    Great video, I have just replaced mine on a 307SW 2.0HDI, glow plugs 1 and 4 measured 2 ohms but 2 and 3 were open circuit so didn't give reading. On the 307 you have to remove the windscreen wipers and the plastic scuttle cover to get access as it over hangs the back of the engine, also there is no heat shield on the bulkhead. The job was much easier with this video as a reference. I had the P1351 error code for over 5 years and now I have zero error codes, Thanks for the video.

    • @19jacobob93
      @19jacobob93 4 месяца назад

      I have also had the the same code on my 308 SW for a long time. Doesn't seem to affect anything, but I read the DPF won't do a regen cycle with faulty glow plugs?
      Also thanks for the tip regarding the bulk head, I was wondering how to get around that overhang!

    I have a 2.0 TDCI Focus with this issue, same engine and I am procrastinating about doing this. Your video is brilliant but it has made me realise just how little I really want to take on this job now 🙂 I cannot understand why they thought this was the place to put the glow plugs on these cars! This engine (when working) is SO much better that the Ford 1.8 but when it's not working nothing is a simple job.
    Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, I struggle to get my hands in there let alone a camera and film it! Keep up the excellent work mate.

I have bought new glow plugs but because of difficult replacing and possibility of making damage on engine while removing old glow plugs, services are refusing to replace them,they don't want to risk. Also I don't want to risk and have extra costs :)

    Great vid! Kicking myself, when I bought my 407, I had the turbo out straight away, didn't realise glowplugs were in an awkward space otherwise would have done it then! But a good tip at 12:29 - check the glowplugs with a multimeter first as it's so awkward to change. You'd look for the glowplugs with inconsistent resistance in the circuit. 95% of the time, it's faulty glowplugs BUT it could be the relay or wiring fault. As it only takes a few minutes to check, then atleast you know. More information is always betteR :)

    Good job, buddy!
    I have the same 2.0 hdi 100kw,so I wanna ask you...at 09:53 that pipe you removed, on my car it has some oil in there, and also some oil leaks on the intake pipe(pipe which goes from intercooler to intake). And now at these cold days (from 0 to 6 Celsisus), my car won't start from 1st try, and sometimes it does... I refreshed my engine before 15000km, becasue I had damaged piston which curved 1 valve...so I changed that piston and it' holder, put new pistons rings at all 4 pistons, changed all 4 glowplugs, but my engine runs louder than it should, sometimes has to start it several times...it starts up and shut down immidetly...
    I haven 't repaired turbo charger but it is not ok, cause I can hear that sound it produce...
    So, is my engine still bad(cause of that oil in that pipe)? Can bad turbo charger pulls oil into intake pipe...? Car has good accerlation and it does not have blue smoke on exaust...

    i am thinking to get peugeot because of reliable hdi engine, also i like how easy is to change injectors here (my opel meriva requires to undo engine head to get to injectors :) But on the other hand glow plugs access is tough on peugeot as exhaust manifold is in the back closer to windscreen. On opel exhaust manifold is in front... anyway, there is no perfect access of everything, right? or is there such handy car for the mechanic?

    • @Mad4FrenchCars
      @Mad4FrenchCars  2 года назад +3

      Hi mate I have run 2 x 1.6hdi 407s up to 240k miles as a taxi and it was still going strong and sold for people who still use them. 2.0hdi is even more solid. 1.6hdi exhaust manifold starts in a front of the engine also turbo is in a front. 2.0hdi turbo and exhaust manifold is in a back. Glow plugs location is not great but you probably need to change them if you live in a cold country also if you change them they last many years. Peugeot is very good car for value. These engines designed very well and used in many cars like volvo, Ford, Peugeot and citroen. I would strongly recommend getting Peugeot preferably 2.0hdi. Good on fuel does average 55mpg and plenty of power in it.

      You can use a torque key for anything but I simply don't use it. I must admit I didn't know where is a product to apply on them for easy removal next time. I did rely on a feel then unscrewing and I think I did mention somewhere about a spray you can use, it's personal choice really. @@Mad4FrenchCars i have one glow spark burnt...but I'll wait until winter is over and then change myself all of them...it's not so difficult to do lots of things at home if U have tools, good documentation before starting to work and some skills..and of curse U must like what U are doing...there is some type of grease dedicated to such type of things, heat resistant and sealant in the same time...will help a lot when unscrewing the glow plugs next time, and also, when replacing, tightening them at the torque indicated by the producer helps...anyways...everyone has his own way of working. @@tuzgureanu21 thank you mate I will try my best. I had one burned aswell you could see in a video was a bit tricky to get it out becouse it had a carbon deposit on it. I would probably use a bit of injector crack spray around it before removing also then turning it out you might want to do a bit of forward and back action like undo it then do it up tiny bit. I wouldnt wish to anyone to have one broken. Location is a nightmare. Anyway good luck with the job then you decide to do it.

      @@Mad4FrenchCars Hi!! for that work you don't need torque wrench because if you put your hand on the spanner handle at less than 20 cm from the bolt then the maximum torque you can apply manually is around 20Nm and you need to be very very strong to rich that

      You dont need a torque wrench because a small spanner only allow you to deploy around 20Nm of torque manually and dont stick grease on the thread cos it will burn eventually

    Thanks for the detailed video man! And I must say that is a whole lotta work for just replacing the glow plugs, damn. Is there not other way of doing it? Did you replace the plugs because of any symptoms like jerky ride, problems starting, car dying, etc or because of OBD errors? I am trying to diagnose sporadic light "hickups" while accelerating (they are kind of appearing , mainly when the engine is cold. And I have just the P1351 error showing.

    great video... you are very patient. I have a coolant leak (possibly the EGR cooler) on my RHR, from the same location at back. What camera or phone have you used to shoot this video ? I am after something that will allow me to see where the leak is as the car is running. PS.. I have shifted the engine forward 2 or three inches off the mounts to gain better access previously which has helped immensely.

    • @Mad4FrenchCars
      @Mad4FrenchCars  Год назад

      I used a gopro 8 to record a video. It could be one of the hoses leaking which goes to egr cooler it used to be quite common on 1.6hdi not so common on 2.0hdi but never know. Also if it's a hole and small leak you might be able to dix it with a seld sealing tape rather then swapping a hose as if you swap a hose you will have to refill cooling system and bleed air out of it

    Very interesting video although I don't really have the skillset to do this job on this engine due to where they are positioned, however I wonder if you could tell me before you scanned for the fault when you started your car from cold did it just run lumpy on 3 cylinders smoke quite a lot until eventually running on all 4 cylinders & smoke clearing?
    I only ask this as I've just bought one of these cars from a dealer & the next day when we went out it spluttered into life from cold how I described. I took it back today to them & they popped a computer on it that allegedly cost 5 grand & they said it's not showing a glow plug error & I am not entirely convinced. They gave me a free warranty so I could take it to another garage to get it sorted but I think in reality they didn't want to tackle the job.

      Hi mate my car was working fine before glow plug replacement I only replaced it as it was the only fault coming on diagnostics then scanned and I wanted it to be faultless also make a video for a channel. Most of 407 have glow plug fault if it has never been done but it barely ever affect anything unless you are living in a very cold country.

Changed all 4. Symptoms stayed same but for a very short time. Thinking about timing, compression or injectors.. did you solve the issue?
