      @W J Thought you trolls already lost trying to get the program canned --- now the 35 is out waltzing through missiles systems as the Israelis play around in other people's airspace. More countries want to buy it today than ever before -- they're turning people down, not canceling orders. The order for the 15 missile truck didn't come at the cost of ANY F35s. I remember people said that. Either Russian trolls and I even think the "National Interest" got in on the F35 hating. Always knew that they were wrong. Saw yesterday's practice and some of today's demonstration and it reminds me of the F22 Raptor, though not quite as maneuverable due to the Raptor's exhaust vectoring. The F35 certainly seems to bank much faster in a much tighter radius than the Raptor.

      Blob B Every airplane sheds a ton of energy, thrust vectoring or not, in the high AOA regime. The 35 handles very well in post stall maneuvers, but you’re quite right. You better get the shot off fast, it better hit and the prey better not have a wingman lurking in the weeds.

The software is even more lethality enhancing in giving the 35, by far the world's most advanced sensor suites. Trust me, in combat, she is one very lethal girl. Also, which I thought was very cool, when the 35 made her "High Speed" pass it came damn close to breaking the speed of sound...the bubble was briefly visible at the rear of the plane and was just starting to go up the fuselage when the pilot banked to kill some airspeed...fastest low altitude pass I've ever seen "at an airshow" (a PhD. Haha, no. He significantly reduced bank angle after 90-120 degrees through the turn because that jet fell out of every turn sideways due to the weight and high drag. Turns were initiated at 85 degrees and 9G became 70 degrees and 3.5-4G due to the drag and jets incapability to continue a sustained turn rate. An F-4 phantom can turn as well. The F/A-18, definitely F-16 can probably out turn this turd twice in 3 rounds.

      @@David-hw5xk You are correct and the engine will be upgraded.
      This article discusses the Growth Option 1 upgrade that has already been implemented Growth Option 2 was approved and implemented in 2018. Check the link at the bottom of my post
      The F-35 Could Get a Better Engine
      Proposed upgrade would consume less fuel, produces more thrust.
      By Kyle Mizokami Jun 1, 2017
      The maker of the F-35's engine says it can provide an engine that uses less fuel to create more thrust, improving the performance of the multinational jet fighter. The company, Pratt and Whitney, claims it can deliver the engine by the early 2020s-if the Pentagon and participating countries pay for its development.
      The engine, tentatively called F135 Growth Option 1, builds upon the original F135 engine with technology gathered from Navy and Air Force programs. The engine would be a drop-in fit for all three variants of the F-35: the Air Force's F-35A, the Navy's carrier-borne F-35C, and the Marine Corps' vertical takeoff and landing F-35B.
      According to Defense News, the improved engine "could improve thrust by up to 10 percent and reduce fuel consumption by up to 6 percent." An increase in thrust could help make the plane be a better dogfighter and respond quicker to new threats, while reduced fuel consumption would increase the jet's range. The F-35A has a range of 1200 nautical miles with internal fuel, the F-35B has a range of 900 nautical miles, and the F-35C has a range of 1400 nautical miles. A six percent decrease in fuel consumption could add up to an extra 72 miles to the F-35A's range.
      Pratt and Whitney says Growth Option 1 would also be "cost neutral," meaning that if it is developed, it would cost about the same as the existing F-35 engine. Development costs, however, would be shared by Washington and other partners in the program such as the Netherlands, Norway, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Japan, and others.

      Yes - thought for a second he was trying to be the B model. I've seen f18 do that but they don't pull out of that flat stall where you are standing on engine thrust tail wise. Such moves shows very high confidence in the f35 by pilot since you have such low airflow - so it's engine + really big control surfaces that do all the work - not airspeed. Transition from that tail stand was also impressive. Tons of power.

      @W J
      Well by the pure definition of super cruise the f35 does not. But with a kick of afterburner it can be bumped over supersonic and then you can throttle back down. I don't know if f35 can break supersonic without AB.

