Savage is actually a concept album which basically tells the whole story from beginning to end if you listen to it in order. And yes, it is a great plot that would definitely make an interesting film/series.
Holy shit. Did that actually happen? Kinda off-topic. We used to have a music store over here in the UK that put all of Nine Inch Nails' music under nu-metal... Come on. When The Fragile came out they classed them as "nu-metal Gods"... People really don't have a fucking clue at times. I think the were called MVC, Music, Video, Cassette. Lasted as long as a rancid fart in the wind. As for Gary Numan, I saw him play in Southampton last year. Easily one of the best shows that I've ever seen live! Really looking forward to Intruder, and catching him live again. This guy is relentless. Strength to strength. I don't know if you've heard of Jayce Lewis? If not, I highly recommend.
Interviewer: Do you feel detached from the music you made early on in your career? Numan: A little bit, yes. I do. I can’t imagine how you would feel connected to something you wrote 35, 40 years ago. Even if you’d had a fairly boring life, age alone would make you feel like a different person. The only connection that remains is what those songs did for you, how they thread through your career. From a creative or emotional point of view, they’re like the vaguest of memories. You listen to these songs, which were essentially teenage tantrums, and it’s difficult to relate to the angst that bothered you then. It’s like looking back at old film of you as a kid: it’s nearly always embarrassing. From Huckmag - 2017
I feel that. Even when I found e mails or message I wrote to someone 10 or 20 years ago, I feel like it was someone else and ask myself how is it possible I wrote that, bad or good. With regard to us, as public, fans or just consumers of any art it's different, we always connect for example, some song to some event or feeling, not all, but lot of music we listen after decades, it means feeling was strong ( feels~good~man )
Why does Gary bother to play these songs live anymore, then? Because they are the building blocks that have made him the truly great artist that he is today, and indeed has always been. Songs such as Cars, She's Got Claws etc. define him, and they cannot be dismissed as juvenile attempts at songwriting - right from Down In The Park, Are 'Friends' Electric? etc., he created a brand-new sound of incredible depth and maturity, and though of course he has moved on from those early years, those songs sound as fresh and full of unique imagery as they ever did and remain as testament to his great and highly original songwriting skills, in my humble opinion. Let The Machines rock!!
Yeah, Gary Numan never retired. You just stopped listening. I have a an entire shelf of Numan Studio albums. You’ve got several decades of music to catch up on. Enjoy.
Exactly! Heard the rift in the beginning in the episode, Shazammed that bad boy and now I’m obsessed! LoL . Trying to figure out how to make my PUBG character look like Gary in this video
Gary is at the top of his game here and that is extremely impressive at age 60. The sound is off the hook and his ability to put his personal stamp on this genre now in 2018 is amazing. He looks great, sounds awesome and is totally killing it.
His voice hasn't deepened that much and weakened with waning lungs, like so many of us as we sing and age...he very nearly sounds the same (I said very nearly) as he did on "Are Friends Electric" and "Cars." Think Joni Mitchell's young voice in the late 60s VS now...that should help with perspective! :-)
Persia is incredible. While all her contemporaries are dreaming of instant X Factor fame and fortune, she's doing something very cool and extremely credible. Go girl!.... and some quality parenting right there, Mr Numan.
Just heard this song on new South Park episode. I've been a fan of Gary Numan for many years, and it was really cool to hear his tune perfectly meld with the animation.
I spent 23 years in the U. S. Army. 15 years ago I was in Iraq. 10 years ago, I was in Kosovo. Tonight's the first time I heard this song... I've got too many demons haunting my dreams - this song may help me exorcise a few more of them and let me sleep a little better tonight. Gary Numan - this old vet thanks you for writing this song and letting the world hear it.

In your next reincarnation i pray may you become mother Teresa or siddhartha budda. Your 7/8 there already my friend , you just don't know it yet.... hag on like a kitty on a tree branch, the world needs you here. Your tomorrow begins at sunrise.....
The whole Savage album is actually based on an apocalyptic dystopian Mad Max style novel Gary had been trying to write for years. Eventually he just turned it into a concept album instead! If you know the basic plot outline and listen to the album in order, it gives you the full story in musical form! (And yes, it would make a great movie done right)
I never gave this song's lyrics much thought at first but if you've had life experiences where other people force you into an "outsider" role and project bad things on you because of your differences from them, you "get it". Gary Numan definitely does.
@@Heliocentric It depended, my grandparents were kids in the 20's and 30's but they were kind of cool, so I heard a lot of very cool stuff I'd have never heard, old Nina Simone works, Jazz standards from the era and the shit you'd hear in old bootleg liquor establishments. My one sister on the other hand was born in '72 and listened to the most boring pop crap you could imagine, and gospel...like Amy Grant...there's badass music from every era, and there's absolute crap in every era, for every one person listening to Numan, Skinny Puppy, The Future Sound of London, Violator era Depeche Mode and Einstürzende Neubauten there were 500 drooling over the likes of Tiffany or other such bubblegum pop shit... The real trick? Finding the people, of any era, who had their ear to the ground and liked what wasn't playing on the top 40's stations...that includes today, there's so much amazing, kickass music today it's breathtaking...you just don't hear it in the Billboard hot 100...actually, it's the foreign market I've been really listening to lately...Japan, the Ukraine and so on...stuff like Ningen Isu, Jinjer, Asterism, 88kasyo junrei, Unleash The Archers and so on are all just fucking epic

...because the radio stations cater only to 'aficionados' of autotune, generic, uninspired corporate-created crap that honestly, is offensive to me to even call it 'music' - not sure what is worse - being chased by a serial killer in some godforsaken backwoods, or listening to today's radio 'music'. Hmm, methinks the serial killer is actually a more palatable outcome......

