i think they meant he stumbled down just a few steps and stayed in character after standing up straight again. so they kept that but used it as bookends and then filmed a staged and dramatized stunt fall for the middle to make it funnier. so in editing they put the real footage of him stumbling at the start and the end of a dramatized stunt fall
That pirates scene was 100% in the script. The fact that people think its really a blooper with the camera changes, the clear preparation for the dive, and the obvious stunt double makes me weep for humanity.

The scene in 1917 was for me very realistic in that I could imagine when all hell breaks loose that you would be tripping over and colliding with other Soldiers the way it is depicted. I honestly thought that it was how it was meant to be filmed.
One of the collision was planned afaik. The second one wasn't as you see the camera pulling away, but the actor sped up to get back on cue. They had three tries to get it right and did it on the first.
It's also really funny to see the extra just decide to keep laying down afterwards as he didn't know what to do afterwards. Don't know if he realized he may have cost the studio millions at the moment
