I Love Skull Eaters!

- A one-off video where I gush about an ingenious enemy idea from Final Fantasy V, which is about extremely exaggerated versions of real-life animals. Also included are biology facts about England. (That are related to the main feature, I promise)
For the longest time, I've been wondering if I should make a Weakest/Strongest Characters video about all the featured enemies of this video, but I couldn't decide which series would be a better fit to cover all the enemies, But since I need to cover them all to explain the genius idea behind them, I thought it would be best to make a one-off video about it instead. - Игры
I never knew the squirrel enemies in FFV were based on anything, this is a very informative video.
SuperChrisSixtyFour but then again since red squirrels were common in Europe once upon a time, Conkers Bad Fur Day has only one red squirrel and the grey military squirrels
I thought it was just an annoying palette swap meant to one shot a party for no real reason other than to be a jerk even when you were level appropriate.
Y'know, it's believed Conker's Bad Fur Day also contains a subtle reference to the red and grey squirrel problem in England, in that you play as a red squirrel, but every other squirrel you encounter is a grey squirrel.
N U T E A T E R
I can see why that was sadly changed.
Maybe he's related to Mr. Bucket.
nut is american slang
Edit: But they could have changed it to, like, "crusher"
There seems to be a RPG that Nutcracker type enemy turns male into female.
WHAT A THHRILL
@@dusaprukiyathan1613 that’s even worse
You can also deal with Skull Eaters on a late-game revisit by hitting them with the Excalipoor, since it's guaranteed to hit.
Oh shit lol never even thought about that
6 years late
He did indeed mention that
Imagine walking into a cave absolutely packed with squirrels, and you're just kicking them around. Tiny red squirrels being punted everywhere.
Then you stub your toe on one, and it's skull eater. Then it bites you in half.
You sir have clearly never been to rottnest island...
9:48 It's funny because "nattering" is the sound a squirrel makes.
My guess is they're immune to mini because mini shrinks you to the size of a squirrel, and a squirrel is already the size of a squirrel.
Funnily enough there's another version of that squirrel hidden in the ROM that's much, much stronger than any other incarnation.
Yes, but it was scraped for being too OP.
*****
It has 250 str, def, eva, mag, magdf and is immune to everything in the game. He was scrapped from the final game but still exists in the rom.
+SonyPWNsNintendont That squirrel's name is big boss, correct?
yes
TCRF helps.
I knew immediately when I noticed you were using FFVA that you were gonna discuss the Soul Eaters, haha. XD A couple observations I made...
1. Skull Eaters only call their allies if they are targeted by a spell.
2. Every now and then a Soul Eater would show up at the end of an encounter with Skull Eaters or Nut Eaters, I seem to recall. If you're in the postgame dungeon and you have an encounter with a single Nut Eater, beware; when it's slain you may face off against MULTIPLE Soul Eaters!
Thanks for the trivia! I'm pretty sure I'm the first person to see this, since this video is seven years old and the incoming views are basically non-existent.
The reason they're immune to mini is because they're squirrels and already so small to begin with!
What about the Skull Eaters? They re squirrels too, but not immune to Mini.
Wait the blue ones are called SOUL EATERS: huh I guess They have a weapon form too huh...
@@leoleo4469 No, it's a Soul Eater reference.
You could name this series something like "Obscure reality references"
Looking forward to seeing something else like this.
Don't worry about reds, they thrive where I live. In fact, the only species of squirrel we have here is reds.
I used to farm AP on Eaters... and run in fear when Skull ones appeared. Good times.
P.S. Can somebody tell me the name of the ending SID? It sounds familliar..
It's from Double Dragon II on the Amiga.
Well i don't know why this got recommended to me. But it just so happen last week me and my father we're talking about those black squirrel and how he stopped seeing grey since they came in the neighbour. Well we actually did see 1 grey, but he did seem to keep his distance from black one. Interesting.
World Eater (completely black with glowing red eyes, the "nut" looks like a globe)
7000 HP
700 MP
110 everything else
Immunity to Mini, Toad, Petrify, Silence, Confuse, and Old.
can i make the texture of the squirrel?
and show it
Eater of Worlds has awoken!
