I got an RG Nano too and I love it so much. It has quickly become my most used device just like how my tiny mini Rubik’s cube became one of my favorite items too - it’s small enough to live in my purse. If I could change anything I agree that I would want a different screen ratio. It could have smaller borders too, like to become a tiny miyoo mini (“micro?”). Or a tiny metal clamshell build?? If this uses g2menu, you think we can side life OPK application on it? I wonder if connecting the USB can allow for FTP access into the device like the RG350 series.
You need to get all three colors and put them all on one keychain, that would be so baller! Also, looking at the RetroFE interface, I don't see an option to launch Arcade/MAME, is it there? If not, then sadly I would have to use the original menu system just for that.
Right now the Nano is on sale and finally hit the $45 price point for me to pull the trigger. Perfect to take to the bar with me and play thru old school rpgs.

@@skycloud4802 Exactly. These micro-consoles can be more than just novelty items if they have some actual use case niches. I just purchased my first Chinese retro emulation handheld last night. It's the $20 Data Frog SF2000. I knew about it a few months ago from Sonic Love Emulation. Then I saw TechDweeb talk about it recently and then I went, why the hell not? I'm a cheap MFER when it comes to gaming. I mean, why are some of us into retro emulation? To download FREE games! I swore to never buy one of these since I already have an Essential Phone, Pixel 3, Razr 5G, Galaxy Z Flip 3, modded PSP slim, and modded Vita slim to emulate all those old games. And I nearly got the Razr+ yesterday. TechDweeb and his nerdy, nasal voice got me convinced. If it sucks, I'll just gift it to my nephews in the Philippines. They make perfect Kris Kringle gifts. I figured I wanted this because I love the SNES controller so much and I needed a backup to my Vita and PSP in case their buttons starts wearing off. A lot of old games, there's tons of button mashing. The Data Frog has a really nice form factor that I prefer over $60+ ones. I could easily just get an Abernic or Miyoo Mini Plus. But why spend 3-5x more and I have smartphones more powerful than them? Plus, I'm not the biggest fan of portrait handhelds. Miyoo Mini would start feeling cramped. I prefer landscape handhelds. With a bad economy, it's all about being as frugal as we can. ROG Ally might be better than a Steam Deck, but I'll get the cheapest Deck to save $200-$300. I think the SF2000 is going to be fun. It's a cheap handheld you can throw in a bag and not care if it breaks. I'm aware it's not great with SNES and GBA emulation. The irony with the SNES. A handheld that looks like an SNES controller but can't play SNES games well. I'm fine with that. NES, Genesis, and MAME are good enough for me. I'm constantly playing the MAME version of Super Street Fighter II on my modded Vita using RetroArch. Great time-killer. I'm going to play a lot of Street Fighter II': Special Champion's Edition on the SF2000. I mean, ETA Prime paid $15 to get that McNugget handheld that had only Tetris. SF2000 seems way better than that. A Sega Nomad goes for $250+ minimum on eBay. The Data Frog plays Genesis, NES, GB, and GBC well. The NES and Genesis emulation alone is worth the $20.
As a "Key-Chain" device, it's like 90's "key-chain" beanies. Not really for your keys, but backpacks and such. I expect Zipper-Chain isn't quite as catchy.
The real question is how this compares to the Miyoo Mini V2 (not the plus). Id love to see a size comparison. I have a feeling the mini would be the way to go while not being that much bigger
I realise this is an old comment so it’s more for anyone else with the same question: I have both the Miyoo Mini and the Funkey S. The size difference is significant. You can play games with no compromise on the Miyoo. The Funkey is certainly playable depending on the game you’re playing but the screen is slightly too small in my opinion, not to mention the compromise when games aren’t close to 1:1 resolution, they’re either stretched or even smaller. If you really want to play a lot, then get the Miyoo Mini. If you want something with the cute factor and super portability then get the Nano. I’m even getting the Nano since I hate having Micro USB on the Funkey.
I dig the form factor but let's be clear, for the price, no one is going to put that on a key chain and let it bang all over the place. It may be durable but I'd be timid everywhere I go with it on a key chain. It's pretty neat, just not for me.

