  • In this video, we do a bench test of our newest mod! We're installing a front camera to display on the multifunction display (MFD). In this video, the MFD is from a 2022 Subaru Forester. The circuit board modification and wiring adapter that we built is discussed in more detail on this page:

Also referenced in the video, the Subaru FRAC harness allows you to install a front camera on your vehicle and display the camera image the headunit screen. This kit is sold on this page:

Fantastic video, fantastic concept, and fantastic explanation. Was looking to do just this, and glad you sell the harness for it, to which I'll get. Question: in addition (or instead) of having an actual switch to turn on the front display, would it be possible to install a relay switch such that it picks up the power when you're in reverse, and keeps it on for, say, about 30-45 seconds or so? This way, the front camera will turn on automatically when you reverse, and stay on for the presumed duration of you trying to park.

I'm glad you found the video helpful! The circuitry that we add for this function is basically just for the switch that turns the camera on/off (for the MFD displayed option). I suspect that you could do something with a relay to momentarily tap the front camera button when you shift into reverse since it's just a pushbutton. Once you tap that button, it should stay on for at least 30 seconds until it automatically clears. (at some point, the screen times out and goes back to the other screen)

Thank you for the video! This looks like a major project to take on. Besides making the modification to the MFD, what other steps are need to have the OEM camera up and running? I assume we need to purchase the OEM camera and View button somewhere, and then connect the camera and button to MFD somehow?

@Bacon-r9r you can use the OEM View button (is available on ebay) or you can use any other pushbutton. The complex part is probably installing the front camera and running the cable through the firewall and up to the MFD. We can help with the MFD modification if needed.