I'm sorry.
weak to shouts
That would make an excellent early boss
Today we have Skwovet and Greedent... Red and grey squirels pokémon
so, basically skull eaters are shedninjas?
shedinjas
Uhm... no.
It's Shedinja.
I mean, kinda. You can hit them with almost anything, assuming it has a high enough power to pierce their defence. But the only thing they do have in common is the 1 hp gimmick.
aww, poor red squirrels. And now with final fantasy: aww, poor red squirrels
Note: Excalipoor is the likely the best weapon against Skull Eaters, with its 1 attack and sure fire hitting
Boy I've got some good news for you about a red and grey squirrel Pokémon
Well there's some nice Squirrel trivia I never knew about before.
Cool.
There's a reliable early-game kill for Skull Eaters: the Mediator job.
He'll summon his buddies if you ever hit it with magic/elemental attacks
I'm not a Final Fantasy fan, but I love love this enemy concept!
I have lived in England all my life and have seen a Red Squirrel. However, it was in an area where they deliberately kill Greys.
i used to farm that cave for AP, and i recently started a new playthrough of FF5 and yup, still shit myself when the Skull Eater calls his mates for back up... that is fucking scary.
Sometimes there's some media that conveys the color black as blue. I don't know why. But in this case, it's understandable since on the GBA screen it's just a black blob if ever should it be black.
Not gonna lie, ever since I started watching your videos I've begun to enjoy them more and more. Keep up the great work!
But see, that's why I love FFV like crazy. There were certain enemies which you very much had no chance of beating without prior knowledge or grinding. Whether it be Skull Eater, Harpy (Jackanapes), Shield Dragons, Ex-Death Soul and Gilgame, the inclusion of enemies that wreck your shit when you first encounter them (but are completely optional) is something I'd love to see in future Final Fantasy games.
They're immune to Mini because their babies are less and less common? Going with the bio theme that makes sensd
I've never played this FF part. The Battle music is really awesome. The Bass-line shines tremendously and that it changes during the battle and leaves out the percussion is really cool.
The video was also very informative ;) I like your videos, keep on trucking!
Good move moving this to the enemy analysis playlist . It makes perfect sense to be there
Imagine the Soul Eaters having the highest hp possible (Not sure of the max),having the Skull Eater's stats(All except hp) & having it start the battle with 5 of them. Holy GOSH that would make the Brachiosour seem easy, but the Bracioradious will out-shine it with it's special attacks
Here in Italy, where I live, there is a ton of Red Squirrels left inside big parks, and fortunately they are not domesticated by men!
There is still hope! Also, I love their fluffy puff on their ears, so cute!
I've only seen red squirrels here in Sweden. They are so cute.
blowfish is an early spell u can get that knocks em out in one go as well
I remember on my first playthrough of FFV those little guys kicked my ass so hard I quit playing for days.
Very interesting video on these types of enemies.
always enjoyed defeating the gray squirrls. though I used a semi cheezy tactic. get everyone else to "cover" hp from a knight and make sure your fastest hero is a knight and have it protect. since incisor is physical dmg it will mitigate all of it including the poison application. then you keep plowing through them and get that ap early.
I assume Nutkins are immune to mini because they're already small
Ff5 forever! :3
I love it when it's so in-depth!
Your videos are the only ones I see complete.
Not only was this episode Entertaining, it was Educational. I like that.
I live in the highlighted red part of Wales, and I haven't ever seen a red squirrel there. Coming to think about it, I've only seen squirrels in England.
I’m from the Dales and apparently there’s red squirrels here?
This video just earned you a subscriber. Well done.
Thanks for making this video. I’m just now playing this game and love it! I didn’t know that of the squirrel population in England 🏴 and USA. That’s Ingenious that this was put together. I hated going in that cave. Thank you!!!!!!
There is no squirrels here in South America :(
You just made me look up squirrels.
You should start a series about this like VG references to stuff in real life like animals locations enemys seems like informative and interesting series :)
He's staring at your soul!!!
