@@msk-qp6fn Morticia was clearly enamored with her husband & he with her. They loved their children & their family. They’re just different and clearly caricatures of what “normal society” thought were scary. But they also were a very loving family, showing that they valued many of the same things as “normal society”. Just with a fascination with & appreciation of death & violence. Good thing they were a fictional family or Pugsley would never have survived being electrocuted.

I loved this version of Addams Family. They aren't stupid or cruel or even mean. They just live life they want they want and they don't condemn others for living how they want. They get surprised at things they find "odd", but ultimately, they're like "that's ok, whatever makes you happy." Morticia could be a mean and nasty woman, but she's not. In fact, she actively supports other women when they feel helpless. And Gomez/Morticia are relationship goals - that man loves her and would literally walk through hell for her.

    Fun little fact:
The dress was extremely restrictive for movement. Anjelica had to practice and step very carefully. The scene where she is in bed from the first film is a marvelous photography illusion. She is actually in the bed of a truck set up to look like the bed. It was the only way they get the scene to look right. Her makeup was also a chore to remove and apply. Changes in expression were hard to make with requiring touch up. Her deadpan features were out of necessity and yet work so well. This Morticia is so hard to separate from the actress. She was destined for this role. Iconic.

As a kid I thought Gomez worshipping her was funny. As an adult I realize that he knew he married a goddess and she should be treated as such. The way they support each other and how she can get his affection with barely a word is just beautiful. The Addams Family is one of my family’s favorite movies and has been pretty much my whole life for good reason.

Agreed ! I recently (finally !) watched the Addams Family movies from the 90's and, while Wednesday was a solid Mood and the whole cast was amazing, it was Morticia that really stood out for me. I just love how she's always so ridiculously graceful and perfectly composed, like getting her to raise an eyebrow would be the greatest honor. Her presence commands respect, but she's also surprisingly loving.

Can we take a moment and appreciate Morticia's unique way of protecting her family. At 0:50 she helps Fester unpack. But here is the thing. She knew something was off. If the man wasn't the real Uncle Fester then she with that line about the cyanide would keep him on edge. If he was the real Uncle Fester then she has been nothing but a good welcoming host. She never meant to help him unpack because she just took out 3 things before saying good night. Love a woman that can psychologically find ways to protect her own.
