minimum, or once a month if you own something like a corvette and don't want to replace those expensive ass headlights).
After this if you go home and eat for 15 minutes, when you come back they'll be dirty again😄 you need to clean them with water and 800 grit sand papers, then again with 1200 grit sandpaper and water, dry them, then used a good headlights plastic wax and spray headlights protector.
Toothpaste often works but you have to do both inside and outside. But I had to replace mine. Nothing helped, not even the stuff to uncloudy them worked.
I replaced mine with new ones. All this crap does not work. It’s all hype believe me. I tried them all. Finally gave up and replaced them with new ones. I can finally see at night.❤️
Theres 2 ways to fix this. Before they get this way use plexus to protect the plastic. I apply it once a month. A thin coat is all you need. If they are already bad you can buy a kit to fix them. The best one is from 3M. All you need is an electric drill gun and follow the directions. Afterwords I suggest getting a can of Plexus to protect your work and keep the plastic clear.
It works because u stil have a factory film over the headlight if u dont have that any more because that is what he is removing whit wd40 sow when u domt have that any kore u should sand it whit wet sand paper whit fine grits and than polihs
Tried WD-40 before and it didn’t do a thing. If there is anything that really works, I still haven’t found it and I’ve tried several different things.🤔
The Chemistry Lesson Starts with Hatch Sanding up Then Across from 400 grit through to 2000 fine Then the Fun Starts Get Some ACETONE and with the Dexterity of a Window Cleaner Sweep this Chemical Across the PLASTIC one direction ONLY ONCE~ The ACETONE MELTS the PLASTIC and it Forms a NEW SKIN IN CLEAR BRIGHT FORM!!! ( Wear a Mask Tho )
Waste of time and WD-40. Buy a sanding kit, it`s the only thing that works. Best to do it by hand, the rotary drill things are fiddly and you can easily scratch the lens.
do the same with water, will be the same effect, once it dryes the lamp will look the same, with the wd40 it takes a little bit more because is oily, you are not cleaning nor removing anything from the lamp, if you do not sand the lamp and then polish it, you are just wasting your time and money
Check again in 10 mins
Worth a try!
It works but I think there's a protective coat that goes over it
Use a micro fiber cloth, dawn dish, soap, warm water. Then use non jell tooth paste. Rub on the lenses. Repeat on both lenses . You can buy a kit with similar products.

Just put a little vaseline on them. Works great!
Thanks
Now that’s a good tip
That's not grime. That's a factory graphite coating.
@@darkdeath2529 So grime doesn't build up on windshield wipers??? What world do you live in?
You can pee on the headlight and it will be as shiny for just as long.
LOLOLOLOL
😂😂😂😂Bro
Hilarious david
😂😂😂
That’s not true. If you spit on it or use saliva, it will work.
WD-40 works for 10 seconds, as soon as it dries it goes right back to where it was
Bug spray works the best, like Cutter, etc.Twice a year

In Canada it cost about 20 to 35 dollars to restore headlights properly. I know it is way cheaper in the states for the same products.
Why can't people hold the camera on their work when giving a 'tutorial'?
What do you use?
I've used the meguiar's, turtle wax, and armor all products. But these cost between 25 and 27 dollars. Preferred the meguiar's kit myself l, drill attachment with different sanding disks and polishing head, with a headlight wax. I prefer to clearcut the lens for long term fix personally.

Flitz polish does a pretty good job.
Whole car needs this done
😂
That’s a damn shame!! 😢
600 grit sand paper followed by 2000 grit. Clear coat with UV spray paint… you’re welcome
No don't use clear coat - it damages the optics, causes the light to diffuse.
Klarlack mit UV Beständigkeit wurde bei mir vor 6 Jahren an einem Toyota Yaris gemacht. Der musste alle Monate poliert werden. Jetzt muss ich schon seit 6 Jahren nix mehr machen. Nur waschen. Erfolg.
I did this and it lasted over 5 years😂
@@ScottChegg-ob5zr you did what? The first or the last? Asking for myself. Mine need it bad
4-0000 steel wool followed by a Meguar product worked great for me.
I poor Cuban coffee on it and it works but make sure you put cream and sugar in it

I think you meant deet. It works on headlight covers, but just think about what putting that crap on your skin does. Yuck!
its called DEET
Only problem which most people probably already know by now, that this is temporary. It will go back to being foggy again within a couple of days.
apply uv coat for that
apply clear UV protective coating
Yeah once it drys it goes away