Wow, I can't believe this is actually a thing. I guess one of the developers was reading a random article in world current affairs one day, as you do. Actually, I've noticed before that Japanese developers are more aware of the outside world than say their American counterparts. It's quite endearing of them actually.
you just get better every time, Git. squirrels! they just don't get much respect over here, but I love those fluffy-tailed critters. (the picture is a squirrelified version of myself!)
Wow... Informative and entertaining, thanks for this. :)
the funny thing is, I used to farm skull eaters for early game ABP. great way to get the ninja and ranger jobs to/near max before the second world.
Ah this monster based of real squirel
here in germany where i live youre able to see red squirrels in spring, summer and fall but not very often
whoisthisgit I'm a little disappointed you didn't mention the excalipoor as a way to defeat them. 100% accuracy and always does one damage :p
because by the time you have the excalipoor AND can fight them again you're already on the 3rd world and you are strong enough to defeat them normaly.
Matheusinho Nintendista point taken. I've never actually played the game, just read about it.
***** I didn't know people wanted to comment on a comment over _half a year old._
FROM THE UNITED K, LOOKING FOR HEAVEN, GOING TO CALIFORNIA.
@@Renegative a reply to a 2 year old reply which itself is a 4 year old comment
okay dude. you've won my subscription
Well I live in Scotland, so I still get to see red squirrels.
No wonder your name is Scott (No racism intended)
None taken

Maybe Gaijin Goomba has an answer for the "mini" question... BTW great vid as always! :)
You should make a series of this and name it something like: Interesting enemy ideas
Don't insult Pachirisu, someone managed to win the Pokemon World Championships with one...
Because the guy was a really good player who knew how to use it. Not because the Pokémon itself is of any good. And besides, he didn't chose it because he actually likes Pachirisu, but rather only to throw off those who'd expect him to carry around Amoongus.
Seeker of All Formulas Exactly.
Bulbasaurdude Goddarn it, I guess your comment was sarcastic then. I'm sincerely sorry about that. Didn't quite catch on.
Was it Se Jun Park?
NOTE:
It is possible that whoisthisgit may have seen a red squirrel which has grey/gray fur and mistaken it for a red squirrel.
Mistaking a red squirrel for a red squirrel.
*Sarcasm*
You are a genius, sir.
FFV was my first FF and my first RPG, and man did i have a surprise when i first ran into a skull eater in the game! lol
I'm kinda surprised you still haven't made a Fire Emblem Awakening video about Robin and his/her kids. Y'know, "The Strongest Characters" one.
Stephen Aziz he, REALLY isn’t an Awakening fan, but there’s many Candidates for Strongest and Weakest characters in that game.
The Titan goo of breath of fire 3 have the same logic,OP version of weak enemy.
2:24 Hey, git, look, your character is trying to teach Nutkin a new move using a water type TM!
I pray that you and I and others will see a red squirrel soon
Hey git, could you talk about FF7 in any kind of video be it creepy time limits to most powerful/weakest character? Many thanks.
Storyboard that's ff6
I knew that fact, i used the Skull Eaters to farm ABP by using the scrolls or shurikens (do they work on them? i don´z know).
BTW:
- Nut Eater are immun to Mini because they are already the weakes enemy ;D
- You can steal the item "Tent" from Skull eaters. I thinks its a reference to the fact, that they aren´t native creatures in that cave & in UK.
- There is also a hidden enemy in the data named "Big Boss". It has the sprite of the Nut Eater and that stats:
Level 13
HP 3
Strenght 250
Magic 250
Defense 250
M. Defense 250
Evasion 250
EXP 0
Gil 0
The "King" of the red squrrels who has the power to kill the grey ones! I think that used to be a boss in the Jachol Cave, but the fact that the scrolls & shuriken can kill it in no time was the end of that idea.
killroy814
I have played the game a few years ago, i know that i have used the scrolls to kill the skull eater easy but i don´t remeber if the shurikens work, too. =/ I need to find my game and my GameBoy SP again x"D
I guess the Skull Eater loves to use Elegant Egotist.
it' s amazing!! i never think that they can dead. thank vary much for this information. Sorry my english, i'm brazilian and discovery this video by chance
There actually are more squirrel kinds: white and albino squirrels. Perhaps Pokemon could make a rabid albino squirrel or a rabid white squirrel for the Mega Evolution? Or should the red squirrel evolve into the white/albino squirrel, which evolves into the grey squirrel, which Mega Evolves into the black squirrel? Let me know what you think.
