    I’m a 71 year old female. I’m the original owner of a 2004 Honda Accord with only 61K miles. Last evening I was positive my headlights weren’t working. There were areas of my route I had to use high beams. When I got home, I discovered they were working but the lens were so cloudy very little light was getting through. I texted some male friends and said they can be cleaned for $100-300. I discovered your video! I have the Mr Clean magic erasers. I just used a couple days ago to clean the white edge of my tennis shoes. I will buy the spray protectant and clean ASAP. Thank you for your excellent tutorial. I have been able to diagnose and fix several problems myself by watching Utube videos. I will let you know how my application goes. Thank you from Dallas

    Use a small foam pad on a drill instead of a toothbrush, and you will get much better results. Then put a coat of wax on it and buff it out. When you've done that, use a nano wax product of your choice on the headlights, and follow up with a clean foam pad and you will have the best looking headlights around. Good luck with your restoration project, take care, and stay safe.

I'm waiting for the Sylvania kit to get here, but wanted to start the cleaning process so it'll be less work, and needed something that wouldn't leave residue. I was SO happy using the baking soda method, it was amazing, wish I knew of it earlier. I used a heavy paste and repeated it twice, 5-8 min each. And even in your mouth and throat, you have a constant supply of saliva and mucus that minimize any damage, much less the effects you see on plastic. And If you never brush your teeth with fluoride the sugar from the soda will lead to much more damage than any acid.

    I had heard that you could pay to have someone else clean the headlights. I am 65 and on a fixed income. Your video helped me with my headlights. I favor the toothpaste and soft cloth method. I have assigned parking and drive less than 3,000 miles per year. So, I like the toothpaste result as it last longer for me due to my reduced driving. In a small town you only add up so much mileage. Thanks for your helpful tutorial.😊

    WD40 works great for cleaning headlights. I live in AZ with lots of sun so a little WD 40 every now and then cleans those lights good without using expensive stuff.

      If you want an effortlessly method coca cola is a great option. 20 - 30 mins should be good, just make sure to keep the paper towel moist all the time.
      The other good method you can try is the one with the baking soda.
      Or you can do both of this at the same time.
      Start with the coca cola and then to fine tune it, with the baking soda.
      Once the lenses are cleaner, its very important to put some type of sealant or coating to keep them lasting. I actually did mine long time ago and didn't put anything afterwards, but after a few months the lights started to look a lil yellowish (because no protectant)

    • @CrazyCarMods
      @CrazyCarMods  2 года назад +7

      For the protectant you can use a polish. Can be car polish or aluminum polish. This will protect your headlights from uv rays.
      Or you can just use Plastic X from meguiars (I have a link in the description) as a polish. This product is like $7 in walmart, it not only helps to protect but it also cleans.
      Hope, that helps. 👍

      I just use acetone nail polish remover. Makes them crystal clear in one pass. Don't make more than one pass...additional passes cause the fog again. Don't get it on the paint.

    Nice video. These are great hacks, especially if you have hazy headlights and you're going to the car lot to trade in your klunker. The only real way to actually have long lasting results is to sand the headlight lenses with several different grades of sand paper ending up with a 3600 to 4000 grit wet sanding cloth or paper. Then use a special clear coat that does not build up on the lenses.

    Great video! I'd just used a bought restoral kit, which uses 800-1200-2000 grit wet&dry sandpaper, then a buffing compound, followed by a gloss coat which smells like glue. It gave a good outcome for $25Au.

    How do you cover your car safely from the clear coat (the least expensive way)? Also, do you need to cover your paint job of your car when using any of these hacks? (or was this more to highlight your testing areas and controls?) I’m most likely going to use the baking soda/hydrogen peroxide/white vinegar method.
    Thank you for your thorough and thoughtful demo of these headlight restoration hacks!! Very much appreciated 😃🙏

    • @CrazyCarMods
      @CrazyCarMods  Месяц назад

      When using vinegar, make sure to cover your paint. Vinegar is not going to damage your paint if it touches it, but if you leave residue on the paint, plus with the sun rays (heat), then that might be an issue. So make sure to rinse your paint from any products you use.
      Also, if applying the clear coat, you do want to cover your paint. You can use plastic bags, or you can buy some thin plastic sheets in walmart or Home Depot (should only be a few dollars) $3 to $5. When spraying, try it on a piece of cardboard or something. You can spray many light coats. Dont worry about covering all the surface, let it dry, and apply thin coats. It will all be covered eventually. This way, you will avoid over spraying the headlight. Good Luck 👍
