  • The Philadelphia Eagles' Tush Push is one of the most unstoppable plays in NFL history. But what may seem like a simple play is actually deceptively complex - so Kyle Brandt sought the wisdom of one of the world’s foremost scientific minds, the famed director of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City, to learn more about the forces at work.

Actually, Neil says some pretty dumb stuff sometimes. I remember when he did an interview about a certain subject that can't be named, with a person who can't be named, and Neil said a lot of stupid things, like how he prefers to blindly agree with a consensus, which is not how science works. So, Neil sold out. I used to love listening to his podcast, but ever since that interview, I lost complete respect for him. He's all about the money, and I wonder how much the NFL paid him for this appearance.

In the failed two-point play, a Tampa Bay player leaped and grabbed Jalen Hurts and pulled him off to the side. This was ingenious because it through off Hurts' projectory and length the distance he had to travel to the goal line. Ultimately, this is how the defense can stop the play.

So if you're the defense, with the ball spotted on your one yard line, why not try to anticipate the snap and essentially jump offsides? If the play is blown dead, the ball is moved half the distance (half a yard), which is not that much to concede. If you are successful in stopping their progress, then you win the down. At the very least, you could make them run the play a couple times in a row, and start to chip away at their stamina.

Its all about effort. Look at the bucs and eagles game. Eagles are known to not come back from being behind, and their fundamentals start to slack. In the bucs game, they are down, and the team as a whole collapsed before the playoffs, so they are already mentally out of it. In theory this play should work 100% of the time and be unstoppable but when they dont try as hard they dont get it

Yes, I've never understood the "we must ban it" concept. The other 31 teams in the league just need to practice it and add it to their playbook.
