Hey Jake! Fellow Elgato capture card user here! I’ve also noticed/dealt with the exact same issues with my elgato. Obviously it’s the things you just gotta deal with, but I like that it works for any HDMI system and that I can play lag-free on a tv while streaming. You mentioned that there was some noticeable input lag with the first card you showed off, but what about the second? How does it compare with the elgato for that (as far as you could detect)? Does it also work well with other systems? Since recording, does the Pro still work without having to plug it back in? I’m genuinely curious, because while I feel like elgato is a brand I can trust, there’s no denying their occasional flaws (and the steep price). Thanks!
As a Twitch streamer who streaming with Ps4 and Pc what's easier than streaming with Nintendo Switch, im so thankful for that viddo I've been looking long time a good Nintendo Switch Capture Card but didin't find good yet. Got mine from the kickstarter and its defective. been trying to get support or ask for a replacement but they seem to be having a hard time understanding or admitting I have a defect. replaced it with a Elgato HD60 S I got for $50 a third of the Shadowcast 2 Pro cost and same setup and wiring and it works fine.
Idk about the 2 but the shadowcast 1 was just a clone of a cheap chinese capture card you could find for like 20 bucks that they sold for over double that and I think they had a kickstarter for that one too. Maybe they've turned over a new leaf for this new release but they just give me bad vibes.
The og shadow cast uses USB 2.0, which led to some terrible input delay and compression artifacts. Many were clamoring for an improved version that runs on USB 3.0 or higher which is what the shadow cast 2 is built on now, so hopefully it'll address the issues of the previous one. He'll based on screenshots the compression artifacts are fixed so I'm optimistic.
@@NinjaRed5000 I'm like semi optimistic but really I don't think I'll ever be the target demographic for this kinda device just because after playing smash for years I'm actually pretty susceptible to input delay. So if that part is lost on me and the capture card ends up being another overpriced knockoff that they get crowdfunded again even tho they probably don't need to, then I'm not gonna ever let my hopes get up again.
@@NCozy that's absolutely fair. Me personally I would like to play on my Switch and actually use a proper chat system like Discord. The terrible input delay from the first shadow cast put me off.
I have an Avermedia capture card I got for the Wii U and It serves me well but It has been deciding to Just not work sometimes so maybe time to upgrade
Is it affordable though? I’ve been wanting to get a capture card to record switch stuff for ages, and I know you need a good amount of money to get the good quality capture cards, but in just looking for recording gameplay, no fancy 4k 120fps stuff.
I love my first gen Genki dock. I've been using it for years with zero issues.

How well does the ShadowCast 2 compare to the Original ShadowCast?