imo, I don't know you need to do pro's cons. I get more people like summaries, but personally I like that your reviews just are what they are and should just be watched through. Like you watch it to know the details, not to just get a summary. But it probably helps get views so far be it from me to be a weirdo.
Taki, since I've been a long time sub, I feel the need to want to help you succeed with your channel. I have a great idea for you to increase views on most of your videos and will cost you all of a few seconds. Start linking your older video's that relate to the newer ones in comments. Take 5 seconds to mention the links in your videos. It's self promotion but done in a tolerable way to the viewer because for us, that's actually helpful especially if we're in the market to buy. If I see 2-3 links of relatable material in your comments, i'm clicking. Why wouldn't I? Wouldn't anyone? It benefits you as much as it benefits us the viewer.
I hope RG Nano and FunKey S (the latter more the first) would inspire any company to consider more user friendly devices for emulation, otherwise the only usefulness of these devices on a big perspective is to make the owners say to their friends "hey, look at my key ring device, it's cool and it works!" and nothing more than that 🙃Or maybe they can be considered just as an eye doctors and physiotherapists conspiracy against gamers
I really love the IDEA of this but I feel like it's not quite worth it at the price point. I'm still waiting for an affordable PSP replacement in a metal housing. That will definitely get my money.👀
Honestly I just want it to for Pokémon. Clip it on my bag and play it for 5-10minute sessions while on the go. I wish the companies making these realize they are good for handheld games so they don’t need Abxy..just ab.
Taki, thanks for these vidoes, man! I enjoy your content. In the AVS world that stop and go effect, or motion stutter, is referred to as "judder." Jitter is time distortions of recording/playback of a digital audio.... I know, I know, comments section (I can hear it now), "you must be really fun at parties." I've heard it all... God forbid we try to educate one another. int rant() { Also, no way on that display! It should have been 320x240 60Hz. *Most* PSX, 8-bit, and 16 bit systems ran games at either 256x224 to 320x240 with some fringe games running resolutions higher than that. So as you've shown, they look like crap because it has to scale horizontal resolution to fit on the screen. Plus, you said you even tried to use PAL ROMs to compensate for the refresh rate at 50Hz and it still judders? What a joke. Then you have Gameboy which has a 59.7 Hz refresh, so it's a mismatch for that, and the screen isn't an even multiplier of the GB resolution (160x144)... what the hell is this screen good for? Who was this even made for? As others have said, apparently for an ant arcade lol. The original Miyoo mini sold well because it struck a perfect balance between small size and usability. Anbernic should have copied that. This thing is just more ewaste. return 0 fcks given; }
I've seen a couple of terms thrown around for that. There's a testing suite that uses the term jank (big or small) to reference any deviation from the reference frame rate over a period of 10 minutes. For your second point, the original explanation that I got from the team that made the original device (the one that Anbernic cloned) was that they set it to 50Hz for bandwidth reasons. Outside of this application, the panel has the ability to go to 120Hz. When PowKiddy cloned the Funkey S, they shipped the device with only PAL ROMs to compensate/hide this issue. Anbernic shipped PAL and NA ROMs, but both of them have issues. They either have the issue that I showed here, or they run too fast/too slow. The best part is that a 3rd party dev ended up making 60Hz firmware back in March that runs on the Funkey S and the Q36, but it cannot run on this device. It's in testing now, but I don't do wishful thinking reviews. I bought this thing as a customer and this is how it actually is to use the device. Even when it gets that 60Hz patch, it won't be a good device. Largely due to the aspect ratio and the screen size.
@@TakiUdon I think "jank" should be the de-facto term now lol. Hmm. That's interesting. "bandwidth reasons" aka, we don't care if it's not working properly, people will still buy this sh!t. Well hopefully someone figures out how to get 60Hz on this device so that, at the very least, low res handhelds can be used on it without too much sacrifice. We need a real an OG Miyoo Mini successor. It's obviously what the people want as I still see plenty of users constantly asking about it on various Reddit subs.