Malcolm Patterson Can you believe that he is technically, at least In the US a one hit wonder? It would be great that nearly 40 years later, he finally gets another one.
This is not my first introduction but South Park made me realize he’s still making music. Gary’s one of those acts I thought I’d missed out on because I wasn’t old enough. Glad he’s still going.
@@chilemachinexd5040 I love this song too- so powerful. It's on a par with Are "Friends" Electric?. This tune will be a future classic and having Gary's daughter singing as well, makes it more special. Does she still sing with Gary though?
This is the sh** that legends do. If you know anything about Gary, he is one of the most sensitive and humble person/celebrities active today. He wouldn’t want to be labeled a legend, but he is, and always will be. Say what you will about his music and craft, but as a human being, he’s a beautiful person. Persia is amazingly beautiful as well and fills her role absolutely perfectly. Chris Corner, IMAX, as usual brings his stunning sensibilities to the 'Numan vision'. Chris could turn a speck of dust into a full feature film. See you in SF in November.
Meisodem: Funnily enough, "c£$t" is exactly the same word that Numan used to describe the late, great Mick Karn (multi instrumentalist from the band Japan and solo artist) who played and starred on Numan's Dance album! Is that the kind of language that "beautiful" persons use?! Unless you know Mr Webb personally - and perhaps you do? - then I suggest that you are in no position to say with any degree of certainty whether he is a genuinely "beautiful person" or not. I will concede however that he does come across as a consistently amiable chap but then few celebrities wish to appear to be complete c£$ts, even when that is exactly what they are.

Jesus Gary. Jesus. This knocked it OUT of the bloody park! I saw Gary live after moving to the States from the UK at I believe the 'Paradise" or "Orpheum" in Boston and it was amazing. He's back, better than ever, and is putting out better music than 99.9% of all music and these lyrics are shockingly good; This is indeed one of his 3 lovely daughters, Persia, in the video and the "Arabic" melodies are an ode to her.

There is little justice in this world, but Numan's legions of fans have remained staunchly loyal to him and at last he is enjoying the respect and recognition he richly deserves. Heard Gary interviewed and he talked about this song. It's from a novel he's been working on. In a post-apocalyptic "Mad Max" world someone finds a fragment of a book called "The Bible", but I guess they only find the nasty bits because they use it to start a violent cult. When they kidnap a man's daughter he goes on a quest to find her, and becomes increasingly cruel and violent in his attempt to save her. By the time he does reach her he realizes he's no longer qualified to be her father. I'd read it.
Eric Anderson : If I had a daughter like that, and she was taken from me, I’d slaughter an entire cult of religious fanatics to get her back. Like Anakin Skywalker in the Tusken Raider camp.
Spoopy MoonCritter : “...desire to see paedophiles weighted with stones and flung into the sea.” He should have inspired someone to do that with Mohammed. The Devil’s Prophet.
@Spoopy MoonCritter "NO I'm not a religious person." You're a religious person. Otherwise, you'd see the myths for what they are. And you wouldn't say something as silly as "Gary is working for the enemy." Which presumes you also believe in a devil.

What I find amazing, is that when he sings Cars live now, it sounds even better than when he first released it.
Yeah I would be like...wait...that was me?!?!? Wth was I going through? Ahh yes....
'i knew I'd always find my way to you..'

Gary is at the top of his game here and that is extremely impressive at age 60. The sound is off the hook and his ability to put his personal stamp on this genre now in 2018 is amazing. He looks great, sounds awesome and is totally killing it.
AMEN !! :-)

This song would fit in with a Mad Max movie.Awesome song from Gary with Persia his daughter.

One of my favorite songs out of nowhere. This song played up and down as I had a very bad time.
Did you just make this up?
quite a few people have already made several violent cults out of the Bible
Eric Anderson : If I had a daughter like that, and she was taken from me, I’d slaughter an entire cult of religious fanatics to get her back. Like Anakin Skywalker in the Tusken Raider camp.
Spoopy MoonCritter : “...desire to see paedophiles weighted with stones and flung into the sea.”
He should have inspired someone to do that with Mohammed. The Devil’s Prophet.
@Spoopy MoonCritter "NO I'm not a religious person."
You're a religious person. Otherwise, you'd see the myths for what they are. And you wouldn't say something as silly as "Gary is working for the enemy." Which presumes you also believe in a devil.