    • @mikeinsugarland

      The F-35 can supercruise for 150 miles.

    • @BigSmartArmed
      @BigSmartArmed 5 лет назад

      no, at combat load F-35 can not super cruise.

    • @Albertkallal
      @Albertkallal 5 лет назад

      Hum but you have to define combat load. Most weapons loads for the f35 are "clean", and thus having weapons on board, or not does not effect top speed.
      It is only if you hang weapons on the wings will this issue be effected.
      In fact, compared to say f18, f16, Typhoon etc., the F35 will achieve a higher top speed. A f18 tops out at Mach 1.8 at 38,000 feet. but that is WITHOUT any junk on its wings. Hang just 4 aims on that f18, and now your top speed is only Mach 1.3 (and will drop even more as you drop in altitude).
      The f35 will still hit Mach 1.6. And remember, the top speed of the f35 is NOT engine + drag, but is a software limit. So, with weapons on board, the F35 will fly faster, and do so with less fuel consumption.
      And as you drop in altitude, then the f35 can feed in more throttle, while those other legacy fighters will find their top speed drops even more.
      In the Falkland's war, those sub sonic Harriers were able to best and take on Mach 2.0+ Mirage jets. The reason of course at lower on the deck (lower altitudes), the top speed and performance of the Harriers was equal to those Mach 2.0 jets. In fact lower down, the Harrier's were actually better performers then those Mach 2.0 jets. The Harrier was optimised for sub-sonic speeds but had VERY good engine power.
      The result was the Argentine fighters stayed up at 30,000 feet, taunting and waiting for the Harriers to go up high (where the vast superior top speed would become a advantage).
      Of course, the Harriers would stay down low, taunting the Argentine jets to come down low near the ocean floor. Because Argentines did not have air to air refueling they could only stay out in the battle theatre for about 20 minutes before low on fuel, and having to head back home.
      This dance occurred over and over. And when Argentine jets came down low, then Harriers were on even par, and losses of Argentine fighters were terrible if they engaged the Brits this way.
      In fact, about 1 year before the Falklands war, a group of Harriers took on and beats the pants against Germany f15's. (and again they used the lower deck trick to nullify the speed and performance advantage of those massive fast and powerful f15's).
      So, just lookin at top speed can be VERY misleading.
      The F35 top speed is NOT an engine limit, and its performance envelope due to clean hidden weapons results in a fighter that will in real world terms fly faster then f18,f18, Rafael, Typhoon, and will use less fuel doing so.
      The f35 engines are not optimized for super cruise, and it does have the power to (edit: stay ) pass the sound barrier without afterburners, but when it comes to the overall flight envelope with weapons?
      Well, you better tip you hat to the F35 - it is no dog, nor any kind of slouch when compared to the fighters it replaces.
      Keep in mind in Vietnam, we saw the opposite of Falklands. The lighter and less powerfull migs were able to take on the F4 phantom jets.
      Of course after the famous top gun school in which pilots were taught to use the huge power advantage of the F4's over the migs then kill ratios return back to 8 or 10 to 1.
      The f35 is likely the best fighter in terms of lower altitude performance, and due to clean internal weapons, it will outfly and fly faster then every jet it replaces. Top speed of F35 is NOT engine limit, but is a software limit. I can feed in more throttle when other jets have LONG past their max top speed at full throttle.

    First: Fantastic video.
    But it shows exactly what has been said about the F-35 - It's an over weight pig.
    This thing needs so much Angle of Attack to stay airborne, even at medium to high mach. And with empty weapon bays at that. This looks like we're watching an F-4 Phantom performing with one engine out and full fuel.
    Example: 3:27 note as he enters the turn he sets a typical 85 degree bank angle for a 9G minimum radius turn, but after just 90degress through the turn, the jet is falling sideways like a brick as it bleeds speed. Note the pilot reduces bank to approximately 70-75 degrees for much of the remainder of the turn. That's only between 4-5 G's for a sustained, same altitude coordinated turn, which this is. See the graph here krepelka.com/fsweb/lessons/private/privatelessons02.htm
    On exit of the 360-degree minimum radius turn, the jet is now flying significantly slower than on entry. It's noticeably sluggish to respond to max-elevator pitch control. It then climbs using it's very good thrust to weight ratio to maintain that speed, that thrust was in full effect through the previous 360° turn, but was far inadequate to overcome the enormous drag created from such a small, highly loaded wing that is obviously operating on the back side of the curve at a G-loading of only 4-5, without a full loadout, or any weapons at all.
    It's a turd of a fighter.
    And with all that AoA required to simply fly, it's going to be an unstable turd of an A-10 replacement as well. It's like shooting hoops while standing on a basketball.

