Please tour again soon. I last saw you in Brixton on 1st July 2012. My second son was born that afternoon. Fathers weren't allowed to stay on the ward overnight so my wife told me to head to your gig and enjoy myself.
Shirley's idol is Siouxsie... she's said it countless times. Many of the younger folk haven't a clue what Siouxsie did for women in music.. she is the Queen and that's just a fact.
I love both Siouxsie and The Banshees and Garbage. Two of my all time favorite female artists: Siouxsie Sioux and Shirley Manson. Thanks Garbage for making this cover.
Your band is the only one I've never stop listening. Discovered at 16, now I'm 40, and got still a dozen of your songs in my playlist. You guys are a big part of my life, thank you for coming back.
started listening to garbage in 1998 when version 2.0 first came out. I never stopped.i just turned 40. songs are still great i just relate in a different way. Shirley Manson was my first girl crush.
Shirley Manson, the most criminally underrated singer in rock, and her mates, one of the most criminally underrated bands in rock, strikes again. Fucking awesome!
I've listened to this song by Siouxsie and the Banshees so many times. It's one of my favourites. I'm so glad they took it in the direction they did! It has added another dimension to it, darker, weirder, harder. Very Depeche Mode. This will be on regular rotation for quite some time. Garbage, I love what you've been doing! I think Siouxsie would be proud.
I immediately thought of DM! But maybe throw in a little NIN. But with Shirley singing. 🤷🏻♀️ It’s like the first time someone must’ve tried chocolate and peanut butter together and realized it was meant to come together all along. 🤷🏻♀️
Wow, lucky guy!... I personally LOVE that Siouxsie era: The Creatures album Anima Animus was great, the band sounded sharp as a knife live, Siouxsie's voice was a powerhouse, and looked as well!
You know when you rediscover a band you've always loved, and never stopped loving, but you just kind of drifted away from? Well, recently I've been rediscovering Talking Heads and Siouxie and the Banshees. Then, last night I was driving home after seeing a movie and "Cities in Dust" was the last song I listened to and when I woke up this morning, the first thing I saw was an article saying that Garbage covered the song! What a great cover!
Garbage helped me through my entire life and after one of the most hardest nights, this appears as I am trying to relax and sleep in my timeline. Thank you so much, all of you. You've helped me since I was 11 years old. This is an amazing song and words don't express how much your music speaks to me. Love & admiration. The rawness and messages you create are empowering.
I've been playing this on repeat all day. Every single cover of theirs is exquisite. Because The Night, Starman. I didn't think they could do it again. Color me wrong. This is incredible. 🤯
Agree 100%, and I've only just played this for the first time. Agree about Because the Night, and Starman. The former is one of my favorite covers to belt out in the car now.
Shirley/Garbage + Siouxsie/Banshees = Dark and delightful. Mesmerizing, like a dream of a euphoric hell on earth as sung by the most bewitching and lovely enchantresses to ever grace our world stages. Always loved the original and this is a fantastic cover Garbage! Hope to hear this live one day soon. 🖤🖤💯
One of my favorite bands covering my favorite band? A dream come true. Garbage has shown an amazing ability to cover songs, their covers of Because the night by Patti, Starman by Bowie and this one are a testament of that.
Holy cow, I had no idea this was coming! Listening to it now!!! I'm in tears, this is SUBLIME!!! _(awww the little "I love you Siouxsie" whisper at the end!!!! 😍🥹❤)_
Flawless industrial re interpretation "a la Garbage" of an all time post punk classic ....................Miss Siouxsie I'm sure will not only approve but send her blessings too...................AMAZING indeed.
Shirley Manson’s voice still makes this classic track her own with creative control to how she says the lyrics, but in her own signature way, pacing and delivery. It has a modern rawness to her voice and imperfectness that makes it perfect as this is definitely a somber track with glimpses of energy.
I totally LOVE this band, I think it is fantastic how Shirley Manson has been able to transcend her painful past and has become a global superstar. I loved listening to her voice in my late teens with the early work like You Look So Fine or Cherry Lips, Only Happy When It Rains, I had a tough childhood and I felt like it seemed she understood tough issues too. You go girl!
Ever since I was a kid I've listened to Siouxsie and Shirley when I need an audio hug and to feel ok about myself. This is the combo we all knew was inevitable but turned out even better than I could have hoped
I love this. Never has a cover seemed so intuitively obvious and yet the results are somewhat unexpected. The energy Shirley brings to this provides a strong link to the original. The instrumentation is just *nasty.* The video is perfectly dystopian.
This song reminded me of how much I love Garbage, and now I’m going to see them in a week! Thank you to the flight attendant who recommended this song ❤
Love Garbage to bits and this cover is great but The Banshees' version is always my favorite. When I saw them in concert in 1986 Siouxsie took the stage singing this wearing a Julie Newmar style Catwoman mask it was awesome and that song just thundered on and on it was fabulous I will never forget it as long as I live!
