The guy gets better and better. What he's creating now is powerful stuff, he's a brilliant performer now, and the old songs are even better performed by the more seasoned Numan. Live he is incredible.
I was 13 at the time... I love this song - also "Cars"! Still amazing! "The pleasure principle" is brilliant album with a unique voice and synthesizer sound! BTW - his daughter is simply fantastic...
I just listened to this album earlier today, not knowing that Gary Numan still was doing music...Loved it, to put it simply. Some of the best Industrial Rock music I've heard in a long long time.
I have to admit I only knew of Gary thru his song cars. Now that I have actually listened to his song catalog, I realize my life has amounted to nothing more than an artistically bankrupt waste of time. This is beyond words it is so good.
One of only a few musicians who stills create relevant, cutting edge music 35+ years later. Numan's newer music (since 1995) is as good as his early career in the late 70s / early 80s.
Reznor and Numan are actually friends. Trent has credited Numan with being a major music influence on him growing up and has done a few Numan covers. In an interview for Amoeba Music “What’s in My Bag?”, Numan credited Reznor with inspiring him (Numan’s wife introduced him to Pretty Haye Machine and he was hooked) and called Nine Inch Nails “probably the best band ever”. When Numan and his family immigrated to the US, Reznor even wrote him a testimonial letter for immigration authorities.
And yet he's from my time period as I had his Pleasure Principle album back in the early 80's. But, you know, we're "square" and stupid. Huh, go figure.....
i discovered gary numan around september 2017. It's april 2018 now, and i listened to Are friends electric at least once a day, everyday since then. I literally can't get tired of that song. It just speaks to my soul somehow
Edoardo Sella Wow, I can't imagine you just discovering Numan last year! I hope you've bought his early discography? Telekon is my favourite album, it's also incidentally Trent Reznors. 👍
What's amazing is that Gary first appeared on shows like this and Top Of The Pops and helped him rocket to stardom, and now here he is again in all his glory alongside the next generation. I really hope Persia decides to pursue music further, but even if she doesn't, I'm sure whatever she decides to do, her dad will be proud of her. Gary is such a fantastic dad and husband to his family. Their closeness really touches the heart.
As a dad of a 6 and a 13 year old I'm just so delighted by everything going on here. Every time he glances over at his daughter and you can see the pride and enjoyment Gary's having despite the somber tone of the song, it's so good.
He should seriously consider redoing some of his songs with her on backing vocals Her voice meshes so well with the synthesizer lines and she adds a certain soft feminine touch that would contrasts nicely with the somewhat robotic hard Industrial Groove he has Yeah, totally should do that
James Brousseau Quite a good idea...perhaps you could email his web site with this suggestion...I used to be a publicist in Boston (I now reside in Hollywood), and you would be remarkably surprised to learn just how uncomplicated it would be to contact Numan's agent. A very good marketing idea, indeed!
Liquid Gold.....as an artist he's simply never failed to deliver! My Name Is Ruin is simply mind blowing plus Are Friends Electric has to be one of the best tracks ever!
Gary is relevant and fresh as the day he first walked on stage. More so! His daughter is amazing too. Band is tight together. This album is solid. Love playing bass to it.
Yeah there is a track they are playing on top of,but the dummer's definitely playing over the top of it,and his daughter's doing vocals live over the other vocals, and I hear guitar in this, but bass guitar not so much on Ruin.
Ive loved Gary Numan from day 1. Ive seen him performing 6 times and what a performer! Such energy. He was my poster idol on my bedroom walls. Im now 62 and his music is mesmorizing and still keeps evolving i will always love him ❤
Was 17, 18, when Gary did his first hit" Are Friends Electric" ? Was there! Love this with his Daughter singing the Backing vocals! Feeling so old? Lol. Brilliant or what?.x.
I was there when Numan came out of nowhere and Cars hit the number one spot in the UK. Gary was considered nothing more than a Bowie clone ripoff merchant back then and the music press laid into him mercilessly. He's been doing his thing for years and is a true proper artist.
Who's watching this in 2024, still brilliant !!
Me
Me! Love him😊
I hear ya!
@audio_guy I am and ping to hid gigs
Always listening (and watching). It's something in the blood. Enjoyment for all who agrees. Numans classics and new tracks are mostly all brilliant.
The pride in his face when he looks at his kid.
Jen farmer what...the...
FUUUUUUUCK?!!!!!
his daughter kids are baby goats
There is nothing more priceless than the look of love for a child on a parent's face. Peace.
What child? That girl? That’s great! She’s great!
Indeed!!
The coolest Dad an Daughter on the planet!!
Saw Gary N. a few weeks ago in NY. So endearing to see an encouraging dad. Such a legend! Musician and father...
I thought same🤍
Brilliant performance of both songs ❤ His daughter has got a beautiful voice ❤
Every Teenager is jealous of Persia, she's blessed to have one of the coolest 😎 geniuses of a parent in the planet
no.
Gary looks so proud of his daughter. That's lovely they can share the stage and work together.
As he should be. An angelic voice. A kiss for the angels
I just listened to this album earlier today, not knowing that Gary Numan still was doing music...Loved it, to put it simply. Some of the best Industrial Rock music I've heard in a long long time.
Glad to see after all these years there's still loads of Numanoids about 🙂
I'm here since 1978!
They don’t make songs like this anymore. Love it.
I have to admit I only knew of Gary thru his song cars. Now that I have actually listened to his song catalog, I realize my life has amounted to nothing more than an artistically bankrupt waste of time. This is beyond words it is so good.