What about:
Red (Normal-Type), evolves to:
Gray (Dark-Type), if defenses are higher than attack;
Albino/White (Ice-type), if attacks are higher that defenses;
Gray (Ghost-type), HP at least twice than attack+sp. attack+defense+sp. defense/4.
I meant Black instead of grey at the end.
pachirisu is based off a white squirrel
Because Pikachu is a SQUIRREL !!? It's a MOUSE !
I have seen "red squirrels" (they look brown though not actually red) but I didn't think about that they ARE realy rare as hell.
Actually thought it was like a fox or something when I did.
Skull eaters remind me of metal slimes from dragon quest 9. Tons of defense, low health, and high evasion. But the metal slimes run like hell from YOU because of their experience count. (4980 or so, which is a ton for the fourth dungeon which is where you find them.)
I've seen a red squirrel 3 times in the last 2 months or so. My god...
Love ur channel
Wait, you live in england! Me too!
Those Nut Eaters have freaking regen!? I never knew!
You know, here in Indianapolis, I hardly see any gray squirrels, but I do see a lot of red ones.
man, now i feel sorry for the poor uk red squirrels
As a Squirrel Pokémon, there will be much trouble Nintendo using this concept again since we already have Pachirisu and Emolga. While Game Freak has some interesting ideas (i.e. Panda that evolves through bad influence, seagull that evolves into a pelican and a reptile with a seed that blossoms through its evolutions) I guess they wouldn't be that creative. But that really caught me off guard.
That's something that makes final fantasy v special . It doesn't joke around with neither the enemies nor the bosses . The enemies tend to be more threatening at times . The squirrels aside : the games occasionally pits u in a fight against a lv 30 monster when you're sailing in Bartz world ( in the sea the regular enemy is lv20 or something ) . There're also enemies that can kill you instantly if you're at a certain level , and there's a boss that can actually heal himself at like quarter the story of the game and I'm not even talking about a secret boss , all this stuff is in the story quest and unless you put up with it , you can't progress at all . That's why I think it's one of the hardest final fantasy games I have ever played
I think I have seen a red squirrel once in my life
It sounds trivial but after learning Git was a girl, I learnt she's British. Thanks for all the time you took to make all these vids.
Wait really? I'm pretty sure he's a guy, considering that one video he showed his face and voice, and it was that of a males...
Landen Banks when?
in his top 5 fire emblem blazing sword characters list if memory serves
Landen Banks lol im already know
When I saw one, i tried to fight it off, when he got 5 more, I said nope, and run for my life.
Whoa... that's nuts!
Actually, I'm Canadian. Guess what colour of squirrel I see all the time everywhere and have never seen any other kind? The other day, I saw FOUR of the things hanging around someone's yard with a seagull, but surprisingly they didn't fight or anything.
Ah, I always wanted a squirrel as a pet! I also want to beat FF 5 someday as well! 2017, maybe I'll fulfill these promises, haha!
im devloping my own pokemon idea, ill take the squirrel idea
0:55
Well, fly over here in Indiana. We have tons of red squirrels!
The university campus in my hometown of Denton, Texas has white squirrels.
Sometimes they do MISS some allies in my party. Maybe is because i did almost everything to level them up as quickly as i could without wasting too much time.
that squirrels dynamite.
Can we see P. Mario get his ass kicked by every squirrel in Fe?
That is actually really funny. XD
Hey, git, do you have other Final Fantasies to write about? Maybe Final Fantasy I, or IV even? And what's your favorite Final Fantasy game?
The most powerful characters in gaming ever # 9 was about Final Fantasy IV, but that's the earliest Final Fantasy I've played. My favourite in the series is probably FF6.
whoisthisgit hey gits its me royal
Goddamit. That is smart. And undeniably has that English humor to it.And as much English as those Red Squirrels.
About the Pokemon idea. It would be Ground-Normal, then Poison-Normal, and finally Fighting-Normal.