Can you imagine if it wasn't good? I mean, Siouxsie is Shirley's biggest influence, and with good reason. But if she couldn't do a proper cover, then who could?
Holy shit...ever come across something you didn't realize you needed? Why did it never occur to me that a Siouxsie cover by Garbage would be like watching a new production of a classic opera? Thank you and congrats, all!

I am a HUGE Siouxsie fan. Got to meet her in 1985. I've never really liked this particular song. Until now... you have put a whole new spin on it and it is AMAZING.
That little "I love you, Siouxsie," at the end made me laugh because it was so sweet. This cover was already everything, Shirley and Siouxsie are two of my favourite women but that made it. 😂 Shirley Manson is such an adorable human.
I heard this originally on my phone today through an article... The phone did the mix no favours, so now I'm home streaming this on my Overpowered PC built for audio. It sounds so much better; it's a cover to be proud of for sure. I'd also love to hear Romeo Void's "Never Say Never" filtered through the Garbage team.
The same way The Banshees took every single cover on “Looking Glass” and made it their own, this cover is distinctly Garbage and it is incredible. I’d kill to hear a Banshees cover album from y’all.
Simply can't stop listening to this on repeat. Can someone tell me about the crazy drums and that delightful droning instrument in this? I'd love to see people playing this stuff. Such a great cover!
A really great cover version,Shirley's voice is perfect for this iconic song,it has the essence of the original but also is such a garbage sounding track too.I really love this, this will be a great live track too for sure. They have definitely brought something new and original to this version of this song.An inspired choice of cover.(Matt)
Just imagine Garbage opening for Siouxsie and they both sing Cities in Dust. This is not only a great cover, but something more. Shirley often says just how massive an inspiration Siouxsie is to her She clearly put all of her skills in this song to pay proper homage to Siouxsie and celebrate the fact she has returned to tour again this year. It's beautiful and it makes me feel like I'm a bad Siouxsie fan for not being able to do anything like that.
OMG pure perfection. I didn't know the original, but this song is straight to my auto playlist. I am extremely in love with the evolution Garbage is going through as a band, it never gets old, never goes far away from what we know from them, but always know how to surprise us. Covering Cities in Dust is very good... But I think Garbage doing Standing There and/or Fury Eyes would be absolute fire
Garbage + Siouxsie and the banshees: a dream come true.
Garbage covering Siouxsie and the Banshees is essentially a life-long dream come true 🖤
Yes, absolutely!!
Right??? 🙂
Hell yes.
Absolutely!!!!!!
@M Rence OMG YES!
Sometimes you do not have to write a new song, but bring attention to a great old one again! ✊✊✊✊
I was saying something like this hours ago
[Yog Sothoth enters the chat]😅😅
Exactly that , looking always for a good cover all my life , and this is one
Personally I'd prefer brand new music but not bad cover.
This song is in my head.
I think it's super cute how Shirley says, "I love you Siouxsie" at the end of the song!
finishing with, "i luv u, siouxsie" was a perfect way to end this.
🖤🖤🖤
I love both Siouxsie and The Banshees and Garbage. Two of my all time favorite female artists: Siouxsie Sioux and Shirley Manson. Thanks Garbage for making this cover.
Indeed. Siouxie and Shirley, what a pair. Both Beautiful and Badass haha
I feel like this song is the culprit of Shirley's appreciation for Siouxsie as a creative force and an idol, and this is so beautiful.
Shirley Manson is the only one I fully approve of attempting to cover this. GET IT GIRL!!!

OH MY GOTH!🕸 the cover I never knew I needed...
Water was running,
children were running
You were running out of time
Under the mountain,
a golden fountain
Were you praying at the Lares' shrine?
But, whoa,
oh, your city lies in dust,
Whoa, oh,
your city lies in dust,
my friend
We found you hiding,
we found you lying
Choking on the dirt and sand
Your former glories
and all the stories
Dragged and washed with eager hands
But, whoa,
oh, your city lies in dust,
Whoa, oh,
your city lies in dust,
my friend
My friend
Water was running, children were running
We found you hiding, we found you lying
Water was running, children were running
We found you hiding, we found you lying
Hot and burning in your nostrils
Pouring down your gaping mouth
Your molten bodies, blanket of cinders
Caught in the throes, and ooh
Whoa, oh, your city lies in dust
Whoa, oh, your city lies in dust
Whoa, oh, your city lies in dust
Whoa, oh, your city lies in dust, my friend
my friend
My friend My friend
Your city lies in dust
Your city lies in dust
Your city
Your city
Your city lies in dust
Your city
This city
Lies in dust