And getting even better..! ;)
'My Name Is Ruin' only proves your point for me. See you at the 1000th show tomorrow night?
A genius, I had the 45 of Cars. so many bands need to thank him for his groundbreaking music. Took my son to see him tour this album.
Legend, ahead of his time!
This was amazing. Ruin has a Nine Inch Nails/Old School Gary Numan vibe to it. Killer.
dave bass Trent is a huge fan. Check out their performance together of Cars a few years back
dave bass it's great

Who els thinks that are friends electric could be re realised today and hot the top 10 if mot higher with the shit put there now
Every single version of Are Friends Electric is absolutely perfect!
Are friends is still one of the most original electronic songs ever.
Chris Parker Along with Down In The Park
i discovered gary numan around september 2017. It's april 2018 now, and i listened to Are friends electric at least once a day, everyday since then. I literally can't get tired of that song. It just speaks to my soul somehow

I always loved engineers.
I love that,, another Numan Human.. the world needs more music like Garys. still amazing,,
Lovely man and lovely daughter. And music that is as relevent as it was in 1982!
And the world is still not ready for Gary Numan !!! / 45 years / Thank you Gary
Bob and Gary on TOGWT It doesn't get much better
Love Gary Numan's voice! And how talented is Persia?! 😍
Absolutely beautiful. Gary and Persia are both just awesome in this performance of “My Name is Ruin”. Gary’s music is simply timeless!
How amazing to sing with your dad who is THE Gary Numan. Lots of kids wouldn't! Reminds me of Moon Zappa who sang with her dad on 'Valley Girls'!
Mr. N. is still so cool, even after all these years. Long may he continue!
The man is a genius. Love his work.
When I was 13 A.F.E. was one of the best songs I'd ever heard!
A fan from the beginning back in the eighties, still a fan today. Gary still creative. Love it.
Pure Genius!
As a dad of a 6 and a 13 year old I'm just so delighted by everything going on here. Every time he glances over at his daughter and you can see the pride and enjoyment Gary's having despite the somber tone of the song, it's so good.
Omg, the host. Saw a few videos from the early 70s with him. Pleasantly surprised to see him still in the game. Love that calm voice.
Just. For one second. Imagine Gary Numan's yer Da and you're 13 or so.. get to perform with him. Just WOW.. life rocks
Still got it. Love this. Big influence on my music. Thanks Gary. You are the original.
LEGEND!!!!
An unbelievably powerful song, so beautiful Gary!
omg so great
The man is an absolute genius... Do not to die before listening to My name is ruin live... 🙌🏻
omg they are brilliant together
The best thing to see. God bless them
Saw Gary and his great band in Denver last year. Fantastic gig! As others have said, he still has it and he is still making new and relevant music.
He should seriously consider redoing some of his songs with her on backing vocals
Her voice meshes so well with the synthesizer lines and she adds a certain soft feminine touch that would contrasts nicely with the somewhat robotic hard Industrial Groove he has
Yeah, totally should do that
James Brousseau Quite a good idea...perhaps you could email his web site with this suggestion...I used to be a publicist in Boston (I now reside in Hollywood), and you would be remarkably surprised to learn just how uncomplicated it would be to contact Numan's agent. Doyle Perkins
I've talked to a few other people who say that yes mr. Newman is quite accessible So I may just do that
James Brousseau Go for it!
I was also proud of this doughter
I think he should write a new song with Persia singing lead.
One of the most important artists in modern music history - hands-down. Been a fan since '80 when I found out what my ears were for.
Around 2:13, Gary looks over at Persia and you can see how proud he is of Persia!
OMG! Numan still has it-a real shining star! And his daughter, Persia-what a promising young singer...
Liquid Gold.....as an artist he's simply never failed to deliver! My Name Is Ruin is simply mind blowing plus Are Friends Electric has to be one of the best tracks ever!
Amazing! Not least because Gary wrote this before I guess that entire band was born
Saw him last night live, and was blown away by this track. Have been playing it all day since
Gary is relevant and fresh as the day he first walked on stage. More so! His daughter is amazing too. Band is tight together. This album is solid. Love playing bass to it.
I like the contrast between the song lyrics and what is a wholesome family moment performing together.
Can't believe how much I love this!
One word
AWESOME!!
one word SHIT
Pigeon Pate. Yeah.
Two words "backing track"
Yeah there is a track they are playing on top of,but the dummer's definitely playing over the top of it,and his daughter's doing vocals live over the other vocals, and I hear guitar in this, but bass guitar not so much on Ruin.
Saw him in Hull this Tuesday one of the best live acts I've ever seen amazing showman !!!!

Such a magnificent track, superbly performed.

EXCELLENT 💥🖤💥
Ruin is a great tune .. played this version too many times :-)
This needs to be in a movie.
I was there when Numan came out of nowhere and Cars hit the number one spot in the UK. Gary was considered nothing more than a Bowie clone ripoff merchant back then and the music press laid into him mercilessly. He's been doing his thing for years and is a true proper artist.
The Savage tour is well worth catching. His daughter Persia is great in this.