Preloaded
The device is not worth it, since the RG35XX exists and you can just go play that and try out different stuff like batocera and garlic os.
def worth it, i love mine and its so fkin cute on top of it
Lipo battery as heat sink _terrifies_ me...
Form factor messes this one up for me. The screen is too long vertically.
5:46 I'll be honest that stretch is worse than what the GBA did to GB games.
imo, I don't know you need to do pro's cons. I get more people like summaries, but personally I like that your reviews just are what they are and should just be watched through. Like you watch it to know the details, not to just get a summary. But it probably helps get views so far be it from me to be a weirdo.
I agree with you.
I saw on another video for some reason if you change the aspect ratio you can get some struggling ps1 games to run fast
I love it😭😭😭😭
LPDDR2 ? Where did they get that ? Not in production for 15 years 🫠
The manual is bigger than the device itself, and it's a mini manual!!
Id get it if it was $20-30. $60+ is way too much.
Might as well get a 35xx or Miyoo mini.
If you put that thing next to Ken Jeong's junk it would look like an OG XBOX.
For some cozy gameboy and gameboy color games is nice. Poop break solved 😅
You should test Pepsiman for the PS1 emulation tests.
That Rg nano looks really small but cool too, games inside it looks great like Crash Bandicoot and Gameboy Pokémon games. 🔥🔥
I'll wait for the smartwatch version...
I really love the IDEA of this but I feel like it's not quite worth it at the price point. I'm still waiting for an affordable PSP replacement in a metal housing. That will definitely get my money.👀
It's not affordable, but retroid just announced the metal retroid pocket 3+ for $180
Honestly I just want it to for Pokémon. Clip it on my bag and play it for 5-10minute sessions while on the go.
I wish the companies making these realize they are good for handheld games so they don’t need Abxy..just ab.
Takii 😂 .. stop distracting us with your little toys! Where is your promised AYA NEO 2S content ? Don't be a stranger man 😘
Interesting, im not allowed to hit the bell icon for your channel. It just stays at silent, no notifications
Taki, thanks for these vidoes, man! I enjoy your content. In the AVS world that stop and go effect, or motion stutter, is referred to as "judder." Jitter is time distortions of recording/playback of a digital audio.... I know, I know, comments section (I can hear it now), "you must be really fun at parties." I've heard it all... God forbid we try to educate one another.

Also, no way on that display! It should have been 320x240 60Hz. *Most* PSX, 8-bit, and 16 bit systems ran games at either 256x224 to 320x240 with some fringe games running resolutions higher than that. So as you've shown, they look like crap because it has to scale horizontal resolution to fit on the screen. Plus, you said you even tried to use PAL ROMs to compensate for the refresh rate at 50Hz and it still judders? What a joke. Then you have Gameboy which has a 59.7 Hz refresh, so it's a mismatch for that, and the screen isn't an even multiplier of the GB resolution (160x144)... what the hell is this screen good for? Who was this even made for? As others have said, apparently for an ant arcade lol. The original Miyoo mini sold well because it struck a perfect balance between small size and usability. Anbernic should have copied that. This thing is just more ewaste.

I like it☺️
Would like to see something like this in a Game Boy Micro form factor, if it doesn't already exist...
Also a PSPgo form factor would be awesome but probably cost prohibitive...
checkout the Trimui model S
Right? Its all either way to small or way to Big, nonsense, but It is what It is
@@alexn572 Yea I remember that device, its pretty sleek. Wish they had an updated version that was maybe a little bigger and more powerful. :)
I just bought the Miyoo Mini +, waiting for it now, excited, it looks amazing. :D
way too tiny, or I'm extremely big... I already had trouble using the miyoo mini, this one looks imposible to use for big people.
8:24 no pun intended?
60hz build is out.
One-handed rpg device
It’s like Anbernic is trolling 😂😂😂
Cons:
The Price! 50$ max
Its so small that your framing is so close haha.
good video bro, does it run or can I run Java or .Jar files or games on this by transfering java or jar files in the memory card ? @TakiUdon
That looks prett fun for playing PS1 games on, slow ones anyway. Too bad there's no N64.
I'm a noob. Would anyone happen to know how to put games on this baby?
Take out the SD card and use a reader. It will show up with folders that are labeled with the system names.
I don't think my fingers could comfortably press the individual buttons!
for jpgs one hand is amazing
That’s insane! 😂
PS1 without L2 and R2? What a great idea!
Digital controller? Before the analog ones?
@@leviboom0932Even the digital-only Playstation controllers had 2 sets of shoulder buttons.
I'm surprised he didn't mention that you can hold select and press L or R for L2/R2 functionality.
This looks very good for Gameboy/Gameboy color games but nothing else
$65+ for a novelty key chain that's impractical to use
The mini started it
Super Mario World the bad example because you just said game boy games and then you show a game boy game. Like WTF. Also can't you remap the controllers?
allwinner v3 lp lp is low profile wich is why it gets hotter because its thinner so probly throttles too probly why its locked to 50hz.
So, it would have been hilarious for the little one to be the "fingers" at the beginning pointing at all the tiny stuff :D
If it had 4 shoulder buttons I would see the point ... but the funkey s exists.
Anbernic is the king of E-Waste
Have to say that maybe is useless, but is super cute!
Woof. That price.