Listen to Scott Michael's voice on Dearly Departed!
As much as cars cost they should be free. My 54, 56, 61, 65, 67, 71,73, 75, 77, 80, 84,91 were cheap and never faded😂😂
And cheap to replace if they burned out. It's too bad people today don't know how bad they are getting ripped off
Dude, learn how to aim the camera at the subject (headlight). Will help you in your future videos.
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅😅😅 if a laugh louder mi must get bellybutton ache😂😂😂😂😂😂
I've heard Colgate Toothpaste with whitening additive is quite good as well .
Only Colgate toothpaste??
It works short term only.
Best way to clean head light's is bug spray, like mosquito spray is the best, my head light's were really bad and the bug spray left them pretty much like new , and it lasted for almost a year.
Nice thanks 😊😌
OFF bug spray works the best.. 👍🏻
More deet the better...
Hi sir do u have any names of spray. I from Canada
Do you spray it on and scrub or just wipe off? 😮
Mother’s brand or any brand Mag and Aluminum paste from an auto shop - about ten bucks. Plus a cloth and some elbow grease. Save a bundle.
I met the guy who invented WD 40
back in the 80's
He had 2 daughters
Their names started with the initials
W & D
And he was 40 years old at the time

WD-40
Wrong. It stands for Water Displacement and it was the 40th iteration of the formula.
"Water Displacement formula 40"
Haha. It was actually water dispersant 40th formulation try.
@@althunder4269
He invented it....
HE CAN NAME IT WHAT HE WANT TO
and you can say what you think as well
Good info
Why would you ever want to restore anything on a PT Cruiser:')
One of those amazing internet miracles
That's a short team fix 💩
WD-40 the wonder drug.
and last about as long as a hit of crack!
Mothers chrome polish = Magic
yup . put it on a buffer . 3 min . done
I just posted that but you beat me by three weeks!
How long will it last?

I top off with McGuire's headlight coating.
Works great but you have to do it every single day or it goes right back to the same way
Plus the road trash and bugs slides right off upon impact.👍
I wonder if it will have side effects to it 🤔 as bug spray does? Bug spry melts the plactic covering the lights, plus the fog returns. 🤔
I use WD-40 today on my fishing reels,I think that would cure arthritis shots of WD-40
Well, that was some less than stellar camera work.😮😂😂😂
This will last two days. This needs to been danded, polished, and sealed.
After this if you go home and eat for 15 minutes, when you come back they'll be dirty again😄 you need to clean them with water and 800 grit sand papers, then again with 1200 grit sandpaper and water, dry them, then used a good headlights plastic wax and spray headlights protector.
What was blue stuff on that paper towel?
when the fog is on the inside (cold/wet climates) you're basically f'd
Toothpaste often works but you have to do both inside and outside. But I had to replace mine. Nothing helped, not even the stuff to uncloudy them worked.
It comes back and the sun will dry it and it may start cracking. I use off bug spray and am amazed how long it has lasted
We use Off!
That's a " I'm selling this thing " technique.
Lucky the first daughter wasn't called Veronica.
Sandpapier with 2000 then coat light Layer and After 5 min thick layer clear varnish finish like new
🎉 Does it last? How long?
It will work but you do need to do it again every couple of months. Works as good as stuff that costs a lot of money.
Didn't see transformation, you filmed the hood instead of the light.
Mosquito repellent with DEET works. Only use it if your lights are beyond gone.
А я слышал что надо еще ослиной мочи 100 гр добавить и выпить и фары становятся как с завода
excellent advice.i tried it and it worked like a charm
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If you want the real answer after wd40, rewash with soap and water and let dry, they will shortly return to cloudy!
They are a special spray for head light it really work.
Books shiny but it won't take away the cloudiness
Thats just for 10 min again it will turn back to old colour
I replaced mine with new ones. All this crap does not work. It’s all hype believe me. I tried them all. Finally gave up and replaced them with new ones. I can finally see at night.❤️
You can also spit on it then stand in front of it do a African tribal dance and boom. New headlight cover
Nope, as soon as it dries you're back to clouded.

THIS JUST DIRTY OR OLD LIGHTS WITH OXIDIZED PLASTIC?
But .........does it stay that way?
Only works for couple hours. Then fog reappears.
Put acetone in a beer can place a hose for a spout heat with a heat gun the acetone vapour takes off the oxidation
Thanks now I'm in the hospital with burns all over me and my car is burnt

Was gonna say, probably only need like an 8th of a teaspoon or less. Just enough to vapor but still dangerous.
Yes. The flames will

Transmission fluid works too but only last few days.. Needs replacing
brake fluid works too . chemical reaction
Seal is broke ya'll need to break down and get new head lights 😅
Thank you
Would be useful when you will go get your car inspected. But not useful for daily day driving
After Clean must need spray of Clear UV protect . Get in Auto zona o Advance.

DOES NOT WORK. The effects are only temporary.

What else works. My headlights are messed up
in a couple of days or weeks it wil come back as it was.
Solution for amateurs ;-)
Try a tube of ordinary toothpaste and a buffer and the shit dont come back, lt stays polished.
Non è ASSOLUTAMENTE VERO !!!! Dopo pochi minuti torna come prima ......😢

Pretty sure the only way to really fix those headlights is to sand it down with progressively finer sandpaper, then seal it.

I use saran wrap.
