    My grandfather played very similar to your style, he tried so many times to teach me what he knew, but my 6-8 year old self had neither the patience or the interest. Boy if I could turn back time.

    I played piano as a kid for 5 years,i got sick from all classical music,that i stoped playing. Love classic music,but allways wanted to play something faster,more alive. Did not have any clue about Boogie Woogie,ragtime and all of that. If i knew that kind of music exists,i would never stoped playing.

    My Mom played piano with all the big bands on Broadway, NYC in the mid1930's..She was formerly a concert pianist, but folks on Broadway showed her how to play boogie-woogie and she was off and playing for most big show bands at major clubs in NYC and Long Island resort homes. She passed in 1969, but every time I hear good Broadway Boogie, my ear and brain lights up. Dick Barber

    • @JonnyMay
      @JonnyMay  8 лет назад +3

      Wow, thanks. You've got the spirit! You can achieve your dreams on the piano - I really believe it is more a matter of time than talent, but so many think it is just a gift. Not true. Talent helps, but I've put well over 10,000 hours in my lifetime, and no pianist achieves excellence without putting that much time in. It's hard work, you have to commit to being a life-long student, but well worth it for the immense joy it brings. Keep up the great work and I believe you can reach your dreams. Keep going.

    Wish I hadn't let my so called 'natural talent' get wasted because I didn't like the music I needed to play for 'practice'. I play melody by ear with the right hand, but the left hand is unnatural to me. Amazing to WATCH as well as hear someone playing like you do :)Another job for post-retirement - get some piano lessons (from someone who knows Boogie, Rock & Roll and Swing). I'm always "In The Mood" for music like this.