    • @sjesgreg
      @sjesgreg 5 лет назад

      I disagree that the F-35 is a flying turd. All stealth platforms have some trade-offs but I think it will be a successful platform. However, I agree fully that this is the wrong aircraft to replace the A-10. If they are replacing the A-10 (which I don't think they should) it should be with a purpose-built, less expensive, survivable airframe.

    • @TheJustinJ
      @TheJustinJ 5 лет назад

      @@ascissordollynamedgwen9409 I'm a pilot, and I fly aerobatics. It's the same concepts of physics.
      This jet is a turd, I've been to dozens of airshows. I've seen the F-22 perform, I've seen Harriers perform above my head. And I used to live in an MOA (military operations are) and saw F-16s, F-15s and A-10s performing ops on a weekly basis. This thing is supposed to replace all of those jets, except the 22. It cannot. It's pathetic compared to an F-16 in performance. It is pathetic against an A-10 in load carrying ability, survivability, and slow speed stability and maneuverability.
      You can see this thing needs about 6 degrees of nose-up angle just to stay airborne at 250-300mph. With empty weapons bays. What a flop.

    Putting on a show like this is not the real point of the F-35. Obviously it cannot match the things an Su-35 can do, or even a MiG-29R...but it wasn't designed to. Instead, it was designed to take those planes out very quickly, without being detected (or being extremely difficult to detect). That is the whole point of this aircraft. And there is little doubt that it can do just that. Air forces around the world in real-life mock combat are reporting the same thing: that the F-35 kills them over and over, before they even know they're in the battle space.

      @superfamilyallosauridae6505 5 лет назад +7

      Eurofighters are more expensive than F-35s, and the Austrian Air Force is actively looking to ditch its Eurofighters. In Britain and Italy, F-35s are being purchased in the hundreds to do what Eurofighters will never be able to do. F-35 defeats Eurofighters in competitions often, as it did in Belgium, Denmark, and Japan.
      In fact, the wide range of allies using F-35 actually make it the closest we've ever had to a NATO Universal fighter, other than perhaps the F-86 or F-16. But neither of those ever had a chance to be integrated network wise with ships and other forces and sensor fusion.
      F-18s outperform F-35s in literally only one metric: maximum speed, and only by .2 Mach.
      Mach 1.8 F-18s vs Mach 1.6 F-35s. Payload, radar, stealthiness, maneuverability, electronic warfare, range, everything is done better by F-35. F-15 is nearing the end of its production life, and F-15X was inserted into the budget against the USAF's will by a former Boeing executive, Patrick Shanahan, the current Secretary of Defense.
      There's a reason we sell F-15s in their most advanced forms to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and others without batting an eye, while only Israel, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and other direct and much closer US allies get F-35s.
      Also, speed on a 5th gen is better than speed on a 4th gen. A 4th gen's max speed cannot be attained with missiles, fuel tanks, or whatever else loaded. A 5th gen can reach its top speed fully equipped for war. An F-22 can actually go and do Mach 2+ with its payload. An F-35 can actually go out and do Mach 1.6 with thousands of pounds of bombs chilling on the inside.
      F-15s, despite being able to get to perhaps Mach 2.5 clean, rarely go above Mach 1.3 in USAF service _at all_ and the time they spend at that speed or higher is measured in minutes, not hours, of flight.
